From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author comes a heartfelt second-chance romance featuring a swoon-worthy man, a single-mom, and an adorably cute little girl. I loved this one by Laramie Briscoe. Action packed and a strong damsel in distress. This was a page turner and had such a great sigh-worthy ending. Definitely recommend! - USA Today bestselling author Susan Stoker A forced sentence leads to a reckless passion… Hadley When my husband walked out on me over a year ago, it devastated me. When the divorce papers came, it killed me. When we had to sell our house, it broke me. But then he moved in with his new flavor of the month and told our daughter his new woman wasn’t into children. That pissed me off. Now Riley feels abandoned, and I can’t make it better; no matter how hard I try. I’m desperate to help her adjust to the loss of a male figure in her life. The companion program that matches adults up with children who have loneliness and abandonment issues is my last hope. The counselors tell me he’s doing community service hours, and I ask to sit in on his meetings with Riley. The minute I see him astride the matte black Harley, I know neither my nor Riley’s life will ever be the same again. Trick Community Service. Two words I should be thankful for, but I’m not. I resent the hours it’s away from building my business. The two previous kids I'd been paired up with didn’t work out because their mothers were more interested in getting in my bed. This next match with a little girl is my last hope. Unless this kid works out, I’m destined to serve time. When they push her into the room wearing pink converse with a black dress, her crazy curls barely held back by the barrette in her hair, and studious glasses on her face, I can tell she’s scared - of new people, of change, of being pushed aside. Something inside of me breaks, and I want this girl to feel wanted again. What I’m unprepared for is meeting her mom. The second our hands touch, there are fireworks, bright lights, and a picture of the future I could one day have. The future I’ve never allowed myself to wish for. Community service becomes more than a chore, more than time I resent for being taken away from me. In the months that follow, I realize they’re just like they’ve been abandoned, left behind by the world, forgotten by those who should love them. Thanks to the one last hope in both our lives - we found the light in the darkness we’d been searching for.

If you are in the mood for a super sweet read that is low on angst...then this book is for you. If you are looking for a read with a swoon-worthy tatted up bad boy...then this is the book for you. If you are looking for a read with an adorable little girl that will steal your heart...then this is the book for you.

I enjoyed this one. Like I said above it was really an easy peasy book. Really no angst or drama to speak of. And the TINY bit near the end was wrapped up quickly. Both characters were likable and there really isn't any pushing away. In fact, I'd say they got together rather quickly. Riley was adorable and not annoying like children can sometimes be in these types of books.

Personally, for me, I wish this had had some sort of angst or drama. It all felt a little too smooth sailing for my personal tastes which caused it to drag a little in places. That said, I still found it an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. So two thumbs up from yours truly.

This book should come with a warning! Gorgeous, tatted man will cause your ovaries to explode.Seriously, Trick was one of the hottest Heroes I've read in a long time and I already want to re-read this book just to get more of him.

Trick made mistakes in the past and he takes full responsibility for them. Which is why he now needs to do community service with the companion program, but he wasn't expecting his companion to be the coolest little girl he's ever met. Or for her mom to be undeniably sexy with an electric chemistry between them. He needs to steer clear of her though and not let him libido ruin his chances of staying out of jail. Which is a lot harder than it sounds.

This book was really good and it was more emotional than I thought it would be. I loved how the emotions of every character, Trick, Hadley, and Riley, were featured throughout the book and it made it very easy to connect with all of them. My heart went out to all of them for the pain life decided to throw at them but I also really liked that we got to see them handle that pain and make the best out of it that they could. It showed the strength they all had and made me admire them.

Now back to the hotness...hold wow, batman! Trick was smoking hot and I couldn't get enough of him and Hadley. The sweetness those scenes with him and Riley had me swooning all over the place. But the smexy scenes with him and Hadley had me fanning myself. They were on fire together and their connection was one that everyone needs to see.

Bottom line, this is a must read and a book that I highly recommend. I can't wait for it to release so everyone can meet this amazing man and his two leading ladies.

