***4,5 "Are you lost???" stars***

This was the first book that I've read by J. Nathan and it was such a wonderful surprise!!!
I enjoyed every single moment in it and this journey was such a lovely experience...

To be totally honest with you, I'm a sucker for this kind of stories...
College setting, football player, girl with secrets??? Yes, please!!!!
Add to that a hate to love story, much bickering who made you laugh and much angst because of a secret that could blow up everything... or not!!!

After two years isolated, Finlay is joying the University of Alabama living her brother's dream...
Finlay never got over the death of her twin, especially since their relationship at the end was very tense... so she was having lots of regrets. about the way she was treating back then.

Now, Finlay is trying to move forward but it's so hard to do it...
Thanks to the coach, she is having a spot on the football team, but that means that she has to be close to Caden Brooks, a man that she is hating with all her heart....

Caden Brooks is a very popular guy around the campus.... He is the star quarterback, he has many fans, a loving girlfriend, many friends and a bright future to the pros...

So, his life is in a very good place, but then Finlay is stepping into it and his whole world is turning upside down...
Even though she is giving him shit all the damn time, he can't stay away from her...

Finlay and Caden are starting with the wrong foot but as the time is passing by, they are coming closer and closer to each other...

Will Finlay forget why she hated Caden that much???
Will Caden do something that he had sworn that he will never do???
There is a future about those two when Finlay's secret will be revealed???

“Yeah. I totally appreciate you being a gentleman and all, but maybe next time, give me some warning first.”
I smiled, leaning down and pressing my lips to her forehead. “Next time, I won’t be a gentleman.”

I loved both Finlay and Caden....
Their encounters were so fierce and absolutely delightful...

I liked how they manage to soothe each other's soul...

“If I could take it all back, I would. I don’t want to be the guy who hurts you, Finlay. I want to be the one who lifts you up. The one you want when you’re sad and need comfort. The one you want when you’re happy and need to share it with someone. I don’t want to be the one who makes you sad. It’s the last thing I want to do.”

Caden was such a wonderful guy.... He seemed like the usual jock type but he was anything but that...

Okay, he was very cocky, but damn, that was so hot in him!!!!
But he had more things hidden inside of him...
I liked very much how he got closer to Finlay and how stable was in his beliefs...

But, damn, in a certain matter, i didn't like how easily he was making assumptions about Finlay and how easily he convicted her....

“Are you lost?” I asked.
A sweet, almost nervous, smile played across her face. “I don’t think so.”
“Maybe I wasn’t clear. Are you lost without me?”
“Your ego knows no limits, does it?”
“Nope.”

Finlay was so lonely and heartbroken and my heart was breaking for her and poor Cole....

She and her brother had a unique bond and it was inevitable to feel like she did at the end... She was just a little bit unfair toward Cole and later... Caden.
She had this hatred toward Caden, but when she was in his presence her heart was saying her other things than her mind and she didn't know what to do....

I also liked very much how honest she were and that she wasn't holding back her tongue, especially toward Caden!!!! It was so funny to watch!!!

“I like your honesty.”
“Even when it’s directed at you?”
“Especially when it’s directed at me.”

Is it wrong that I'm very curious about Forester???
And that i would love to learn more about Cole??? Something that is impossible!!!!

I liked very much Finlay's roomate... She was such a sweet girl!!!
And i hated very much Caden's girlfriend!!! She was from those kind of girls that can deceive you!!!
I also loved the Thachers very much!!!!
And i'm not sure how i felt about Grady.... Yep, he was such a prick most of the time, but he intrigued me in a strange way....

Fierce, funny and gorgeously written, J. Nathan expertly balances this sweet and sexy story about loss, love and finding happiness with the perfect amount of touching and heartfelt emotion.

Two years ago, Finlay Thatcher lost her other half, her best friend, her twin brother. Having Cole die thinking she hated him when in reality she was so proud and loved him has left her absolutely sorrowful until Alabama’s football coach practically drags her to work for her brother’s team giving her the opportunity to forge ahead. Getting past the guilt should be Finlay’s biggest difficulty, but then she meets Bama’s star quarterback who took her brother’s position.

Caden Brooks’ is living the college dream. He has droves of fans, a devoted girlfriend and a starting position in the team’s football team, nothing could possible trouble him, except for the team’s spitfire water girl who inexplicably hated him on sight but who he can’t seem to stay away from. Especially since they see each other at practice, share a class and bus rides, and they keep bumping into each other in the middle of the night due to their insomnia. Loving a challenge Canden sets out to break down her walls, but will he like the secret she has hidden behind them?

I read this in one sitting, I couldn’t put it this book down! The pace and flow felt effortless. Caden and Finlay’s push/pull, love/hate relationship kept me hooked from start to finish. They had great banter and chemistry and a shared past that brought tears to my eyes.

I felt so much for Finlay. First living under her brother’s shadow and then living with so much guilt over her attitude towards him. Yet she’s also strong and determined to pick up the pieces of her life. I was so happy she had an awesome roommate who had her back and that Canden sparked her witty personality. I was also delighted with her atypical water girl job.

