Her father’s dream. Her crossroads. And a man who sees just her . . .

Megan Calhoun doesn’t stick with anything long. She’s the daughter of a billionaire—why pretend to be somebody else?

Until she finds out her father’s will says she has to. She has to last a year in the oil patch, in the dust and heat of West Texas, working for her daddy’s company. Otherwise she’s cut off without a cent—and no way to earn one.

The only upside is her new pal Rowdy Baker, ex-football star, Calhoun engineer, and grade-A stud. If she has to live in a trailer, his doesn’t sound so bad.

Rowdy knows the roughnecks running the rigs won’t take kindly to a smartass blonde rookie whose last name matches their paychecks. He can’t control his attraction to her. And with everyone from the foremen to the stockholders spitting mad at the Calhouns, he expects trouble ahead.

But Megan has never been scared in her life. And with Rowdy to help her plot, she has the chance of a lifetime: to find her calling, to fix her company, and, if she doesn’t screw it up—to capture a heart . . .

Gerry Bartlett figures that vampires are pretty much like everyone else except for the liquid diet.

Eternity or Mexican food? Tough call.

Gerry’s a native Texan and lives halfway between Houston and Galveston. Pictured with her is her late wonder dog, a Bedlington Terrier named Belle.

When she started writing, she was still teaching and used the pseudonym Lynn McKay. You can probably still find her historical and two romantic suspense books for a penny on-line. Now that she’s no longer in the classroom and discovered the fun of writing about vampires, she uses her real name. Too bad some people think Gerry is a boy's name or short for Geraldine. No, it's not. Really.

She's still writing her Real Vampires series but is back to romantic suspense and contemporaries. Her Texas Heat series starts in Houston, her home town. Then there's her Lone Star Suspense series set in Austin where she went to the University of Texas. She loves the hill country there and brought some of her favorite characters from the Texas Heat series to Austin for the fast-paced suspense in the three books in that series.

You can check out Gerry’s website at gerrybartlett.com to find her blog and articles for writers. Her Perils of Publishing gives the scoop on what happens once "the call" comes. Oh, did you think it would be all roses and champagne? Well, of course it is.

When Gerry's not writing, she's treasure hunting for her antiques business in Alvin. Her favorite finds? Vintage purses and jewelry. It's a struggle not to keep it all. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter for the latest info about her books at http://ymlp.com/xgeyeewwgmgw

First of let me say that Ms Bartlett is one of my favorite authors as I absoultely loved her Real vampire series and Blade and Glory were one of my favorite characters so I was really looking forward to reading her latest series.

I enjoyed the main characters Rowdy and Megan they were like-able fun both had a sense of humor.Megan though she had to be my favorite character one because of her big heart when she saved the puppy and two even though she had been forced to learn about the oil business and work for the company for the year to gain her inheritance she just dove right in and toughed it out without complaining.A pampered princess now having to work now without someone else paying they bills.I loved that she took it all in stride and embraced the experience. In the beginning she was just biding her time but, she truly loved beng involved and changing things for the better even with her and Rowdy having to make difficult choices. We saw Megan blossom throughout the story which I loved seeing.

I loved all the mishaps that this couple had on their road trip and their adventure. One bad thing after another kept happing to this couple. But, through all this mishaps we saw opposites attract and how they form and bond of friendship that turned into love.We saw and attraction between this couple early on even if each fought against it.My only complaint is that although I enjoyed the love story this story lacked heat and sizzle. This couple had the perfect opportunity together to really heat things up on their mishap adventure even though the road trip was about work and not pleasure.

I enjoyed the story from cover to cover which had enough drama along with secrets coming to life with mishaps and a mystery to solve along the way to keep our interest.I also loved the teasing and banter and playfulness this couple had between the two of them.Looking forward to reading the other books it its series.

A recommended read to all

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.  Thank you!  The expected publication date is May 2nd, 2017.

This is the second story in the Texas Heat series however I had not read the first.  I was able to follow and enjoy the storyline without reading the series in order however to be honest, I was really curious about the first story and think I will go back to read it as this series follows the Calhoun children as they try to salvage their fledgling company.  This theme that runs through the stories makes me want to follow each siblings story in order to determine how it will play out.  My assumption is that there will be more instalments to tell the story of the remaining siblings and we will eventually find out how the company fares.