What a sweet enjoyable read and the first book I have read by this author to boot! The hero is an ex-con named Patrick Tennyson who goes by Trick. He’s participating in the Companion Program in which he is matched up with the adorable six year old Reilly. Reilly’s mother Hadley thinks that this program will gift Reilly with a companion that is reliable and trustworthy all the things that her own birth father fails to be.

description

When Hadley and Reilly meet mechanic Trick the love aspect is sexy and well-paced. Tap on some adorable interactions with little Reilly and the swoon level of Trick only goes even higher.

"You, wound me, little girl.” “You’ll be fine,” she giggles as I tickle her legs. “I’ll sure do hope so, I’d hate to go to the hospital and explain that a little girl broke my heart.”

description

Even though Trick and Hadley have reservations about starting a relationship, I loved how they both were open and honest about their fears and the story felt like an hea lover’s dream. I think my only complaint would be the cover for this book, it just didn’t have Trick’s feel for me. This is definitely a story that leaves a smile on a reader’s face!

"You to make me forget I wasn’t good enough for another man. Make me feel like a woman, Trick, make me enough for you.”

TRICK: Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’ twenty-nine year old Hadley & Patrick (aka Trick).

Hadley is a single mother working a full time job whilst raising her six year old daughter Riley who has lost all trust in all male figures due to the fact that since the separation of her parents her father hasn’t wanted to have anything to do with her which has resulted in her having separation anxiety making her withdrawn from adults especially men.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Hadley’s last resort is to place Riley into the companion program that matches adults up with children who have loneliness and abandonment issues which is where Trick comes into the equation.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic I want him to break through her shell, like I haven’t been able to. I’ll help him as long as he takes interest because I truly believe he’s my last hope. If he can’t bring her back to me, I’m at a loss; I have no more ideas on what to do.

Trick Tennyson is a gorgeous reformed bad boy just trying to get his life back on track and to pay his dues to society by doing either community service hours or jail time. Slowly he's made steps in his life both personally and professionally to make himself a better person, in order to do that, he’s decided to take part in ‘The Companion Program’ hoping that he can be matched up with a child he can help, which is where Riley figures into the equation.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Hadley’s one hope out of Trick working with her daughter is that he can get through to her and make her see that not all men leave.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic I hope Trick realizes what he's getting himself into with a single mum and an opinionated little girl.

One thing Trick didn't factor on was the fast impact these two had on his heart, as soon as he saw the little girl walk into the room a little piece of his heart was claimed by her, the first innocent touch between Hadley and himself sent a jolt through his whole system, from that moment on he was a goner.

A slow burn romance that will melt your heart and feed your soul, a beautifully written unique heart felt story about finding love in the most unexpected person, trust, healing, and second chances.

I. LOVED. IT.
It was not a usual sweet romance, it was more – deep, raw, ugly, beautiful, honest, real and much more.
I loved that the MCs were not delusional - they made no excuses, they knew their faults and acknowledged their mistakes.
I value honesty - even if the truth isn't pretty.

The hero was not really a bad bad guy. He had a complicated past, he was in jail for assaulting the person who harassed his friend. It was not an excuse for his behaviour and he was completely aware of it. The second “crime” he committed was to save a dog who was tortured by his owner. It was a right thing to do if you ask me!
…he’s taken steps to correct his mistakes. He admits to his faults and doesn’t make excuses. That’s the mark of not only a good human being, but a great man.

The heroine was a single mother of an adorable girl. She divorced her husband and refused to take a child support from him.
I must admit I respect the author to bring up such a side character as h’s ex-husband, or rather their conflict. He was almost 20 years older and told the h from the beginning that he didn’t want to have children. After she got pregnant by mistake (sorry, but here I roll my eyes), their marriage failed and he cheated on her with his younger secretary. Since he told her honestly from the beginning that he didn’t want a child it was kind of difficult to judge him for not loving his daughter. There is a thin line between a human nature’s need to love and protect his child and an adult decision not to have any. I don’t justify his actions; I could understand the hope of the h that he would change his mind, and it was life-ugly that he didn’t; but I respected and admired that the heroine didn’t try to put all responsibility on his shoulders, she also saw her mistakes and approached the situation correctly. RESPECT!!!

