Tulsa, Oklahoma. 1995

Conrad “Radical” Jessup, Sergeant at Arms of the Brazen Bulls Motorcycle Club, has life just about where he wants it: he’s free of a bad marriage, and his club is cruising along healthy and strong, their business relationships as solid as their brotherhood. He’s a contented man, riding his road at his speed.

Until a massive highway wreck brings a blonde on a little sportster crashing into his life.

Willa Randall is making a new life in Tulsa, working hard to put a demolished past in her rearview mirror. Trying to keep herself safe, she’s built a life insulated by locks and walls. Inside those walls, she’s alone, but she feels secure, and that’s enough.

Until a big, tattooed biker holds out his hand and helps her up from the pavement.

A love seeded in chaos grows fast and deep. But when chaos is a constant, can any love endure?

Note: explicit sex and violence.

I was born and raised in the Midwest, but I was transplanted into the dusty soil of Northern California and have apparently taken root there. An inveterate geek and gamer, I am a fan of many things considered pop culture and maybe even lowbrow.

As a reader, my favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy, but as a writer, I've found my home in romance--or perhaps it's better to say simply "love stories." I have a yen to try other genres, too, at some point, but for now my muse wants to tell stories about lovers and families.

I write for the joy of it, and I write stories that I want to read. If others like them, too, that's just the cherry on top. I’m not interested in rules and formulae. I follow my muse and my characters and let them take me where they want to go, wherever that might be. I like big emotions, dark and light.

I like complicated characters with flaws and weaknesses as well as strengths, and I like each character’s strengths and weaknesses to be different from those of other characters. I’m much more concerned that my characters be interesting and diverse than that they be widely considered to be likable. I try to create people, not types.

Likewise, I want my stories each to be distinct from the others. Once I’ve told a story, I don’t want to tell it again. So even within a series, one of my books might be very different from the next. Some might be very dark, others equally mild.

That isn’t to say there aren’t trends and recurrences in my work. I’m drawn to certain themes and settings, and my muse has her favorite toys and tools. But I guard against those tendencies becoming a formula.

5 In the End, It's So Simple Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
We live our lives everyday... and very few people know our individual stories, I think. We have our outside personalities... the ones we share with co workers, neighbors and the like... but only a few actually know the true, raw us. Only the ones who we feel safe with... who are willing to see us for who we are...To be able to understand our needs and let us know they are ok with it.
I think the world works like that too in some way... The shops do their business, the schools teach the kids and communities make motions about where signs can be posted...
But with all those seemingly easy simple things...there are complex feelings, struggles and emotions all bubbling underneath a very fragile layer...and it is the keeping of that layer firmly in place which makes every day life seem simple...

Every time I read Fanetti.... she and her muse Lola... pick at that layer of seemingly simple... and pull back just enough to show the complex underneath. She has done it in all of her series to varying degrees and in Crash (Brazen Bulls MC #1) she has not stopped.

This series starts in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1995.
Not everyone had those chunky cell phones....Beepers were the thing if you wanted to get to someone fast. Computers were boxy and tied to desks with lots of cords.
Parts of the country had had oil booms and now were left for more promising areas. People who had prospered were now barely holding on. Veterans were coming back from war and not finding things as they were or easy. Discontent with what they may have experienced caused them to see... others rules may not be their rules.

What we have from the start is a meeting between two people who seem to be destined to be. All that has happened prior to their meeting has not been easy for either of them. They have endured, figured out what worked and now were set and living their way. Both had closed themselves off from things many of us take for granted...

For "Rad", Sergeant at Arms of the Brazen Bulls Motorcycle Club, he lived through a crappy marriage, learned that lesson , stayed focused on being a righteous Club Brother and feeling the freedom of the ride. Never had a great family life, so the club was his family now and he was all in. He had no problem being alone... actually liked riding that way most of the time...as in formations but single file. He was an enforcer... had used his strength, had been shot, knifed and had many other scars with different stories attached to them... private ones.

Rad liked to do... feel the gut instinct and go.... but as he matured, he saw that sometimes it was better to think a bit more when he was able to step away from a situation. He felt best when protecting what was his... whether it was his ex before things went south or his Pres and Club. He knew who he was and had his life....bloody or not...he was fine with it all.

