A collection of three short horror stories written by Anthony Horowitz.
I have read several of the Horowitz Horror series over the last few months, with “The Night Bus” being my most recent read. I should add that these books are clearly written for a younger audience, so when I review it I have to keep that in mind - I am a man in my 20s after all.
I found the first story to be interesting but silly. I also felt it never really decided what it wanted the reader to feel at the end of it - I was left with questions and found myself not really caring about anything from the story. I guess straight away what was happening, and I think children would also do so. Not a very good start.
I found the second story of “The Hitchhiker” to be more entertaining, as well as more unnerving. I didn’t actually anticipate where the story ended which was nice, and I found the context given much more entertaining. A better read.
The final story of “The Man with the Yellow Face” was also an entertaining read. While I anticipated where the story would go, I was surprised at the extent explored. I think this story was braver than the others. I also enjoyed it.
Overall, a short read that would be well suited to a young person wanting to delve into the horror world. It’s not a groundbreaking read, but I found it good for a days read.
I know these are only short stories but I was hooked to all of them didn't put the book down 🙂 the night bus was brilliant it made me laugh when the conductor says what was it that took you and Nick says my dad's car I was gone 😂😁, I don't want to spoil anything but I felt like I was there with Jacob when I read the hitchhiker I was there thinking get the ******* and then by the end my reaction was on my god wow! Finally the man with the yellow face I really felt for Simon he already was going through enough. Loved the whole book and would recommend to kids and adults it was a nice light read and I will definitely read it again and again. Thank you so much Anthony Horowitz.

I read this at work, and really liked it. Each of the three stories got progressively more sinister. I liked the twist in the Hitchhiker. The man with the yellow face was by far my favourite. I was expecting a classic ghost story with this one, but found it to be much more original and eerie than expected.
3 stories to give you nightmares for the next couple of nights. I crave for horror. Heartbeats throbbing non-stop. I like the last two stories. They are very current and the style of writing is not too challenging.
A master of the short horror story. Sadly the Night Bus, the titular book is probably the worst, the Hitch Hiker and the Man With the Yellow Face are both really good though.
I was really excited going in to this book. In my early teens, I couldn't get enough of this sort of thing so experiencing some nostalgia was a very enjoyable idea for me.
I struggle to be over critical here because, obviously, this book is meant for kids but I just found the stories to be very, very silly and I rolled my eyes after each one.
Like I said, it is for kids so I guess I couldn't expect too much but authors like RL Stine write awesome kids stories. This just felt really silly. As I was reading some of the stories, I was guessing what the endings would be but they often turned out to be more cringey than I expected.
I'm not really sure how to rate this as I hardly ever read or watch horror. It wasn't enthralling but was interesting, but I only really kept reading it because I'm in the school library after my exam and wanted something that I would definitely finish before my bus arrived. So it was okay enough for people who aren't experienced in the genre or don't really like being scared but want to try a horror book, but it may be a bit tame for people who love being scared.
I haven't really been reading for a while so I thought I'd start getting back into the swing of things with this little collection of horror shorts for children. I think if you bear in mind that that's what they are, then you could have fun with these nicely written tales, which are reminiscent of the kind of apocryphal tales that primary school children like to spook each other with in the playground.
Not much of a horror at all! The charcter choice was bad and the storyline was shocking. There wasnt a strong base made from the start, not really giving this book much of a fighting chance.