The MCs met through the Companion Program which pairs children lacking male figures in their lives with male companion. It was beautiful to read how the hero fell in love not only with the woman but also with her daughter. Their love story was sweet and touching, heart-melting and natural.
They were meant to be together.

The drama toward the end was caused by her ex-husband who fought for joint custody of their daughter with him being her primary caregiver. Despite his efforts to use H’s past as a main bargain, the MCs held together, they didn’t split but stayed strong together and fought for the girl.
“I don’t know if I’m strong enough for this,” she whispers.
I cup my hand around her neck, forcing her eyes to meet mine. “You are because you have to be. I’ve never known you to run away or back down from anything. You became a single mother when it wasn’t the easiest thing for you to do. You signed your daughter up for the Companion Program and admitted you couldn’t give her everything she needed. You gave an ex-con covered in tattoos a shot when the rest of the world would have told me to go on my merry way. Don’t underestimate how strong you are, Hadley. You’re the strongest woman I know”

F*ck my life! It was brilliant! I might even cried a bit…

Perfect epilogues (5 months later and 3 years later).
The most beautiful proposal I’ve read. And well-earned HEA!

Thank you, Laramie Briscoe!

P.S. SAFE!!! No OW/OM!

After re-reading this: I'm upping one star, the lack of proper editing didn't bother me this time and I fell in love with Trick even more. This is available under Kindle Unlimited, but as I'm giving this a 5 star I decided to purchase a copy. So if anyone wants to borrow it, do let me know! Im more than happy to promote books I love!

****old review****
If you are looking for a fast paced Insta lust novella, then this might disappoint you a little. Because the book can come off as slow at couple of chapters. It really wasn't like "oh hello attractive woman, meet my *you know what*"!
This is 271 pages book. Both characters even though they were instantly attracted to each other decided to show some respect, restrain and self control (oh yeah, finally! Adults acting like adults not hormonal teenager!). They take a little time to get to know each other and they actually talk about their past in complete before getting physically involved. They have given each other out and when they got involved they thought it out, it wasn't just guided by lust.
Also Trick and Hadley have been amazing to the kid Riley. They have both put Riley's welfare before everything. Hadley being the mother I guess was expected to do that, whereas Trick never had to do anything, yet he chose to ask for a chance with this mini family.
The characters were flawed, thank god for that, all I have been reading recently were "pure angelic blonde virgins". These two are far from "pure", they have made their share of mistakes and learned from it. They are really loveable!
Points deducted for editing though! I wish they put a little more effort in editing.
I wasn't expecting Russian literature when I bought this book! I know I bought a smutty erotica, but as I have said quite a number of times over the last month, surprisingly, this book has more depth than many literary fictions and contemporary romance books I've read!
Though I really don't understand why this was listed under erotica rather than plain romance because I have read literary fictions and contemporary romances with more detailed smutty sex scenes than this book.
P.s. Some might miss the angst in this book, as there is none, but I could do with a safe ride today so I'm happy with my buy!

https://youtu.be/7JONA_6ZCrE I think this fits this book

Hadley is a single mom to her six year old little girl named Riley. Due to a bad divorce and abandonment by her ex, she has entered her daughter in a companion program so that she can have a positive male influence in her life and to give her back the self confidence and help her from being withdrawn. Riley is being pared with a guy named Patrick or Trick who entered the program due to him being on probation and needs a certain amount of hours to satisfy his requirements to keep him out of jail and for him to keep up all the progress he has been working toward. Hadley is skeptical at first but is assured by the woman assigning him and she takes the chance. Trick starts off on a bad foot with Riley, or Sprite as he later calls her, by being late but when he sees her he knows he wants her to give him a chance so after a explanation Riley accepts and is ready to let him prove he can do better. The next meeting goes way better and as time goes on Riley, Trick, and Hadley find that this is the best thing to come into their lives.

I absolutely love this book. It was sweet and sexy. I felt so much for all of them because they all had their own things they were trying to overcome. I loved that Riley wasn't pushed aside like some books that even when they have children in them they seem to pushed to the background that they it seems like they you forget they have kids and not to mention you wonder do the characters spend time with them. I am looking at you Falling for the Babysitter by Penny Wylder . If you have kids in books then I have a hard time when it seems they are never around. Hadley and Trick both had major insecurities but I loved that it never made them break up or push the other away. They were brave enough to try even when scared of the results. Huge thumbs up on this one and I am giving it 5 stars just because I loved the characters so much.

