It really sucks to be in love with someone who sees you as nothing more than a friend. Darcy Owens knows this from personal experience. From the moment she met Sean McKenna as a shy ten-year-old, he’s owned her heart. So when he asks for her help with an important construction project, she can’t say no.
Building a boutique hotel on Boston’s waterfront is a career-making opportunity, and Sean needs Darcy’s interior design expertise. She’s incredibly talented, and there is no one he trusts more. He knows he can always count on his childhood friend, but doesn’t know why he’s thinking about her tight skirts and blue eyes instead of tight deadlines and blueprints.
When Sean and Darcy’s excitement about their work turns into an entirely different kind of excitement, it’s a sexy surprise. But they soon realize that building a new relationship is more challenging than building a new hotel, especially when life-long habits and old insecurities create cracks in the foundation.
Jamie Hollins was born and raised in rural Northeast Ohio. After graduate school, she embarked on a perilous career in Human Resources where she met plenty of real life characters. When she’s not writing or chasing after her toddler, she enjoys reading and golfing. Jamie lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, son, and their dog, Winston.
Friends to lovers romance. Heroine in love with hero since she was ten, best friends. She is offered to assist in helping the hero in a project that he's involved in.
Well developed characters, heroine more so then the hero. Multi layered characters that evolved as the story progressed. Steady passing throughout the story with some not so typical resolutions that kept you guessing/wondering, which was a nice surprise. Wonderful chemistry between the two MC, great dialogue and heroine with some sass also (which I loved). Plot and story line was above average, but found some repetitive issue with the heroines thought process at times (insecurities).
Conclusion was nice but not great, wanted more for their relationships future.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a free ARC of this book provided by Lisa @ Tasty Book Tours and the author. Your email was godsend!
When I received the approved widget for the book, it was 2am and I'm finally making my way to bed. Of course, the email has to arrive at such ungodly hour, but it might as well woke me up from my sleepy haze because I dove right into it with full attention.
It's the kind of book that sticks out of your schedule and tempts you with the promises of a good read, just like Sean McKenna.
My stomach hurts from laughing too hard at Sean McKenna's jokes, he's the kind of guy that puts the fun into the word funny with his blatant jokes and quirky sense of humor, and Darcy is the yin to his yang. I've been waiting for this book forever (technically since October, but the months are agonizing!) and it was what I hoped it would be, I'm getting the girly hormonal vibes!
With someone as gorgeous and outspoken like Darcy, it is rather unbelievable that she still is a 28 year old virgin, but I find it incredibly sweet that she has been saving herself for her childhood crush despite how oblivious he was. I really liked the element of romance in the story, as always I love relationships that stemmed out of friendships because it is much more realistic and Darcy and Sean are just the perfect representation.
The story might appeared to be a little cliche, but Hollins' writing was engaging and kept you going. I might have the urge to mentally punch Sean a couple of times for being so freaking blind, but reading his process of realizing his love for his best friend was the most heartwarming thing ever. I also loved the familial vibes of the book, the secondary characters are all amazing!
If you are in need of a good laugh, you just find yourself the perfect read.
This is a hard review to write. Unrequited stories have always been angst-fests and they do attract me for some reason, yet only if the conditions are right—and I’m going to state right now that this review is clearly coloured by my own narrative prejudices and the hard limits I seemed to have developed after going through tons of books in the past couple of years.
Sometimes I think a pairing can’t be forced and ‘Not in my Wildest Dreams’ comes close to affirming this. It’s difficult to recommend a manwhore/virgin story, particularly one where unrequited love is involved, and most of the book is spent waiting for the idiotic ‘hero' to play catchup with his feelings.
I didn’t exactly like Darcy pining after a man who didn’t notice her—for 13 years no less!—but somehow obliviously flirted with every other ‘hot’ woman in sight for a fair bit of the book, then hated it even more that her unrequited love declaration came because of a prank Sean played on her instead of a situation where the male lead actually gets his head out of his arse on his own.
