"In a galaxy far, far away from Earth there were two countries. India and Pakistan. Both countries somehow remained in a perennial state of conflict since their independence. After badly losing thrice to India, Pakistan has now come up with the ultimate conspiracy - attack the minds of the Indian masses and capture the nation. In a partially successful attempt, it captures some portion of India. The Indian Government, led by its highly patriotic PM, Narendar Mody and His Royal Highness, Arnub Gooswamy, takes charge of the situation and comes up with a master plan of defeating Pakistan, using some of India's most potent weapons - corruption, political-hooliganism and annoying celebrities. They are supported by five engineering students who, inspite of their otherwise mundane lives, get embroiled in the mess. They set themselves on a perilous journey only to discover how deep the whole conspiracy is and how dangerous are the brains behind it. Will they succeed in revealing the conspiracy to the Army? Will the lost territories be recaptured by India? To find out read 'The Bogus Read', an illogically-logical take on Indian politics, mainstream media, cinema and the television industry."
The Bogus Read by Divyamaan, it been a completely different and new to me. The bogus read makes me to laugh throughout the end. The humour genre is rare to take by Indian authors. May it could be of many reasons but major reason as I see is making someone to laugh is not an easier part.
The bogus read clears all the way with its unpredictable plot by criticizing and in the same way which could not hurt others and made to think. The story is all of fiction, about after Pakistan losing kargil what they planned? How they attempted it? Did they won or we overcomes it?
The first part is all about how India got dumped by Pakistan's fake soap operas and their intelligence of making themselves in India and making our IQ level lower slowly.
The part of it also shows how the four engineering students finds out this in strange equally clever manner, the creative thoughts of writer makes us to think somewhere even we become the prey in their nest? The Bio weapons, clowning each and everything used is possible and shows author's hard works to create new thoughts by openly criticizing Indian politics, mainstream media, cinema and television channels because of their behaviour which is looking forward to money only.
Also in the end fourth battle of Panipat, the situations and comedic way of approach writer stays with laughter.
Follows it, the characterization of each and every character college students, Modi or Arunab, wah the thoughts still makes me laugh out loud xD
The simple English and lucid lines makes content more clear even though in the start I didn't get the connection to the story but by the end the story connects with me much.
In the new ways of writing and brave enough to make the attempt to try newer makes me to more of writer's upcoming ones.
My verdict - The Bogus Read an simple humorous fun read throughout with creative flow of writing.
The Bogus Read by Divyamaan is a political and social satire. When one picks up a satire, the expectations are always high because of the sheer nature of this genre. It is supposed to be both funny and meaningful otherwise it falls flat. The Bogus Read most definitely didn't. This book had me in splits every now and then. But at the same time, it made me think about the points it raised. The problems that have been talked about in this book are presented in a hilarious and exaggerated manner but that does not make them any less true.
The plot of the book is fictional of course. It begins with a scenario in 1999 where Pakistan lost a war to India because the Indian Army applied a trick that though simple was a total genius. And then, it comes to the present time where five engineering students win the much coveted cup in the counter strike tournament only to find out that no cares which baffles them greatly. However, the actual bolt from the blue comes when they top their examinations and it is then, that they start to notice the bizarre stuff going on around them, like their college mates swooning over senseless Indian television series and not caring about their academics. And how newspapers and news channels are printing and broadcasting news that holds no importance. Then in another scenario, which is taking place on the India Pakistan border, a huge paradox for the Indian army has arisen, since Paksitan army is marching forward and Indian soldiers are behaving in the most irresponsible manner, as they are too preoccupied watching movies and chatting on whatsapp, to focus on the alarming situation at hand. Then there are the influencial people from both the countries like Politicians, celebrities, journalists and army generals whose quirks have been poked fun at very accurately.
What I loved about this book is, that it was very amusing and thought provoking, because where on one hand it was comical, on the other it was very intelligent too. Every issue that our country faces in terms of hygiene, political scenario, the attitude of leaders, the kind of news that is promoted etc has been tackled with witty remarks and repartees.
