Gabby’s friends know she’s getting curious - and there’s just no way they’re going to leave that alone…
Gabby is a sweet, cookie-baking forty-three old receptionist, mother to three grown girls and deeply in love with her two granddaughters. She’s never felt the tiniest bit kinky - but the deep happiness in her office is contagious, and it’s doing some strange things to her very private daydreams.
Ten years ago, Daniel had subs lining up for miles to submit to his inventive skills. These days he’s looking for something different - but even he can’t imagine a forty-three-year-old grandmother is the answer.
My only problem with this book, is why are a 43 and 45 year adult considered old? Why is Gabby described like she is an 80 year old woman who coddles people and bakes them cookies? And why is Daniel described like he is on his last leg? That is what I got from it and let me just say, I’m a 47 year old woman with 4 adult children between the ages of 20 and 26, and I’m not old. Is the author 19 or something?
*MINOR SPOILER WARNING: As this is book 3 in the series there may be minor spoilers or previous plot references below.*
What woman hasn’t had to learn how to get out of her own way? It can be hard to measure up to the pressure we put on ourselves. Now, imagine those pressures in a Dominant/submissive (D/s) relationship. Giving yourself over to another person isn’t easy in a vanilla relationship. Putting your insecurities and trust into a Doms (D) hands can be overwhelming and terrifying. Desire, Lila Moon’s third entry in the Fettered series, handles the delicate task of teaching aspiring submissive (s) Gabby her worth through the eyes of her Dominant.
“Truth, freely offered, is the most powerful aphrodisiac there is. I just wish I knew how to share it with those pernicious doubts of hers.”
You don’t often find a 43 year old grandmother the heroine of a BDSM novel – or many others for that matter. Gabby Mitchell, cookie baker and cooking class instructor to the members of Fettered, has been a little envious of her co-workers’ new D/s relationships. Seeing Emily and Scorpio so head over heels deliriously in love with their respective Dom’s is unleashing a kink curiosity in Gabby. She’s ready to explore her urge to submit. Identifying herself only as a single mother and grandmother, Gabby’s not sure there’s a place for her in the D/s lifestyle. Lucky for Gabby she’s got friends in just the right places to help disabuse her of that notion.
“My students scramble for ingredients, and I take a minute to try to get myself back under control, or at least back into the grandmother persona that seems to help navigate best here.”
Daniel Jardins, founding member of Fettered along with Damon Black, left the club and the lifestyle years ago. Searching for more than a play partner and ‘hot Dom’ status, Daniel’s still drifting and wondering what went wrong. Longing for the comfort and intimacy a lover provides, without the distractions of equipment and sceneing, this semi-retired Dom has no idea how Gabby is going to rock his world. An invitation from Damon to come to the club’s cooking class has him fascinated with the sexy sweet grandmother. He quickly decides he wants to sample more than Gabby’s cookies.
“This cookie baking grandmother, whoever she is, has apparently unmanned a whole sex club.”
Cutting right to the heart of the matter, Daniel steps in and begins instructing Gabby all about her beauty, worth and kinky desires. Although Gabby’s got some reservations she’s ready, willing and able. Or so she thinks. If only she could silence the doubting voices in her head. An intuitive and wise Dom, Daniel uses every trick in his extensive Dom bag to help Gabby stop the negativity…even if it leaves her butt a little sore.
“I don’t walk in world where handsome, confident, charismatic men drop into my kitchen and ask me out to dinner. I grew out of fairytales a long time ago.”
The care and compassion Daniel gives to Gabby is breathtaking in its devotion to the woman he is quickly falling for. Daniel is easily the sweetest and most demonstratively affectionate Dom we’ve met so far. His reflections of his life and the lifestyle enable him to have a perspective that most of the younger Doms have not achieved.
“‘Beautiful, baby.” He kisses my forehead, my cheek, my ear. ‘So far out of your comfort zone.’”
Desire centers on self-confidence and worth in the guise of a middle aged grandmother and it is easy for the reader to see the parallels all women struggle with in the current societal environment. Gabby’s battle with her inner demons takes the majority of the novel to resolve. Her feelings of inadequacy do not disappear overnight – and they shouldn’t. The plotting of her eventual acceptance and embrace of her self-worth are realistic and paced well.