Initially Canden may seem like the epitome of the American college quarterback, hot, cocky, with pro-football prospects and a gorgeous girl hanging from his arm. Even without the heart-breaking filter Finlay saw him through I could probably hate him too. But once you take off the hate glasses and start to get to know the man, there’s so much more to him. He’s not just charming to a fault, he loves his mother, is loyal and thoughtful. And for those of you keeping track, he hates dishonesty so there’s no cheating.

Canden and Finlay get off to a rocky start but their relationship is hooking and develops in a sweet, sassy and heartfelt way that made me laugh, smile and wipe away tears.

For Finlay is a standalone, New Adult Romance. Told from both points of view with a happy ending.

AN ANGSTest TO GOODNESS, FUN READ

I have two weaknesses! A love a man in uniform and a man who plays and achieves at a high level in sports. This man happens to wear a college football uniform. Add to the mix he is a conceited jerk and needs to be knocked down a peg or two by a strong willed woman, who refuses to take what he is shoveling out, made this one a lively read.

I devoured this in nearly one sitting as it was filled with angst, simmering hostility, lust, secrets, humor, a push/pull relationship, and an intriguing storyline. The connection I had with the main characters was immediate and heartfelt. This was my first J. Nathan read and it won't be my last.

Caden Brooks is the epitome of the egotistical jock, who has no difficulty hooking up with the opposite sex . He has the looks, the body and the confidence to know they will melt at his feet by just giving them his sexy wink and nod. Well, that is until he meets Finlay Thatcher, a woman who loathes him for reasons he cannot, for the life of him, understand. He doesn't like it, and really wants to change her mind about him. It's a tricky proposition, considering he is in a relationship, and never has, nor ever will, become a guy who cheats.

Finlay Thatcher is trying her best to honor the memory of her twin brother. It was Cole's, dream to play football at the college level and hopefully make it to the pros. Unfortunately, that dream was never realized as his life was taken way too soon.

Two years later, the shame and anguish over her last conversation with Cole still haunts Finlay, and continues to gnaw at her soul. When the coach of the Alabama football team offers her the opportunity to be on the sidelines of every practice and every game, she jumps at the chance, hoping to put the pieces of her heart and life back together again. But there is the matter of Caden Brooks. He is the team's super star and she hates him!

This was an enjoyable NA read. It was heart rendering, witty, angsty and fast paced. This would have been more like a five star rating for me if Finlay wouldn't have fallen under Caden's spell quite so soon. I think this book would need to be longer length in order for that to happen, but it would have given me more satisfaction! And once they did get together, I didn't want this story to end!

The characters are nearly twenty-one years old, for those who may be wondering and aren't hip to reading about the sex lives of teenagers ;)

If there's one trope that I'm a huge sucker for, it's enemies to lovers. And my biggest weakness in story matter is the book of a college football player. So throw these two this together and what do you get? For Finlay. Also known as the kryptonite of Shannon Moore. <3 And man oh man, did this ever bring me to my knees!

He kissed me hard then pulled back, just gazing down at me with the same soft look I was getting used to from him. The one that held possibilities. The one that made me feel special. The one I’d never imagined would ever be directed at me. “Stay tonight. And the next night. And the night after that.”

Immediately, the reader is graced with some heavy disdain between the two main characters - Caden and Finlay. Caden is a junior and the starting quarterback for Alabama State and Finlay is the water girl on the team. I like that it's not just given away immediately as to why these two don't get along. I loved their bickering but even when they didn't like each other, you could still feel a pull.

"If love was a strong emotion, hate was stronger. And I was good at hating. I’d hated Caden for two years. It came easily."

Interestingly enough as well, Finlay is like a walking talking football encyclopedia; a fanatic. For her entire life she has run plays, watched practices and games, helped Cole to train and become better, so you can bet that she knows what she's talking about! I loved how she wasn't afraid to tell Caden what she was really thinking, especially if it was about football. These moments did nothing but add to my own curiosity of what/when things would happen between these two.

Now, speaking of Cole... My heart absolutely broke for Finlay. For the amount of guilt that she was carrying around and couldn't let go of. For her other half who was no longer there.
I can't imagine what it would feel like other than pure devastation. Cole actually still plays a big part in this novel which I enjoyed. Between flashbacks and characters speaking of their memories, you could tell he was still a part of their lives, not just forgotten.

“You’re still a kid,” I teased.
“Says the eighteen-year-old.”
My eyes stayed on the screen as I clicked on the term Conditioned Response. The virtual card flipped to reveal the definition. “I’m not eighteen.”
“Oh, sorry,” he mocked. “Nineteen.”
I shook my head, unprepared for where the conversation could take us. “I’ll be twenty-one in January.”
“Aren’t you a freshman?”
I nodded, glancing over at him. “I took a couple years off.”
His eyes widened in amusement. “To find yourself?”
Hmph. “Guess so.”
“Did you find her?”
A rush of sadness flooded my body. “I’m not sure yet.”

