A Chief Executive in jail, a company in tatters A hidden facility pushing the boundaries of scientific research A deadly assassin on a mission for revenge An item of unstable technology stolen from a CIA black site A plot to make us more than human, whatever the risks A young man that connects them all.
TONY BATTON worked in international law firms, media companies and Formula One motorsport, before turning his hand to writing novels. He is passionate about great stories, gadgets and coffee, and probably consumes too much of each. Tony’s novels explore the possibilities and dangers of new technology, and how that can change lives. When not writing, or talking about gadgets, Tony likes to play basketball, guitar, and computer games with his two young sons. He lives in Twickenham with his family.
A wonderful and exciting well written story. Lots of twists and turn that made it impossible for me to predict the ending. Interesting well rendered characters. Highly recommended.
Thank you to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! You can find my full review at https://spinesinaline.wordpress.com
I don’t want to give too much of the story away as the blurb keeps it short and sweet but I’ll give you a little more to get you intrigued. This book centers around nanotechnology, which is being used by some to create dangerous weapons, and hence why it is illegal. Because of their involvement with nanotech, the CEOs of CERUS have been imprisoned though MI5 agent Stephanie Reems thinks they may still be experimenting, even behind bars. Unfortunately for her, the CIA start stepping on toes when an important and dangerous item is stolen from them, and the Russian mafia set out to seek their own kind of justice. One character is at the center of all this trouble, though not by choice, and he’s being chased down by people from all sides. While he wants to stay hidden, he’s also searching for answers and so he can’t stay away for long.
It sounds like there’s a lot going on but each part flows smoothly together. The book changes perspective quite a lot so we’re able to get a fuller understanding of what’s going on, and what trouble’s brewing. Even getting to hear the story from each of these characters, it was still difficult to figure out what everyone’s true motives were. There are a ton of twists because many of the characters seem to be playing for multiple sides so the author keeps you guessing the whole way through.
I’ve got to say, I really enjoyed the female representation in this book! I know it’s a low bar to be excited by the presence of women in a book but it’s really been quite rare in the thrillers I’ve read, especially tech-centered reads. I think authors tend to model real life in this way as women aren’t as highly represented in these fields but I’m so glad the author included them in this story. Life imitates art, right? I didn’t do a count but there are a ton of women in this book, maybe more than men, and many of them are in high-level positions.
I actually read this book without the first in the series and while I could still get by but I would recommend that you read them in order. Obviously, I still really enjoyed it without having that background but there would've been less confusion had I known some of the backstory of these characters.
The story moves quickly and with so many parties involved in this hunt for dangerous treasure, there’s lots to keep you entertained! I think you’ll find lots to love with this one!
What a great and fun read. The character ls are well defined and a great story line. Nanotechnology, what’s not to like? It brings up the big question- what if? What if a billionaire who knew tech - only knew how to succeed? Tony, you need a better editor on the second in the series (sp? And grammar to a small degree.). But it did not take away from a great read. Ok so when is #3 in this series? When does Lentz take over? I am waiting for Tom to come back? Alex... oh my.
Ok off to see what a lawyer does with a nuclear bomb in Russia🤠
I was fascinated by the idea of an interface between the brain and the web introduced in Interface, and keen to find out how Tom Faraday would put his powers to use. Resurface picks up where Interface left off, following Tom on his thrilling journey of discovery about his present powers, but also his past. Whilst many questions are answered, many more are posed, making it another action story, full of twists and turns. Fast paced and clever, Resurface was worth the wait.
Read first book and thought it was ok. Most of the characters, especially Tom, left me flat. I had hoped that book 2 would be an improvement. Instead it became a quagmire of convoluted deceit and betrayal. Tom, who I assume is the hero, is just a whiny, unlikable male figure. All that being said, I must apologize to the author for not finishing his story. It must have been a difficult task keeping track of all the nonsense in this disaster.
Interface left you wanting more..and Resurface gives you exactly that. A fast paced action packed read... Although I would like to know where Tom and Kate go from here???
Book 2 of 2: Nanites: Internal interfacing w/ computers, etc.
Fantastic read and things we may have to consider in our future. I loved reading about these innovations & would be interesting to know how far along ,in reality, the world is in actually manufacturing these things.
Being tired of violence in the majority of novels available on the market, I hunger for more. Yet great reads such as this one are few and far to find. I'm sure you won't be disappointed also.
Excellent pace and addresses some critical questions about the benefits and risks of technology in our lives. This was a good sequel to Interface and I'm looking forward to the next installment!
Numerous twists and turns and enough action to satisfy any thriller junkie. I've become a near future science fiction addict and hope Tony continues to crank them out.
Tony Batton's "Resurface" continues to turn pages and expand your thinking. I'm excited to read his next book in this series. Bravo to you Tony, keep them coming!
Really good book! I enjoyed each of the books in this series so far. There are a lot of twists and turns, and people have a tendency not to stay dead, but it's good fun.
It was a pleasant read. Nothing spectacular, but it did keep my attention. Not quite as good as the first book in the series, but follow ups rarely are.
Batton's, techno-thriller story-line continues in Resurface, A Techno-Thriller, (The Interface Series, Book 2). Tom has a featuring role alone with a varied cast of characters from scientists, MI 5, CIA, friends, and evil antagonists. William Bern's company, Cerus Biotech, is still in biotech research and production in a secret facility. Tom's trying to adapt to his changed biotech body, and his friends are trying to save the world from the evil to come. Will man become more machine than human? Can Tom and friends stop this technology and evil genius' behind its production before its is too late? Will the greed of men and governments win this show down?
