Blake A. Hoena grew up in central Wisconsin, where, in his youth, he wrote stories about robots conquering the Moon and trolls lumbering around in the woods behind his parents house, and the fact that the trolls were hunting for little boys had nothing to do with Blake’s pesky brothers. Later, he moved to Minnesota to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Since graduating, Blake has written more than thirty books for children, including retellings of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Perseus and Medusa myth. Most recently, he’s working on a series of graphic novels about two space alien brothers, Eek and Ack, who are determined to conquer our big blue home.

Athena is a good book for beginners in mythology. It tells of the basics to the Greek goddess Athena. She is the god of wisdom and war strategy. This book also tells the story of Arachne. I really liked how they made things simple and easy to understand. This author has also written a book like this for Hermes, Poseidon, and many other gods. This nonfiction is a quick read, but helped me understand Athena's story better.

Our girls have been fascinated with Greek Mythology for almost two years now and we read just about any book we can find on the topic. Our oldest found this book at her elementary school library and brought it home for us to read. It offers a factual and historical background for the myth of Athena as well as a few of her contemporaries. We didn't learn a lot of new information from this book, but it did provide a contextual background for us to see the foundation for the tales and allow us to compare how some of the stories we read vary from one another. It wasn't an overly exciting read, but it was informative and not too detailed and we enjoyed reading it together.

I think that it is a great Informatianal book about Athena. It tells you all about how she was borbn, her gifts, and myth things. Why do they have to have 2 names a Roman and a Greek one?i do not have schema with this book. I would recomend the book to someone that likes mythology.

This book would make a great companion to the Rick Riordan Olympians series.