First things first: This is the most entertaining book I have read till day by any Indian author. Humor is something which is not easy to be depicted in books. I did try reading few books like Oh Shit Not again by Mandar Kokate, The Madness starts at 9 by Vinay Kanchan and The Sales Room by R T Ramesh – but this book beats them in sustaining the humor proportion and degree.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book as I could relate each sentence with the political humor, knowing a bit of Hindi ,the crazy counter strike clashes during my engineering days and the political drama that is taking place in our country. This book is more for the youth who is at least aware of the current political conditions. The more you know is better. Some people must be very curious to know how people laugh reading a book and I suggest this book to them. Author has managed to piss off or not piss off all political parties equally- a diplomatic way of writing humor. This Book is unique because it is illogically logical, Candide by Voltaire is a great one which I could relate where Voltaire ridicules religion, war, philosophy, governments, and society in general equally and ends up saying “We must cultivate our garden.” The author surprisingly made no mistakes in the style of narration. The book is so cool that if you have ever seen episodes of South park, this book for sure can be Indian South park or North park or whatever!
Though I would like to see more literary works from Divyamaan, I would await for these stories to be set on stage or in a youtube channel! Needs a genius mind to relate everything together!
The book is a satire fiction based on Indian politics, written wonderfully with utter sarcasm and wit, that makes it the best comedy book on political fiction. Oops. Perhaps too many compliments in too little space? Same is with the book: too much brilliance in the funny scenes into fewer pages.
Divyamaan won my heart. After a long time, I am actually impressed by an author's writing style and the simplicity with which he had put his ideas into the reader's mind. Every single character is beautifully written and reflects the exact idea which Divyamaan wanted to convey in the first place.
Mody using acronyms, the Wagah Border scene... I can't describe how many laughters I got while reading this masterpiece. While reading this book, I had a constant smile on my face, and I can guarantee, you too will. This book does not deserve to be missed.
There's not a lot to tell about this. Just a few words- Awesome. Hilarious. Irreplaceable. It is the best comedy book on the political theme, undoubtedly.
The narration is connecting and the language used is simple. Some prior knowledge of current political scenario will be making the read more fruitful (funny).
The Bogus Read is a story of 5 engineering students who are addicted to Counter Strike. It is about them discovering a huge conspiracy by Pakistan to take over India without the latter realizing it. Would they be successful? Are five 20-year olds intelligent enough to take things in control and save the nation?
All prominent leaders from Indian politics and media and television industries are characters in the story taking place in ‘a galaxy far, far away’. There are Arjun Kejriwaal, PM Mody and his mitron, Arnub Gooswamy, Himaesh Rechamiya and his nasal voice, the Army Chiefs, Dawood Ebrahim among others driving the story. There are illogical explanations and events including a mosquito army, but then how far does logic take us anyway. The prologue is set in the times of the Kargil War but the plot doesn’t really focus on Kashmir or the war for that matter.
The writing style and story clearly talks about the sad state of affairs in Indian politics and the economy right now. It never says it but one can easily read between the lines to see the red-tapism in the bureaucracy that is being made fun of. The corruption, the star status of celebrities, the manipulation by the media and control of the media, the TV as a real idiot box and most importantly, the lowering IQ of the human race in general.
The author carefully mimics dialogues of the real life leaders. Reading the story makes you laugh out loud in those instances because you realize that’s exactly how they would say it and that someone actually wrote it down in a comedy. Of course none of it is to be taken seriously.
The imagination of the author is what impressed me- The timings of some jokes exactly like they would happen in real life and not a movie, the careless attitude of the characters and seemingly impossible tasks being carried out with ease, and most importantly, the idea that forms the major plot of the book.
Conclusion:
Don’t expect literature when you pick up this book. The language is exactly how the youth of the country speaks today. It’s a fun read and should be read that ways. A great weekend read and travel companion it would be if you are looking for something light and witty.