Grab a comfortable seat, and read my techno-thriller novel review of Resurface. Then run out and buy this book for hours of entertainment.
CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:
Firstly, let me say, wow, what an action packed thriller. From page one to the last page, the reader's riveted to the pages as the action is fast and furious. Without pause, author Tony Batton, moves from scene to scene smoothly and gracefully without breaking the pace of the story. As a result, the reader finds a finely tuned thriller full of suspense, secrets, and maneuvering.
Secondly, although book 2 of The Interface Series, I did not find I needed to read book one to enjoy this book. Resurface is a standalone. Batton's story-line fascinated from the beginning and my interest did not lag. Glued to the pages of this action packed story, I could not put the book down. I found the author gave enough background from the first book to enmesh me in this continuing story. Although a lengthy novel, I became so involved with the story-line I barely noticed the page count.
Furthermore, the plotting was excellent and varied. With many plots and characters to bring together, Batton did a skillful job of forming a complete and cohesive book. Tom, from book 1, inspires admiration as he tries to live the life dealt by his evil genius father. I came to feel sorry for the Alex, the vicious killer without a conscience, and abhor her psychopath father. Batton skillfully developed each character in Resurface giving them good and evil ideals. Batton revealed human characteristics of greed, power, and evil, with skill and realism. The maneuvering and dealings of the varied governments, realistically shown, made me hang my head in shame. What men and governments are willing to do is amazing as Batton demonstrates.
Finally in concluding my techno-thriller novel review of Resurface, I found a solid well-written novel with well-developed characters and an amazing original story-line. Ultimate power corrupts as Batton skillfully portrays in this story. The pace is excellent leaving the reader screaming for the next book in this series.
RESURFACE RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4
In addition, I would not hesitate to buy this book for myself or a friend. I recommend Resurface for young adults and adults. I found Resurface a first-rate techno-thriller novel.
FINALLY, PLEASE NOTE:
Additionally, I received this book from the author and chose to voluntarily review the book with an honest techno-thriller novel review. Lastly, book reviews of any novel are dependent on the book review author’s opinion. Consequently, all book reviews on-line and on my blog, are my opinions. In addition, the ARC did not affect my voluntary techno-thriller novel review.
One of the things that I liked about Tony Batton’s first novel in the series, Interface, was that Batton always kept you wondering which character is the bad guy and this makes for a whole lotta fun. I am pleased to say that Batton doesn’t disappoint with Resurface. Resurface takes off not long after the events that occurred in Interface. Most of the characters that we loved and hated are back along with a few new wicked villains. Our reluctant hero, Tom Faraday, is now dealing with his new found abilities and trying to stay under the radar. This turns out not to be as easy as it seems since everyone and his brother are out to get him. Surprisingly, he finds an unlikely ally and develops an attachment that he finds rather unsettling.
Batton’s series focuses around emerging technologies that one would think are the working of science fiction, but are in fact based on a certain level of reality. Besides brain-computer interfaces which was introduced in the novel Interface, Batton acquaints us with the technology of the invisible cloak. The reality is that scientists are one step away from creating a Harry Potter like invisibility cloak. Batton takes this concept and runs with it in Resurface which should give one pause into why we would want to create something that could so easily be abused.
Resurface is filled with exhilarating action to help brighten up a dreary day. Though I would say that Resurface could be read as a standalone, it would be more fulfilling if Interface is read beforehand.
After "Interface" I thought that it would take quite something to get it better. Quite often a sequel is - in my experience - just not as good. Not in this case. Resurface is a brilliant follow up with the unusual twists and turns. There is real character development and it all gets darker and more sinister. But nonetheless....very believable indeed for a techno thriller!
The "Interface"-boy (i.e. Tom Faraday) will not be left alone. He is searching for his past, but hunted in the present by people wanting to get him for their own purposes. Can he trust other people or is he on his own? What does Bern have up its sleeve and how does Alex fit in it all? What does the future hold? Some of these questions will be answered by Resurface, but there is still at least another book out there to be written....Tony, please get writing!
Be aware...this book is a page turner and you may just get only couple of hours sleep before getting up again as you won't want to put the book down.
First things first if you haven't read Interface read it now! Tony has such a rich writing style he has a real gift and unlike some second books this one is just as good as the first! Tony starts the book off slowly so we can get up to speed with where the characters are after the dramatic finale which left me breathless and wanting more! The characters from the last book are in with some new and more threatening characters thrown in for good measure and as you might have guessed Tony has upped the technolocal anti with more surprises and great action! Again I couldn't put this down, I can't wait to see what Tony has planned next! A great sequal to Interface!
I am writing this review for Goodreads. Excellent. Action keeps moving at a fast pace. Tied to previous book but can be read as a stand alone. Interesting characters. Don't skip this book bbecause you have liomited time, the book is broken down so you can reach a logical stopping place even if you have only 5 minutes to read.
Having already read the first novel in the series, I was really looking forward to this sequel and it didn't disappoint. The story is globe-trotting, plot-twisting, technology-fuelled rollercoaster ride delivered at a pace which left me unable to put the book down - no matter what else I should have been doing. It's that action packed, I wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood comes knocking for the rights!
And, the best news is, it leaves you wanting more and so I'll be looking out for the third book in the series.
RESURFACE is a masterful design of inventive, intense mystery and intrigue. With an intricately woven, ingenious plot, RESURFACE has suspense that will steal your breath away. RESURFACE is an excellent follow-up to INTERFACE.