In short, this felt very much like an unequal relationship; Sean didn’t ever seem to care beyond wanting to keep his sex life active whether with Darcy or any other woman and I only got the idea that he found her was special only because he couldn’t remember wanting another woman more. He didn’t want Darcy the way she’d loved him, cared only that their friendship wasn’t destroyed after an accidental night of sex, and pretty much didn’t have to fight for something that should have been more precious to him. On the other hand, Darcy was, well, insecurely desperate enough to take everything she could get of him because he’d been her dream for so long, even when he treated her badly.
I wish I could have liked the story more; unfortunately it’s not one that I can think about without wanting to hit something thanks to a character who can be downright distasteful at times.
This was my first time reading something by Jamie Hollins and I ended up enjoying it a lot. Not in My Wildest Dreams is the second book in the McKenna series, but can be read as a standalone. The couple from the first book make quite a few appearances but you would be fine to read this one without reading the first in the series beforehand. I actually didn't get a chance to read the first book in the series, but I may have to go back and check it out after reading this one.
Not In My Wildest Dreams is a friends to lovers romance, which happens to be one of my favorite types of romances. Darcy is a quick witted girl that isn't afraid to say the first thing that comes to her mind, unless it's about her feelings for her best friend, Sean. She doesn't embarrass easily and has gotten used to being "one of the guys" when it comes to Sean. Sean is a charming ladies man, who happens to be completely clueless about the way that Darcy feels about him. He loves teasing Darcy just to get a rise out of her, and can't explain why he makes it his goal to get her to smile every time they are together.
I really loved the way this one started out. Darcy was starting to come around to the idea of being with someone that wasn't Sean because "he was never going to see what was right in front of him", but then Sean sees her flirting with a guy and starts to get jealous and everything starts to change. I really loved the chemistry that they had together. The buildup to them finally trying to make a go of it was great and seeing them trying to get past their insecurities, but I thought there may have been an area where it stalled for a while. I thought it took a look too long for Sean to really get with the picture and it frustrated me and almost made me wish Darcy would move on.
That all being said Sean really came through in the end and got himself together. I'm glad this one included an epilogue. I felt as if it really solidified their HEA.
* I received an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. *
This is a story of 2 best friends Darcy Owens and Sean McKenna. Darcy is a 28 year old virgin and works as an interior designer whereas Sean is a manwhore and works in a construction company. Darcy fell in love with Sean since they were 10 years old . She never dated anyone because she always compared other guys to Sean and since she never told Sean how she felt about him, she was forced to watch Sean date and hook up with other women.. Next we have Sean who has to deal with his own insecurities namely with his family. He always had to live in the shadow of his perfect sister Megan and was forever being compared to her. He could only truly be himself when he was with his best friend Darcy. The story starts out when Sean asks Darcy for her help with an important construction project - to win the bid to build a boutique hotel. Things start to take off once the both of them start working together. There were times when I felt like smacking him particularly when Darcy finally told him how she felt - I was like seriously?? that's how you'll react when someone tells you how she feels??? but hallelujah he finally saw the light and when he saw the light, I cannot tell you.. You will have to read the book and find out for yourself. But this I definitely have to say, I admire Darcy and her patience. If I were in her shoes, I don't think I would have stuck around that long - 18 years!! and watch him with other women? Oh hell no!!! She should have been crowned St. Darcy instead of Megan... Read the book guys! You won't regret it..
I would like to thank Patchwork Press - Cooperative, Jamie Hollins and Netgally for providing me with the ARC.
Warning #1: Due to the holiday season and the lack of Internet access, I’m keeping my reviews short & sweet. Back to the normal speed next year. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year, guys!
I didn’t realize this until much later, but Not in my wildest dreams is the second book in a romance series. Like most cases, it stands alone, but I did catch myself wondering more about the couple from the previous book (fans of the first story will be happy to know they’re featured in this one often) than the two people getting together in this story.
That’s not to say that Not in my wildest dreams wasn’t a good book. It was. But having read so many contemporary romances, and some really good ones about best friends falling in love, I have to say this read lacked a bit of chemistry.