THE PLOT AT A GLANCE- "In a galaxy far, far away from Earth there were two countries. To find out read 'The Bogus Read', an illogically-logical takes on Indian politics, mainstream media, cinema and the television industry." THE TITLE Someone had once said that If you are bored and disgusted by politics and don't bother to vote, you are in effect voting for the entrenched Establishments of the two major parties, who please rest assured are not dumb, and who are keenly aware that it is in their interests to keep you disgusted and bored and cynical and to give you every possible reason to stay at home doing one-hitters and watching MTV on primary day. By all means stay home if you want, but don't bullshit yourself that you're not voting. In reality, there is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some Diehard's vote. The bogus read as a title is perfect and very appropriate. Being filled with sarcasm, humour and criticism; keeping the Indian politics in the background, I feel the title is very cleverly written. REVIEW OF THE BOOK: The book made me laugh throughout the entire voyage. The way the author has described the war situation between the two countries is so hilarious, that I am still giggling while writing a review. The contrast of counter strike and going to the temple was also funny. I would also like to say that the small elements used in the story like names of the characters or the serials will add on to the trails of your laughter. The newspaper never printed any good or valuable news; instead it publishes a whole lot of advertisement. Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turn by the clean end. The more that I read of the ancient philosophers, the more I realise that mankind hasn't really changed all that much. These words from ancient Greeks suggest that cynicism and concern about the political process has always existed. I especially like the words of Plato - even today a smooth and attractive talker is more likely to get elected than a thoughtful, wise and honest person. But if we analyse the issue from a more serious point of view, we will find that this satire is quite true and prevalent now a days. What does our politician do? Or what does the media or the newspaper does? Politics is a serious business dealing with serious issues and it should be taken very seriously, and seriously intelligent people should pronounce on political matters. So why is politics such a rich source of the inane, the illogical, the daft, and the dumb? And why do politicians say such stupid things? Is it because the pressure of the job plays havoc with the mind when our leaders have to speak off the cuff? Is it because the media spotlight demands an instant answer to any problem, however complex, thereby creating a paranoia which precludes clear thought? Or is it because the bright people have all been snapped up to do other things that are more productive and intellectual, like education or law or business or stacking the shelves in a supermarket? If you want to discover more about the politics please read DIVYAMAAN’S “THE BOGUS READ” at https://www.amazon.com/Bogus-Read-Div...

The book is a satire on Indian politics, media and culture. The nonsensical story follows a group of 5 students who discover a conspiracy by the Pakistanis to capture India. They help the government to win a war with Pakistan, thus, saving the nation. The whole story is quite silly and the author has ridiculed almost every popular politician, actor and celebrity by exaggerating their real-life actions and scenarios in the book. Although the sentences are not well drafted, it maintains the level of humor throughout the story and so, it's a very easy read and entertaining too.
This book is just what it seems, a fun read. If you have the same twisted sense of humor about the Indian political situation and culture, this book is a definite must-read !
It's always a smarty move when someone tries to educate you by using humor as a chief component. Puzzled up information about the present crisis which are existing now are portrayed now so well.. Characters are so organised and organic as they are taken from real life... Narrative technique is so insightful.A political satire with contemporary touch will fill your stomach and mind in a vivid statistics..
This book is based on two events taking place simultaneously. One is from the engineering college and the other is at the battlefield.
Five friends, who almost thought that their only aim to be a student of that college is to win the counter-strike championship. But when that very day came and when they were crowned, it was not as expected for them. There was not a single SOUL to congratulate them on their success which almost broke their heart as they spent their whole four years to win this championship. And continuously, the next week they all five topped the semester exams which they almost thought as a dream. Having donated all their time for counter-strike they never thought that it could happen as most of the toppers also took back seat in that exam. And the very next day, when one of the friends goes through the newspaper of 120 pages, he found nothing useful in the paper as most of the pages where covered with silly gossips and mindless ads. But the invasion of enemy country into India occupied a box in the corner of a page. This almost triggered some doubts deep in their hearts and also the news of the addiction of college goers to saas bahu soaps added more fuel to their uprising doubts.
On other hand, the uprising battle between India and Pakistan is discussed where the Indian army men is found nowhere but were watching action movies in the underground, minutes before the battle begin. Thus it brings to the readers notice that something was at due fault in the uprising of India’s bureaucracy and also media channels.
And when the five students from engineering college start their journey towards finding the inactivity of the society and the masterminds behind the dumb minds of people of India, they come across series of troubles and finally end up in finding the underground network relation between the normal people and the army men and how soap operas have influenced them.
The later part of the story is a mind blower which should be experienced by the reader himself.
Review :
This book assures humour in every paragraph you read and also the battlefield scenes is nothing less than a patriotism filled action movie. The description of the scenes almost brings the battle live before our eyes. The author uses simple language which keeps the reader engaged with the book. The problem solving techniques of the engineering college students are not only a page turner but also makes us laugh hard at every page. This book also creates doubt in ourselves whether we had also became prey for the technological intelligence of Pakistan.
The first part of the book describes the problems in the society and the second part moves towards finding solution for those problems. The author has handled the whole novel in a comical way with a disclaimer that it is a work of fiction. His creative thinking recieves applause in every chapter and his third person narration describes the depth of every character. We all might have a doubt on the prologue as it opens up with the event at 1999 and the doubts has been clearly verified in the continous chapters.
And I clearly found nothing to remark as demerits in this book.
My views :
What if the serials you watch and the movies you celebrate are some of the cunning tricks laid by our enemy nation to make you fall for their trap?
