Promises

Rate this book
A brave young man searches for the proof of Stenner’s independence to honor his late brother’s memory.

A handwritten note from centuries ago sends Marcus Ennor on his next adventure—to find the Promise. Its discovery will spell economic disaster for the duke who has ordered his guards to kill Marcus and his meddling friends on sight.

Paid to thwart Marcus’s chance of retrieving the mysterious Promise is only the beginning of Tully Trenchard’s good fortune. An envelope delivers Tully a coveted prize and dangerous company.

The air is charged with spells of destruction as the sorcerers—the good and the wickedly bad—take sides. Inland, Marcus witnesses a ravenous fog and three devilish hounds. Along the rugged coastline, he learns about the cursed monks and giants of Archangel Mount. The big people—known as the Lunks—are unapproachable, yet integral to Marcus’s success.

The path ahead is dark with danger and devastation, yet brightened with six words of hope.

Overall a decent read and much faster paced than book one. Promise felt completely different from Whispers and if you told me they were two different series I'd believe you. Promise tried to be grittier and had lots if death that easily cleaned itself up. I know it's set in a world of magic but it seem so easy just having it clean up as if nothing happened. I was very disappointed in Tully he came off like a petulant child for the second half of the book instead of a likeable villian and you "killed" off the Grendel before we really got to see what he could do. If the series continues and I hope it is; hoping to hear back story on Grendel and Ervan's past as warlocks, possibly go to the other relax and hear more about Marcus ' s brother for I feel there is more to it than it seems.
