How could a killer have struck in a crowded theater? That was the question plaguing TV news reporter Dani Richards. She'd been in the box next to the victim--and hadn't heard or seen a thing. Now the very man who had broken Dani's heart years ago was investigating the murder. And when her coverage of the story led the killer to stalk her, police offi cer and former fl ame Caleb Jamison insisted on protecting her. Dani was afraid to let Caleb close again. Yet she had no choice. The killer's sinister phone calls left no doubt that he'd come for Dani next.

I downloaded this book based on another author’s recommendation and because of a claim that this new-to-me author was “award winning”. I don’t know what she won awards for, but I’m sure it wasn’t for this book! The amount of glaring errors was extremely distracting (at one point the main character’s name was misspelled as Lani instead of Dani) and confusing. I deleted the book from my library after having only read 24% of the content. I didn’t like the MMC at all. Maybe he redeemed himself later in the book but I thought it seemed like he practically raped the girl when she was a teen and dumped her immediately afterwards. She got pregnant and the baby was ripped away from her. When they first meet again years later he smirks at her and tells her she must obey him. Nope. Not for me. I’m hesitant to read any more of the author’s work since reading the reviews of her other books as well. The reading was stilted and didn’t seem to flow, although there were parts that seemed quite good. She definitely needs someone to do a lot of editing. Her ideas might’ve been good but her production left much to be desired.
Now that’s how you handle the premarital pregnancy trope! The contrition for the sinful act was palpable; characters sought God’s and each other’s forgiveness; they pursued making things right with one another and in God’s sight; and they rightly faced earthly consequences for their sin. Absolutely beautiful example of how to handle sin of any sort in one’s life!
The murder mystery was excellent too. The theater setting for the murder was superb. I liked that the mystery thrust together the leads who shared past history. Nothing like a puzzle to solve to unravel the tangled web they wove back then!
Lots of action with some twists and turns. During a show at the local theatre TV news reporter Dani Richards finds a dead body during intermission at the broadway show CATS. It was a young student she at interviewed. Who killed her and how? Then a stalker tries to scare Dani off the investigation and she has to call her ex-boyfriend Caleb for help. He is a police investigator on the case. Will they be able to figure out who killed the young girl and why before it is too late?
Dani and Caleb's story. (before covid this edition upgrade to past print) A past that ties them together 10 years ago. A night out to the theatre and then exposed to drama of a silent kill. Investigation brings Dani and Caleb across paths. Dani working in media and all the pressure (from colleagues and time) to bring the news to air. A stalker close by. Caleb's sister Tricia helps out and the second book is her story.
Whoever edited this book did a lousy job. At times there were several characters speaking in the same paragraph. FYI when you put a rescue dog in the story, lose him, and never include any concern from your characters about what happened to the dog you've lost the interest of most readers. Skimmed through it. Wish I hadn't purchased the second in the series. Would not recommend this book.
Such a great whodunit! The idea of a murder being done in such an obvious place but with no real witnesses...yikes! With lead characters who must forgive to move forward and solve the case, it was interesting to see how they need that out to be able to move forward into the future.
I'm reading this years after it was published. Maybe it's just current events, but based on the title, I expected it to be about a virus or an epidemic not about a reporter exposing something someone else wants to keep hidden.
The story itself was okay once I adjusted to what it really was about. It was mildly interesting to see from a reporter's point of view.
Deadly Exposure is a quick, suspense-filled read where a TV reporter stumbles onto a murder—and suddenly becomes the next target. As she digs for answers, the danger tightens, the stakes rise, and the truth hides closer than she expects.
A blend of newsroom tension, small-town secrets, and a touch of romance keeps the pace sharp and the mystery engaging.
This book captured my attention and held it throughout. The characters were fun to meet and get to know and the mystery held my attention. The outcome of the mystery was exciting and unexpected.
I’ve liked the other books I’ve read by Cara Putman but this one fell a little flat for me. The elements didn’t quite fit together. It’s hard to explain really. Just not my favorite of hers.
How could a killer have struck in a crowded theater? Dani had been in the box next to the victim and hadn't seen a thing. Now the man who broke her heart is investigating the murder, and when the murderer goes after her, Caleb insists on protecting her. Dani doesn't know if she wants to let him close again. This book shows a lot of characterization and has a good plot. These character qualities make the plot of this story suspenseful and exciting. This is about someone who is being stalked by a killer from a murder that she half witnessed. The plot of this story is about a murder in a theater. Dani approached the neighboring box, she knocked and entered. “Renee?” Dani waited a moment, the women never turned. Dani tapped Renee on the shoulder. Her skin felt cool. Dani looked down for a flash of recognition. Instead, Renee’s gaze remained fixed, a horrible grimace passed her face. The emerald scarf wound tight around her neck in contrast to the way it flowed earlier. Between the tightness of the scarf and the bruise laying under the woman's jaw, Dani’s instinct jumped to murder. Apon reading this part the reader makes a conclusion that the lady died and was possibly murdered. This shows the main plot in this story and makes this story very intense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. This story does an excellent job of clearly displaying the characteristics of each person. Dani Richards is a very determined person. “I wondered if I could look around since the crime scene guys are gone. Hmmmm. She didn't decorate much.”......”You know I can't do that, Dani.” “ I found the victim. Doesn't that earn me one look?”...... “I wish I could, but I'd violate all kinds of procedure. I can't let you disturb the evidence.” “ I only want a look around. I didn't even bring a camera.” “Do you know who purchased the tickets for Renee Thomas's box?”........ “ Yes but I've already told the cops and I can't tell you.” “Look, young man, I found Miss Thomas, and I will investigate until I find her killer.” This evidence from the book shows that Dani is a determined person who will stop at nothing until she finds out who the murder is. There's more characterization of characters that this book displays. Caleb Jameson is a compassionate and caring character. “Where are you running? I can't protect you if I don't know where you are.”...... “You can't run far enough, Dani. Let me help.” “You matter to me Dani, more than you know. Somehow we’ll work through everything.” “Dani this isn't about us or the past. It's about keeping you safe until we catch the murderer.” This evidence shows that Caleb cares for Dani and doesn't want anything to happen to her and will do anything to have them be together. These are two examples of the characterization shown in this book. This book shows how each character acts and their likes and dislikes. This book is suspenseful and thrilling because of the characters qualities and the plot. This book has good characterization and a plot that is clearly stated, helping the reader understand the book better when they begin reading. This is a great book and should be read by all people that like mystery and suspense books.
A woman is murdered during a showing of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Cats” and reporter Dani Richards is on the scene…literally, as the murder occurred in the box right next to the one Dani shares with her beloved aunt, Jayne, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The reveal of the killer isn’t the surprise here, as the author lets us know almost off the bat who did it, but rather the slow courtship of Dani and her former flame, Caleb Jamison. Dani’s hidden a life-changing event from him and both wonder if they’re doomed to live in the past with all its regrets and disappointments or if they both care enough to learn to trust each other. Caleb’s declaration of love at the book’s conclusion is heartwarming.
Reporter Dani Richards going to a play, finds a girl that she had interviewed dead at the theater. Dani runs into an old flame, the detective on the case who left her for college 10 years earlier. They bump heads as they work to solve the mystery of the fallen college student and to rekindle old feelings.
The plot is good but it reads more like a rough draft. There are a handful of sentences that just stop and parts of the story feel rushed. The formatting of this edition is also distracting [it looks like it was formatted for a different size paper].