Here’s a list of what I liked and what I didn’t about Not in my wildest dreams:
Positives: This was one of the most realistic stories about best friends falling in love I’ve read. Not only their friendship felt real— as people who knew each other since forever and had a good friendship, but didn’t walk around each other half naked or lay down together and stuff, because really, who has that kind of male friends? I’m not saying it’s impossible (I’m sure there are friends like that out there), but I don’t know many people who act like that. Their romantic relationship was also very realistic. They had normal-people problems, and that was a plus because it made it easier to relate to them as individuals and a couple. Same goes for the non-romantic plot. The whole deal with the hotel project was well-planned and interesting, and it made sense for the MC to be involved in it because of her relationship with the love interest. Like I mentioned before, the side characters intrigued me and made me want to learn more about them. I was especially interested in knowing more about the LI’s sister: the perfect human being who is clearly hiding a very unhappy life.
Could’ve been better: I would’ve liked the chemistry to have burned hotter, especially when in the LI’s POV. There were good romantic scenes between them, but it wasn’t angsty or sweet enough.
For a BFF to lovers story, what this book lacked on chemistry, it made up on realistic and relatable.
Not in My Wildest Dreams (McKenna #2) by Jamie Hollins 4.5 stars M/F Romance Triggers: Child abuse I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Sean is your typical clueless guy. He is constantly surrounded by beautiful women, but they all lack a key feature - depth. He loves his group of friends and his brother, Ewan. In fact, he's very happy when Quinn joins the group, but it makes his life seem even less fulfilled.
Darcy is amazing. She's funny, feisty, brash, smart and gifted. She has been in love with Sean forever and despite those feelings, they've been able to have a great friendship. But when she grows closer to Quinn, she wants what Ewan and Quinn have. She's tired of having someone not invested in her. With a past like hers, she has hidden scars that run deep.
Sean and Darcy set out to work on a great project together - Sean using his skills and Darcy hers. When their relationship becomes more than a friendship, Sean has a difficult time navigating these uncharted waters. Essentially, he's a mess up and ends up hurting Darcy needlessly. My heart really went out to her because she was trying to give him an out. I can understand the whole thing from her perspective.
This was a great story with a complex relationship that developed very organically. I can't wait to see what comes next!
Such a great read! I do love a story about good friends that turn into something more, and this one hit every point.
Being friends since they were 10-years old, Darcy and Sean already have a cool and automatic chemistry. The opening of the book really set the tone for how I viewed both of the characters. Sean was consistently hilarious and his jokes were just the right amount of cute and crude. Darcy similarly has a good sense of humor that matches his, but in a more subtle way. I really felt for Darcy in the beginning as she battled with her feelings she's had for her best friend since she was young. But, as they worked together on a project for work, both of them began to question what their true feelings were.
There were some awkward moments as their relationship progressed but I liked reading how they figured everything out. Overall, these two were both perfect for each other and I can't wait to read more from Hollin's!
Sean could be a cunning little devil, “you rudely did not invite me in, but I’m inviting myself. Since when have you ever had to ‘invite’ me in before?” I liked that Sean took care of his woman, "the attendant made a move to enter the room but Sean stepped into his path. “Sorry, my man. I can’t let you in because I have a smokin’-hot naked woman in my bed.” Sean is a typical male when it comes to his woman, “you know the thought of you up on a ladder kinda scares me. Unless I was at the bottom of that ladder staring up at your ***. Then the thought of you on a ladder kinda turns me on.” I loved this book, I loved Sean.
Love friends to lovers stories. Darcy was so intriguing in book one of this series that I couldn't wait to read about her and Sean. Their long friendship history was one you can truly understand how Darcy could be nervous to let the cat out of the bag, that and Sean's playboy history.
This story was so interesting and I loved that Darcy wasn't just a boring wallflower, but an attractive woman that Sean couldn't figure out why he hadn't notice her gorgeous side before. Hollins's down to earth and charming characters, as well as the history and imagery of the town of Ballagh makes this a town I would like to visit.
I am a fan Jamie Hollins writing and look forward to her future works. LOVED IT!
I received an ARC for a voluntary review for netgalley. The book was good. Poor Darcy and her love for Sean, I probably would have given up on him, but she didn't, her love was strong, and she was loyal to the end. She was a great friend, and I honestly liked her. I was a little surprised, because given her attitude or how she was portrayed, I would have thought she would have been a little stronger, but she was a great person. There were times that I wanted to slap Sean, but thank god he came woke up and came thru. And I liked Rhys, I hope we get to read more about him, he was a nice guy. It was fun to read about the crowd in Ballagh, I personally would love to visit. I loved reading about my favorite couple, Ewan and Quinn, they are awesome and I can't wait for more.