I will say that it could be repetitive and that could annoy some but if you love the characters you may be able to overlook.

DNF so no rating. It started off really well, I loved the idea of a real bad boy making good for his girls. Sadly Trick morphed from a total badass "take no prisoners" alpha male to the opposite and the story wasn't going anywhere.

**3.5 Pink Stars**

I was really looking forward to this book. It was supposed to have all the things I love: Instant connection, cute kids, low angst, no ow/om drama. And it did have all those things but for some reason I just didn't really connect with the characters. I don't know why...they were just flat and one dimensional to me. It picked up somewhat in the last half and actually, to me the 5 months out and then the epilogue gave me what I really wanted throughout the book. But I loved Riley. She was the sweetest thing and I loved that she wore pink Converse everywhere. She truly accepted Trick right away and he became the dad she never had.

Another problem I had, was Trick and Hadley both continued through most of the book "knowing it's going to end just not when". That is a big pet peeve of mine. I like for the characters to look towards a future together...to want to be together no matter what and it really got on my nerves after a bit of the constant reminder that when Trick's hours were clocked, there would be nothing holding him there.

I also hate when little tidbits are thrown in for dramatic affect of "it's going so good, it can't last" or "little did we know, we made ourselves a target" and you're sitting here waiting for the other shoe to drop. But when it does, it really wasn't that big of a deal. That's just another little pet peeve of mine.

I know it sounds like I didn't like the book. I truly did and like I said, it had everything I look for in a romance but I just didn't "feel it". Take it with a grain of salt...

I liked it.
Two days ago, Leo mentions about the book. I read the blurb and immediately started it. Its Leo, so no needs to worry about the safety issue.

The things I liked about this book.

* I believe, Strength is something you have to grow by yourself. The author gives us a glimpse about how a docile heroine grows into a strong women/ single mother. That's the thing I liked most about this book.

** I adore the relationship with Trick and Reilly. Honestly, I liked more Trick and Reilly than I liked Trick and Hadley.

*** Trick and Hadley trusted each other when they were at their lowest. I always feel that trust is the first step of a relationship and without it, a relationship felt like hollow.

The last thing, I know Trick is not a bad guy, he had a complicated past. Simply I would say he is a guy with issues. Trusting an ex-felon with your little girl is not a small thing and I know not every mother has the gut to do it, but Hadley did. And I admire her for that. She didn’t judge just go on with it.

It’s my first book by the author and it is a good experience. So, I will be exploring her other books also.

Safety Issue:
It was Safe.

I just feel this line of Trick-
“It’s nice to have someone around, even if you don’t see them, just knowing they’re there and you aren’t alone.”

Ooh I adored (Pa)Trick! He had made some bad decisions in his past but had paid his debt to society and was making moves to get his life on track. Though on parole, he started his own mechanic shop and was living his new life on the straight and narrow. I had mad respect for this man.

I also admired the heck out of Hadley. Her marriage dissolved into a pile of rubble. Her husband had abandoned her and her daughter and she had to learn to embrace her new life as a single mother. She realized that her daughter needed a positive male influence in her life and that's where Trick really fit the bill.

The evolution of their relationship was incredibly sweet and I loved the way that Trick feel in love with Hadley and Riley and they with him. This story is light, sexy and sweet with only a touch of conflict near the end. If you're looking for an easy read, you can definitely add this one to your list.

Not what I expected but overall an enjoyable enough read. It was touch and go at times.

Patrick Tennyson has one last chance to get his community service out of the way with The Companion Program. The last two kids hadn’t turned out well due to the mother’s being more interested in him then their kid’s well-being. He can’t and won’t go back to prison so he’ll do anything. Well nearly anything. He isn’t a hard core criminal he was a young kid that made a mistake now a grownup trying to lead a solid life. He has a business to run and needs to keep on track.

His world is about to change…

When they push her into the room wearing pink converse with a black dress, her crazy curls barely held back by the barrette in her hair, and studious glasses on her face,[…] Something inside of me breaks, and I want this girl to feel wanted again.