“To feel, most moments of most days, like a woman worthy of that kind of love.”
The sensuality and eroticism are somewhat softer in Desire. Make no mistake – the schmexy times are plentiful. ‘Baby kink’, the lighter side of D/s, is displayed in the majority of the intimate moments, but made no less powerful in their message of mental and emotional surrender – in fact, some of them are made more powerful for their simplicity.
“The soft moan as she tips over the edge as gently as I can take her is the best gift I’ve gotten in a really long time.”
As we’ve come to expect from previous books in the series, the Fettered and Your Perfect Moment crews are back and supportive as ever. Desire maintains its focus on the core of Daniel and Gabby’s relationship, but the side trips to see their friends and family rally around them provide insight, humor and loyal affection. These are the friends everyone wants to have – their genuine care and consideration is another lovely theme that runs throughout the series.
“Damon and Harlan might not appreciate being called fairy godmothers, but I’m pretty sure they’re mine.”
I love returning to the Fettered world. With each book, Ms. Moon takes the reader on an emotionally packed fantasy into the core of BDSM. Here this community welcomes everyone no matter their kink - heavy or light. Emotions and vulnerabilities are explored in a loving and forthright manner, fears laid to rest. A place where BDSM will turn your head inside out and make your heart beat faster. Where friendships are made and lovers are discovered. Kink may be Fettered’s trademark, but its heart and soul are the people and the trust, loyalty and love they build. Bravo, Ms. Moon. I can’t wait to see where you take us next.
“To do that is to doubt the truth that lived in every single one of those moments.”
K’s Category: serial dater, read all novels by author to date. Characters: M/F OM/OW: No Sex: Yes, descriptive HEA: More of HFN with more to follow Standalone: Yes, I believe you wouldn’t have a huge lapse in back stories, but once you see the other couples in action you’re going to want to go back to the beginning and 1-click Yield and Reveal.
Delicious. But it hurts my soul to be the same age as the grandma in this novel. Lol. They act like she’s elderly or something. At 44. Oof.
PREVIOUS REVIEW: So now I am 40 (technically I’m staying 39-ish until my ass lands on a beach, post-pandemic, but close enough), and I still adore this book. It’s just so sexy. I think what attracts me to these stories is how well the dominant partners understand the needs and hang ups of their less dominant partners.
In reality, I feel like rarely do people take the time to focus on what’s really going on with others, and to see beyond the words to the deeper body language of how and what people really feel. But in this world, everything matters, from the smallest hesitations or the biggest hang-ups and fears. People are really seen. They are appreciated for who they are, where they are, and what they are, and I find that beyond fascinating.
I also like the honesty, and the communication, which takes a lot of courage and patience, respectively. Plus, the whole community is so supportive and encouraging. It’s rare to find that kind of community these days, even in non-kinky environments. It’s so very refreshing, and it ties all of my emotions up in knots that are hard to untangle.
PREVIOUS REVIEW: Yes, please. And thank you. I especially like to read stories about couples in their 40s, now that I'm nearing that age gap.
Who knew older people could be so hot. Even though Gabby and Daniel are in their 40s they show just how hot it can be when the kids are no longer at home. Gabby is a wonderful mother, grandmother, and cook. However she doesn't see herself as a sexual being. Daniel has been a Dom for a long time but has been missing something in his life. He finds it in Gabby. I think it's so sweet to see Gabby opening up with Daniel. She is so amazing and deserves some TLC which Daniel enjoys giving her. I also like that he allows her to give back. Got teary eyed towards the end too. I really want to know what's in the box at the end. I received this book for an honest review.
OOOOOMMMMMGGGGGG (yes I am that kind of woman LOL) I cannot begin to tell you how much I LOVE THIS BOOK (yes I'm screaming that). It was full of characters I love from previous books, full of heat and immediate connection and love and the HEA I enjoy! Definitely a must read book. So glad I found Lilia Moon and cannot wait to read more of her books. I love that Gabby takes care of everyone else and now Daniel is here to take care of her. I love that she gives cooking glasses (so funny) to the Doms. This book is definitely a KEEPER and a re-read waiting to happen LOL.