After really enjoying the first book in the series, I was anxious to see if this book would be a worthy addition. I was not disappointed! I loved Sean and Darcy right away (although I wanted to knock them both over the head a few times--which I guess speaks volumes about how realistic these characters are and how pulled into the story I was). I read this book in one day because I couldn't bear to put it down, and I wasn't bored or distracted for a single minute. Every time I thought the story would go in one direction, it went in another. This author is an incredibly talented storyteller, and I'm so glad I found her. Although most books fall into the "once-and-done" category for me, this one will go at the top of my "to-be-read-again" list. Can't wait for the next one in the series!
The second book in the McKenna series sure hit the high note on the pull at the heartstrings monitor. The characters were complex, yet totally relatable, their personalities containing multilayers of humor, sensuality, intelligence and devotion to each other. I thoroughly enjoyed the intricacies of Sean and Darcy's relationship...their nearly two decades long friendship setting the foundation for everything that they discovered about each other as they grew closer together. The banter and dialog was entertaining, carrying the story from start to finish...I loved that Darcy lacked a filter and said whatever came to mind! I look forward to the next installment in the series.

I received a free copy of this book tor read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Darcy Owens had an horrible childhood, until she came to live with her grandmother at the age of 10. On the first day of school she meets Sean McKenna. And for Darcy it was love at first sight. For Sean it was just another friend. Forward 20 years into the future and Darcy if one of Sean's closest friends. But she has loved him from day one and still does. Sean McKenna has the ultimate man-whore vibe going. He sleeps around and doesn't care who knows or sees. He is bold, self-assured in his job, and confident. But when it comes to his personal life, he is scared to death of screwing it up and making someone else unhappy. When Darcy finally spills the beans and tells Sean she loves him, he is speechless, can't understand what she is saying and it takes him a few days to process it. She tries to tell him she didn't mean it and they end up doing the deed. She gets mad thinking he regrets it but he doesn't know how he feels. Can Sean and Darcy figure out what they want? Will they end up hurting each other in the process? This story is funny at times and it will even break your heart sometimes. I loved Darcy, she was a spit-fire and didn't take sh*t from anyone. But Sean was a different kind of hero, being unsure some of the time made me love him even more. This is the second book for me from this author and I am loving this series. I can't wait for Sean's sister, Megan's story, "Where I Need to Be" due to release late spring 2017.
4 1/2 Stars! Sean and Darcy have been best friends since they were 10 years old, when he came to her rescue while she was being bullied ... and Darcy has been in love with him ever since. She has watched him be with girl after girl in school and now woman after woman all the time wishing it was her. Now, 18 years later, Sean is a general contractor and has asked Darcy for her interior design expertise on a boutique hotel he is building. After a night of celebrating (getting the bid on the hotel) Darcy cannot stand by any longer and tells Sean her true feelings. Like most men ... he didn't have a clue! Then he takes a real good look at her and wonders why he never saw what was standing right in front of him all along. Then the roller coaster begins.
This story is sweet, funny and oh so sexy! ... I highly recommend it.
I received an ARC copy courtesy of Jamie Hollins through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
4.5 stars - I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
This second story is a much more mature and polished addition to the McKenna series. Sean is a contractor running a growing construction business and Darcy, his childhood friend is the interior designer on his most recent project. This time round, both leads are definitely adults and much of the action focuses on their professional lives.
Darcy is a complicated character. I’m not sure she’s entirely the same character we met in book 1, but I love the confident small business owner much more than the brash and gossipy version of the same character in the first book. Beneath her beautiful shoes and fabulous wardrobe, Darcy hides a dark history and low self-confidence. She feels real and relevant. I absolutely love her.
Sean is also more serious than he seemed in the first book. He is an ambitious career man trying to build his business without losing sight of himself and his priorities. He values Darcy’s friendship, but working with her, he finds himself noticing her as a woman for the first time. Sean struggles with a playboy reputation and a lack of sensitivity but he is completely loveable.