These two were excellent at challenging each other between pranks, quick quips and playful banter. I always not only felt but believed the chemistry between them and from the first few interactions, felt the pull. Caden and Finlay were like magnets, always seeking out the other, even when they tried to stay away. It was not only a lot of fun to read about but I liked the sweeter moments too. The little early morning run ins, for example, were perfect with both the sweet and saucy moments. At times even throw in a dash of angst and I was a happy, happy camper!

“I promise you. This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. But I think I should probably just hold you tonight.”
I watched the disbelief coast over her face. “Hold me?”
I bit down on my bottom lip to stop myself from taking back my words.
She blinked. “You’re serious?”
I nodded, feeling my resolve waning. “Can I do that? Can I just hold you tonight?”
Her eyes held a mix of amazement and disappointment. And after a long torturous pause, she nodded. “Yeah. I’d like that.”

Yes, this book has a conflict that does deal with a misunderstanding (I know a lot of people hate that!) but I'm actually a big fan of how it was handled. There was a lot of tension and anger, for one, but it wasn't one sided! Each character had their reasons for their emotions and actions. I could understand Caden's side, but I loved how Finlay handled it. My first thought when encountering the conflict was that the characters were jumping to conclusions and it was kind of ridiculous but then when I stepped back, I understood. I get why Caden thought what he did and I get why Finlay reacted how she did. I appreciated both of their stances but love how Finlay stayed strong throughout. And when the misunderstanding is found out? When the character figured out what they thought was wrong? Lord heavens! You could feel everything. The guilt, anguish, need for forgiveness, all of it.

"The sad look in his eyes, and the emptiness I felt keeping him at arm’s length, tugged at my heartstrings, waning my resolve. But a girl had to protect her heart. And Caden Brooks had the ability to break it twice."

There's one special little moment when Finlay is on the football field by herself and all I'm going to say about it is that I was in tears. This scene got really emotional and felt really special, not only for Finlay and her potential relationship with Caden but for her guilt ridden regrets about how her relationship was left with Cole. This was the first stage of healing for her.

Secondary characters can always help make or break a read for me so I loved the friendships of Sabrina and Forester. They were loyal and helpful when needed but could also add a comedic element at other times. I can't wait to read Forester's book next!

“She lied.”
His pretty boy face twisted in disbelief. “So what? I lie to you all the time.”
My head reeled back. “You do?”
He nodded. “When you ask me where I’ve been.”
“Why?”
“Because I can.

The only reason why I rated this as 4.5 stars instead of 5 is because I wish some of the scenes could've been extended, had a little more detail, pulled a little more dialogue. I really liked these two characters together but then wanted to be sure the reader is always getting the full essence of their relationship and feelings.

Can I also quickly mention that ending? Because oh my GOSH that was so sweet! I maybe sort of kind of had a tear or two. Maybe. But it could've also been a dust bunny, so I guess we'll never know. I loved Finlay, I loved Caden, I love Sabrina and Coach and the entire team. Even Grady was okay for a few moments!

“I didn’t do it for Cole. I did it for you. I did it for Finlay.”

The writing and flow just felt so easy. It was easy to read and so easy to just become immersed in this book. I read it in one sitting! Completely addictive. I've since checked our Goodreads and decided that I need to read this author's other books, so I'll be getting on that right about... Now. ;)

Ultimately I think For Finlay carries a heavier theme which is pretty important to remember. Time is a precious commodity that we take for granted. You need to grasp it and hold on to those fleeting moments. Those memories, moments and people that you don't want to let go of. People will come and go from our lives and while there's not always a reason for it, sometimes there can be a silver lining. An unexpected good that can come out of the bad. So keep your chin up and keep going, because tomorrow is another day that you get to live, so hold on tight and don't let go.

“I’ve hated you and loved you, both just as strongly. Loving you has definitely been easier.”

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely.
Would I buy a copy for myself? Oh I don't know (sarcasm), but there's one sitting in my Amazon cart do I should probably just press order really quick. <3

Finlay Thatcher was used to living in her twin brothers shadow since he was the big football star that everyone wanted to know. She used to hate it and started to resent him for all his fame in their town, but after his death she's lost without him. Two years later she's finally ready to move on, even if it's to live her brothers dream of football.

Working for the Alabama college football team was never where she saw her future going, but it brings her closer to her brothers spirit so she's not going to give up. Even if it means being around Caden Brooks, a man she hates with a passion. Or she thought she did because now that hateful passion is turning into a much more sexual passion for the star quarterback.

I actually almost passed on this book because I haven't been in the mood for NA recently, but after a few of my books didn't go too well for me I decided I needed a change. I'm really happy that I finally picked this one up because I ended up enjoying the hell out of these characters. I can't say that the plot was very unique but there were certain things that the author handled in ways I haven't seen in NA before and it kept this book interesting.

Both Finlay and Caden were good characters and I liked reading about them putting their differences aside to be with one another. Finlay has a long standing hatred of Caden for reasons she found inexcusable. But watching her get to know him and realize he wasn't the bad guy she made him out to be was fun and I loved seeing them grow from enemies to more.

The ending was a little tough for me and there seemed to be too much drama thrown into the mix all at one time. Up until the last end of the story there wasn't much angsty drama and I would have been fine with some, but what it all seemed like one dimensional angst that wasn't explained well so I didn't understand the significance of some of the scenes thrown into the book.

