What do you do when the search for truth only leads to more questions?
Detective Jarrod Harmon has a lot of dead bodies and very few leads that make any kind of sense. Finding out who is using the city's homeless population to test a deadly drug becomes even more complicated when the evidence fails to add up and his feelings for the assistant director of the local homeless shelter begin to get in the way. Carrie Hastings knows she has her work cut out for her if she’s going to keep her shelter’s new clinic open. With the police looking at one of her physicians as the prime suspect in the deaths of several homeless people, she’ll need to keep her wits about her if she’s going to save the clinic. Sadly, her wits seem to fly out the window when a certain detective comes asking tough questions. In a case where there are more questions than answers, Jarrod and Carrie will have to race against the clock to find out who’s behind such a ruthless crime. All the heart-stopping suspense and heartwarming romance readers of Lori Ryan have come to expect! Cut and Run is the second of three new Sutton Capital Intrigue novels from NY Times Bestselling Author, Lori Ryan. Romantic suspense at its best.

This is a very good romantic suspense story. I love this type of story because there is a good blend of both here. The suspenseful story is as much a part of this as is the romantic angle that may or may not go anywhere. Even though this is the 9th book in the series, it can be read as a standalone, but the other books do tie in to one another. This is the first one I have read, and I did not find it difficult to understand or find parts that confused me. It has a good closing with a lead-in for the next book. I enjoyed this a lot and am going to go back and read the rest of the series.
Part of Sutton Capital Intrigue Boxset Fairly standard romantic suspense. Book 2 in the boxset continues the plot from the previous book but with the focus on two different MCs.
Jarrod is the lead detective investigating the deaths of several homeless men who were unknowingly part of an unofficial drug trial. Carrie is the assistant director of the homeless shelter where the men were treated.
Though Carrie is completely innocent of any wrongdoing and is devastated at the thought of anyone under her protection being targeted, she is still a person of interest in the case, meaning any attraction felt between her and Jarrod would be potentially unethical and could risk the investigation.
The plot was good and the story flowed well. The romance was secondary and a little insta-lusty, but still felt sincere.
Book 9 of the Sutton Capital Series..... Police detective Jarrod Harmond has the tough job of finding out who is using an unapproved drug trial on the homeless and ending up with dead bodies. While investigating the local clinic he meets the beautiful Carrie Hastings. Carrie, who is also a suspect at the moment, is creeping into Jarrod"s thought like no one else has ever. Another thrilling romantic suspense addition to the Sutton series. Keeps you guessing til the very end which leads me to believe there is more to come, but it wasn't a cliffhanger.
If you really like cops or NCIS this is the book for you! This book had some romance but it had more investigations!! It was really good. It kept you on your toes.
In Cut and Run by Lori Ryan, Carrie is the assistant director of a homeless shelter. Despite her wealthy background and rich upbringing, this job is a very much a part of Carrie and fulfills her. She cares about these people. After the death of a Dr. who worked at the shelter and the unexplained deaths of some homeless people who visited the shelter, Carrie fears the shelter may be in danger of losing funding or even shutting down. Jarrod is one of the detectives investigating the Doctors death and possible ties it might have to the deaths of the homeless people. From the moment he lays eyes on Carrie in the clinic, he feels something much more personal for her...and as they spend more time together trying to find answers, it is obvious the attraction is mutual. Those feelings conflict with the job Jarrod is trying to do, but try as he does, they are impossible to ignore. Especially when the closer they get to the truth, Carrie is in danger too. More questions arise as the plot intensifies, and Jarrod might find he can't ignore his heart...but is it too late?
I really enjoyed Cut and Run. I really like the way Lori Ryan highlights a side of society that is all too often ignored - the homeless. She really brought them to life, and through Lori Ryan's writing and Carrie's eyes, showed that they are very human. They all have a unique story, people still care about them, they have stories and families, but for each of them this is the way they are surviving. Truly they are a big part of what this story is all about. I really liked Carrie. She has a big heart, she cares, and she is doing something that she finds very fulfilling with her life. I liked Jarrod also. I could feel the inner conflict he felt between his personal and professional life, trying to find that straight line to walk. Together, even though they are from such different backgrounds, they seem like they will fit if given the chance. Carrie and Jarrod are both mature and there was no angst which made for strong main characters. I liked how their families tied in to the plot in subtle ways, and everything felt real.
The suspenseful plot was very intriguing and kept me guessing throughout the book. The suspense, romance, life and characters all blend well to make Cut and Run a fast paced, exciting read.
Cut and Run is part of the Sutton Capital series and for the most part can be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading the book prior to this (Cutthroat) first to get a strong grasp of the plot for Cut and Run. There are some characters that carry over and impact th plot, but if you haven't read about the previously it still works!
Lori Ryan concludes Cut and Run just right to tie up some ends, but leaves a little dangle that can be carried on in another book. I'd recommend Cut and Run to any romantic suspense reader.
Jarrod, a detective, and Carrie, assistant director for a homeless shelter, met as Jarrod was investigating suspicious deaths concerning people involved with her shelter, and the connected clinic.
As the case is still ongoing, their paths cross fairly frequently. Both felt an immediate attraction upon first meeting, though neither have acted on it in the weeks since.
Jarrod knows he needs to keep a personal distance between them, not only due to the rules forbidding a relationship between anyone connected to a case, but he's also worried that their vast differences in backgrounds will eventually impact any chance they have.