What if the celebrities you have been worshipping till date are the duplicates of the real ones?
What if the teenagers get addicted to soap operas?
Get your answers at “The Bogus Read”. The most guaranteed book for laughter with some sprays of sarcasm. Also a good page turner which covers you within its hold until you finish the book.
If you are waiting for a political genre book mixed up with humor, “The Bogus Read” is the best choice to opt for.
This review on “The Bogus Read” is just what I thought about the book and what I felt on reading this book. But your thoughts might vary from mine.
Through this book, the author wanted to highlight the mind sets of so called Indians including us. These days we are more bothered about politics, politicians, actors and moreover, thos crazy tv serials that has taken away our ability to think logically. Not only this, a wierd imagination which sounds really absurd that our stars being kidnapped by Pakistan. There is an element of absurdity with loads of drama and mockery. I was impressed by the thought of the author, like how he came up with this concept? This book is a must read
The Bogus Read by Divyamaan (Published by Frog Books) made a clean sweep of the cobwebs of my tired, dispirited soul into a laughing machine in no time. It seems that Divyamaan has sensed the pulse of the way Indians behave and more importantly how they behave.
This parody is a laugh riot and does justice to your bone tired self at the end of the day. The array of irritating actors and the bollywood stars with their airs (the nasal and tonal kind), the non-speaking yet speaking ex-Prime Minister, the deshbhakts called AAP and the host of politicians that have special role along with our dreaded “Mitron” baritone Prime Minister as well as the soundbytes personified media houses….. all have shaped this book to a great story.
I bow to Divyamaan in bringing out the skills of each of the set of stars from Bollywood, Politics, Media and Journalism as well as Aam Junta. This author deserves a Civilian Award for playing the role of HR to the T! After all who had noticed and yet not seen the benefits of all these people before?
Ok…. now enough about Divyamaan and his superpower… what about the book?
Well, read the blurb…

I am going to watch the television and check what they show these days….. OOOPS!! I haven’t been watching TV since last 8 years… don’t know what it looks like. Is that indicative of high IQ Divyamaan?
Well the final statement – Buy the book. Keep your brains aside. Enjoy the book. Laugh. Fill your lungs with air and let your cheeks get painful with all the ho-ho-ho and ha-ha-ha. Put your brain back and shoot a review.
This is the first time ever I laughed right from the beginning of the book till the end. The book is an excellent attempt by Divyamaan where he has used his imagination to bring out the utmost irony that is prevailing in various sectors like Politics, International Relations to name a few.
The story revolves around the group of friends Ravi,Param,Rohit,Prakhar and Karan who gave more importance to Counter Strike(CS) game rather than their studies. Despite their not so good attempt in exam preparations, they were surprised to see their names being featured in Top 10 when one of the semester results were announced.
On the other hand, the Indian Army which included Major Das, Brigadier Suryakant, Colonel Chauhan and Mehta were worried about the impending threat of take over of Indian Territories by Pakistan Army.
Surprisingly The Times of Bharat never carried this news and gave a small column only on their 30th page of some 120 odd page edition which was full of advertisements and the students group that were mentioned above took a vow to unveil the secret behind it. This leads to unveiling of various secrets and they eventually got the invite to meet Mr.N or Mr.Nation who was placed about PM and The President. Who is Mr.N?
The Indian Army gets the first victory by deploying DM007 method. What it is?
The book should be read as it is without giving importance or attachment to names being mentioned in the book which would make you understand the real irony. I must say it is really difficult for anyone to pen such a hilarious story without compromising on facts and quality and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
The plot of the book is based on the relationship of two countries, India & Pakistan which happen to be on a planet far away from planet Earth. After they got independent they’ve been into a constant state of conflict which lead to many wars. After Pakistan got defeated again in 1999 by Indian troops as they used a unique indigenous solution to defeat Pak soldiers, the then army head General Musharraf sought help of a scientist to defeat India in future. Fast forward to 2016, 5 engineering students who are experts in playing Counter Strike get the shock of their lives as they begin to notice many weird things happening in their college & their surroundings, including ending up on the top 10 ranks of the college. As they realised that something is fishy, they unearth the biggest conspiracy of the century. Meanwhile Pakistani army is slowly marching in Indian soil towards Delhi & acquiring the lands and our soldiers are unable to defeat them. As the patriotic PM Narendra Mody & the supreme Arnub Gooswamy takes charge of the situation they realise that they need to use the superpowers of India (corruption, annoying celebs, etc) to tackle this situation. As their path converges with the 5 students will they be able to defeat Pakistan after all? Will anyone believe in their conspiracy theory?
