I won this. book on goodreads. I think it holds a lot of good practical advice about being happy. if you read something it will probably be repeated a couple of times so don't worry about not remembering.
It’s a good book and a quick read with a super upbeat attitude and lots of little exercises or practices to help you focus on better things. One example is a Thankful Journal where you write down three things in the morning that you are thankful for then three things that night that happened that made you happy that day. It’s a nice way to start and end your day positively. A big component of Get Glad is being more mindful in your life. Taking the time to pause, to focus on something good, to spend more time doing what makes you happy, living with a purpose, making time for the important people in your life. It’s all great advice and the little exercises provided, like the Happiness Audit, helps bring focus onto the good which makes the bad more bearable or just plain vanish. Along with the mental component Get Glad also talks about the physical, like exercising or getting sun, and even chemical aspect of being happy, good ol’ dopamine for the win folks. Finally, even the dirty stuff is mentioned, like cleaning out the negative people or things in your life. Hoover touches on everything you can think of and then some. My favorite aspect of the book is definitely the quotes at the beginning of each chapter, what can I say Neko is a sucker for good quotes. Lots of awesome and empowering people but also folks like Lucille Ball, my idol and role model ^_^ My favorite topic on the other hand, is the section about commitment and how it effects things. Committing to happiness is no different than committing to a spouse or your blog. Commitment is required to succeed at anything, but it doesn’t seem like many people recognize this anymore or practice it, especially when it comes to emotional well being. This is another short read, around eighty odd pages, broken down into bite size chapters that allow you to read and then meditate on the points instead of inundating you with how to be happy. Baby steps for the win!
Overall be mindful of yourself and honest with yourself. If you are unhappy what will it hurt to give this title a try? I enjoyed the read, and hope you guys will too ^_^
Great book that really puts things into perspective, resulting in a more fulfilled and happy attitude. Lots of wisdom in this book that allows for even the smallest things to produce happiness and joy. Formatted excellently, too. Very captivating and easy to read. I would recommend this book highly for anyone who is having a hard time being grateful, content and happy in this fast paced world.
I won a copy of this eBook on goodreads. It is a delightful book that is positive and uplifting. I am a fan of self help books and this book did not disappoint. I like the examples the author gives on practicing mindfulness. The wine tasting reference was my favorite. It gives practical, easy, relatable advice on how to be happier in life.
This is a short book.It gives some good rules to getting happy. Harry Hoover is a fine narrator. The only issue is that some sentences are repeated.I was given this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.
Get Glad: Your Practical Guide To A Happier Life by Harry Hoover is a good book with some great ideas for getting happier and staying happier. I thought the idea of taking stock of what you are grateful for every day is good, and I do plan to add that to my life. I also liked the idea of projecting positive energy with positive thoughts. I agree that the only way to bring about the success and happiness you desire is to shake off the negative thoughts of failure and replace them with positive thoughts of succeeding.
For me, the book had a few hiccups. I didn’t care for the way the lists were formatted, especially the gratitude list of 500 words. Harry Hoover did his due diligence with research and the links to articles and books was a good addition, but I think the bibliography would serve better all together at the end of the book instead of at the end of the individual pages. I felt like this book read as a required reading for a class or a pamphlet with a seminar. Lots of statistics and numbers made it feel like an assignment.
I did find some good ways to bring more happiness into my life, and I will be implementing some of the ideas from Get Glad: Your Practical Guide To A Happier Life.
I have a number of daily devotionals, a gratitude journal, and a strong faith, yet sometimes I am overwhelmed by what happens in life. Get Glad: Your Practical Guide to a Happier Life by Harry Hoover is a nice reboot for me. The book is a simple easy read with advice we may have heard before, but Hoover adds little exercises that help you shift your perspective or to take time to notice little things in life that make you happy or content. I rate the book a 4.5, and I would recommend it.

This guide gives realistic advice on how to find happiness for yourself. The links to outside articles or websites were a huge bonus I really enjoyed. I took copious notes and definitely felt energized while reading this!
I won this book in a giveaway. It was a basic, easy read about ways to get glad. I liked that it stressed gratitude. It was a little repetitious at times and a few of the links didn't work but overall I enjoyed it.