Overall, if you're a fan of NA, sports, or just want to read a fun story of two people discovering the good in each other, then read this book. This is my first read from J. Nathan but it won't be my last and I hope there will be more to come from the secondary characters featured in this book.

3 i think so stars

Eh, okay. I'm going to get straight up brutally honest on this one.

For starters, very weirdly the thought of a twin brother dying kind of disturbed me. No, I don't have a twin brother, so I was really freaked out when it unsettled me. And no, he does not die gruesomely (he has a heart-attack while on field). And also, no, death does not disturb me. I like reading that shit. So if you know me, you know that me getting unsettled by a book is a good thing for the book, it means that the writer has done something right. Kudos to Nathan for that.

So now you are wondering why I rated this book a 3 star. That's not a bad thing people. It just wasn't a 4 star book for me, and that is the sole reason. This book wasn't a bad one, but it wasn't a great one either. It was just a good one.

So let's talk about the book-

Finlay had a lot of guilt over the fact that she could never mend her relationship with the twin brother she loved so much before he died, and basically hates Caden because he had taken Cole (her twin's) place as the quarterback. Also because he had laughed in Cole's funeral.

Yeah that would make me hate someone too.

Now to Caden- some might say that he was good, but I just found him kind of childish for a lack of better word. His attraction to Finlay comes completely out of left field for me. It was like they spent some time together, and he STILL kept saying that girls would do anything to get him, and then they were kissing and were in love and shit.

Mind you he just dumps his girlfriend because Finlay is THE one.

Okay, I'm making this sound really bad.

Caden wasn't that bad, but he was just not swoon-worthy. Does that make sense?

I wasn't really impressed by him until the end. Plus the whole misunderstanding kind of killed my entire mood. I like stories with adult characters who act adult in situations that require an adult behavior.

If only the entire conversation went like this—
Caden- Who was Cole Thatcher to you, lovely girl o' mine?
Finlay- Why do you ask monsieur?
Caden- I found his jersey and your pics in your room, senorita.
Finlay- Oh my! He was my twin brother who died two years ago. I have those because I loved him and I miss him very much. (throws herself on the bed, and cries loudly and like an 80's diva)
Caden- Oh ma belle! I'm so sorry. Come 'ere! Come 'ere! Let me make it all better with my extremely manly arms and my magical dick.
*kisskisskiss*

(BTW, they are not French, Spanish, and whatever the fuck language I used to depict them here)

Do you SEE how uncomplicated that one question could've made the entire situation? Ugh I hate such stupid misunderstandings. Me thinks Finlay ought to kick Caden where the sun don't shine for being a righteous asshole.
But that aside, I really liked Cole more than the living characters at least. He was a perfect brother- sweet, caring, and understanding. That letter was very heart-touching.

This book was saved by the ending because that was really good. So good that it redeemed all the earlier faults.

Genre: New Adult Sports Romance
Sensuality: R
Ho-meter: H = manho, h = dunno

I wasn't expecting much from this selfpub so I was pleasantly surprised.
Likable and strong H/h.
Good mix of NA-style angst and banter so it wasn't relentless sturm-n-drang.
I liked it enough that I am interested in reading the author's other bks and I didnt even deduct a half star for the lack of editing as I normally would.

4.5 Fabulous stars!

‘But living in the shadow of someone else was the worst kind of fate. And for my own sanity, I put an end to it.’

We were in the mood for a sports romance and they don’t come much better than For Finlay. This felt like a classic old school NA romance with a well written football theme. J Nathan is a new to us Author and we fell in love with her story and characters. A fabulous frenemies to lovers’ story that’ll burrow deep in your heart. Whilst incredibly sad at times it’s also very sweet, passionate and funny.

“Never be afraid to tell people what you’re really thinking. It’s one of the most refreshing things about you.”

The flow of this story felt so natural and believable. We really got to know the characters, their stumbling blocks, insecurities and inner fights. There were times we had tears in our eyes and others were our hearts melted. Such a beautiful story that for some reason sparked a sentimentality in our hearts. A fabulous sports romance that did exactly what it set out to be! Click here for full review at TBB

After:
🤷‍♀️Ended up liking her more.
🤷‍♀️She’s still wary but he’s good for her.
🤷‍♀️Misunderstandings/lack of communication/assumptions abound; so typical of this genre.

Before:
This is why I get spoilers first.
Someone would've told me that the h is a twit who allows other twits to treat her like the twit she is. I would've known that the twit accepts verbal abuse from the other twits but doesn't accept the help or kind gestures from the H.
I'm only 2 chapters in and I cant stand her thoughts or words.
What an unpleasant moron.
Had I read the sample first I'd have known not to touch this, but it was free and I felt like an "enemies to lovers college New Adult book with a h and the star QB" which is exactly the picture the blurb paints. I enjoy the odd sullen, moody and broken h but this one's inner dialogue is just naaaasty.
I'm still reading cos I hope he treats her like crap and cheats on her and all the other bad boy stuff we so much love to hate. That'll show her nasty arse.