I have read somewhere that it is really easy to make someone cry but very difficult to make someone laugh. I must say Divyamaan, the author of The Bogus Read is really gifted person. The book is amazing. A smile will be glued on to your face throughout the reading session. It is hilarious. The story begins with a prologue that dates back to ths year 1999 and you wonder why it is mentioned. As you read on, you'll know the answer. Each page in this story is a laughter dose. The narration is in third person narrative and is done exceptionally well. The witty dialogues with a pinch of sarcasm and adequate humour makes The Bogus Read an amusing read. I liked the layout and typesetting of this novel. Show-stealers: The five boys and their love for counterstrike tournament. The mosquito attack. The Nation wants to know sessions. The clippings of Pakistan newspaper. And many others. (Mentioning them here would make this review a spoiler.) The Bogus Read is one in million kind book. It cannot be missed. Its a page turner. Book your copies on Amazon now. I rate: Cover: 3/5 Characters: 4/5 Story: 4.5/5 I rate 'The Bogus Read' with 5/5 stars.
A political painting with right ingredients of wit and humour would definitely not fail ,Bogus read is one such .It would make you ponder and laugh simultaneously. Murky shades of Indian politics are highlighted in a vivid fashion .The read would take a bit longer than the usual books as the pages are colossal .
“The Bogus Read”by Divyamaan is a satire on the rivalry between India and Pakistan, also on the political system and the media of both the countries.
I have read in my class 4 or 5 textbooks, that making a person sad is easy, but making a person laugh is a ‘hell lot of task'(I don’t remember the exact words), and Divyamaan has done a lot of work in his book, as it will make you laugh, laugh on your bellies, laugh fisting the walls and you’ll end up, rolling on bed in laughter (RoBL)!!
Okay, I won’t give away any spoilers, but take a look at the cover. The caricatures of politicians, and media personalities. Aren’t they hinting of the contents, you are going to face within the covers. Now look at the subtitles, aren’t they indicating the hilarious puns that you are going to hurdle with in the book? Yes! Then what are you waiting for and get a copy for yourself.
You might be thinking what’s the story!
So here, take a look at the blurb:

Read it! Got the story! Okay! So here is my take on the contents, the characters, the plot and the language of the writer.
The plot is entertaining, story is closely knitted, and is good enough to force you to complete it in one sitting. Trust me, even when I had lot of assignments and home works to complete, I read the book in one sitting and I’m happy that I did. It’s worth it.
The characters are so well depicted, that you will know, whom he is referring to. The story and the characters will move before your eyes like movies, and you won’t help but smile on the silly actions. Well, that’s what a satire is all about!
The dialogues are crisp, funny and quotable. They are full of ironies, and… (Rest is a secret, you’ll get to know when you’ll open the book)
The incidents, the scenes are full of fun, laughter (that RoBL one).
To know the rest, get your hands on one copy.
This book is worth a read. You can get your copies from Amazon.in and other stores.
You can reach the author on Facebook, or read his soulful articles onTheUnrealtimes.com under the nameD-MAN. His Twitter handle is@divyamaan.
I received the book from the author in exchange of a honest review. And trust me, it’s all the same.
The book started off so well that I thought I would end up giving it 5 stars. It was incredibly funny and illogical at the same time, making some logic all together. It takes a dig at everything we come across as an Indian. It explores gaming mania of engineering students, saas-bahu serial addiction, hopeless bollywood masala movies, social media addiction , the famous /infamous AAP-BJP fight and India Pakistan relationship in a comical angle. I thoroughly enjoyed the book up to half part. It got a bit over the top and 80%-90% pages were unbearable for me, personally. The war part was stretched out and the comic content was not that appealing. From one angle I disliked the book for the lack of quality of overall story content. But I absolutely loved that , it takes a dig at everything socially and politically relevant at the time of writing the book (Before demonetization and GST). The humor was good to a large extent and at some points the book itself was turning into a cheap masaledaar bollywood comedy kind of , which is ironic considering that the book itself is sarcastic about bollywood and it's illogicality. If you are looking for a light and comical read which is sarcastic about politics and society, this book is for you.
