I really do enjoy science fiction, but I don’t enjoy the foul language or explicit scenes that seem to be part and parcel of a lot of what’s available today. Christian science fiction or fantasy is difficult to come by; those without magical elements, which I personally don’t read, even harder. After this one was brought to my attention, I decided to take a chance, and I couldn’t be happier with the book I read. Anna Zogg has crafted an exceptional example of Christian sci-fi with outstanding world-building, multi-faceted characters, a sweet romance, and a compelling plot.

Sometimes it can take a bit to get involved in a book, and I try to give at least a few chapters for the book to capture me. In this novel, however, I was pretty hooked from the first few pages, and an absolute lost cause with that final sentence in the first chapter. From then on, I paged through as fast as I could read, unable to put the book down. The mystery of what is happening and why did not leave my thoughts for long, even when I had to step away from the fantasy for a while.

Her setting is well described, different from earth and yet not so alien as to be unrelatable. Many of the plants and animals compared to earth examples yet varied as to colors and textures. I appreciated her gradual world-building that kept a hint of mystery to the environment while simultaneously allowing me to experience this new place and learn about it without overwhelming me or the storyline.

The characters are another plus to this novel. Aric almost seemed too timid at first to be part of an off-world expedition, but I could see that her love of science and discovery overrules her reticent nature when she becomes wrapped up in her discoveries. Sean is completely believable and I liked watching him struggle with the mission he was given and the things he sees first hand as time passes. The developing romance is natural and enjoyable, especially as it is often the vehicle that allows us to understand these characters more.

And this is not simply a “clean” science-fiction story, either, though that would have been all right, too. There is a very strong Christian element that flows innately from Aric’s convictions and provides motivation for her actions—both professionally and personally. I appreciate the realistic depiction of my own faith, recognizable despite the different time and place.

This fast paced novel is excellent and will appeal to those who enjoy science-fiction. The faith elements are well-done and the clean storyline makes this action-filled novel a great choice for adults. A few sensitive moments, all kept appropriate and within context but recalling an assault, do caution at least high school aged readership and up. I look forward to reading the next two books of the Intergalaxia Novels, as well as any future books Ms. Zogg pens.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher but no compensation for this review. I was not required to write a favorable one and the opinions expressed are both honest and my own.

I've always had a deep love for science fiction and was excited about the opportunity to read this book. This was my first experience with this author and the blurb hooked me right away. The description of the world, from the sentient lifeforms to the local flora and fauna were terrific. The technology was enough to give a hint of a futuristic bent, without losing the reader completely in scientific jargon. It allowed more of a focus on character development and the story.

Unfortunately, this was where I found the book to stumble a bit. There were a few inconsistencies in the plot that pulled me right out of the story -- especially in the latter half of the book. I can't go into details without sharing spoilers, but these were pretty big issues that should have been addressed. Then, we have the issue with the main character...

Aric Linquist is the heroine of our story and believes she's been abandoned on this planet. In my opinion, it takes an especially strong-willed woman to leave her family, daughter, and friends behind to go off-planet for years.... to not only survive but thrive in a hostile environment. Kudos to her for shouldering this amount of bravery! As such, I expected her to be a strong and competent woman, but she came across as rather wimpy, meek and mild-mannered. She gave in far too often to her male "assistant's" requests and demands, deferring to him on multiple occasions even though she was supposed to be the Team Leader.

I also had issues with some of the religious undercurrents (and inconsistencies) in the book. This is a personal opinion only, but I felt as though it took away from the science fiction elements of the book. I enjoy religious undertones in other genres, but not usually in this type of science fiction work. I don't believe that this main character did any credit to incorporate faith into the science fiction genre. If anything, it was diminished by the main character's inconsistencies and her fluctuating moral compass (don't preach it if you don't practice it, sister).

When our meek and mild heroine simply threw up her hands and claimed she couldn't get hot and heavy with our sexy hero because they weren't married, I choked on my drink, nearly spraying water out of my nose.

I'm sorry, but if I'm trapped off-planet light years away from home and there's no other human around... and some hunky hottie lands in my lap and offers to warm up my sheets... I'm NOT going to tell him I'm saving myself for marriage -- especially when I've already been married, divorced and had a kid. She's been stuck on that planet for months without supplies! She doesn't even have a freaking uniform to wear! Come on, girl! You're shaming the sisterhood! Grab that hunk of man and wear him like a toga or a hat. Sheesh.

