This was another good volume, but didn't quite reach "great" status.
The first story, The Crone, was classic Sandman Mystery Theatre. However, the second story, the Cannon, confused me, and that's the first time that's happened in this series. The plot just got a little convoluted, which hasn't happened in this series before.
That being said, this is still a great series and I hate that I'm getting near the end of it.

The Crone, ossia la strega, nella sua rappresentazione dell'anziana malevola, è in realtà un giallo decisamente buono che parla dei rapporti tra i diversi media e dell'esagerazione che spesso alcuni attribuiscono loro. In particolare nella storia lo "scontro" è tra la letteratura e la radio.
Con The Cannon assistiamo alla visita negli States dell'omonimo personaggio, il sacerdote inglese già conosciuto qualche albo fa, per una questione di oro rubato dai nazisti. The Cannon è uno dei personaggi che scopre la vera identità di Sandman, e come anche Humpries il maggiordomo e Dian Belmont siano a conoscenza del fatto.
Tra le cose notevoli di questo ciclo c'è anche la scelta di Dian di abortire, e la presentazione del dr McNider, futuro Dr. Mid-Nite. Il modo in cui gli autori affrontano tutta la questione è notevole per delicatezza e profondità.
Siamo sulle 4 stelle e mezza, perché i disegni non sono sempre all'altezza.
