Dagger Bearer Aldora Leoma is attacked whilst patrolling the streets. Left for dead in the bakery, Royal Official Raneth Bayre goes to check in on her at the hospital the following morning. She warns him that her attacker is the suspected murderer he’s hunting, which worries the villagers; having Jules Rivermud around with a blood-gift that can drown people could cause a lot of problems.

Aldora would have preferred it if Raneth had remained in the village after visiting her. With crime on the rise, he cannot afford to - being one of the best royal officials in active service he must go and escort King Cray to his annual Kingdoms Conference. Making matters worse, Thane Frey, Raneth’s family enemy, has seen fit to arrive in the village as well.

Without being able to rely on Raneth whilst he serves the Three Ks, Aldora leaves the hospital and watches over her village for Rivermud’s destructive presence. She’s surprised when she is rejoined by Raneth with the news that the king was kidnapped on route to the conference outside her village. Worried about what would happen if Raneth doesn’t return to the village quickly to hunt down Jules Rivermud, Aldora decides to help him find King Cray.

Threat picks up a year after The Royal Gift in The Common Kingdoms Series and sees a new royal official being introduced to Aldora. Prince Pedibastet, the Prince of Giften’s talking cats, also returns in this story for a brief guest appearance. This story will appeal to teenagers who enjoy fantasy-action tales with a dash of adventure and crime.

Wish I could read this. The first book was briefly available for download in the US and I snatched it up, but I've not been able to get the rest because it seems to only be available for UK purchase.
