I never would have thought I’d read a 735 page book of poetry.

To keep myself from being too daunted along the way, I reminded myself that this anthology is nothing special: it’s just the standard book of verse. Unless, perhaps, it is THE standard to which all collections of poetry should be measured. In which case, I should read it to know the very best.

I’ve been reading a bit more than four pages aloud nearly every day since June. What a transformation has overcome me. I appreciate poetry much more now, and I am a better reader because of this book.

Thanks to The Literary Life Podcast Reading Challenge for getting me to read something, well, challenging!
