Bad Boy Trucker #1

Mother Trucker

Rate this book
DIESEL

I’m a long haul trucker with a full load.

I f*ck who I want. When I want. And I always leave them begging for more. I roll into town, take the best piece of ass I can find, and then move on before the sun rolls into the morning clouds.

But not Lucy, the sunshine of a girl who works at the truck stop diner off Exit 276. She’s too sweet and too fragile for a bad boy like me to screw over. My past is mine to bear alone.

Except one look at those gorgeous green eyes, and I’m toast. Hell, I’m only a f*cking man. And a man can’t resist what he wants no matter how hard he tries.

LUCY

I had big dreams for my life, but they flew right out the window when I used all my college savings to bail my brother out of an awful mess.

So, now I work in the grimy truck stop diner every night, serving up greasy food to leering men. It’s the only way to get by.

There’s one trucker I don’t mind so much though. Mysterious, rugged, dangerous. He’s the hottest man I’ve ever seen, and he looks like he likes to f*ck hard.

Turns out he does.

Now I’ve had his baby. Too bad he’s disappeared without a trace. Even though I try to hate him, I can’t get him off my mind. I want him to come back and be a father to our child. But that’s not the only thing I want.

I want to give him my heart.

Enjoy this sexy standalone romance, HEA guaranteed!

Cute, quick read. Diesel is completely troubled over stuff that happened while he was in the Army. Lucy is a sweet girl who works in a diner because her brother took all her cash for his drug problem.

I liked it, like Diesel, like Lucy, liked they go their HEA but.....

The story could have been more. It didn't go into detail how the brother ruined Lucy's life or whether he stole the money or she gave it. The drama with Diesel's past and why he refused to be with her fell short. It built it up for so long that by the time things were revealed I was left unfulfilled. Oh well.

I did enjoy it. It was really cute and I'll definitely read the other books in this series.

This book was a lot different than I thought it would be.   For a shorter story (120-ish pages) I thought it really packed a decent storyline.

Diesel was a long haul trucker.   He was also a very emotionally damaged man.  He stopped at the same dive truck stop on his route every time he passed through. Not for the horrible food but for Lucy, the beautiful waitress who made him feel things he didn't think he deserved.  He watched her, wanting more with her knowing it could never be.   Until one night, he stepped in to save her and it led to the best night of his life.  Unfortunately,  he thought the right thing to do was leave.

Lucy knew that the trucker who always stopped in wanted her.  She could feel his stare.  She finally worked up the nerve to flirt with him, only for it to be shot down.   Before he could leave though, he stepped in to save her.  She ended up having the best night of her life and he leaves her, without even saying goodbye.

Now he is back , a year later and she has to share the news with him that he is a dad.  She is angry and hurt but she knows that he deserves to know.  Diesel knows he doesn't want to leave them,  so he tries his best to make it work.

--broken hero
--strong forgiving caring heroine
--hero pushed heroine away
--steamy sex scenes
--om drama - none
--ow drama -
--decent epilogue that gives us a glimpse into their immediate future.   Would have liked more

Not specifying whether or not the H slept with other ladies in his yearly jaunt away from the h was annoying. And always in the back of my mind. He was pretty weak when he ran away like he did anyway. The explanation was horrible for why he was all shut down, but dude needed therapy, not a cdl to drive a semi.

This one has some issues but the biggest issue is the title!

Mother Trucker is...surprisingly deep and angst filled considered the title and blurb.

Outside the title, there are other issues that were treated shallowly: the blurb mentions the brother caused the heroine to lose her college fund but the book only mentions that in passing. The hero is suffering from PTSD but the book seems to give the impression he was healed by the power of the pussy. (cue eye rolls)

There are no details as to the life of the heroine in the solid year that the hero was missing nor are there any details about the brother getting clean.

So. Lots of plot holes. But still surprising for a book titled "Mother Trucker."