The IQ of the people of India has taken a serious drop and that includes IITians, the army and most of the prominent decision makers of the country, the people are going gaga over Sasural Simran Da and the nationalist feelings reaches peaks when the army watches Bollywood border movies before the war. The Pakistan army has captured Srinagar and the people of India have no idea about it while the army men are busy pouting for selfies to whatsapp it to their mysterious girlfriends . Five Counter Strike victors notice the fish when they top the exams, scoring more than the usual toppers. They decide to solve the mystery of everyone going dumb and try to unfold a conspiracy against the entire nation, thus landing themselves in shit deeper than the Pacific. Will they be able to come out of it? Will the army get back to their senses and retrieve the country from falling into the hands of Pakistan? How did the conspirators manage to carry out their plan on such a large scale, affecting the masses? But then, it all happened in a galaxy far far away from Earth.
The Bogus Read does justice to it's name and is indeed a bogus read. A reader just cannot afford to miss the wonderful job that the author has done. Writing humour that makes people actually roll in laughter is a tough job and the author has definitely excelled.
The plot was a well executed one and the book was well written, making it easy for grammar nazis to rest in peace. The book has a mind blowing cover which happens to be in well sync with the plot and series of laughs start from the cover itself. The characters have been cleverly named adding to the humour. The author introduces a truckload of characters in the book which are confusing but the famous catchy names are easy to catch up with, even if you forget. The book is a take on the stupid Indian daily soaps that serve as a home wrecker and give rise to idiotic expectations from people who start thinking of hearing violins on falling in love.
The blurb of the book is too revealing and if read before reading the book, it gives out spoilers. The book uses a lot of hindi sentences which might cause inconvenience to those who do not know the language. The Hindi speakers will enjoy those. The book offers two phases to the reader, one boring phase and the other laugh till you drop phase. If you survive through the boring phase, you are good to go. The readers need to be following at least some titbits of current politics in order to enjoy the story to the fullest. I couldn't understand the last few pages where one army chased another but I did have my share of laughs.
DISCLAIMER - Do not read this book in any class. The book is so humorous that it got me a stomachache because of laughing, even before I could complete the first 50 pages of the book. I also got scolded for laughing loudly like a maniac in a crowded bus.
About the Book: Well, this one is not the regular genre that I read. This book is an amalgamation of satire, sarcasm and comedy, which is surely going to make you smile and tickle your funny bone with every page. Writing & Narration: As I said above, it is a rare genre. Generally, Indian authors tend to neglect writing sarcasm and comedy. With a tinge of uniqueness, this book contains a message. And, this combination is quite difficult to find in regular books. Title & Cover: If read alone, it is difficult for the title to uncover the clouds. But, if combined with the book cover, it definitely makes a great combination. My verdict: This book is going to make you chuckle, fill you up with various thoughts, and is definitely going to inspire you. Can you just get the amazing feeling about the book by my words? Yeah, that’s how amazing it is. After reading the blurb, you can make out that there is some crazy, insane, and funny stuff in this one and it will not fail to satisfy that fact. From commenting on politics in a non-offensive way to the thought piercing satires – The Bogus Read has all the stuff in it.
Book Hype on various websites such as amazon, flipkart, goodreads and even on youtube reviews is merely fake or childish.
Those who are looking for pure humour will end up in 100% Disappointment. As book says it is purely Fiction, it is true. But claiming it to be humorous fiction is incorrect. From starting Book fails to get a grip.
This is the book for those who has not read anything in life, or it is their first "Funny" book. Pre-teen or teen agers book. Not even a college level book. I repeat, Those with lots of reading experience will not like it.
If you still want to read it then get it second hand or go to library and have experience of it. the bottom line of my argument is this book is truely bogus book , total fail and bakwaas.
The book is a satirical take on the present political and media situation. The story takes about India and Pakistan, both countries have somehow remained in a perennial state of conflict since their independence. After getting its shameless ass kicked thrice by India, Pakistan has now come up with the ultimate conspiracy – attack the minds of the Indian masses and capture the nation. In a partially successful attempt, it captures some portion of India. The Indian Government, led by its highly patriotic PM, Narendar Mody and His Royal Highness, Arnub Gooswamy, takes charge of the situation and comes up with a master plan of defeating Pakistan, using some of India’s most potent weapons – corruption, political-hooliganism and annoying celebrities. The Indian Government also finds support from five engineering students who end up getting involved in this weird attack and they set out to find the brains behind this nation wide conspiracy.
The plot in a single word is a total laugh-fest and comes with a good dose of sarcastic humor on each page. The narration is .....Read complete review at http://www.coml13.com/index.php/2017/...