Will Randall had her life, too. She also had become set with it. She had made the best of a horrific situation not of her making. She had lived through everything a woman would not want...possessiveness to the point of danger...She had become her own warrior afterwards and figured out Tulsa was where she was going to live without running. She escaped small town living, got a scholarship and became a nurse. She loved her family but knew she needed to be away from them. She created her own family of a pit bull named Ollie. a garden with purple flowers and doors with multiple keyed locks.

Willa was no fragile flower; she grew up in West Texas and was taught how to use a gun and ride a motorcycle. She had her own sporty model and she was on the road when Rad first sees her.

There had been a huge charity event in Houston and Willa felt it would be safe enough for her family to meet up with her there. Lots of people, lots of clubs and brothers ...easy to not be seen. Willa had had a good time and was on the highway going back to Tulsa.

Rad and the Bulls had been at the event. Many other clubs and lone riders all had gotten together to assist with raising money, doing good works and just hanging out. It had been a fine weekend.

As the Bulls rode in formation, other riders would move in and out. There was a nod to the "Big Bad Cyclists with their Harleys" from young couples on motorcycles imported from Japan...with both being friendly and respectful. An understanding of the road and code.

Will in full gear with a face helmet rode for a short time near Rad. He was struck by how she handled her sporty and liked gazing at her seat... it was something to enjoy. She turned to look at him and Rad knew she had nailed him looking... she shook her head and rode off.

It a moment everything changes... just like life... and Chaos happens.
The Bulls all go to see how they can assist with the road accidents and Rad goes to where Willa is laying on the side of the road. Her ride is twisted and she is stunned. Rad has his hand out to her asking if she is ok...

We are there when both of these two connect... and then develop a thread of knowing...There is something which both of them will not be able to deny. It will start rocky at first and then with a way of both communicating exactly what concerns them each and every time...they become solid.

It is a struggle in the beginning for both of them because she lost a part of her self when she experienced extreme and perverted possessiveness. Willa will never allow herself to be dictated to again...be told what to do or where she can go.

Rad knows all too well how he can be a possessive ass... he ex called him Assh@le every chance she could...But with Willa he knows he is not the ex in any way and only is looking out for her well being.

It is this constant push pull which makes them work for the relationship. Rad is this extremely tough badass... no doubt. But with Willa he has found a peace and it is what he needs.

This series was so well done in the way it introduced new characters and woven in others from the Signal Bend series. There was also an introduction to the new Russian Mob presence...These characters are part of another author's upcoming work. All of this is happening in 1995 which means if you have read the Signal Bend Series... you will be getting insight to the past... to the club at a different time... with different players at the head and those you know... young and finding their way.

I started this review with the concept of simple and complex...The way Fannetti weaves her tales is straight forward in that they are extremely easy to follow. Yet there is always more happening just below the surface... it could be in a description... or how someone looks at another. It could be the discussion of how towns turned to dust yet didn't die because the generations who lived there had holding on in their DNA.

These are just minor examples of what I am meaning with Simple and Complex because every action has a reaction in life as well as in novels... And it is simply a matter of what we must go through to get to where we are and who we are with...The times before and during may be complicated... filled with serious questions and concerns... but in the end... it will always breakdown to a simple question requiring a simple answer...

The simple idea of loving another and saying it out right is presented. It is coupled with the concern of time... too fast ...or not long enough... and every step in figuring these things out works.

Fannetti is not cheesy and she will not hold your hand. Her muse Lola has no qualms deciding to quench her blood lust. She may not do it in this installment... but if inclined it could happen in the next... or not... A reader never knows.

As you can tell, I practically read this in one sitting... and would have if I was able to skip Real Life.
This is the start...we have a very strong beginning and I cannot wait for my next entry.

Susan Fanetti gifts the start of this new MC series set in the Tulsa, Oklahoma in the year 1995. This new series is about the Brazen Bulls MC’s Sergeant at Arms’ Conrad ‘Radical’ Jessup’s fall for the motorcycle riding nurse, Willa Randall. The title is perfect for this story as Willa and Rad meet one another in the midst of a major highway accident. Once these two help others in this enormous wreck the fall for each other isn’t far behind.

description

Willa is hiding from her newly released from prison ex. Rad helps her feel more secure and she finds that she is ready to start living again with him. Rad and the Bulls are dealing with the Russians and their allies, our friends from Signal Bend. Their fall into a relationship and love happens a bit too quickly for me.