Hadley thought she was living the dream. Great house, money, good husband and then the icing on the cake a baby. That is until it all fell apart and Hadley was left with nothing. A single mom, a full time job and well no time for herself. But for her daughter she wants her to have a positive male role model in her life. So she signs Riley up to The Companionship Program.

I loved how Trick enjoyed every second he could spend with Riley and Hadley that it was the best thing that happened to him and that I took nothing for granted. I loved how Hadley enjoyed every second if unsure to begin with. She found someone she could rely on. That she took nothing for granted. They were friends but they didn’t stay in that zone for a while.

They have chemistry and I liked them together but there was that special something missing and this is a book that would hit the spot with all the tropes included but I can’t pinpoint it.

So why not 5 stars I hear you ask? Well not all of it worked well for me.

There were times where it was very repetitive to say the least. Yes, they both have demons that they try to work through but it was the same old same old every chapter or so. I found it tiring. After getting half way for the book I realised that the authors name rang a bell. And I remembered I started a book and didn’t mesh with the writing style so I didn’t consider continuing the book. Here it is the same that the writing style wasn’t to my liking. I felt engaged for ten to twenty minutes and then my interest waned but it did pick up again. That it was a back and forth which made my head hurt.

IMO this is a book that everyone will enjoy unless you’re picky like me.

2,5 stars

I usually like ex-convict stories if the guy turns out to be a decent one and the crime he has committed is not an unforgivable one. In this case, though, I had problems with the story for other reasons.

***********************************************

Patrick (Trick) Tennyson is an ex-convict and he made mistakes when he was young. It all happened because of his unhappy & problematic family life so it was easy for me to forgive him.

Now, Trick has to do some community service with The Companion Program because of his second mistake in recent years. He was matched with two kids in this program but as their mothers hit on him, it didn’t work. He wanted a child whose mum wouldn’t try to seduce him. Now, this third time will be his last chance or he will go back to jail.

Hadley is a divorced woman with a daughter whose father has abandoned her. Hadley needs to insert a male figure in her life to make her daughter see that not every guy disappoints her or leaves her. She needs to show her that she can be loved and cared about by a male figure.

That’s where the story loses me.

All through the book, I have witnessed that Trick was a good guy who could be trusted with a little girl but how would you know that at the beginning?

I am not a mother but if I were, I would never let my 6-year-old daughter spend time with an ex-con. I would only allow it after I get to know him well and decide he can be trusted.

Before knowing the guy, letting an ex-con enter their lives so easily and having unsupervised meetings with him sounded too risky to me and too dumb! Because it’s something I would never do, I didn’t understand the logic of the heroine and I was never able to relate to her. I was never able to connect with the character of Hadley because of many reasons and the primary one was that.

***********************************************

Luckily, and because this is a romance book, Trick turns out to be the Prince Charming – the coolest and most caring guy ever! However, for a guy who wanted a child whose mum wouldn’t try to seduce him, his being OK with Hadley ogling him was surprising at the beginning. And he showed insta-lust/insta-attention to the mother himself! And Hadley, who promised that she was not searching for a relationship at that stage of her life was also too quick to lust for Trick. When she understood he was also attracted to her, she was daring enough to get naked and join him in his shower, where their first kiss happened! And of course, he was OK with it – unlike in the two previous cases before Hadley.

I guess, only I was not OK with it.

Firstly, I didn’t understand why they were so attracted to each other. I didn’t feel the chemistry between them. I blame the writing for that!

Also, I didn’t understand how fast they became serious. How would things be so smooth, fast and easy between a guy who served time in jail and a woman who is a single mother? Come on, both of them had their own baggage and it was like those baggage never mattered for either of them. They were so welcoming and OK with everything. A few pages and they think the world of each other and nothing else matters.

***********************************************

When I cannot feel the chemistry between the characters and when I don’t believe in their attraction and commitment that happens so suddenly, then I cannot enjoy their story so I started to care less and less about them all through the book, which made me a bit fast-forward the book.