I wanted so much to be with Daniel the love and kindness he had was so nice that all I can think about is falling in love with him and making everything work the way it was supposed to. I will be forever be dreaming of you Daniel and wishing to be held and loved by you like a Dom and Sub should be...DOUBLE_G_N_DRP 4REAl4EVER
I have been SO excited to get to Gabby's story since meeting her in book 1. She is a total sweetheart, kind and caring and I wanted her to get her HEA.
I like that Daniel and Gabby were in their 40s, it's nice to read a story about characters closer to my own age for a change, it's more relatable.
I found Daniel to be an incredibly fascinating character a former Dom who scaled back because he was looking for more in his relationships. He straddles the Vanilla and V BDSM worlds better/more than any character I've read before. He is also the first Dom I've read about who was bi-sexual and I found myself intrigued by that dynamic in their relationship too (I did feel like this could have been expanded on)
I am really enjoying this series and the cast of characters. I can't wait to get to the rest and see how each get their HEA.
i loved the first three books in the fettered series, but really loved the one for gabby and daniel the best. cannot wait for next one, but think there needs to be for ari. no matter what think everyone should read three books, you will not be sorry . enjoy worth the effort
This series is funny, sexy and hot, hot, hot. Each book features my new favorite couple. Read in order or you may get confused. I have read them all and would highly recommend. PS Shouldn't be any "triggers".
This series isn’t working as well as Moon’s more recent work but I was looking forward to some seasoned romance. Unfortunately, I found this to be disappointingly heteronormative with a weird portrayal of kink. The Fettered crew decides Gabby is interested in exploring kink—despite her never telling anyone that—and they introduce her to Daniel, a founding member who got bored with the scene a while back because he wanted something more. It plays into the idea that you can look at someone and just know they’re kinky. If Gabby hasn’t expressed interest in exploring to any of them, they probably shouldn’t be speculating about it.
As far as Daniel goes, most kinky people also have vanilla sex so Daniel isn’t an outlier there the way the book makes it sound. I wasn’t sure why he thought it was so miraculous that some of the members were in long-term relationships. Being into BDSM doesn’t preclude anyone from finding love. It’s never clear why he believes that or why he's never had a relationship. For all the work he does to introduce Gabby to soft kink, he has a lot of ill-informed ideas about “real” Doms, frequently thinking someone should “take away his Dom card” for something benign. It negated everything he said about the power of kink. More egregiously, he’d make a lot of claims about vanilla men vs. kinky men, including how a vanilla man would tell her to go to therapy but since he's a Dom, he’s going to spank it out of her. That…is so incredibly problematic, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Plus, I wasn't all that impressed with him as a Dom. He pushed Gabby harder than necessary and some of his actions felt coercive, instead of prioritizing consent.
Daniel is bisexual, which was great to see but unfortunately, his rep came across as biphobic. Such regressive, limited thinking, on top of the false gender essentialist notions about being a sub.
Lastly, I was floored to learn Gabby is only 43 when she’s made being a grandma her entire personality. I thought she was at least in her 50s or 60s before this book. While I don’t have kids (or grandkids), I am 43 and I cannot imagine so fully identifying that way, nor anyone else my age. 43 is not that old! She and Daniel act like they’re decades older than they are. It’s not that revolutionary for people in their 40s to want to have any kind of sex they want or to own their sexyness. It kept weirding me out.
This just wasn’t nearly as compelling as Moon’s other stuff. I skimmed a lot of the ending. I own the rest of the series thanks to a sale from a few years ago so I’ll probably keep making my way through the rest of it. But I’m unfortunately in no rush to do so after this.

She has three adult 26 year old daughters (one white biological daughter and two brown adopted daughters) and two granddaughters. Daniel is a 45 year old bisexual white entrepreneur, Dom, and Fettered founding member. This is set in Seattle.
Content notes: sexual coercion by MMC , vanilla-shaming (not countered), secondary characters in process of adopting, past teen pregnancy (age 17) and adoption of twin daughters, FMC’s adopted daughters had history of abuse (mention), D/s, on page sex, public sex/exhibitionism, spanking, orgasm control, anal play, sex toy, gender essentialism, ableist language, love interest compared to a drug, casual use of “harem”

Final Notes... Another review hit the nail on the head. Mid-40s does not an old person make. The way it was written at times, it almost felt like they were ready for the nursing home.