”I didn’t realize how I’d cut myself off, how many barriers I’d put between me and everybody else in the world, until you crashed through them.”

description

The part of this story that threw me was that there was one major catastrophe after another. They survived the Winchester Wreck, the Oklahoma City bombing, a killer ex, and the repercussions of a snitch in the club just too many for one book.

description

Overall, this is a solid start to a new series with likable characters that I’m interested in reading more about. The writing is very good however I think the storyline was just too many huge events thrown in and simply too quickly they became a couple. I don’t think I fell along with Rad and Willa or even was wowed by their connection. Nevertheless, I’m excited to read more about this MC Club in the future.

BEST NEWS!!! A new MC series by a favorite author!!

description

Crash starts out intense and continues that way until the end of the book. Willa and Rad meet under less than desirable circumstances. Their shared experience bonds these two strangers together.

Rad was previously married to a woman who wasn’t faithful. Since that time he’s steered clear of getting involved romantically with anyone. The club girls work just fine for him. He’s SAA for his MC and not having the complication of a relationship is where he's at in his life.

Willa is from a small town where girls grow up to be barefoot and pregnant. Willa bucked the system by attending college and becoming a nurse. Her high school sweetheart wasn't too happy that she was unwilling to keep their lifestyle at status quo.

As stated above these two met during a chaotic time. Neither one is sure they’re ready to explore the connection they felt for one another but the pull is too strong for them to ignore it. Willa is just trying to survive one day at a time. She isn’t wanting a relationship like she had back home with her ex where the guy rules her world. Rad isn’t sure he’s ready to be in a committed relationship after the drama his ex-wife put him through. The circumstance that brought them together created a survivor's bond between the two of them that can’t be ignored.

”Since she’d joined Rad’s life, she’d taken her hands off the wheel - or the handlebars - and was just enjoying the thrill of the ride, hoping they wouldn’t CRASH headlong into disaster.”

Despite their horrific first meeting, these two were an amazing couple. Both complimenting each other's weaknesses and strengthens. It was like the universe was waiting for just the right moment to push these two together.

Oh yea, and there is one other main character who deserves to be recognized - Willa’s pitbull Ollie. I really enjoy how Ms. Fanetti captures the true nature of animals in her stories. My heart was with Ollie and his protective nature. A dog’s loyalty is uncomparable and while reading Ollie’s scenes I snuggled up to my fur baby.

CRASH has a great story arc that I look forward to reading more about as I follow these Bulls in the upcoming books. You can read this series without having read any of the other MC series Ms. Fanetti has written, so far. This series is set back before her other series … in 1995.

Overall Opinion: This was a little less than "just ok" for me. I was bored at times, and I even skimmed some towards the end because I was over some of the drama. I also had quite a few moments of "why is this important?". There were scenes that were put in throughout the book that after I finished I really do wonder why they were included, because they don't make sense in the overall picture of the story. I felt like it was often unfocused and would have random tangents that actually bored me more than anything. I also didn't feel the connection with the h and H. It was way too instalove for me, but I do know that many readers love that! It had what felt like non-stop drama, instalove with a possessive H, and a HEA...so I'm sure many people will still enjoy it even though it wasn't for me ;)

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Willa and Rad's story. They meet one night when there is a massive crash on the highway when they were both heading back home to Tulsa, Oklahoma. They both work to help the people involved in the crash, and Rad ends up giving Willa a ride home. They are instantly bonded by this experience, and they cannot deny their attraction. There is some club and ex drama, some sexy times, and some other tragic events that they experience together...and they do get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between focusing on Willa and Rad in 3rd person narrative.

Overall Pace of Story: Ok. I did skim some around the 80ish% mark, because it veered off into too much mc business that I honestly just didn't care about.