***********************************************

As a hero, I liked Trick but he didn't feel real to me. He doesn’t make any mistakes all along the book – he is the ultimate dream guy except for his past mistakes and now, he is doing all he can to redefine himself and his life. He is trying his best to set up a new and decent life.

As for Hadley, I can’t say she is my type of heroine because of all the reasons I have listed above and many more.

For example, I didn’t understand the dynamics of her previous marriage. Not only the husband was an as*hole, she was also wrong in many cases when the problems in her marriage are considered.

And she was also wrong in giving birth to a child her husband didn’t want at all and then expecting him to get involved in her life and be happy about it.

It was one way or the other!

Some people are not fit to be a mother or a father and her ex-husband was one of these people! So, either you don’t give birth to a child your husband doesn’t want or you don’t expect him to be happy about it. If you give birth to your child and risk losing your husband, then, you shouldn't b*tch about it afterwards.

Well, she hoped he would change, I can see that, but no one changes so dramatically, my dear, no one! So, in my opinion, neither of them was innocent in that case; only the child – the poor child was the victim of a non-matching couple!

***********************************************

There is no conflict, no separation, no cheating, no OW/OM drama between Trick and Hadley. Once they are together, it just gets better and stronger; no conflict there.

There was this guy called G. , who was causing problems for Trick and I thought he was going to do some damage to their relationship but then, nothing happened, he faded into the background and I didn’t understand why this guy was in this story or what his purpose was.

The conflict, on the other hand, comes from a cliché place – the ex-husband, who decides he wants joint custody and be the primary caretaker of their daughter. And his reasoning was so stupid! And the lawsuit scene was kinda ridiculous. Are people allowed to say what they like in a court before they are given the permission to talk??? In my country, they aren’t. Whatever, the conflict is solved way too easily.

***********************************************

Honestly, I only loved the part of the book that came after the lawsuit.

I loved the proposal scene – for me, the way he proposed was epic. There were tears in my eyes at the end of a book that I didn’t care much about so far!

The Epilogue about 3 years later was good, as well.

***********************************************

As for writing, it is written in dual point of view. It is kind of choppy and full of editing mistakes.

There are major grammar or spelling mistakes in sentences.
E.g. “Mr. Westin… how much time are willing to give your daughter?”

And also, there are problems with the time frame. The hours Trick needs to complete in the program and the time he spends with the little girl do not match!

All in all, the book needs a good editing!

Trick or Treat, well I guess you’ll find out !!

This story like many others in this world of single parents and second chances just flows so well. Laramie Briscoe can weave a tale that breaks your heart but also gives you hope. I love that Patrick aka Trick was given the opportunity to find real love with this little family of two.

They say opportunity in the form of a friendship bond is great but their attraction was so electric that this slow burn. The difference is they were allowed to take root but with the proper time and communication. No secrets were held between this couple and their vulnerability was probably my favorite part of this entire book.

But on a side note let me give you the meat and potatoes on this little giddy up. Trick is about to go back to prison unless he does community service and Hadley has given up on men. They meet because Trick’s community service is to work with small children and Hadley has a child who is losing faith in people keeping their promises.

In order for Trick to fulfill his community service he must build a relationship with this young girl and her mother. Show her that there are men out there who want to be apart of your life and that it is a joy to experience the happiness of family and friends.

Hadley is worried that things won’t work out and Trick will disappoint her little girl. But quite the opposite happens because Trick is not willing to let these two go. He’s found his new home. Laramie can write girl because this gave me hope, the depression and I had a strong desire to take a nap.

Happy reading everyone 🥹😍🥰😍

Trick is such a sweet read. Cadbury sweet. Low in angst, no push or pull from either characters. Although, there were some concerns on both parties which was understandable considering their pasts. Riley is very adorable and that epilogue was the icing to my cake.

So the chick in this story loses her hubby to the Secretary ( how original) and he wants nothing further to do with their daughter. So she does what any mother would do.....goes to local big brother\sister felon chapter to find her a felon to be a mentor her daughter. Yeah. This was almost a dnf the entire book. Very amateur writing and stupid story.