These two are perfect together. They are playful and silly together and this is a true friends to lover story. The conflict feels real and the connection between them is special. I much preferred this story to the first one. While familiar characters reappear here, this has none of the new-adult feel that I struggled with in book 1. The female relationships that annoyed me first time round are missing here and instead we see a more mature and supportive relationship between Darcy and Quinn.
I really enjoyed this story and I’m looking forward to the next book.
I loved the first book in this series and was really looking forward to Sean and Darcy’s story.
Sean and Darcy have been best friends since they were 10, when Darcy came to live with her grandmother.
Darcy has been in love with Sean from day one. She’s still a virgin at 28 because she compares every guy to him and no one measures up or gets her fired up like he does. That’s a bit pathetic. She has watched him fawn over many, many women over the last 18 years. Darcy has a bit of a foul mouth, speaks her mind (except about her feelings for Sean), has a wicked sense of humor and has lots of insecurities. She was a total doormat when it came to Sean and just kept taking the small scraps he was handing her and justifying it however she could. She should not have put up with it for as long as she did.
Sean was a total douche for most of the story. He was supposed to be her best friend for the last 18 years but he knew nothing about Darcy’s life before she came to live with her grandmother. He is a manwhore, self centered and totally incapable of verbalizing or dealing with his own feelings and insecurities. I wanted to shake him so many times for being the ass he was to her on multiple occasions.
Sean is second in command at Rolland Construction. Darcy has her own interior design company. So, naturally, when Sean needs an interior designer for a big project his company is taking on, he snags Darcy for the job. Darcy is thrilled with being able to spend so much time with him.
We get both Sean and Darcy’s POV. Too much talking in their heads and not enough to each other.
I loved seeing Ewan and Quinn again. Still intensely dislike Lisbeth. Looking forward to Megan the Perfect’s story.
This story made me laugh (at their banter, at Darcy’s foul mouth and retorts), made me cry (when she finally draws the line in the sand), made me angry (with Sean‘s insensitivities), had me rolling my eyes at Sean several times, and had me yelling at Darcy to grow a backbone and demand more. That says a lot about an author’s writing skills to me. Having said this, I did not like this book near as much as book one. Too much angst and I struggled to like Sean, even after he figured it all out, because of the way he treated her for much of the book.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
4.5* of wild dreams
This is the second in the series, and although it features a different couple, it does follow on directly from the first book - which is also an excellent read - so I recommend that you read them in order.
We met Darcy in The Best Part of Me, and she and Quinn are now living together in Providence whilst they finish their studies and set up their respective businesses. Ewan is still in Ballagh running the pub, and meeting with Quinn whenever they have time. Darcy's long time best friend is Sean, Ewan's cousin. She has been in love with him since he defended her on her first day at his school, aged 10, but he has never seen her as anything other than a friend.
But now Sean's business has a chance at a new hotel project and needs an interior designer, and he just knows that Darcy is the person for the role. She is perfect for the job and impresses everyone with her skills, and makes Sean see her in a completely new light. Told from both points of view, we get to witness his confusion at the feelings he has, as she is paid attention by other men. As things het up, can they both be at the same place emotionally as well as physically, or not, and if not where will it leave their friendship? Read on and find out.
I really enjoyed the hotel business elements too, and the English connection. We also got to see how Quinn and Ewan's relationship is developing, and more of the McKenna clan. Megan, Sean's 'perfect' sister makes a couple of appearances too.
Very enjoyable read, and a hint at to what might be coming next - I am looking forward to reading that too. Thank you Ms Hollins
For Ms. Hollins' second book, I feel like she did a good job with the story, who doesn't enjoy a good friends-to-lovers romance? And even though this is the second book in the series, you don't feel lost if you haven't read the first book (which I hadn't, but plan to).
I liked how the characters were developed, but I have to admit that while I liked Darcy at the start of the book, but somewhere along the way she began to seriously irritate me. Actually, I know the exact part where I felt my thoughts toward her change: her meltdown after karaoke. Now, I'm the type of person who immediately thinks "no one forced you to go through with it", especially given what we learn about her early childhood. And the way she read Sean the riot act seemed so over-the-top. I realize her emotions were running on high, but to me her reaction seemed a bit extreme.