Instalove: Yes. This bothered me, because I didn't really feel the connection enough for them to be jumping into those strong feelings. They had known each other for only a few days before both of them said in their inner thoughts that they were in deep with the other. I'm thinking the tragic events are what was supposed to bond them so quickly, but I just didn't get it.

H rating: 3 stars. Rad. Meh, he was just ok. He was a pretty sensitive guy (with things like being called an a-hole) considering he killed people for the club, and that dichotomy had me scratching my head at times.

h rating: 3 stars. Willa. Meh, she was just ok too. I did think that she had a few tstl moments when she was trying to be "strong".

Sadness level: Low. I didn't need any tissues, but it does cover some heavy subjects that might effect others differently.

Push/Pull: Not really

Heat level: Moderate. They have decent chemistry and scenes.

Descriptive sex: Yes. Some scenes do skip ahead, but most are descriptive.

Safe sex: Yes and no.

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: No

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had decent closure with what I would call a HEA ending.

How I got it: I paid the $3.99 on Amazon for it.

Safety: I'd call this one Safe with exception

June 2023 - I guess there's something about June and the Brazen Bulls....
June 2020 - series re-read. I love Rad and Willa and the Brazen Bulls. It's so different from the Night Horde and yet so familiar too.

5 ”Best you come to terms with that.” Stars

Like all Fanetti books preceding Crash when I sat down to read I felt so eager, so excited, to learn about two new characters within her MC worlds. This book is exactly what I’ve been looking for in MC romance. Smart, sexy, gritty, and violent Fanetti has already shaped the series so we fall in love with the club and the individual families who comprise it and want more far past the end. Her intelligent prose coupled with interesting characters who are interesting because they’re real and have strong beliefs and substance keep you enthralled. It’s easy for me to become engrossed in a Fanetti story in a way that hours can pass and I don’t even realize.

Meeting Rad and Willa, two people for whom Fanetti allows readers to know intimately through her beautiful words and brilliant story-telling exceeded all my expectations. From the very first moment they met I could feel their connection and as Rad barged right into Willa’s neatly and lonely crafted life I felt that connection so much stronger. There’s a quality seemingly ethereal about the connection between these two. The raw honesty of these characters shows both vulnerability and steadfast commitments in regards to their feelings. These two perpetuate what I love most about Fanetti’s MC romances. That being the angst is driven from outside forces and events. Her characters are strong and the push/pull of their feelings doesn’t come from them as people but towards the circumstances surrounding them.

As thought provoking as always, Crash blazes a trail in an MC world where justice, propriety, and basic human decency bases itself upon good versus evil. How we view the world and how simple-minded men with a very distinct moral code view the world and why the difference can be quite humbling. As outlaws are perceived as bad men we get to focus on why, very acutely, they are not. In the same experience we see a woman shut off from life due the dangers she’s faced previously. We fall in love with her strength and her resilience. She’s seen and be handed pure evil yet she picks herself up with a clear sense of who she is and who she wants to be. These characters are inspired in a world full of danger yet complete with love and loyalty.

Crash provided everything and more that I love in a Susan Fanetti MC book. I’m so excited to see where this author takes us with this club. I already fell hard to the entirety of the club with this one story and want a book for each member I met, including those already with old ladies. If you haven’t yet read an MC Romance by this author Crash could be a good place to start as Fanetti takes you back in time a bit to 1995 before her other MC stories play out and the way those stories interact with each other will be interesting to watch. I’m excited about this new venture and about the Bulls. I’m beyond ready for more. Intelligent and literary, gritty and sexy - Crash is perfect MC Romance. All the stars and all the thanks to this author; her gift for story telling continually sates my reading soul.

Can any MC series live up to Signal Bend? The Brazen Bulls & The Night Horde SoCal comes pretty damn close! Its not surprising considering all the series are written by bad ass biker romance extraordinaire Susan Fanetti.

Brazen Bull MC is a new series with ties from the previous two, kicks off Rad & Willa’s story. Rich in lifestyle and culture and throw in mafia connections and you have explosive story lines!

FIVE STARS*****

MC themed book at it's finest. Crash literally crashed into my heart from the moment I opened this book. I've been a hard core Susan Fanetti fan for a few years now, but I hadn't read one of her books in a while. Reading this new series feels like coming home to me, its where my heart belongs. This is a high quality MC novel, just loved it!