3.5 Super sweet stars. What is up with all the sugary sweet books lately?! I need to go find something with some grit.

Anyway - this is about two people finding each other. Overcoming MAJOR insecurities. With a cute little girl thrown in. NOTHING else. It is a sweet and very easy read. No real drama, no real pushing away - just lots of insecurity and negativity about it not lasting.

I found myself (again) waiting for something to happen. It never really did. Some really MILD drama towards the end does not count. I kept thinking the scenes with "G" would lead to something, but they ended up being a total waste of space.

I think this is a very good option for someone looking for a break from angst and drama.

Finally I'm finished. Well, this book has it all - hot, gorgeous tattooed hero; sexy, independent heroine with cute little girl; surprisingly good chemistry between Trick and Hadley, I totally loved their love scenes; Trick and Riley.... cuteness overload; There is nothing not to love about this but.... I couldn't form a connection with the characters. Everything went smoothly, maybe too smoothly. I got excited at the end, when finally something broke the happy conjunction of events. It just isn't my cup of tea.

Okay.   One little word – just a simple four-letter word.  But when spoken from the lips of a small curly-haired girl, it meant everything.

Patrick (Trick) Tennyson proves to be a shining and unforgettable character.  He’s had his share of troubles and woes and has spent time in prison.  He’s not happy to find that he’s landed himself in community service where they’ve matched him in the Companion Program with an adorable curly-headed six-year old — until he meets her and his heart breaks open to new hopes and dreams.

Hadley earned my respect right off the starting line.  Raising a daughter as a single mom myself, I felt her struggles and concerns and even the loneliness, along with the fear that goes along with making sure the needs of your child are met while working full-time to make ends meet.  Hadley is a strong and determined single mom whose first priority is making sure that her young daughter is well-cared for and has all her needs met.  After being abandoned by a husband twenty years her senior, who never wanted to be a father, she works hard to make sure life moves on smoothly always putting her child’s needs first.

I want him to break through her shell, like I haven’t been able to. I’ll help him as long as he takes interest because I truly believe he’s my last hope. If he can’t bring her back to me, I’m at a loss; I have no more ideas on what to do.

Riley, a little girl abandoned by her father, is precious!  She’ll steal your heart and never give it back — and you really won’t want it back.  The connection between her and the ex-con is endearing.  This new-to-me author has done a terrific job developing the sweet and tender relationship between these two.  Their interaction throughout the book is thoroughly captivating.

This is a heart-melting and touching love story that includes three very special characters.  The story is told in dual points of view.  Trick’s background seems to get the most attention — especially in the first half.  There are very few secondary characters which was really somewhat of a surprise to me with the type of storyline.  There is a running theme of overcoming your past and moving forward with your life.  Two very bruised and battered characters that need a second chance at all that life has to offer — and the struggles to conquer their fears.  And a little girl who gives them both the extra push to make it happen.

The cover – although some may find it very attractive — just didn’t do this story justice.  First, there’s so much more to Patrick “Trick” Tennyson than what this cover represents.  He’s not really a bad boy – at least not through and through.  Sure, he’s made some unwise decisions and paid a high price for them.  But I was on his side from the moment he set eyes on a sweet little girl, who was lost in her own way, along with her single mother.  I was taken by his desire and intention to make life a brighter place for them.

Why not 5 stars?  Repetitious overload.  Over-telling the same problems these characters suffer or have suffered in their pasts grew tiresome.  And although nothing major, there were more than enough noticeable editing problems to draw attention.

An Epilogue that offers a twofer view into the future of these characters at five months, and then jumps forward for another peek three-years later.  This trio of characters were well-deserving of the bestest of happily-ever-afters!  For a sweet read with a slow burn to the explosive heat and sizzle, this is a great choice.

For me, the story just didn't flow. The permanent changes of POV's after a very short section of story, where not a great deal would happen, interrupted the whole concept of a flowing story line for me.

Also, I didn't quite believe that a single mom would get her six year old daughter to play-dates with an ex-convict, who's, at the moment, on parole? Nope, don't think so. It's a romantic concept, really, I understand it. I love myself an ex-convict hero, who turns his life around and be the perfect man for his woman. But in this story it just didn't fit.

The last point was his age. He's 29, same as the heroine. I like my heroes older (than myself) and older than the heroine. But that's just personal preference.