This story was fun in the fact that pretty much anything that could go wrong, did.  From puppies thrown out of car windows (spoiler, don't worry, this works out), Tornado's, cactus prickle in unfortunate body parts and destroyed vehicles, you know you are in for a ride with this story.

The romance aspect of the story was also nice and light.  Although lacking the big aha or dramatic moment, it rather just played out, a nice departure from the regular formula.  Apart from his name, Rowdy was likable and a little bit swoon worthy.  Megan on the other hand was a character you could identify with as she struggled to find out what her place was and what skills she had to offer her family.

With a cast of interesting characters, I found myself speeding through this story and content with its outcome.  As previously mentioned, I am now curious as to how the story will play out and I will be watching for future releases of this series.

This is second book in the series, I did not like it as much as the first one, but it wasn't bad. I did like Rowdy, I had felt sorry for him since the last book, he was a nice guy, and deserved happiness to, howe very as we con tinge tof read he realive he owe'd Cassistance for bejng there for hI'm evendors when he didn't deserve it. I am glad that he admitted to himself that his relationship with Cass had run its course and that he knew that they should have moved on, but it still hurt him understandably. I still did not like the fact that it was with Megan who he ended up with, they were sisters, I don't care that they did not grow up together, from now on he will always see Cass, that is just my opinion. Still, will continue to read the rest in series.

Disclaimer: I received this Book from the publisher, Kensington Books, for free to read and review through the blogger review program at Netgalley. I was not required to give a favorable review only an honest review, nor was I compensated for my review. All thoughts and comments in this review are my own.

Megan Calhoun is the daughter of an oil billionaire and doesn’t give a hoot about anything. She doesn’t stick with anything very long, simply because she doesn’t have to…that is… until her father dies and in his will states she must learn the oil business in the field of his West Texas oil business for one year, otherwise she will not inherit one cent and she is not prepared to earn money on her own.

Rowdy Baker, is not only a Calhoun engineer and ex-football star, but also a top notch stud! The problem is…Megan has to live with him in a trailer, on the road, for one year! How is she going to protect her heart and learn the family business at the same time?

Rowdy isn’t happy with the situation either because he knows the riggers, foremen and stock holders are not going to be happy having a Calhoun who knows nothing about anything sticking her nose in their business. The company is also fighting for its survival, so he knows there is going to be trouble with a capital “T”.

Once trouble starts Megan quickly learns she must depend on Rowdy’s expertise to help her fix her company and find out who is trying to kill them and why?

This book will capture your attention from the first page and the twists and turns will keep you turning pages. The characters in this book will have you laughing one minute and holding your breath the next. If you are in the mood for romance, murder, mystery and a family full of strangers…you won’t want to miss this one.

This is the second in Gerry Bartlett’s Texas Heat Series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one, so I grabbed this one as soon as it came out. I was not disappointed.

Megan Calhoun’s life is changed forever when her father’s will mandates that she and her siblings work in the family oil company for a year before they can claim their inheritance. Her assignment is to work in the field: a dirty, smelly, and dangerous job. Megan grew up privileged, and has never had to stick with any situation (or man) that bored her, but she’s determined to see this through.

Rowdy Baker, on the other hand, has had to work for everything he’s ever had. He’s a quality control assessment engineer for the Calhoun rigs, and Megan chose him to teach her the business. Since her half-sister, Cassidy, recently dumped him for another rich oil company owner, he doesn’t want anything to do with Calhoun women, and is not particularly enamored with the task.

This action-packed adventure is a fun ride of likable characters (including a dog), tense situations, a dark family secret, and hot romance. I’m loving this series, and can’t wait for the next one!

