Dog: An Immigrant Story

Rate this book
Pedrito's parents survived Hitler's forced labor camps in Poland. They moved to Venezuela and waited ten years for visas that would take them to America. Dog is their pet--a fierce South American rooster with a caw so deep he sounds more like a dog's bark than a rooster's cock-a-doodle-do. Dog's fierce courage helps the family bridge that gap between the jungle and 1950's America, between the horrors of the Old World and the challengers of the New World, but how can a rooster follow the family to America?

After meeting the author and his sharing of his life, I bought and read his story of his youth. His family's journey to America after WW II. From Hitler"s prisons, South America, learning all the different languages and customs of other emigrants was incredible. The love, support, and encouragement from father (and of course DOG) they were able to over come the challenges to a better life. Did learn alot about the special breed of chickens. Did not know they could be pets.