Lucy has had a hard life, and Jared is the reason she hurts so bad at the moment, yet without him, she would never have really felt loved, if only he could stop what he's doing, if only he could be the man she used to know, then maybe she would be living out her dreams instead of slowly wasting her life in a diner. Lucy has one guilty pleasure she enjoys, she gets to see the hot guy come in, the one who sneaks looks at her. Diesel can't help himself, Lucy is everything he doesn't deserve, yet everything he wants, he knows if he has her, he will destroy her life, because what woman would want a man with his demons. When Diesel decides to leave after Lucy puts herself on the line, he witnesses Lucy being hurt, and worst of all, it's by the man who took everything from him, destroying his life, Jared. The only good thing resulting from this encounter is that Lucy and Diesel wind up in each other's arms, but when Diesel runs in fear, and for Lucy's safety, he leaves more behind that he means to. Lucy hunts for him, and after six months gives up all hope of finding him, until he walks into the diner a year later, but by then anger is her biggest emotion. Diesel can't believe the words from Lucy's mouth, but his response shocks Lucy more than she ever imagined.

I loved the deep intense feelings that Lucy and Diesel had for each other, their past hurts, and their desires strengthened their passion. Piper has done an amazing job catching the hurts and pains, and also the amazing truth of the purest love, that of a parent. A great read

Sweet, quick read.
Having said that........ The author knows absolutely nothing about truck driving. Lets start with the fact that he parked his truck in front of that diner for how many weeks and she never saw the name of his trucking Company or his DOT #? Also, no way does a trucker have an open flask of whiskey in his truck that is totally against DOT rules and regulations. Next.... numerous times she mentioned his butter soft leather seat and how they made love on them and he went into the truck to sleep but why didn't he go into the sleeper???? I mean if he is an over the road trucker then he has to have a sleeper to take his required 10 hour break into the sleeper berth. Next.... A truck driver does not just drive to someone's house down a dirt road and let trees bang his paint job especially if he's an O/O (owner/operator). Also how does he even know that he can get back out once in there?? He would not knowingly drive blindly into a situation that he would get stuck. Semi's cost a fortune to be towed! Also was he an owner operator? Or a company driver? Did he have a load or was he empty when he came to the diner???.... Well I'm sure by this point you can guess that I drove semi for some time.... and again although I loved the story and I could point out a bunch of other errors about OTR Drivers...... I'll leave it at this....... It wasn't very realistic.

I really liked this story, something about this trucker oozed hotness. Great short story.
Diesel is used to being alone on the road, gets to a town and takes the hotness girl nothing about it but there is a waitress that he sees that makes him forget about any other girl. Lucy knows diesel is hot and everytime he shows up she gets nervous around him but not today she is going to go for it and she does. When these two have a memorable time they didn't think anything of the smallest hole in the condom only 9 months later is was something. Diesel left after their time together because he was still damaged from the time he spent in the military and he didn't want darkness to touch her so he left and didn't look back. 1 year later he rolls in town thinking she probably went on to do better things only she hasn't and barely hanging on after giving birth to his daughter. When diesel finds out he knows he will step up even if he still can't let go of the past that haunts him. They figure out a way to work and it is an easy routine until his past collides with his present and he doesn't know how to deal but Lucy isn't letting him get away so she fights for him.

The scene with him and his newborn daughter was the sweetest, a big guy holding a baby so damn cute.

The title says it all :) A quick read about love and forgiveness.
Lucy is one of those characters that keeps on "trucking" no matter what life throws at her. She's pretty darn resilient. Diesel has life the way he thinks he needs it....travelling city to city with no emotional connections. BUT he can't forget the girl at the truck stop diner. You can feel the connection between these two and you'll want to throat punch Diesel at one point, but he more than makes up for it. Really enjoyed.

DNF @ 61%.

I tried and tried, but I could not get through this book. I loved the premise and was excited to read this one. Disappointed.