The Bogus Read by Divyaman is a political and social satire. The book blends criticism and humour to make a comment on the current political and social landscape of India. The book effectively addresses something that is happening in current India. Although the book is amusing and full of sarcasm, it successfully draws readers’ attention to a number of issues prevalent in present India. The book exhibits a variety of moods and tones with ample hilarious situations. However, while the comedy is delightful, the exaggeration blunts the edge of intended satire at times.
The book takes us to a faraway galaxy. In this galaxy, there is an inhabitable planet just like our earth. This planet also has two neighbouring nations – India and Pakistan. Since their independence, these two nations have always been hostile towards each other. After getting defeated by India in three different wars, Pakistan comes up with an ultimate plan. This plan involves attacking the minds of Indians. Pakistani government starts to manipulate Indian media (both print and visual), cinema and TV serials to reduce the IQ levels of Indians. Five engineering students start to notice these bizarre happenings in India and this unsettles them. These unusual goings-on do not sit well with them. They decide to find out the main cause behind these bizarre goings-on. The events that follow their quest make rest of the story. As you will find in this plot, Divyaman has a keen sense of observation.
The book has been successful in putting its finger on the very pulse of the nation that we live in today. The author brings in a number of contemporary events and well-known public figures into the plot. As we could relate to most of these characters, the reading experience automatically gets better. Consequently, the book not only helps readers in visualizing the events that are happening in the book, but also forces the readers to look at the world around them from a different lens. A laughing ride from beginning to end, the novel maintains a steady pace and makes it really difficult for the readers to put it down. The language of the book is simple and easy to comprehend but the dialogues could have been better. Some of the dialogues fall flat and the satire intended in these dialogues did not come out well. Deep and meaningful dialogues are clearly missing in the book. The cover of The Bogus Read is an eye-catching one. It captures the contents of the book in a brilliant manner.
The book will definitely make you laugh, in addition to shaking your thinking cap. The fascinating things about this book are certainly the messages it carries. The book has a dual purpose. On the one hand it makes you laugh by taking you on a laughing ride. On the other, it makes you reflective by throwing light on many things that are so erroneous in our world. In other words, the book is both hilarious and introspective. Additionally, the book is a quick light read and will not require more than a few hours to get through.
All in all, the book is a light-hearted satire and will definitely tickle some of your funny bones.
The Bogus Read is one book that is witty, full of sarcasm, and at the same time draws the attention of readers to so many issues prevalent in today’s India. The story is about two countries India and Pakistan which are incidentally not Our India and Pakistan that are part of the planet earth. These two countries exist far away somewhere in the Galaxy but the funny part is that you tend to find so many similarities between the two.
What is more? The characters of the book who live in the countries (that exist in the other part of the Universe) are very much similar to those who live in our planet. There is Sajed Khan, Himaesh Rechamiya and his nasal gun, the very popular newspaper Times of Bharat (full of advertisements with very little space for actual news), Rajdeep Sirdesigh, Shitsvilla and Sagarika Ghost. Well, the point that I want to make here is that the author has mentioned many known personalities but the spellings of the names of his characters are a little different. We, the readers, can very well get to what the author wants to say but yes they are different. Why? Because they belong to a country in the other Galaxy.
The author has narrated everything in real sarcastic manner and such a funny way that the readers will have to hold their stomach in to keep it from hurting from laughing.
One thing I must say is that it needs guts to pen such a story and at the same time very difficult to present it in such a hilarious manner without compromising on facts and quality. Only one thing that I did not like was the language (or some words) used very frequently in the book. Maybe it is because that is the way how many people of current India speak and it was necessary to present everything in a realistic manner. But somehow, it didn’t go well with my taste.
I loved the cover of the book though. Very attractive and apt for its content.
Overall, if you can ignore some portions of the book and some of the beep words, the book is quite enjoyable and entertaining. Recommended to all those who love to read comic books or are looking for a refreshing read.
The author tends the threads of the story one by one, tracing furrows and connecting seemingly irreconcilable facts. The result is a political novel, liquid such as our times, which can be read from a thousand different angles and contains within it many kinds embedded in one another the elements of humour and mystery, with some characteristic brushstrokes and a short flight to a magical realism.
One Liner : What happens when you mix political spoof, unending comedy, unending daily soap and amazing writing together? The Bogus Read.