I'm going to copy/paste the same review for each book in this series since there aren't many variations. No spoilers 2.5* Different cast but the script follows the exact same plot scheme in each of the seven books: two characters we barely know meets for the first time and pair up for casual kinky sex that suddenly becomes very serious, monogamous, almost vanilla happily ever after love relationship. Everyone is quite anonimous: the differences in personality and physical appearance are just skin-deep, and everyone acts in similar ways. Even age and social status - as it was supposedly intended for this book -, or past experiences, when mentioned, aren't more than just a number or a tag, rather than a way to better detail the person. Book 6 and 7 are slightly better because main characters have a bit more in-depth and nuances: Chloe and Eli - and their relationship - are managed quite well as characters (probably thanks to them being childhood friends) while Meghan's character and storyline in book 5 are the ones worst managed. They still are a fast, light, easy reading anyway.
"It takes a sub who believes deeply herself, all the way down to her bones, to do what you just did.” He smiles. “Don’t forget it.”
I absolutely loved Gabby and Daniel! Gabby is so sweet and brave! Daniel is the most patient and understanding guy! I love the fact that Gabby doesn't even blink when he shares a big part about who her is with her! They are pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly!
Lilia Moon knocks it out of the park with this book! Especially the last sex scene they have at the party! The lead up to that scene is perfect! I may have to go reread it right now!!! :)
I loved this book. maybe because the characters are my age, it it felt all to real. Again the line Lilia walks in these books is so beautiful you will be reading them quickly. I've devoured four this week alone! This book had me in happy tears during a party scene, she really brings the humanity to the BDSM world where most authors leave that part out and focus soley on the roles of Subs and Doms. Gabby & Daniel are like the grandparents you never knew you wanted and if you don't feel that way at the end of the book then I don't think you read it right. :)
Book three of the Fettered series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone, but secondary characters are throughout the series. Full length told in dual POV with HEA. Series takes place in / around the BDSM club and the secondary characters are all coworkers that feel more like a family. Gabby and Daniel were great together. Very little angst / drama, wonderful honest communication between them. I really loved this book and the whole series, I can’t wait to read the next one!
It's a wonderful fairytale with a DOM who is more perceptive than any other man in this world. I love that she gets to touch and pleasure him as well, none of this nonsense of not touching the Dom.
I object to calling people in their forties old. Lilia Moon must be in her twenties, but her writing shows maturity, hot love scenes! I wonder whether she is an accomplished writer with her real name in other fields.
So far I’ve loved each character in this series a little more. Loved that this couple was a little older and that they each had a different idea of what their role was in this relationship. Daniel was amazing in the part he played in repairing Gabby’s self worth and Gabby is such a loving giving women. So far this series is wonderful!
Oh my gosh I can't believe I never reviewed this book. Gabby and Daniel are so sweet together. I love the progression of them as a couple and I love that they both grow as people out of the relationship rather than the easier (and more common) route of her insecurity being magically cured by good sex. I don't think I'd change anything about this one
I wasn't expecting much after the second book but Gabby and Daniel's story ensnared me and dragged me along for the ride. It was beautifully and sensitively told. A story of two people searching for something special. Definitely my favourite installment of the series so far!
Best one so far. Loved that the author took this to another generation.
I really loved Gabby and Daniels story. So much hope for those of us of "age". Well still younger than me but .....I really like keeping all the other characters in these stories as well. Makes you feel like they are family...kinky, but loved.
What a fantastic book. So refreshing to read a book with the H/h in their 40's. The story was character driven with steamy sessions handled with heat and sensitivity. I thoroughly endorse this book. Read it, it's great!
I picked this up because it was in $0.99 box set and because the words “43 year-old grandma” did me in. And oh my gosh was it awesome. Gabby is a single mother with an empty nest and a mile-wide caretaker streak. She’s entered the periphery of a BDSM club and the members adore her so much that they decide to set her up with a long-time semi-retired member. Daniel is so sweet and off-the-charts sexy and I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a cinnamon-roll Dom hero before but I would definitely like to see more.
