Man this short book packs a punch! Shea lost her twin brother a few years ago to suicide, now she lost her father and it about to lose her farm because she can't pay for it. She gets drunk and when she wakes up, her ex, Rian, from high school is there. She's in her late 20s now. There is more to the story but I don't want to spoil everything. He is also with his boyfriend Jai. Rain is bi, Jai is pan. They are also moth people, well shapeshifters. They have a human form, a moth-person form and a giant moth form. They are all also into bdsm.

Yes, I read a m/m/f polyamorous kinky triad involving moth people...and it was AWESOME.

It deals with grief. Despite being less than 100 pages you also really get to know all 3 of the characters. There is a huge emphasis on communication and consent. If someone says consent can't be sexy, show them this story!

It also involves first nations rep and is own voices.

I went through so many emotions while reading this story! I went from sad, to happy, to um...well the sex is hot you get the picture, to laughing, to awwing at the tender cuteness of the romance and how they care for one another, to crying (both happy and sad, the MC's first shift is really painful and graphic, but it ends on such a happy note).

The characters have depth to them, you get to know what they like, what they are like. The emotions are raw, hard-hitting and a sense of catharsis is real. And the sex is panty-melting hot.

Can I pleaseee have more of these characters?

This short story couldn't have come at a better time.

I literally just had a conversation about how many queer books demonize the ex girlfriend to prove a man’s gayness. We went on about how biphobic this approach was, and how amazing it would be if writers considered polyamory as an alternative.

So this book here? It’s exactly what I was looking for.
description
It's bi & poly ...and my faith in humanity is fully restored.

Sure, it’s niche market - but my goodness am I ever glad it exists.

We also get a splash of paranormal folklore and a diverse cast here. This is the first story I’ve read that actually uses Mothmen, so it’s really fresh and original.

Recommend to open-minded readers looking for something new!

Very exciting read! This story pulled me in from page one. I was instantly drawn to Shea, a young woman who'd lost her family and in turn became lost herself, and the world was so immersive I just couldn't stop reading. Just as Shea is about to undergo a major transformation in her life, of the paranormal sort, she hooks up with her ex-boyfriend and his new boyfriend. The love scenes are hot! It's a completely accurate representation of a real-life BDSM relationship, with the added value of the fantasy involved with the shifter world. The story was highly entertaining, and very sexy. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.

Moths are just such lovely creatures. If you've ever seen one under the microscope and fallen in love, or if you just plain like good paranormal erotica, this is a great read for you!

I loved this book. The plot was original, and I definitely look forward to the next in the series. The sensual descriptions in the juicy scenes will make your heart flutter like the wings of a moth or butterfly, and bring a warm blush to your face. Also, I am in 100% approval for the manner in which the BDSM scenes are portrayed: the author smoothly incorporates consent and safety into the scenes, without it appearing forced or contrived. This is, what I consider at least, to be a very important feature of erotica containing BDSM as literature is frequently how people are introduced to the wonderful world of kink. This story also breaks out of the usual monogamy, which is also great as functional polyamory in literature is hard to find.

This read pairs well with a glass of wine. Go for it, indulge!

Disclaimer: I received a digital copy from the author for an honest review.

Trigger Warning: There’s a few times in the story where suicide and the death of Shea’s dad is brought up. This is a heavy story in the beginning so if any of those topics bother you, maybe skip it until you are. Also, the first shift one of the characters has is pretty graphic.

“Mothmen” is a stand alone short story that takes place in Georgia. The main character is Shealyn MacConnelly, Shea for short, who is going through a lot of changes in her life, most of it heavy. Things pick up for a bit when she meets an old high school sweetheart, Rian, and his lover, Jai.

Let me talk about the characters for a bit. There’s plenty of diversity going around in “Mothmen”, something I appreciate a lot. Shea is a woman of color native, while Rian is bisexual, and Jai is pansexual.

The pairing is F/M/M and let me tell you the sex scenes are hot. R.A.C.K style BDSM and discussions of what is and isn’t on the table.

Before sex happened the characters discussed having been tested and being clean of STDs. I don’t see that often. No, that’s a lie. I haven’t seen that ever before now. Did my heart good to see it discussed instead of abandoned and thrown to the wind.

I recommend this to anyone who likes paranormal fantasy spiced with erotica.

I read this engaging novella in two sittings. The heroine, Shea, is lost. Nothing feels right for her. She lost her family. She's sort of wandering, trying to figure out what to do with herself. She's all meh about life. With the help of two hot guys, she finds herself. Turns out she's a shifter and is about to reach her time to shift into a moth. The men are shifters too. Along with some crazy hot three-way sex, they take her under their wings (pardon the pun) to show her the ropes of what it's like to shift. After she goes through the pain of her first transition, suddenly her life has meaning and she's found her place in the world. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'd love to read more about this trio.

This book is one of those books where I really enjoyed parts of it but as a whole it just didn't catch me. I liked the central characters, the sex scenes were super hot and it was so great and refreshing to see some polyamorous romance and some upfront dialogues about consent, safe sex and preferences.
But the story itself didn't catch my interest, nor did the fantasy aspects. I also found the prose itself wasn't as clean and polished as I would've liked. Just not my cup of tea, I think.

Some interesting stuff in the mythology here - I'd have liked it to be longer to explore it more. I don't often read books that are in the erotica end of romance and it's not my fave tbh, the sex scenes can be as good as you like but I need more plot and especially more relationship development before they get to the business end of things! But that's a me problem, not a book problem, so make your judgements accordingly.

Quick read but well worth it. Interesting characters and mythos, not to mention some blindingly hot sex. Pacing was faster than I prefer it; would have loved to see more of the characters getting to know each other, but a novella is what a novella is.

I don't like it when novellas try to achieve too much or choose a plot that is better suited for a novel. The 'secret' in this case is far better suited for a full novel, especially when the main character is the one learning about it. I just never believe it when those things get revealed and the protagonists fall in love 5 pages later...

The setup is very convenient and a little overexplained. Shea explains her own situation by talking to herself and, in my opinion, gives unnecessary context for such a short story. Balancing that is not easy, it did not work for me this time around.

If we look past the surrounding setup, this easily could get 4 stars.