All in all, I enjoyed the story. I'd like to check out more of Ms. Zogg's books, but I might be a bit leery if her other science fiction works share the same religious angle. Maybe if they showed religion as a way of empowerment instead of an obstacle instead? Now there's a twist.

This was my first encounter with Anna Zogg, and it will not be my last. (Seriously: I purchased The Xerxes Factor- volume two of what promises to be an outstanding series- the instant I finished this one.)

I love science fiction; have done so since first being introduced to Ray Bradbury back in 5th grade (in the early 70's; so, a long time ago). My only regret is that so much of it (especially nowadays) is peppered with vulgarity, perversity, graphic violence, and immorality. I had pretty much given up on the genre years before because I couldn't in good conscience, as a Christian, bring that filth into my home or my head.

Zogg has changed all that for me because she's managed to deftly weave a fantastic miscellany of action, mystery, romance, space travel, and Christian fiction; throwing in some great characterization, a wonderful (in the truest sense of the word) new world, and an intriguing plot for good measure. I was captivated from the very beginning by Aric- she seemed a credible mix of scientist, adventurer, and woman- and how she adjusted to the seemingly unending challenges thrown her way. Then along comes Sean, whom I very much did not want to like (he's the bad guy, right?) but found myself rooting for anyway. And don't get me started on Julian...!

I am one of those irritating personalities who likes to figure out where things are headed from the get-go. Sometimes I guessed correctly (yay, me!), but I was pleasantly surprised by many of the twists (thanks and hooray, Anna!). I think you will agree that this is worth your time and money. And that the whole series is, too.

I received an ARC for my impartial and honest review (but then, when I'd finished, I ended up buying a copy for my Kindle anyway, it was so good!).

Let me tell you about Paradise Protocol by Anna Zogg. It’s a Christian sci-fi novel with a little bit of romance.

The main character is a female scientist. She has been living on and studying a new planet for some time. Her parter disappeared, and she believes she’s been stranded without the help of those who sent her, and so she’s been surviving without aid for months. Then a new assistant from agency shows up, but he seems suspicious more than helpful. She isn’t sure what to do, but she’s stuck with him for now.

This book was a very interesting story. I don’t usually read sci-fi, but I enjoyed it very much. The plot and the mystery were good. There was a little romance, and it was sweet and clean. I appreciated that the story was Christian, and the characters’ relationships with God grew.

The details about the sci-fi world were creative and interesting. There were so many things that could kill a person, but the main character had most of it figured out from living there for a while. There were also “aliens” in the story; they weren’t major characters but rather more of an indigenous tribe living on the planet which the scientists were there to observe.

I read this book as an audiobook, and I enjoyed it very much. The narrator was good and enjoyable to listen to. I would listen to his books again.

This book was an entertaining Christian sci-fi novel with a little romance and mystery, and I would be happy to recommend it to others.

I received a complementary copy of his book as an audiobook. I was not compensated for reviewing it, and every option expressed is my own.

Think The Martian meets the movie Avatar with an added suspense element. So, suspenseful sci fi.

I loved this book! I kept finding excuses to pick up my Kindle and read.

Aric is a scientist living and studying on the newly discovered world of Empusa III. Her assistant Julian has gone missing and is presumed dead. She is alone. Although there are indigenous humanoids on the planet, Aric follows the same kind of ethical procedures Spock would as far as not disturbing them or interacting with them.

When Sean is sent as her next assistant, Aric wonders why he doesn't seem like a typical scientist, but she has no idea why he's really been sent. The question is...will he carry out his cruel orders? And just what happened to Julian? Someone is lying.

I love how the author uses opposing goals for Aric and Sean. I was uncertain how things would play out. And the missing person element provided another level of uncertainty.

The world building is great too. Because Aric is a scientist studying this planet and Sean is a newcomer, the reader is introduced in an organic manner to the world and doesn't feel lost. Some of the wildlife is quite dangerous, and the two have some terrifying encounters.