I like Sean's character; he's serious when he needs to be as it applies to his career, but knows how to let loose and have fun (and I want that T-Rex shirt he was wearing!). Of course he's caught off guard with Darcy's admission, so I get his reaction, it made sense to me. The fact that he truly valued his friendship with Darcy is special, but it took a visit from the one person least expected to put everything into perspective for him when it comes to his feelings for Darcy.
I always say the road to a HEA isn't smooth, but my goodness, Sean's and Darcy's road was pretty filled with bumps and potholes! I liked the epilogue, but I was expecting something a bit more with the ending to their story. But I'm looking forward (already lol) to the next book, I have a feeling it's going to be a good one.
I really liked Not In My Wildest Dreams, by new to me author Jamie Hollins. This is a best friends to lovers romance, and Ms. Hollins executes this popular trope with realism, angst, and excitement. I loved the first third of this book the most, because when the heroine discloses her true feelings, the hero seals them with an extremely hot kiss, just like in the movies. I read this book from cover to cover in just a couple of days, because the engaging plot kept me glued to my seat.
Interior designer Darcy Owens, and general contractor Sean McKenna, have been best friends since they were ten years old. Darcy has always been in love with Sean, but never shared her feelings with him. In fact, her undisclosed desires have prevented her from allowing herself to find happiness with anyone else. She has watched Sean date glamorous woman after glamorous woman, while always wishing it was her on his arm. A new work project brings them even closer together, as Sean begins to see Darcy in a non-platonic way. Overtime, they fall in love. However, their respective insecurities and vulnerabilities play incredible havoc with their chance of a future together.
This is quite an impassioned read. I loved Darcy's independence, but hated how and why she turned out to be so strong. Her karaoke ordeal is heartbreaking and feverish, due to the author's tangible way with words. Although Sean is easy on the eyes, funny, and determined, I did not care for his intermittent callousness. Darcy and Sean are two people that truly belong together, but needed a ton of time to realize how much they compliment each other. Their sexy times are hot, and I enjoyed how Darcy's innocence in the bedroom evolved into so much more. Overall, this is a well-written romance about two characters that I could not get enough of.
Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
I got me so funny moment of embarrassed shame from one Darcy Owens. She was shameless, fun, serious, and real. She knew her heart and knew what she wanted but she didn’t dare to dream it would ever be possible. Sean McKenna was a dream that was beyond a dream. It could never, ever, ever happen. That was until it did. But by them she had already steered her interest in a different direction. To say this was a surprise that Sean did not like this.
Sean and Darcy were friends for years. Darcy has seen women come and go in Sean’s life. She was just a fixture that was there. Sean was just a typical guy that saw only what he wanted to see until the day he saw more than he thought he could handle.
This was a slow rise to the friends-to-lovers relationship that I usually find. There was no looking that just said jump now. Right now. They worked together and spent more time together and things just felt right.
I did not read the first book of the series and I did not feel like I missed anything. I did however feel like I would like to know more about the McKenna’s as a whole. That would push me to go back and read book one of this series. It was something about Ewan that had me wanting to know what it was like for him and Quinn.