Gerry Bartlett takes us on a tour of Texas with adventure added. The heroine has to spend a year learning about her daddy's oil business before she can inherit the money he left her, and she's picked her sister's ex to teach her. The hero is an engineer who spends his working life traveling to drilling sites to inspect the rigs. And shut them down when necessary-- as it is now, due to the falling price of oil. Which makes for some tense on-the-job moments. We get a tornado, a rich boy ex of the heroine's, a visit to San Antonio, and the Marfa Lights. There's a fair amount of excitement and some steamy sex. They even visit Crystal City, where my mama was born. Not that Gerry names it, but I recognized the statue of Popeye on the town square. But one can trust Gerry to get the Texas right. She's lived her most all her life too. I'm hoping I can find the Las Flores restaurant next time I'm in San Antonio. (Where my dad mostly grew up & used to buy Fritos after school from the house of the lady who invented them, before she became Frito-Lay.)

The Texas Heat series just keeps getting better and better. Texas Fire is the second book in the series, and focuses on Calhoun sister Megan. She starts her job working in the oil fields, according to her daddy’s will, alongside supervisor Rowdy Baker. Somewhere between tornados, cactus spines and fracking disasters, things get Texas hot and heavy between the two. We also meet some new players who will hopefully get their own stories down the road. I can’t wait for the next Texas Heat book to come out.

This starts off as your basic resisting attraction romance, but quickly develops in to more. Megan Calhoun is a well drawn character, not just a spoiled rich girl but intelligent with unexpected depths, trying to find her place in the world she inherited. Add in the real world complexity of energy needs conflicting with environmental as well as economic concerns and this becomes substantive as well as entertaining tale!

Awesome

This book is better than the first. Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Megan and Rowdy are an awesome couple. I loved to hate Clint and Raylene was someone I would love to be friends with. I couldn't put this book down and when I did I couldn't wait to pick it back up. Thank you Gerry Bartlette for writing an awesome story. I can't wait to read the third book in this series.

When Megan’s father passes away his will requires her to work in the oil fields for his company for a year in order to inherit her share of his company. She is assigned to work with Rowdy in the oil fields. He anticipates trouble ahead. The heat rises between them and Rowdy isn’t wrong about there being trouble ahead.

Another winner for this author. The series continues with the next sibling striving to meet the terms of her father's will. Again, my interest was held from the start. I highly recommend this book.

Ok- I had a TON of problems with this book and almost stopped reading, but I’ve enjoyed all her others so I pushed through. First, the issue of consent. There were scenes where the girl fell asleep and the hero let another guy change her clothes after he talked about touching her without her knowing. Lots of scenes where she says no, but then things happen in a cringy way. And then little not researched things - like the bad guy getting caught because Texas doesn’t have state income tax, but Nevada does (it doesn’t). Sorry for my rant.

Texas Fire
Who would it thought that writing about finding oil can make a great book. Interesting unique plot with interesting characters. Megan and Rowdy are stuck together for one year because of her fathers will. Rowdy must teach Megan all about finding and drilling for oil. But their journey starts with tornado and continues with a really interesting adventure. In adventure in which they become lovers. But everything is not all sun and sunshine. There are secrets to be revealed and running away from gun and fire. Interesting read with likable characters.

Another great romance by Gerry Bartlett!

Megan Calhoun was born with a silver spoon and the heiress has always had access to anything money can buy. Unfortunately, money can’t buy happiness. Megan has flitted around from one interest to another, never sticking with anything, and that includes men. Then her father dies and her cushy lifestyle come to a screeching halt – for a year. Or forever, if she can’t fulfill the conditions of her father’s will; for the next year she must work in the oil field, learning the family business from the ground up. To guide her through this year in the field, Megan choses Rowdy Baker, a long-term employee of Calhoun Petroleum and her sister’s ex-boyfriend.

Rowdy Baker is less than thrilled to discover he is going to be stuck with Megan Calhoun as his shadow for the next year. Being saddled with one of the Calhoun sisters, weeks after her sister broke his heart, is about the last thing on earth Rowdy wants, but he is backed in to a corner and has no choice if he wants to keep his job. Unlike the frivolous, spoiled Calhoun children, Rowdy has worked for everything he has, often struggling to make ends meet.

