Christ-Centered Exposition

Exalting Jesus in Luke

Rate this book
Exalting Jesus in Luke is part of the Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary series. Edited by David Platt, Daniel L. Akin, and Tony Merida, this new commentary series, projected to be 48 volumes, takes a Christ-centered approach to expositing each book of the Bible. Rather than a verse-by-verse approach, the authors have crafted chapters that explain and apply key passages in their assigned Bible books. Readers will learn to see Christ in all aspects of Scripture, and they will be encouraged by the devotional nature of each exposition presented as sermons and divided into chapters that conclude with a “Reflect & Discuss” section, making this series ideal for small group study, personal devotion, and even sermon preparation. It’s not academic but rather presents an easy reading, practical and friendly commentary. The author of Exalting Jesus in Luke is Thabiti M. Anyabwile

This book was challenging and taught me so much about Jesus! I appreciated the straight-forward approach Thabiti had in engaging his readers with the truths of Scripture while also providing practical, real life applications. I would recommend this book to any lay person but would encourage the reader to pair this with other biblical resources for more of an in-depth study.

While I enjoyed the read and heart challenge, I am giving this book four stars because I found several grammatical errors (not a big deal, just more of a preference), it felt too repetitive, and social justice issues were brought up more than I cared for.

Still a recommendation for anyone wanting to "get their feet wet" with studying Luke! :-)

Exalting Jesus in Luke is a wonderful study, for an audience ranging from skeptic to seasoned saint. The author speaks directly to people in different places in their walk. The beauty of God's Word is that no matter how many times you read it, you can still learn from it.

This study doesn't have specific chapter numbers, but is broken up by either a single chapter or part of a chapter in Luke. Each section starts out with a Main Idea bullet about a sentence or two long followed by an outline of the section. The author then uses the outline as a guide for the commentary. Each section closes with a conclusion and questions for reflection.

While much of the commentary will come as review to more seasoned believers, it still encourages deeper growth. For skeptics or new believers, it expresses and urgency to get to know the Lord intimately. There is something for everyone and would be a great study for people in different places in their walk to go through together.

This is the first book I've gone through in this series but I will definitely be looking into more of them. It caused me to slow down and take more time in reflection over what I was reading in the Word. I highly recommend this study.

Love reading this book of Luke! It is well explained with many examples given. As I read these commentaries, I can hear the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart and opening my spiritual eyes and understanding of the word of God.

Expositional not exegetical.
Simple outlines. Application.
Could be read devotionally...
Pretty much sermons in book form.

This commentary is a great guide to pulling out insights from the Gospel of Luke. It hits a great balance of theological and practical which is so needed in commentaries.

Troubling

I love this series, but the author of this volume put in his 'woke' mentality and false teaching. Skip this volume if you care about truth.