Not In My Wildest Dreams (McKenna Series #2) by Jamie Hollins •Reality Darcy has been in love with Sean since the first day they met when they were 10yrs old. For her no one measures up to him, but he only sees her as his best friend. But when he asks for her help with the interior design aspect of a construction job his firm is trying to land, she jumps to help! Sure it'll help her career, but she's ecstatic that he wants her to help. Sean doesn't trust anyone as much as he does Darcy! Her interior design expertise is wonderful, and he needs to land this Boutique Storefront Hotel account in Boston's waterfront area. He knows he can trust her to get the job done right, but what had changed in her? Something's different but he can't figure out what it is. Will working together bring them back together as close friends or will it end up hurting their friendship? Will Sean ever realize how Darcy feels, and if he did will he ever reciprocate those feelings? You're gonna have to read NOT IN MY WILDEST DREAMS top find out, but Darcy and Sean have some pretty funny banter fights between them. What a cute but emotional romantic love story that eventually ends in a HEA. Although this is Book 2 of the series, I didn't feel as though I was plopped into the middle of a story and lost. However I did go back and purchase Ewan and Quinn's story~The Best Part Of Me (McKenna Series Book 1) and I'm looking forward to reading~James and Megan’s story in Where I Need To Be (McKenna Series Book 3) that'll be out spring 2017. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book via Tasty Book Tours through NetGalley for an honest blog tour review
This book has taught me a very important lesson; Don’t judge a book by its cover. Just because it has a rather spectacular set of abs featuring, it doesn’t mean that the contents will be just as enticing. You think I would have learnt this by now, sadly…abs are my weakness and I have been shamelessly exploited. I’m exaggerating slightly, every now and then I decide I’ll try something outside my comfort zone and attracted by the deliciousness of the cover, I decided this would be my book to try. Sadly on this occasion I quickly scurried back in my zone before I expired of boredom.
As you can tell, I kinda didn’t like this book. I didn’t hate it, it didn’t offend me, but everytime I picked it up to read I felt like I was slogging through it, rather than reading and enjoying it. It just didn’t capture my attention, even writing this review I am struggling to remember exactly what happened, who the characters were and why I didn’t like it. Sadly, I just get a vague buzz of disappointment when I think of Not in my Wildest Dreams rather than any details.
It’s safe to say that I won’t be reading any more of this series and I would have to give serious thought to whether I read any more books by the author. However, it does look very pretty in my kindle.
Darcy has been in love with Sean McKenna since she was 10. Sean , on the other hand, is clueless about it and has only considered Darcy one of his best friends for the last 18 years. Sean is now a general contractor, and he needs Darcy's interior design skills for a big project. It is their first time working together professionally, and they get to see another side of each other.
Working together makes Sean look at Darcy in a whole new way. She is no longer that little girl anymore, and Sean really isn't sure how he feels about it. As for Darcy, she isn't sure how she will end up spending so much time working with Sean without spilling her secret.
This is the second book in the McKenna series, but it definitely can be a standalone. I did not read the first book, and although I would like to read it, I didn't feel confused at all starting with this book instead of the first. I thought that the characters and the story were great. I liked the chemistry between Sean and Darcy. I would give this book four stars.

ARC Review: Not In My Wildest Dreams (McKenna) by Jamie Hollins
Not In My Dreams author Jamie Hollins, just may be my secret girl crush. How am I just now discovering her work. The McKenna series has become my new guilty pleasure. Not In My Wildest Dreams has enough testosterone to short circuit any woman's estrogen levels. Sean is a walking fantasy with his panty dropping smile and playboy charm. He can blend in with the boys as easily as he can hang out with the girls without missing a step. Darcy has the dirty mouth, sensitive heart and group of friends that some people only dream about. Yet her heart's desire has always been out of her reach. Or has it? What's a girl to do when the cause of her most embarrassing moments worms his way into her heart? Give in of course. There were a couple of tears along the way, but the smiles far outweighed them in the end.
Received book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a lovely read with a good foundation story. Few discrepancies regarding Boston and the surrounding areas, but if you aren't a local, you won't realize. Darcy was a wonderful character from the beginning, kind and warm. Sean was funny and engaging. There was quite a bit more angst than I expected but it worked for the most part. This was the first book by Jamie Hollins that I have read, and I think I will go back and read the first book. I didn't feel that I missed out not reading the first book though.
Loved this book it was a super read i just love friends to lovers books and this one was really good.I really liked Darcy and Sean story just love that she had a mouth like a sailor and that he had his own insecurities as well a great read.
Not in My Wildest Dreams by Jamie Hollins Book #2: McKenna Series Source: Netgalley and purchase My Rating: 5/5 stars My Review:
Holy Hell!! Darcy Owens is a woman after my own curse word laden heart!!
Since she was ten years old, Darcy Owens has been in love with her best friend, Sean McKenna. For a decade, Darcy has sat aside and watched as Sean has dated his way through the greater Boston area without ever stopping to look and see the woman right in front of him. Knowing Sean is dense beyond belief, Darcy has satisfied herself with simply being his foul-mouthed, hilariously blunt, always there when he needs her, friend. Yeah, it sucks being friend zoned.