Yay!

I really like Susan Fanetti's books!

The characters were absolutely delicious; not only do we have the badass hero, we also have a strong heroine. She's independent and she doesn't really need the hero to resolve all her problems and I love that in a romance book.

The plot was fun and the book was hard to put down.
All in all, a good MC book, worth reading if you like this sort of thing.

Another MC by Susan Fanetti?!?! I'm in!!

5 Crashing Into Life Stars

Took me a bit to read this cause my everyday life is pure craziness.

Willa was running and fate decided to stop her. I mean literally stopped her cause she crashed her bike!! Then this handsome rugged man held out his hand.....

Rad is carefree man who is content with his lifestyle. His brothers and the Bulls are all he needed but that is about to change when a total badass chick rode pass by him.

Highly recommended it!!

“Thank you, baby,” he said, but the line was dead already.
Everybody was hanging up on him tonight.”

Willa is a badass heroine. I loved her immediately. A dedicated nurse who loves her work in Labor & Delivery. When she and Rad crashes into one another an immediate attraction sparks. Rad is all alpha but in the way that I like. He cares so much and wants to do that to Willa. Be the man she confides in and just be with her. It was exhilarating following Rad and Willa as they explored their relationship. They both have baggage and how they involved one another in their past was one of many reasons why I fell in love with them. Individually and as a couple. Rad and his club the Brazen Bulls added the suspense element to the story. The other members of the club was introduced and I am already intrigued and eager to read their books. What a fabulous, thrilling and sexy introduction to this MC.

when susan fanetti starts a new mc series i am a reader that will be there with bells on. this was a solid start to a series with likeable characters and an engaging plot. i rated it 3.5 stars only because for me there was just too much going on at times. one catastrophe followed another with one coming from nowhere at 94% that felt a little rushed once resolved. i love drama but everything you could think of happened within this one. i still enjoyed it though. 3 stars is not a bad rating! i liked both our heroine and hero, no faults to either of them. i always love the couples susan writes. they jump off the pages with each heroine being unique to her own. the relationship between rad and willa may of moved at lightening speed but was really enjoyable. i finished this one very quick, it keeps you interested all the way. definitely looking forward to what is to come.

I knew Susan Fanetti would restore my faith in my favorite theme. I'd been in biker-romance-DNF-hell for a minute, but this book set me free. Rad the Sergeant at Arms of the Brazen Bulls Motorcycle Club, meets Willa a nurse in the chaos of a highway pile up. Both coming out of bad relationships, but open to explore the chemistry that sparks between them. This is a little angsty, but not an overload of it. I loved that Willa wasn't a whiny chick despite some chilling things in her past. I liked Rad, but the heroine was a major factor in the success of this read. . It was interesting to have everything set in the nineties too. Bonus points for her lovable, killer dog.

Thoughtfully plotted. That's an odd way to start a review I know, but it's important. Motivations, actions, reactions and consequences make sense with just a very few minor quibbles. I have trouble with one percenter motorcycle romances. Usually prefer my heroes not be criminals but she sold me on it here. I didn't love it but she made her hero believable and relatable somehow. The heroine was interesting and well developed. I had trouble with her reaction to one of her own actions but maybe the trauma she had suffered explained it. But maybe it was an example of everything that made her the type of person who could accept the type of person he was and the life she was getting into.

Might read more by this author.

Great story

Wow I am beginning to think everything Ms. Fanetti writes is fantastic! I have read her Vikings and thought I would try out her MCs.

Radical is HOT. I didn't have to hate him and then learn to like him. He was who he was and put it all up front. You cannot fault that. Rad was one patient man and only lost it once but for good reason. I like how he showed his emotions and it didn't take away from his manliness.

Willa was one tough as nails woman. The plot twist for her was like WOW! I totally didn't see that one coming. She made me frustrated, but I knew where she was coming from. I also liked that she took her time and that Rad gave her that time.

Great story with lots of drama.

This series is Hard, Tough, Gritty, Real, Dangerous, Mean, Murderous, Loving, Wondrous, Promising, Heart-Wrenching, Soul Touching....