Plot Spoiler :
Five boys from an engineering college, Ravi, Param and three others win the Counter-Strike competition but much to their surprise, they didn’t get the usual applaud. It was one of the most coveted trophies of their college lives for which they had been waiting for the past four years of their lives to clinch. They had given up studying, playing, fooling around with girls and other whatnots just to win this prize and now there weren’t anybody to actually see them win! This was the first of the unusual happenings. The next thing was that this group of friends, who, as a result of the CS gaming barely passed in their exams topped their semester exams, quite extraordinarily. This was the second thing that irked them. They found out that the reason for the absence of people and their degradation in marks in the exams were both due to a peculiar habit that everyone had picked up. Watching daily soap serials. We later find out this was a part of a larger conspiracy which I will not be revealing here.
Ravi then finds out that newspapers had become over 150 pages long, opening one for the very first time in his life. Almost all the pages were filled with commercials of all stupid sorts, filling the minds of the reader with utter crap. But, printed on the very last page, is a short article that says Pakistan had crossed the Indian borders and were marching into Indian territory. The Indian army hadn’t been able to put up any resistance.
At the borders, Brigadier Suryakant receives the news of Pakistan crossing the borders and invading Indian territory but meets with an unfriendly surprise. The entire army under him were watching action movies in an underground bunker instead of preparing to go to war.
The friends begin to investigate more and become embroiled in the nationwide conspiracy as the major powers of the nation are too shaken by the recent turn of events.
The rest of the story I’ll keep for the reader to read and enjoy. This is a book you wouldn’t want to miss for anything.

The Bogus Read by Divyamaan This is a Satire, Fiction novel with lots of sarcasm. This is the first time ever I laughed right from the beginning of the book till the end. He has made fun of Indian Politics and Indian T.v. serials which would make you roll on the floor laughing. This was the second funny novel I read and I didn’t expect it to be that good but it did make me laugh so hard that parents thought I was mad. Seriously! This book starts with a situation of war between Pakistan and India. The way author has described the war scene is hilarious. The strategy they’ve picked up this time, you just can’t imagine that includes Tahir Shah from Pakistan and Himesh Reshamia from India. Although I loved Himesh’s songs when I was a kid. The story revolves around the group of friends Ravi, Param, Rohit, Prakhar and Karan who at the beginning of the novel get dressed and went to the temple to pray. First I thought they must be having some exams but later when I find out the real reason behind their prayers I burst out laughing at 2:00 a.m. They gave more importance to Counter Strike(CS) game rather than their studies and worked hard to win its tournament. When the day came and their results were displayed they were shocked to see their names in top ten lists. They were expecting only passing marks but when one of them topped they become frustrated. Later they find out that everyone in their college was drooling over stupid t.v. serials. The names author has given to the serials are hilarious. After that, the Indian Army which included Major Das, Brigadier Suryakant, Colonel Chauhan and Mehta were worried about the impending threat of taking over of Indian Territories (mainly Kashmir) by Pakistan Army. They were ready to attack anytime. The Times of Bharat (A newspaper) never carried this news and gave a small column only on their 30th page of some 120-page edition which was full of stupid advertisements. The news in the newspaper is really funny. This leads to the unveiling of various secrets and the group of these five boys eventually got the invite to meet Indian P.M. They are asked to help Indian government out of this mess and story follows. The book is a work of fine satire by Divyamaan. He has picked just every other topic that is currently influencing our nation and presented it to us in the funniest way! He has used names like “Ichchadari Genda” and “sasural Simran ka” which after reading you would roll down laughing for sure. All in all, The Bogus Read is a good, light-hearted satire and is a must read. I would suggest everyone buy this book without second thoughts.
The title and blurb of the book are very apt and well done. It covers what the ‘story’ of the book is about but leaves the interpretation of it to the readers. Five engineering students get embroiled in a mess that lead Pakistan into ‘capturing’ parts of India. With familiar names (with certain changes to their spellings) popping up regularly in the book, the author narrates a story that tells us about a conspiracy that go beyond the grasp of just five students. Will the familiar names be able to handle it? How far can five students or a gang of few celebrities go?
The book brings together the conflicting elements of our reality and complete absurdity very well. It is through the ludicrousness in the pages of the book that the reader is forced to look at their reality. Though situations are exaggerated and presented in a satirical manner, it is impossible to ignore the bottom line presented by the author. The silly and unpredictable plot of the book all along points to the current landscape of our nation (and arguably that of our neighbouring nation). All the situations, including our political conditions, captured in the book are very relevant. The main win for the book is the acumen and astuteness with which it has been presented. Narrated with simplicity, the story makes you laugh throughout. It is the narration style that is another big win for this book.
Whether you want a laugh or whether you want to read a thought provoking book or whether you want both – pick this book up and give it try.