A trucker, Diesel, has been visiting a truck stop diner for many months. He has an eye on the waitress, Lucy. He thinks Lucy is innocent and full of sunshine. Diesel think he not good enough for Lucy so he has always kept his distance from Lucy. Lucy's brother spent her college fund on drugs and other things so now Lucy is stuck working at the diner. One night when she sees Diesel, she approaches him in a flirty matter. Diesel is shocked and turned on, but in his POV over and over he states how he is not good enough for Lucy. Anyway, long story short, they have sex that night in his truck. After they have sex Diesel leaves and Lucy finds out she is pregnant with his child. She tried looking for Diesel, but she only had his first name and that he was truck driver, so she had no luck. One year later, Diesel comes into the diner, surprised that Lucy still works there. She tells him he has a daughter. Diesel is excited and blah, blah, blah.

The writing style did not work for me. The frequent switch in POV distracted me from the story and I disconnected. Poor execution.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

He drives a truck up and down the same stretch of highway. Every night he stops in the little run down hole in the wall truck stop diner. Not for the food though. Oh no Diesel stops in, goes to his usual corner booth and basically stares at the gorgeous waitress. She really doesn't seem to notice him much, and she takes his order and pretty much leaves him along. That is okay with him, he doesn't want anything long term or anything more than a little fun. So why is it tonight is so different then the others? What is happening.

She is finishing up taking another truckers order when she hears the dinging bell above the door notifying her that someone is coming in. She looks up and pauses....it is him. She knows he has been staring at her and checking her out when he thinks she doesn't see him do it. But she has, oh yes indeed. Tonight the shy little one is going to talk to him, so she does. He throws money on the table and runs out. She doesn't know why he does that, how did she read him so wrong?

Now here is where it all starts happening....in walks her brother (not by blood but a lifetime of story that is addressed in detail in this book) drugged up. He is there for the money, when she refuses to give it to him he pushes her and hurts her. Diesel sees this and in a flash is in there teaching this jerk what he did wrong. Without giving too much away Jared (aka the brother) and Diesel have a past, (a very anger filled, full of loss and loss of family) only Jared is too drugged to recognize Diesel. The same does not hold true the other way around. Diesel is ready to end this jerks life once and for all. The only thing is Lucy is yelling for Diesel not to hurt him anymore. Diesel is peeved to say the least. Jared leaves (not completely scratch free) and Diesel helps Lucy up off the floor. He convinces her to come outside and shake off what just happened. One thing promised is a stiff drink, which now they are in the cab of his truck....yes there is a drink involved, but there is more. Promises of waiting for her to get off of work that night are made, and then he is gone and doesn't return for the next year.

In that year a lot has changed for Lucy, including a surprise. There is also a brother getting clean from drugs - just a side note, because it is important. Who happens to walk into the little diner one year later, oh yes it is Diesel himself. He spots her right away, he walks up to her, and to put it mildly she is angry. Sparks fly and things are introduced at this point. Now Lucy is the spitfire and not taking any of Diesel's "sweet words" or anything. A-N-G-R-Y and with just cause. But as soon as the secret is revealed things start to change, and all for the better, and this time Lucy is not having anything to do with allowing Diesel to run. Thing of that is, he finds himself unable to, but he still harbors a secret. Part of that secret her brother tells her, but part she has Diesel tell her about. Then as he starts to open up he sees he is not being judged by her or anyone of the family, no pity either. Just a sense of belonging and acceptance. The healing for all begins.

There is just so much happening and man, totally an unable to put this book down from start to finish. All that transpires and the ending just wraps this book up in a perfect red bow. AWESOME!!!!

I checked this book out on KU as something of a lark after seeing the title and giggling over it with my girlfriends so I'll be the first one to admit my surprise over the following statement : MOTHER TRUCKER was actually a lot better than I expected. It wasn't awesome but King's writing was far more eloquent and enjoyable than what I was prepared to endure and there was a lot of potential in this short read. It really only skimmed the surface of a typical full-length romance -- yet featured all the same general elements -- and yet the author still managed to add a lot more depth and emotional content than I would've expected for a story about a trucker who fucks a waitress in his cab. Not to mention what I was prepared for based on the title and cover. Refined literature this is not. But other than a few spelling and punctuation errors, and one spoiler I'll hide below, this was pretty decent.