Sincerely I have mixed feelings regarding her role in team I do not see as and healthy choice as a mother and a sister that has felt big loss I wouldn’t let her do it too painful and not her role to inherit.

For Finlay by J. Nathan is the first book in the For You series. A new-to-me author once again, Ms. Nathan takes readers through the story of Alabama's star quarterback, 21 year old Caden Brooks as the hero and 20 year old Finlay Grace Thatcher who enrolls in the same college and takes up the opportunity to work for Alabama's football coach in order to live the dream of her deceased twin.

Finlay is a guilt-ridden soul, with her brother Cole having died of an undiagnosed heart condition. Their relationship had been fractious at best, the major reason behind her self-condemnation and the penance she tries to pay. Caden is her number one enemy from the start, the memory of Caden at Cole's funeral having lit the flame of "hatred" towards him. It also does not help that Caden seems to have it all; looks, fame, and all the women he could possibly ever want.

Finlay had always walked in the shadow of her overly famous twin brother, which she had resented. Life had been difficult for her because of the fact, with people trying to get close to her or being nice to her just to get to her brother. Starting fresh, away from her small town, where no one really knows her is supposed to be her fresh start. However, with Caden everywhere she turns, it becomes harder to hate and easier to give in to the intrigue that he rouses.

For Caden, his life is all about football. He does not understand why Finlay is so cold towards him at first, going so far as to ignore his very existence, when Caden finds it hard to reciprocate the attitude towards Finlay.

When these two finally end up together, it seems like a natural progression of their relationship, from being enemies, at least from Finlay's perspective, to being two people who cannot get enough of each other. Trust is the hardest commodity to come by, especially for Caden who is marked by the scars from his childhood, and that proves to be the test that Caden and Finlay needs to pass in order to truly embrace a future together.

I would not say that I loved this story, but rather liked it for the most part, the bits and pieces that kept it going. I did understand Finlay's perspective of things, especially when viewed through the lens of self-recrimination that is part and parcel of who she is since the death of her twin. Sometimes there is no logic nor rhyme to how we feel about a person, and I guess that was true to some point when it came to Finlay's reaction towards Caden.

I guess the reason I did not end up falling in love with the characters nor the story as it developed was that there was some crucial element that was missing, which I cannot really put my finger on. Perhaps somewhere down the line, I will pick up another story from the author to give it a go.

Recommended for fans of new adult contemporary romances that are sports themed.

Final Verdict: For Finlay by J. Nathan is the story of Finlay's survivor's guilt preventing her from embracing and living her life to the fullest and how her arch-nemesis changes all of that.

Rating = 3/5

I am still reeling from finishing this book. One thing I'm definitely a sucker for are when characters go from hating each other to falling in love. I didn't know what to expect when i jumped into this book because it is my first J.Nathan book. But i was completely blown away. The story was beautiful and captivating, it made me sad but it was definitely a good read.

2.5* This is definitely in the YA/NA category, the way both MC's behave never lets you forget that. The immaturity displayed by the behavior can only be put down to youth, though by generalising I am likely doing a disservice to some. So in that context, its not cringe worthy. The fact that I didn't skim even a small part of this book, even when it felt somewhat contrived, means there was enough going on to hold my interest.

The romance plays out as expected with the resident evil ow, though to be fair she was his girl for at least a 1/3 of the book. The H definitely touches the line of emotional cheating, in his feelings for the h, whilst in a relationship with the ow though I guess its debatable on how hard a line you draw. Still he had enough about him to understand about boundaries even if in hindsight. I wasn't exactly enamored of the h as she flip flops between hate and lust, but once she shed's the hate she proves her self to be a stronger character. I found the resolution at the end just beyond contrived and at that stage I lost interest but then hey ho, it was the end.

I would definitely try another book from this author.

The story was good enough to get through, we all love a will-they won't-they story but I'm left wondering if the characters were even likable. I like realistic flawed characters but the the H and h felt immature and shallow at times. They both had mentalities of looking down on others which was off-putting. Side character Grady's switch from incompetent sexist bully to good guy giving advice was beyond confusing but the side characters Sabrina and Forester seemed interesting so depending on the reviews I might check out the next books in the series.

3.25-3.5 stars! I thought this book was going to be much longer than it actually was. I felt like there could’ve been more buildup that made us love Caden and Finlay more if the author had spent a bit more time developing their romance.

Finlay is struggling with the loss of her twin brother, who was supposed to be the star quarterback of Alabama. Instead of him, she’s decided to come and work for the team in his place. She hates Caden, who became the quarterback in her twin’s place, because he got to live the life her brother never had and he laughed at his funeral.

Caden has his own problems, which include a dad who’s a dick because he cheated on his mom as a kid, and his learning disability. He sticks up for Finlay when a team member was being mean to her but when she snaps at hime he decides to leave her alone. However, the more he learns about her, the more he’s intrigued.

I’m not gonna lie, I almost gave up 3 chapters in because Finlay was a brat but she began to grow on me. And as I kept reading she REALLY grew on me.

And Caden is such a sweetheart. Not your stereotypical jock. I’m glad he realized how much he messed up and worked to fight her back.

