Mortis #1 - 3

Mortis Vampire Series Omnibus 1 #1-3

Rate this book
This omnibus includes the first three books of the Mortis Vampire Series.

Death Beckons - Natalie Pierce knew that using the bathroom at the far end of the dark and scary alley was a bad idea but when you have to go, you have to go. Her intuition of danger is proven to be correct when she is snatched by an ancient vampire by the name of Silvius. After three nights of torment, she awakens to discover that she has joined the ranks of the undead and is now expected to be her new master's willing servant.

Lord Lucentio, vampire justice bringer, has been sent to Australia to hunt down and execute a traitor. Silvius had broken several of their strict laws and fled from the Comtesse, Council and Court that rule the European vampire nation.

Stumbling upon Natalie while hunting his quarry, Lucentio quickly realizes she is anything but a normal newly made vampire. He strongly suspects that she is Mortis, the dreaded being that has been prophesized to bring death to his kind. Luc can't allow a fledgling vampire to roam around without supervision. His sense of duty compels him to take Nat back to Europe despite knowing the doom that will shortly be unleashed upon vampirekind.

Death Embraces - Natalie Pierce awakens to find herself buried in a box that strongly resembles a coffin. After some initial confusion she remembers that she has become a member of a very exclusive club; the living dead.

Natalie has three important tasks ahead of her. One: escape from her underground prison. Two: hunt down the creature responsible for imprisoning her. Three: discover who or what is behind the cause of the sentient shadows that only she can see.

As the long awaited and highly unanticipated Mortis, Nat has abilities that no other vampire has ever before possessed. She must utilize the strangeness that sets her apart from her new kin to fulfil a prophecy that was written over two thousand years ago. The ancient text predicts that it is her destiny to wipe out the vast bulk of her own kind. Despite all of the weird and wacky powers that she has gained, not even Mortis can avoid her fate.

Death Deceives - From the moment she’d been turned into Mortis, Natalie Pierce had been fated to come face to face with the first vampire ever created. Hideously transformed over thousands of years by the diseased blood that runs through his veins, the First had created an army of grey skinned imps. His plan is to enslave humanity and to turn them into a vast herd of cattle to feed his offspring.

Nat and her friends are all that stands between the humans and the bat faced, orange eyed imps. Aside from the overwhelming odds against them, Natalie foresaw an even bigger danger. As vampires, they were all highly susceptible to becoming possessed by their shadows. Once that happened, they could then be turned into imps by the First. Luc, Geordie, Igor and Gregor would be doomed from the instant they set foot inside the First’s lair.

A recent prophecy had foretold that an army would come to Natalie’s aid. With many of her new kin already possessed by their shadows, Nat was uncertain where this mystery army would come from. She could only hope that the prophecy would come true. If it didn't, she would be facing the First and his growing army of ravenous offspring alone.

I began reading horror and paranormal books when most girls my age were still reading fairy stories. I always dreamed that one day I would be able to write stories that readers could become lost in.

The Mortis, Shifter Squad, Hellscourge and Fate's Warriors series are connected, but can be read as stand alone series. The overarching theme about Fate's chosen champions will come to an end with my fifth series; Loki's Exile.

My sixth series, Hunter Elite, begins a new saga with the seventh series, Half Fae Hunter, as a spin off.

Action packed and hilarious!

This is the first I've read of J.C. Diem's work, and it won't be the last. Her unique twist on vampires will have you craving more. These books are full of suspense, action packed, and absolutely hilarious! Natalie, the main character, is so well fleshed out and her subconscious voice will leave you in stitches! Even my husband made the comment that he hadn't heard me laughing this much in years. I was so engrossed in these books that I hated to go to sleep. It's 2:30 a.m. and as soon as I leave this review, I'm buying the next set. I can't wait to read what's in store for Natalie and her merry band of misfits. While I never leave spoilers, I will say, the romance in this series is perfect, and also funny.
I love the author's Aussie humor. I've recommended this series to family and friends. I highly recommend it to other readers as well. It's a five-star, must-read! You won't be disappointed! Serious book hangover!

No thank you

If this wasn’t a box set I would’ve stopped at book 1. I almost just stopped reading it after book 1, but I’m ridiculous and hate putting books in my DNF shelf. I did not like this book one bit. Natalie kind of annoyed me and there just wasn’t enough of a plot. Obviously vampires are not real, but she gets her body dismembered, stabbed through the heart, and her head cut off and the only thing she can’t be in is sunlight?!? I was just all kinds of confused and bored. I think I’ll just leave the series unfinished.

Absolutely Fan-Freaking-Tastic 😁

This is the first series I've read by this author and it was FANTASTIC 😃. Totally non-stop action, INTENSE situations, major CREEPY bad guys and yummy Vampires 😋. Thanks so much J.C., I'm so looking forward to reading the rest of this series and the rest of your stories 🤓.

Unique Vampire Story

This was unique and different. Some of the scenes like the graveyard were gripping and surreal. My mouth was hanging open when I read all that. Well made characters, good world building, action, treachery, tragedy and romance. Would have given this 4 stars but I did not like how some explanations where repeated and that this set was not longer.

Natalie is an extraordinary human turned vampire and discovers she is the prophesied Mortis. Natalie meets Lucentia and bones break in romantic entanglements. It is sublime!

Surprising Series!

If you'd outlined the premise of this series to me before I read them, I never would've picked it up. I tested the theory on my husband by giving him a short summary. He agreed with me that it sounded to fantastical, even for the genre. That being said, it was written in such a way that I used every spare moment to read every book back to back in about a week's time. I couldn't put them down! I forgot to sleep and eat on several occasions. I thoroughly enjoyed each book and even as far fetched as the events seem strung together in a synapsis, the author made it work in a surprising way and breathed new life into a genre that has plot lines heavily repeated. Highly recommended.