I think I would've liked this a lot more as a full length, assuming we didn't get the usual drawn out coupley ups and downs, and had . If her next Bad Boy Trucker installment is full length (or, even as short as this one) I will definitely give it a read.

This was a quick read but a lovely story. Diesel is a long haul trucker who meets Lucy, a waitress at a regular truck stop, there is an attraction between them and eventually they have a brief encounter which leaves her pregnant. Diesel is shaken by their interlude and thinks he should forget about seeing her again as he has "issues", so after their fling he doesn't return to the truck stop until a year later. When he finds out about the baby he wants to stay and make a go of it but Lucy's brother Jared and Diesel have a bad history which needs to be worked out. A good story with strong and likeable characters. I'd definitely read this author again.

As an actual trucker, once I got past the unrealistic trucking stuff (having sex in the seat and not the sleeper, driving blindly to her house and the park without knowing what kind of terrain he would encounter, alcohol in the truck, etc...), this was a pretty good book. I liked Diesel and his alpha ass.
And I can definitely recommend a proofreader because there are a few errors that should have been caught.
If the author is going to write books about trucking and truckers, I would definitely recommend researching the subjects because more than a few aspects of trucking life were unrealistic.
I'd be happy to answer any questions for her.

What a great story!

This one tugs at your heartstrings from the very first sentence. Piper King does an amazing job of navigating the twists and turns of an unforgettable story. Diesel is the bad*ss trucker; Lucy is the beautiful but stuck in nowhereville waitress at a lousy truck stop. When they finally meet...magic happens.

This is definitely a keeper!

Not gonna lie, I totally picked up this book because the title cracked me up. Unfortunately, the title and the cover were the best parts of this thing.

This story is just a big cheeseball cliché with no substance. Lucy is the super wholesome Mary Sue goddess that the big bad trucker fantasizes about. She's s00000 sweet and innocent and he's soooooo afraid of ruining her.

description

Of course, they bang, and then he's a coward and runs. But SURPRISE there's a baby.

description

A year later, Diesel swings by again, we discover the ridiculous reason why he didn't want to be in a relationship, and Lucy magically cures him in one night.

descirption

This story has just been done so many times already. If you're going to do it again, there really needs to be something worthwhile, but this whole thing is just really surface. We get little bits of information, but there's not enough detail to make it feel like a full story. There's really no relationship building at all, and the plot is really thin. Just wasn't enough for me.

This was a cute fast read that had a decent amount of steam to it and a good plot. Diesel was rough around the edges but once we get his story we are able to understand why. I really like Lucy and her big heart. I had issue with the pace of the story. It was too fast paced to get the deeper story across and have it impact me as a reader. I wanted to invest in Diesel’s past but I couldn’t. Add in the fact that the whole baby aspect wasn’t as front and center as I wanted it to be, I couldn’t love it. 3 stars #2OCCJD

A great quick novella. Was a little too quick and would have loved more of it.

The plot was good. You get a broken hero, loving heroine, a baby, and a past that makes things interesting.

My only take away with the story is on how dumb they were when it came to a small rip in a condom. Like really?! Haha... how much could have leaked out?

I love Diesel and Lucy's story. This story is very relatable. Diesel may be dealing with PTSD but Lucy is dealing with PTSD a whole different way. In order to understand this you will have to read this quick, fun, sexy, emotional read. The storyline and characters are well written and developed, just wish it was a little longer. I look forward to reading more my this author. I highly recommend this book.

truckers aren't all bad

i was pleasantly surprised with this story, i was a "trucker" for two years and it's not a life for everyone. some people use it to hide from something or even someone. i gained a granddaughter and lost my mother, getting off the truck was so i could be with my granddaughter. this story was short, however it also was really, really good. good job piper king.
