When games are this lifelike, who needs reality? It's a question Tau Ceti private eye Rich Weed has never wrestled with. He prefers his handshakes firm and his women fleshy, not pixilated. But when a missing persons case takes an unexpected turn, Rich is forced to dive into the digital world of fully immersive Brain games--and fend for his life therein.
Luckily, the games aren't real, but the nefarious scheme he finds himself mired in upon logging out certainly is. With a fellow detective at his side, Rich must untangle the threads of a twisted conspiracy in pursuit of an interplanetary con artist, all while putting his neck squarely on the line. The difference is, in the real world--there are no respawns.
Hi! I'm mystery, fantasy, and science fiction author Alex P. Berg. Be sure to check out my bestselling Daggers & Steele series, a fun, fast-paced fantasy/noir mystery hybrid! I've also written urban fantasy, epic sci-fi, and more.
My review rating system is as follows: 5 = Amazing, I absolutely loved it! (Fantastic!) 4 = A very good book, although I had a few quibbles with it. (Great!) 3 = A book I liked, but either it had a few more serious problems or I didn't connect well with it. (Still good!) 2 = I had major issues with this book. (Not very good...) 1 = Unfortunately, I hated this book. (Real bad!) DNFs get no star rating.
Smooth writing style. Fun and satisfying action on almost every page. Entertaining dialog and fast pacing. Looking forward to the next story, and the next after that.
A good wrap up to the series. Like the others, the plot was engaging though not particularly complex. The relationship between the characters was also well done. The world itself has plenty of food for thought and this story drove that home more than the previous one.s