Sharing a small, rusted out travel trailer; spending hours traveling through the lonely roads of West Texas; dealing with the puppy Megan rescues; a tornado; and the ill-will, anger and hate being directed at Calhoun Petroleum because of the oil bust -- all combine to set the stage for a long year for Megan and Rowdy and an excellent story. s

Can Megan convince Rowdy she is more than a spoiled rich kid, willing and determined to fulfill the difficult conditions of her father’s will?

Can Rowdy put aside his anger with her sister, and give Megan a fair chance?

I loved this book and am already looking forward to book three, Texas Pride – unfortunately that won’t be available until October, 2017!

The Calhoun Petroleum story continues in Texas Fire, as Megan Calhoun sets out to fulfill her assignment in Conrad Calhoun's will, working in the oilfields for a year, a tough call for someone who has changed jobs—and boyfriends—whenever boredom set in. And to make the situation touchier, she’s volunteered to go on the road with engineer Rowdy Baker, the long-time boyfriend her half-sister Cassidy left behind in Texas Heat. Rowdy has about as much love for Calhoun women as Megan does for dust storms, work boots, and cramped travel trailers.

But Rowdy and Megan make up their minds to soldier on, even while Megan learns to live without credit cards and Rowdy finds himself saddled with an unexpected puppy. Megan’s fake ID, intended to deflect the feelings of people hurt by the downsizing of the oil industry in general and Calhoun Petroleum in particular, doesn’t last long, and she’s thrust into representing the Calhoun interests to everyone from diner waitresses to environmental protesters.

As if that wasn’t enough, Megan has a guilty secret—she knows something about Rowdy’s past that even he doesn’t know. How in the world will these two share a year in the oilfields without killing each other or bringing another disaster down on Calhoun Petroleum?

I think I enjoyed this even more than I did Texas Heat (You don't have to read that one first--but why not?). Great characters, lots of action, Texas weather, and a puppy. What more could we ask for?

Texas Fire by Gerry Bartlett is the second story in her Texas Heat series.  Having not read the first, I didn't know if I would be lost.  I had no problems whatsoever and was able to easily follow the happenings from book one.  This series features the Calhoun family trying to salvage the family's business and legacy after the death of their father. Each child must work for Calhoun Petroleum for one year in order to get access to their inheritance. Each book follows a different sibling and their year working for the oil industry with their pitfalls as well as their successes. Texas Fire is about Megan Calhoun.

Megan is a girl who has had pretty much everything she ever wanted. Had the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth due to the success of her daddy's company. Finding out after his death that she is required to learn the company from the oil fields, has her in a quandary.  She has no real skills to apply so she is trying to find her way.  She's determined to make it work in order to get her inheritance.  She's set to shadow Roland Baker, aka. Rowdy, who is the field engineer.  He inspects the well sites and the wells themselves, to make sure they are doing everything in a safe and proper manner.

As the trip starts out, Rowdy isn't happy about taking the boss' daughter with him to the fields. For starter's she's a Calhoun-sure to be a prima donna, his ex is her sister Cassidy, and she has no clue about this job or what it entails. Megan did, however, totally take him by surprise.  She was ready to dive into this and actually learn.  I could see how she could've played the rich girl card and tried to just get by, but she didn't.  She finds she does have a knack for research and also with tactfully dealing with people. How their friendship developed and then romance was thoughtful and gradual. Yes there was attraction, and when the sparks flew, the chemistry was sizzling! I also liked Rowdy. Although I didn't care for this nickname, sometimes you get what you get and it sticks! He was a little bit nerdy, but knew what he liked, and didn't sway from his moral compass-even though he had ample opportunity to do that. Their time in the fields is a disaster! Pretty much any and everything you can think of went wrong! I think because of their many perils, they bonded and that sparked the romance. We also have a bit of a mystery to solve and that's where Megan and her research shined!

The story was interesting and the plot filled with some twists and turns!  I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series to see how the other siblings fare with their inheritance requirements, and if Calhoun Petroleum makes it in the end!

Really like it but it wasn't realistic talking about using concrete from a ready mix mixer to cement oil well. It is done with high pressure, bulk dry cement and water and pump trucks. My husband does this for a living with gas wells and used to do the same thing with oil wells. Course if you don't know this you wouldn't know to put it in the book. Other wise it was a good read.
