Bluebell Knopps thought that being a blue-haired witch was weird enough. Then a talking cat offered her a chance to join the most exclusive coven in America, the Phoenix Coven. Now she’s rubbing elbows with some of the most unique and interesting witches in the world, and happily learning the intricacies of being a witch in the process.
But it seems that, even in the witch-world, drama abounds. Bluebell has been witness to endless gossiping, ceaseless bickering and outright undermining. But that’s nothing compared to the MURDER!
The High Priest of the Phoenix Coven has just been found dead, the victim of obvious foul play. Not surprisingly, the deed was clearly committed by someone with magical powers. The only question is: which of the wizards or witches is the murderer?
Bluebell is determined to find the answer. And her meddling just may cost her more than her spot in the coven!

I'm a mother, wife, homemaker, pet lover, teacher, student, reader, writer, drinker of tea & wine (depending on the time of day) and sleep-deprived dreamer. I live in Syracuse, NY, with my husband, Doug (also a writer with books available on Amazon), our three children and too many furred & feathered friends to list!
This would have made a great full length books, but having it crammed into a short story made is rushed and clues sprinkled around became obvious and a bit ham fisted.
Bluebell came across as more ignorant with her incessant questioning, but when it came time for the revelation of the murderers identity, she because a Miss Marple savant. Oh, and I wasn’t all that fussed on any of the other characters. Only really interesting tidbit was the final teaser for what’s in the basement. A stay-tuned-for-the-next-episode deal.
After learning she is a witch, Bluebell's life has taken some odd turns, but none quite so unexpected as encountering a talking cat, who invites her to join the Phoenix Coven. Bluebell travels to the coven's home base, where she meets several interesting witches and wizards, including the handsome Ewan, the beautiful Angelina, and the brusque Sutter, who's the coven leader.
When Sutter is murdered, everyone assumes that Hector is the guilty party, but Bluebell isn't so sure. The clues don't add up, but as she puzzles it through, she realizes who the killer really is.
This was just a short novella, which is why I got through it so quickly. I was disappointed in the second book in the series, but this one redeemed itself nicely. It was light and fun, and perfect for a quick read.
Neither brilliant nor horrible, earning this one an average score.
The worst one. Will not be reading any more as really there has been no growth in the characters. Actually am sorry that I read this one. I think that the main reason why this series doesn't work is the length - the stories needed to be expanded. However am not going to buy any more as they are really not for me.
The story picks up in this one, I'm glad i continued reading on this series, ha! Good characters, I cared about each one of them. I knew I got invested in the story when I didn't want to believe the murder! Excitedly gripping for a short novel
Loved every second of this book. I love learning more and more about Bluebell and her story every book. Nancy does an amazing job at writing a good story that doesn’t bore you with all the unnecessary detail
Bluebell Knopps is not your ordinary young lady, she has neon blue hair, and she is a witch. She is mostly untrained, but a witch none the less.
Bluebell was surprised by the invitation to spend the weekend at the Phoenix estate. The estate is home to the Phoenix Coven, the most prestigious of all the covens. As a result, Bluebell is amazed and uncertain about why they would invite her to join the Coven or even if she should (could).
When Bluebell arrives at the Phoenix Estate, she is greatly impressed by the luxury and beauty of the residence and grounds. She is even more impressed with the members she meets. All are greatly successful in their chosen professions. They are also very nice to Bluebell and made her feel at home as much as possible.
When there is a brutal murder within the estate, Bluebell feels compelled to find the culprit.
Will she be able to ferret out the murderer before the weekend ends? Is her mentor an essential key to solving the mystery? Will the kiler strikel again in an effort to protect himself?
I really enjoyed this very well written book. It opens doors to a variety of “what if” situations. The book is a quick read, with plenty of well-developed and fun characters, each with their own distinctive personalities.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and chose to write this review.
This is a great book; this is the third book in the Bluebell Knopps Mystery series written by Nancy McGovern. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Can you remember your dreams the next morning? Bluebell couldn’t. So, is it a dream if the people tell her it isn’t – especially if she is in her purple pajamas with golden pineapples. The people seem to know her and tell her that she has been invited to join their coven. Then, as usual, someone gets killed and Bluebell must find the murderer AND find out what is in the basement. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
Felt the ending in this one was a bit of a cliffhanger to get you to buy more. Was not that impressed with the 3 in this series that I've read. Short reads. May be better for a younger audience. Writing always seems to be better by the time I get to the end.
I enjoyed this book. The plot was interesting & I didn't guess who did it before it was revealed. However, I only have it 3 stars because I really don't like books with cliffhanger endings that you have to read the next book to figure out what's going on. These books are good enough that this trick is not needed in my opinion.