I could go on but I think you can get my drift... My one criteria for a really good book is that it has to touch my soul, make me cry and laugh and fall in love... Susan Fanetti is the master!

If you love a good story that grabs you and wrings you out and won't let you go...this series is for you...

I am a fan of Susan Fanetti and her wonderful worlds...and her gift!

I really liked this book! Set slightly in the past (1990s before cell phones), it brings a new MC in touch with an earlier Night Horde (from the Signal Bend series) and the Russians of a soon-to-be-published mafia series by Catherine Johnson.

Lots of action. Smex scenes are particularly well-written (not all authors can do that). Not much time anywhere to be bored.

Of course I'm excited that Fanetti has come out with another MC series. However this was a lukewarm start.

I didn't fall for Rad, and even though Willa showed strength (as many Fanetti heroines are wont to do), I had a hang up with how she went about a couple of things.

Nevertheless, this start to the Brazen Bulls series was decent; meaning, I would read the next one, because for one, Fanetti hasn't written badly--yet-- and for two, I still have a little crush on this author's writing (i.e. her Viking series and Signal Bend).

This is my second biker's book from Ms. Fanetti, or no, actually the 3rd.

For me, is not as good as Signal Bend #1 but certainly better than Signal Bend #2 which I DNF because I don't like to read my heroine got rape after she got her HEA and before this one I actually stop reading Ms. Fanetti's biker books.

So, why did I read this one? I read from some reviews it has a good romance and it does.
I might not like many of her story lines, but I can say easily that Ms. Fanetti is a very good writer.
And I love the loving between Rad and Willa, rather insta but believable.

There are few more characters in this books which interesting, like Gunner and Simon, oh we met Young Isaac too:)

So will I read the next book in the this series later on? Probably NO.
Oh maybe I will read after the series ended and she didn't kill the previous H/h from the series.
You see, I found that, this author love to give us a 'shock factor' in her books by killing the previous H/h or other characters that we've grown to love, maybe her fans love that stuff, I don't.
I won't waste my time and money for a delicious book only to find out he or she got killed down the line in the series.
Nah..

Another great series by Fanetti. Set in a time period before the Signal Bend series, it gives some background on how the Horde came into being. Great characters and a poignant love story. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Second read of this one for me. Still 5 stars. Loved the slow build of the relationship and as usual this author can bring out a wide range of emotions.

Great story! Hate stalkers. Loved the couple. And the beginning of this series.

SF writes some intense MC stories. This series is acknowledged as the glue between some of the other stories in this "universe".

While not as violent as the Signal Bend series, it's still got the toughness and craziness of the genre. I liked these characters and will continue to read the series.

Well. This series will fill the void left by The Horde very well indeed.

This book felt a bit less menacing than the previous MC series from Fanetti and the H here could have popped straight from a KA romance. He's all alpha and bossy but a big marshmallow as well.

Willa is hiding from an abusive violent ex when she is caught up in a huge highway pile up, on her motorbike. While she is injured, she does what she can for other accident victims around her.

Rad, SAA for the Brazen Bulls sees Willa's bike drop and goes to her aid. They work side by side to help emergency workers and by the end of the day Rad is hooked. He needs to know more about her.

There is a lot of world building in this book as the reader is introduced to a new 'cast'/motorcycle club family. And there are some great characters here, I'm dying to get to know.

Set in mid 1990's there are cameos from young Horde members, which adds another layer.....(young Isaac going up against his brutal father).

If this series follows the format of her other series, Fanetti will slowly turn up the heat...the suspense...and the blood will flow for sure.

I'm hooked.

4 stars.

Anything this author writes, I devour. So, when she said she was releasing a new MC book with some tidbits of her other MC books in the story, I was so excited!
Crash does not disappoint.
From Rad and Willa's very first encounter I knew I'd love this book. What a great first meet they have, whoa, all the feels! And it just grows stronger
and better between them from the start. I have enjoyed these two characters and their story immensely. I also loved watching the story grow especially knowing that the growth is leading us to more stories in this series. I can't wait to see what's to come from these Brazen Bulls!
Kudos to you, Susan Fanetti, for writing the hell out of these MC books and dragging me along for the epic adventures you concoct in that brilliant mind of yours!