This story isn't bad, there is nothing wrong with it. It's just not my cup of tea. So don't let this review stop you from reading this yourself.

I liked it, I just didn't love it as much as I thought I would. The entire premise had me excited when I read the blurb!

Also, I love when children are included in a story, and I loved little Riley. I loved the initial meeting, and all of their reactions to each other.

But then, for some reason, it dragged a little for me. Some things were working out too easily, and dare I say it, I wanted more angst!!!!!

Still a good in-between book if you are looking for something nice and sweet.

⭐⭐⭐ 3 Stars ⭐⭐⭐

What do you get with a reform bad boy and a single mom who’s trying her best to provide for her daughter? An inevitable attraction. Patrick and Hadley’s relationship came with so many obstacles that you couldn’t help but root for them and their happily ever after.

Patrick “Trick” Tennyson has gotten himself in a fair amount trouble that’s landed him in jail. Now on probation, he’s determined to walk a straight line and focus on his building up his business. Doing his community service at a companion program, Trick has run into a slight problem. The last two mothers has taken a keen interest to getting into his pants and he doesn’t want any part of that. On his last hope, he’s praying that his new kid will give him a chance and like him and her mother won’t have any type of sexual interest in him.

Hadley had everything a girl could dream of. Or so she thought. A gorgeous house, a successful husband, and a beautiful daughter that she would do anything for. Life wasn’t bad. That is until she finds out the type of man her husband truly is and he leaves her with nothing. You would think that Hadley would’ve been broken by that but she picked herself up and she made the best life possible for her and her daughter. But something important was missing in her daughter’s life and that was a male figure. Going into the companion’s program, Hadley is counting on Trick not to disappoint her daughter.

But what happens when they both come face to face and sparks fly?

I’m going to be honest and say that even though I didn’t enjoy some parts of the story, I really liked these characters. Hadley was such a strong heroine and she really put her all into everything she did. Her love for her daughter was selfless and I loved seeing how she interacted with her. Trick was as honest as they came and I loved that about him. He didn’t waste anyone’s time and when he said he was going to do something, he did it. He was a man of his word and from the first time he saw Riley, I knew he was going to be this big protective papa bear for her.

If you love a reformed bad boy, this one is for you.

SYNOPSIS:
Hadley

When my husband walked out on me over a year ago, it devastated me.

Trick

Community Service.

In the months that follow, I realize they’re just like me: they’ve been abandoned, left behind by the world, forgotten by those who should love them.

Thanks to the one last hope in both our lives - we found the light in the darkness we’d been searching for.

MY THOUGHTS:
This is book has sweet sexy heat. They have chemistry, but they can’t act on it. The electricity is crackling and they deny it, but for Riley and for his community service they must be friendly, but not too friendly. The electricity builds until the dam breaks and they fall. Hard.

Riley is absolutely adorable. She has a shy and sweet personality, but once she warms up, she is so engaging and Patrick (Trick) Tennyson can’t help but lose his heart to this little girl. He can’t understand why her father doesn’t want anything to do with her.

Patrick is the handsome, sexy, tatted bad boy that rides a Harley. He also has a sweet, caring soul. He’s an ex-con that made stupid mistakes when he was younger and he continues to pay for them. He is building his own business as a mechanic and is working hard to try and get his life back on track. Patrick has a sad backstory and he understands what Hadley and Riley are going through. Hadley also has a sad past and dealing with her ex-husband, ugh.

Hadley’s first impression when she sees Trick is she’s in trouble! She was angry at him when they first met because he was late to their first meeting and she didn’t want to see Riley disappointed again by yet another man. Trick said that he didn’t make promises, but said he wouldn’t be late again and wouldn’t do anything to disappoint Riley. He worked at making both Riley and Hadley very happy.

Hadley couldn’t fall in love again. What would happen if it didn’t work out and she and Riley ended up more broken than before? She couldn’t put Riley through that. Her heart told her different; she couldn’t help but fall for this sweet, gorgeous, giving man!

I won’t give anymore away. There are a few twists in the plot and the epilogue is awesome. I fully enjoyed every page of this story and highly recommend it.