In a way, I was reminded of THESE BROKEN STARS. Although the relationship development is a bit different, this book had a similar situation where the two characters were forced to survive together on an isolated setting. And I loved the added the aforementioned suspense element.

Don't miss this one!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

Christian science fiction, heavy on the romance. The characters are well-developed and the plot compelling. This book is the first in Zogg's Intergalaxia series, and I am eager to read the rest!

I am not much for sci-fi but reading a Christian sci-fi was different and very intriguing. Anna Zogg was very descriptive with her character's and there was no foul language like mainstream novels.

The Paradise Protocol starts off with a bang and ropes you into caring about the MCs immediately. Why is the first alone? Who is the second and what exactly is his mission here? And what is the SARC up to, since it seems something is up to no good…
These questions and more just keep building.

As the fast paced action rises, the stakes do too, and the two main characters become more and more compelling… to the reader, and each other.

A very successful spinning of romantic tension, set in a sci-fi world that felt real and relatable. And even at times magically beautiful.

Well done, indeed!!!

The teaser at the end introducing the next book leaves you on the edge or your seat, so you might want to consider buying the series straight off to start with. ;-)

An Exciting Character-Driven Sci-Fi

I started reading The Paradise Protocol without really knowing what to expect. Right away I was presented as a reader with multiple points of mystery within the story that kept me engaged. What really won me over was the character development. Learning about the two leads over the course of the story was the main thing that made me race through the story, eager to know how it would end. The setting was beautiful and so creative, lending a fascinating backdrop to Aric and Sean's story. I fully intend to read the other books in this series now!

Christian Sci-fi Romance

So, as this was my first book in the genre, I wasn't sure what to expect. It sounded great "on paper" (forgive the pun, I couldn't resist) but I learned long ago that things don't always pan out as hoped for. All that to say, this was an auspicious beginning. The characters were well-developed, the plot had just the right amount of twists, and the setting was great. Like many romances, the end tends to occur and wrap up rather quickly. No real complaints, as it's a series and the ending had an overall satisfying conclusion.

This is a refreshing sci-fi story that relies on character building and not gadgets. The world on which this takes place becomes a character as well. It is filled with fascinating creatures and even more fascinating plant life. As the mysteries of this planet are slowly revealed it becomes easier and easier to visualize to the point that I wish it actually existed because I would love to visit it and hike through its lush forests.

This was the first book I have read by Anna Zogg. I won a copy of this book and didn't know what to expect. It is a fantastic book! The development of her characters and the world building were great! I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Edited to add that now I have the Audible version and it is so well done. The narrator did an excellent job. He has a pleasant voice to listen to and keeps your attention.

Normally I pass on sci-fi books as they are usually full of destroying another world and species. That being said,I am glad that I read this book.
It grabs you from the first page and keeps your interest throughout. I was a bit surprised when religion showed up in the storyline, but thank goodness it wasn't shoved down my throat. It did fit into the storyline perfectly.
I can't wait to read the next book.

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. It is written in the style of a chapter giving the thoughts and views of one character. The beginning sets the mood for the rest of the book - everything is not as it appears. The characters are well rounded and do develop as the story develops. The faith-theme is handled with extreme care and I was impressed. Even though this book can be read on its own; the ending is such that you want to read the follow-on.

A Compelling Read

I’m very picky about sci fi, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The other-worldly setting was fascinating and well described, the suspense kept up all the way through, and the romance was exceptionally well done. A good book for sci fi lovers and casual readers of the genre alike. And if you’re a sucker for romance, this book is for you. Can’t wait to read book two.

It was a good story, but the ePub version needs a lot of formatting help.

Chapters start one line after the end of the previous chapter, wherever that might be on the page. Sentences at the end of paragraphs will be incomplete, then continued in the next paragraph. You had to do the work to pull the document together. It's not nice to force the reader to pull the authors thoughts together into a coherent story.

Great read

Loved this book. The characters were fully developed. I wanted them to succeed. It was clean the adults spoke like adults...they used words in conversation, no slang, or profanity. Very refreshing. It did seem rushed in the end. I am going to read the next in the series.

Excellent sci-fi!

The Paradise Protocol is well written with two protagonists that I quickly became invested in. There is a great deal of danger accompanying the underlying mysteries. I was delighted with the conclusion of this episode. Now, I’m off to get book 2 , enjoy!