Sean McKenna is the consummate good time guy. If there’s a party to be found, a beer to be drunk, or a woman to be hit on, Sean is there. While he may play harder than most, Sean also works hard. Sean has dedicated his life to building his contracting company and making it nothing short of a roaring success. He works with a partner (who is also a mentor) and between the two of them, they are ready to tackle a huge, reputation making project. If Sean, his partner, and the company are going to pull this off, they’re going to need an interior designer and Sean just happens to know one.
When Sean brings Darcy into the hotel project he finally begins to see her as something more than his forever friend. Trouble is, he still isn’t quite seeing her as a woman, but as a girl who has some really cool skills he needs to get a job done well. It isn’t until another man on the project starts sniffing around Darcy that Sean finally opens his eyes and gets a mind-blowing look at the woman before him. What he sees scares the holy hell out of him and he must make Darcy his. All he must do is overcome several problems including: 1) Darcy’s emotion-laden speech laying out her precise feelings for him, 2) her not telling him about being a card-carrying member of the virginity club, 3) the whole “what if we wreck our friendship” problem, and 4) Sean getting the hell over himself, being a man, and owning up to his feelings for Darcy. Should be simple!
The Bottom Line: Darcy makes her big, bold, sassy presence known in The Best Part of Me and just rolls on in bigger, bolder, and sassier in Not in My Wildest Dreams. Since they were ten years old, Darcy and Sean have been perfectly paired. They have always been there for one another, always supported one another, but never crossed the line from friends to lovers. Darcy doesn’t push the issue until she is forced to and Sean is just too dense to see what’s right in front of him. Though the struggles these two go through aren’t pretty they sure do strengthen and solidify Darcy and Sean as a couple. In fact, I think as the series moves forward, these two are going to become the center of the group and I am all kinds of excellent with that scenario. Onward and upward, Jamie Hollins. I’m ready for the next book in the McKenna series.
Quinn was Darcy’s roommate.they were having their monthly girls night with Mallory and Jesse. Quinn was with Evan and had been for the last year. Then Evan and Sean came in - they were cousins. Sean and Darcy were best friends but Darcy had been crushing on Sean for years since her first day of school in Ballagh. Darcy had seen all of Sean’s tricks and moves but only from the sidelines. Sean was the reason Darcy was still a virgin at twenty eight years old as no man seemed to match up to Sean. Darcy had just finished her graduate degree. Sean was a partner in a general construction firm for some reason Darcy looked different to Sean when he seen her. Darcy had started a design firm but so far she had only had two small jobs. Then Sean told her that his company was bidding on a project that needed an interior designer and he wanted to offer her the job. On her way to Boston Darcy stopped to see her grandmother and her best friend Mary Mcphee or Phee who shared a home Darcy had taken a bus to her grandmother's when she was ten. When Darcy was ten she seen a kid being bullied stuck for the boy being bullied so the bully started on her then Sean stepped in and defused everything by his humor and wit. He had been Darcy’s rescuer and that had started everything. Darcy’s parents had dragged her out at the age of three to sing for tips. Darcy swore she would never sing in public again. Darcy’s parent would rather spend what money they had on getting high rather than feed their daughter. Darcy was excited about the project Sean had told her about. Darcy had two in a half weeks to come up with the interior design for the project. Sean loved to make Darcy smile that big true smile she had. Sean ended taking Darcy’s virginity but wasn’t very happy she hadn’t told him she was a virgin. Darcy thought she had done something wrong and Sean hadn’t enjoyed having sex with her. I really enjoyed this story it was predictable yet it didn’t take away from the story. I liked how Sean thought of Darcy for the project for his company. He had faith in her. This was a very enjoyable read with a good plot. I felt bad how Sean was so busy when his partner took a vacation that he didn’t seem to have time for Darcy and she felt he was taking her for granted. I thought it was sweet that Darcy thought Sean didn’t enjoy being with her sexually when actually he was overly excited and didn’t last long. I also loved how he acted so jealous but didn’t realize what he was feeling. All all a good story , loved the characters and the ins and out of this story and I recommend.