I’m glad that when they broke up she didn’t cry and mourn the loss of their relationship. She was angry and stood up for herself and just tried to do her.

“I will make the first move. I will make this better. All you have to do is meet me half way.” UGH I CRIED AT THE LETTER AND I LOVE THIS QUOTE. I’m gonna use it in my life.

Also random side note: OMG GRADY SURPRISED ME. I don’t know if I like him now or still dislike him. I wish we read a bit more about him.

I would’ve loved to see Finlay show her skills to the other team members. Like, to see their shock and mouths gaping open because she knew football. I’m kinda sad we missed out on her bonding with the guys after the frat party. There could’ve been a lot of good friendships built between Finlay and the team, but the author missed the opportunity!

Rate: 5 stars (It was amazing for a NA story)
Setting: Alabama
Length: 254 pgs.; 22 chapters & Epilogue
Published: 1/2017
Series: 1 of 4 (however they are standalones)

It's been a while since I read a NA book. Reminds me why I really enjoyed them. It's a light (for the most part, however there is dark past in the FMC), fast read. First time reading anything from this author and I will try and remember her name so I can read more of her stories. I'm just horrible with names. I will definitely put the rest of the series on my TBR pile and will look forward to reading the rest. I can only guess who the next two characters will be and I'm embarrassed that I'm so excited for a NA book.

For Finlay,  J. Nathan

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, New Adult

I’ve enjoyed some terrific NA reads, despite being well past NA age....I’d read Until Alex and had mixed feelings, some of it felt really slow and very YA as opposed to NA, but there was a section that had me gripped, so I requested this book hoping the writing had evolved that way.
Sadly for me its not, well not with this book. That's fine, everyone wants different stories, different types of writing styles and this already has lots of 5* reviews so clearly its perfect for other readers.
For me though it still felt very YA, with the protagonists being very immature in their actions and reactions.

I did feel for Finlay, what an awful thing to happen, and understood perfectly her feelings towards Caden, based on what she saw. Thats it though isn’t it – its what she thought she saw not what actually was happening, there’s always more to a story...and its a long while before she discovers that.
Meanwhile she’s so attracted to Caden despite her feelings and that was fun, seeing how the boy she thought he’d be matched up to the one in front of her...or rather didn’t. There was some snappy dialogue that was fun.

He was a typical football Jock except for his anti cheating stance, I was pleased to see that, and understood his reasons. He kind of stretches credulity though when it comes to how he breaks with the girlfreind and gets with Finlay, he's sticking to the letter of his morality but not really the essence of it. Still, its a typical YA/NA reaction, do what you want and convince yourself you're in the right :-)
His girlfriend was a great b itch, I do so love characters like hers. I’d have liked to have seen more of her and the nastiness, perfectly drawn, rich b itch type wanting a rich and famous husband....there's a lot of them around.

Overall, though the story was moving forward, for me it felt a bit too YA, the characters kind of immature in their actions, and I wasn’t hooked into what was happening, gripped with the story, didn't have the can't-put-it-down feeling.
And of course when Caden finds out what he thinks is the truth his reaction was just that, like  a thwarted schoolchild rather than an adult.
In some ways I was kind of having mixed feelings, the drama of it was perfect, the ex was wonderfully vindictive, but believing he’d really react like that? On the say so of someone who he knows a) doesn’t like Finlay b) wants him back c) got her knowledge in a strange way, its not as if Finlay was hiding it.
Somehow that reaction felt OTT even though it led to some perfect drama. I felt the Caden we’d been led to believe in wouldn’t have acted that way, would have looked a bit harder for the truth. Still then I guess we wouldn’t have this book....

So the drama of it was perfect even though the reasons for it fell down a bit. The storyline was ok, more or less believable, but for me the characters felt a little immature at times, backed up by Caden’s reaction.
Its me more than the book, its a perfectly decent read, and has lots of readers who love it, but for me its between a three and a four star not a five. If you love typical storm in a teacup YA romances this is perfect, I need a bit more maturity in my characters and their actions though.

Stars: 3.5, a good read, perfect for others, but a bit on the YA side for me.

This was a very sweet NA book that reminded me a lot of the Off-Campus series by Elle Kennedy (which I also loved). Finlay lived her entire life in the shadow of her older brother, football star Cole Thatcher. She hates always being referred to as Cole’s little sister and always craved an identity of her own. This causes her to push her older brother away, a mistake she regrets every day when her brother suddenly dies.

Two years later, moving to a new town to work for the Alabama college football team she is trying to live her brother’s dream. Even if it means working beside the new quarterback Caden Brooks. She has reasons to hate him for taking her brother’s place on the Alabama team but soon hatred turns into sexual tension as neither of them can deny the strong attraction they feel.

I am glad I picked this up, even though I really have no interest in football because it was very enjoyable! Both Finlay and Caden are great characters. I like how the mistake and the whole reason that Finlay hated Caden as much as she did before even meeting him was very realistic and this book had no drama just for drama’s sake. The conflict was well written and interesting.
The only issues I had was that I could have done without Caden’s POV entirely! I felt like it didn’t really add much to the plot for me and it would have been interesting getting to know Finlay better and learning more about what she wanted to do in life, like picking a major, future plans, her relationship with her parents etc.