Unfortunately, more victims are soon discovered, and eventually, Carrie's history with two of the potential suspects causes Jarrod to realize he can no longer assume certain people are innocent, not even the woman he's falling for.
What happens when Jarrod and Carrie succumb to their desire? Will Jarrod push her away, claiming he made a mistake? Will Carrie give Jarrod a second chance? Can Jarrod save Carrie when she's taken by the one responsible for everything? What will Jarrod do when it seems as if Carrie's doesn't remember him? Have Jarrod and Carrie lost their chance at a HEA? Or will their love for one another conquer all obstacles?
One-click now and follow along as two people, though they meet under sad circumstances, discover a love both had always craved. I recommend reading this series in order, but at the least, please read Cutthroat, book eight, prior to this one, as the situation in that story is fully resolved in this one.
This is another great addition to the Sutton Capital series. I suppose it could be read as a stand alone as this romance is mostly self contained but the suspense element begins in the previous book Cutthroat so I would highly recommend starting there. Jarrod and Carrie are really opposites attract. They have very different backgrounds and outlooks but they have great chemistry and can't seem to fight their attraction. They do try though, their timing is terrible. People from the shelter Carrie oversees are dying and Jarrod is investigating, he has no business getting involved with a woman who at best is a witness but who also has ties to all his suspects. These two grow close through out the book but fight it hard as it could compromise the investigation into the deaths. When they do come together it's passionate and a little overwhelming. This is a great story, though it might have a bit more suspense than romance compared to some of the other books but I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the conclusion Cut to the Chase coming out soon. I received an ARC of this book from the author, all views expressed here are my own.
Carrie Hastings is the Assistant Director of the homeless shelter where people were dying left and right. She has worked so hard to help the people who needed it the most and now this. She just knew the Center would be shut down when Detective Jarrod Harmon, along with his partner, Cal show up asking questions about these deaths. The deaths now appear to be murder. When they discover these people dying are related to a drug they were taking through a drug trial they have more questions than answers.
This author writes such great romance stores with a bit of a “who dunit” added in for good measure. This story has a really good plot, the characters are well developed, there is plenty of suspense to keep you turning the pages and of course a hot love story thrown in to make your heart beat little faster. Jarrod and Carrie were written in a manner I rooted for them to get their HEA. Their characters were strong and well balanced. Thoroughly enjoyed this new one by Lori Ryan. Can’t wait for the next one.
A fantastic romantic suspense you don't want to miss. This is the 9th book in the series and truly a continuation of a story that begins in Cutthroat: Sutton Capital Series Book 8. The author does an amazing job of filling in the backstory so you don't have to have read the prior books to get the whole story. In this one we follow the investigation of the clinic involved in an illegal drug trial. Detective Jarrod Harmon is determined to get to the bottom of the situation and if that means spending more time with Carrie Hastings, the clinics director, even better!! As these two work together to unravel the mystery surrounding the clinic a wonderful relationship begins to form. This could be bad for the investigation but Jarrod's feelings are tested when Carrie is life is in danger.
This is one for the must read list. I highly recommend it.
CUT and RUN by Lori Ryan is another great book in the Sutton Capital series. It is an intrigueing story that you can't put down. Cut and Run continues the story from Cutthroat, Book 8. It is about homeless people that have died & the police trying to figure out why & if there is a connection to the neighborhood clinic. Jarrod, a detective, along with his partner Cal, search for the truth to what has happened the homeless people that have died. Carrie is the director of the clinic. The first time Jarrod & Carrie meet, they are instantly attracted to each other. With the investigation going on, Jarrod is trying to stay professional about his feelings, but being around Carrie is making harder every time they see each other. The story will keeps you guessing till the very end. It is very well written. A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!!
How exciting. Seeing Jarrod from Legal Ease find his HEA, and meeting Carrie. Finding themselves involved in a mystery, murder, and maybe in. Not seeing what or how these murders happen in New Havens homeless community, and then seeing the mental instability of a father's grief turn into murder.Seeing almost everyone back from the original Sutton Capital start up series, was so good. I really enjoyed reading the cloak and dagger mystery story. I loved the HEA. Waiting for the next book.Very Anxious to read. Love Lori's stories. Maybe just a bit more of the old gang, update on everyone, kids, babies, marriages, maybe a novella, just for that (or more?) Thank you for keeping Sutton Capital in our lives
Thank you to Lori Ryan for an early copy for my enjoyment. I love the Sutton Capitol books. You get crime, mystery and romance wrapped in one package. Each book is a complete romance but the series and crimes build with each book. In Cut and Run Carrie and Jarrod have forbidden budding feelings for each other. Carrie is a possible suspect in the mystery of the dying homeless. This gives a new tension to the story line as they have feelings they can't explore. Lots of things happen to keep you turning the page to see what will happen next. Can't wait for the next book!
Another great read by this wonderful author. I was late finding this author but when I did I feel in lov with her books. Her stories always engage me from the start to the finish. Was so glad to see more of Jarrod after he made his appearance in Cutthroat. If you haven't read this series no worries you can still enjoy this book
HEAVY focus on the mystery, homelessness and drug trials, secondary characters etc. Minimal romance- official interviews, a couple dances at a fundraiser, a quickie out of nowhere and BOOM "love."