What an unexpected thriller!

To be honest, when I started reading this book, it had been sitting in my library for so long that I really didn't know anything about the story or the genre. I thought the title was intriguing, and the cover design drew me in.

If "Christian sci-fi romance" isn't it's own sub-genre yet, it should be....with this at the top of the list! I loved the character development and the world building. It was perfectly balanced between the science of living in primitive conditions on an alien planet and the slowly-building chemistry between Aric and Sean. The spirituality wasn't at all forced; it naturally flowed with the storyline and the characters, and it's just beautifully done'

While it does have a happy ending, the next book in the series picks up very close to the end of this book -based on the included teaser from the beginning of the next book - leading me to believe there is a larger story arc being developed.

Going now to make a space in my kindle unlimited so I can find out what happens next!

The Paradise Protocol by Anna Zogg is a science fiction novel with a strong romantic theme. There is also an element of suspense. While I liked this book I would have liked a stronger plot. There is plenty of action, many strange creatures, and the vegetation is certainly not terrestrial. I will be reading the second novel to see if some of my questions are answered.

From Anna Zogg's webpage:
THE PARADISE PROTOCOL

Submit to the director...
or forfeit your life!
Alone on a primitive planet light-years from Earth, bio-scientist Aric Lindquist believes she has been abandoned by SARC, the sponsor of her research assignment. In the five months since her assistant disappeared, she has struggled to survive Empusa III’s beautiful but hostile environment. Is SARC punishing her because she accused them of breaking protocol in not safeguarding the indigenous humanoids? After a new assistant finally arrives, Aric’s suspicions escalate.
When Sean Reese agreed to this mission, he expected to find a dangerous and possibly demented woman. Carrying out his orders would have been easy. But Aric is unlike anything he expected. Sean might find a way to save her life if she submits to the powerful director of SARC.
If she won’t, the director will use any means to silence them both...including murder.

About Anna from her web page:
What do you get when you cross an army brat, a police record, and an opera singer? Anna, of course! She’s been surrounded by the military (father, three siblings, husband and son), she was an exchange student in Denmark (where police records are mandatory) and she trained as a vocal major in college. With such a diverse background, she couldn’t help but become a writer.
After traveling the globe, she and her husband settled in Utah--a place they once swore they’d never live. Now they love it. With the towering mountains, nearby Great Salt Lake, high desert temperatures--she couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
Well, maybe...

Once again I have been pleasantly surprised by an author who is new to me. I always said I wasn’t interested in Sci-Fi books, movies, etc. To show how uneducated I am with this genre, I cannot recall ever watching even one complete Star Wars movie. However, I was given an opportunity to read this book and was caught up in the story from the beginning. The primary setting is a faraway planet that was previously unknown and the story occurs at a future date. Aric Lindquist is a bio-scientist who has lived on the planet for ten years learning all she can about it and its inhabitants. An operative has been sent from Earth to eliminate her for some unknown reason. The author employs quite an imagination describing the plants, animals, and the humanoids who live there. While the story is science fiction, it was charged with suspense and intrigue with the main characters being humans from Earth. Romance and faith played an integral part in the story as well. I enjoyed the book and recommend it.

Thoroughly enjoyable! I loved it.

I couldn't put the book down once I started it. Ms Zogg has created a world that is easy to picture from her descriptions, and the characters and plot just drew me right in - reminded me of why I have always enjoyed "good" science fiction. And the fact that it is a clean tale, without graphic sex and foul language was an added bonus! I definitely look forward to reading more by Ms Zogg!

This book is what Avatar should have been. So turn on the soundtrack and start reading. The Paradise Protocol follows the same concept of a beautiful exotic world with an intelligent, human-like species. But the characters are three-dimensional and the plot isn't boring. At all. Seriously, I couldn't put this book down. The characters just had too many secrets. And the world building was fantastic.

Content warnings: This is an adult book, so be aware of that. Some scenes had a little too much description for my comfort, but these parts are easy to skip over. However (**spoilers ahead**), the themes of sexual harassment and rape are prominent throughout the book. It is vital to one character's backstory and really to the entire plot of the book. In my opinion, this is handled tastefully, but some might be bothered by it.