I also found some of the scene changes in the novel disorientating. For example, Caden and Grady get into a fist fight and instead of continuing that storyline and finding out what happened, it starts the next scene with Finlay swimming at 4 am. The author could have easily started the new paragraph in Caden’s POV. Where did the rest of the day go? We obviously learn what happened when Caden comes to where Finlay is swimming but I would have rather followed the story closer...or why have Caden’s POV at all?

The epilogue was very sweet and we definitely get a HEA, although I was a bit disappointed that Caden never resolved his issues with his dad because I felt like his dad’s new wife had a point when she spoke to Caden at the hospital when he was sleeping beside Finlay.

Overall this was a very fun and entertaining read but it goes beyond the typical NA novel by talking about dealing with death. If you enjoyed The Deal by Elle Kennedy or Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock I would definitely recommend this!

REVIEW: 4 FANtastic STARS
"He laughed, and when he laughed like that I almost forgot I hated him."

FOLKS!! I found a new author to stalk!!! I seriously RAN to Goodreads after finishing this book and added all of her other books to my TBR....not to mention hunting for the next standalone in this series that has now become a MUST READ for me!! For Finlay was my first read by J Nathan, and it will happily not be the last. I think this will be the start to a promising stalking career for me. If all her books can promise to be this sincere and heartfelt while being uplifting and romantic, I am definitely going to be a happy blogger!

This book immediately pulled me in and I didn't put it down....no respect for the next morning at all. I was up way too late reading it. Seeing all the inspiration she has on her BLOG for Caden and Finlay makes me smile even more because I could see and feel what she was trying to relay while telling their story....I am just in love with these two!! I liked the young alpha side to Caden. I think she gave him just enough attitude to come across as strong and confident, but also enough freshness to not make me roll my eyes. I loved his wit and banter, as well as his ability to turn everything Finlay said into something dirty. It made me giggle!

"Stop worrying about what worked for me in the past. Is it working for me now?"

I like a good sports romance, but I was pleasantly surprised that this one didn't only center around that. I really enjoyed the sport side of it, but the romantic side to this story was a refreshing approach to NA for me. I don't generally read NA, but this book hit all the right points for me. There was soft angst, not the tummy twisting kind I crave, but enough to hold my interest. There was heartfelt emotion that actually made me breathe with a hitch and widen my eyes. Finlay had been through something quite tragic, and the emotional parts we went through with her were heartbreaking....and here she is, minding her own when Mr. Cocky inches his way into her life. I liked how she didn't give a damn who he was and what he did, and she basically let him know it. Their back and forth volleying during their conversations was comical and quick witted.

Finding out the meaning of the title of a book is one of my favorite things to discover while reading a new author, and this title had an emotional undertone for me. I felt it was a beautiful moment between Caden and Finlay that made me smile, but more importantly that HE knew and understood what he was saying when he said it. This book had ALL the makings for a smile-inducing, enjoyable read. So so good. So good.

"Being with Finlay was so natural. So comfortable. It was the way she put me at ease, but at the same time put me in my place with a mere look."

Another amazing read from J. Nathan. I adored Caden and Finlay's story. It was equal parts heartbreaking and hopeful, the journey a bit messy at times. In the end, it was worth it all.

I just love how Nathan writes. Her storytelling is so seamless, her characters are relatable and flawed, her heroes are swoony and irresistible. My favorite was Until Alex but I think this one might be in the lead. Or quite possibly neck and neck for my favorite.

I love sports romances, especially when they are centered around football. She wrote Since Drew which was so good, but I gotta give Caden the award for best football hottie. Hot damn!! I'll admit, in the beginning, I wasn't sure where the story was taking me but I was hooked.

Finlay was a strong female lead. She was independent and sassy as all hell. And she didn't take shit from anyone, including Caden. She made him work for everything. I almost felt bad for him. Well, yeah, I did once we learned the truth about her past.

The story starts out with Finlay moving to a college her brother was supposed to attend. She worked as a water girl, or water bitch. Which was how she was treated at the start. One douche bag Grady, relentlessly busted her chops...until Cadence Brooks stood up for her.

He was hot as hell.

One thing he didn't know was that Finlay didn't need saving by the sexy star quarterback. She could take care of herself. And she didn't let him forget it either...

Caden was living the dream. A hunky star player, a (total witch) girlfriend on his arm and all the adoring fans in the world, not to mention scouts with their sights on him for the pros. He loved it. Or at least he thought he did.

Once he and Finlay forged a bond, that's when the fun began. She challenged him every step of the way, but he never backed down. Their banter was perfect and their chemistry sizzling. I loved watching their relationship grow and blossom. The start for them was far from easy but it didn't stop them from fighting, because they knew their journey was worth it.

They both had difficult pasts they overcame. Secrets were revealed, threatening everything they worked for. So this isn't a boy-meets-girl-and-sparks-fly-and-they-live-happily-ever-after type story. It was much more. And I loved both Finlay and Caden immensely and the challenges they faced both separately and together. They damn well deserved a happy ending!

5 stars from me!

I can't wait for Forester's book next!

***ARC provided by author in exchange for honest review*** I can't believe this is the first book I've read by J. Nathan; how dare me!!

Finlay Thatcher loss her twin brother Cole two years ago and she fell into a serious depression. Before Cole passed away she was scheduled to start college in Tampa while Cole was going to study at the University of Alabama, roll tide, as the starting quarterback. Tragedy struck and after Cole's death Finlay stopped living, fell into a depression and put off going to college. Fast forward two years and she's attending the college her twin brother was suppose to attend and working on the football team as a water girl. She figured that some way or another she was fulfilling her brother's dream by being on the football field.

Caden Brooks became the starting quarterback after Cole passed away. He had a girlfriend that he thought had his best interest at heart and a nonexistent relationship with his dad. His mom and football were his heart. He wasn't a player and never cheated because he didn't want to turn into his dad and he didn't want any woman to suffer how his mom suffered.

This wasn't insta-love and it was refreshing to see how Finlay and Caden relationship build up. Finlay hated Caden with all her being because she always thought that it wasn't fair that Caden was living out Cole's dream and a misunderstanding had her believing that Caden was happy that Cole died so he can become the starting quarterback.

Caden was always civil to the "water girl" and couldn't understand why she hated him so much. One day Finlay told him how to play/throw better and he found that it was comfortable talking to her since she knew so much about football. FYI, none of the other players knew that Finlay was related to Cole; she kept it a secret. Things started progressing between these two and Caden being a gentleman broke up with his girlfriend before moving forward or even kissing Finlay.

Don't want to spoil it so grab the book but Caden girlfriend started drama that at the end backfired. And make sure you have tissues handy towards the ending because you will smile and cry at the same time. I loved that finally a heroine had a backbone, the hero wasn't a Manwhore and that the drama wasn't overrated. Definitely a must read, a definite 5 stars and would love to read more about Finlay and Caden. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Right from the start we get thrown in to Finlay's world as a water girl for a college football team. How accurate that is I'm not aware. We don't get why she is at first but from the blurb it seems she's atoning for something. Plus she seems to hate the quarterback for whatever reason.

Soon enough it becomes clear why she has some beef with Caden. He was pretty much as expected cocky and pretty full of his jock status. But that's just part what's causing the chip on her shoulder. Slowly she gets to know him, her initial impression and reasons seem to not be as significant anymore. The guy she is getting to know seems decent even for all his ego and status. One of those love to hate relationships going on.

When all gets revealed, I admit that part got me emotional for them. That was some closure for Finlay. Although that drama was partly expected it was done in a way that fits the characters. Some communication and honesty would've solved ot but then there would be no conflict. Finlay is pretty cool after you getter to know her, I still don't think her running at night on campus alone is the smartest and her being in the boys locker rooms. I like that she can hang with the boys though, mentally tough, knows her football.

One thing that till the end that struck me as odd. Finlay was so hesitant to tell Caden she loved him back. I realize she thinks it and feels it. But he was more vocal. Sure actions and all that jazz, she does use other words that convey the same meaning but felt off and stood out to me. This one turned out muchmore than expected and I quite enjoyed it. A pretty solid sports romance. This is my first book by the author and definitely won't be my last.

I absolutely love J. Nathan's stories. She always gives me exactly what I'm craving in a book. Finlay and Caden were perfect together. Their banter and interactions were perfect. I loved reading for For Finaly, it definitely gave me the ahhhhhhh feeling and I didn't want it to end.

4.5 Stars!

J. Nathan is brand new to me in the romance world but that is just a minor detail that I will be fixing here in the near future. Full of heat, heart, and emotion, Nathan takes readers on a journey that won't soon be forgotten in her standalone novel, For Finlay.

She's broken and riddled with grief... trying to heal.
He's cocky... with the world falling at his feet.
She can't stand him. He is intrigued by her.
And the sexual tension simmering between them? Intense.
Sometimes life gives us exactly what and who we need when we least expect it.

For Finlay was a beautifully written romance that touched my heart and soul. This book was so good and so captivating... taking me on a journey that had me on the edge of my seat cover to cover, racing to get to the end... and giving me a few twists along the way to keep me on my toes. I went on a roller coaster ride of emotions with Caden and Finlay, finding myself swooning, smiling, laughing, shedding a tear, and falling head over heels in love.

I highly recommend this book.

It read like old school NA.

I think if this had come out in 2012 or earlier, I would have loved this. But having read a plethora of New Adult books in the past 5 years, I'm quite jaded and a lot worn out.

But this was really good work. It felt like a lesser version of Sarina Bowen's The Year We Fell Down. The two are very different - only similar in that he's a big shot athlete and has a girlfriend. Speaking of girlfriends, if there is one thing I didn't like in this book: it was how blatantly they showed off their new relationship after he just broke up with the other one. Talk about cruelty and insensitivity.

Also, how creepy is it to insert a letter in someone's pocket during a funeral? And how do you pull that off and how clueless can one be?
