“Be careful what you say. Words have power.”

Kady can’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t hiding. From someone or something, but she’s never been sure the cause of the secrecy. Auntie, her only companion and the only person she trusts, says that words have power, and she can’t tell Kady what they are hiding from. Only that the two of them must stick together and stay under the radar.

When Kady awakens in the middle of the night with her house crumbling around her, Auntie hustles her into the night and tries to protect her -- through words, magic words.

While Auntie succeeds in hiding Kady, she falls victim to the mage who has been searching for them the past 10 years. Kady knows that she must find her aunt and save her. But will she be able to tap the power trapped within her to do it?

This is part one of a four-part series. Kady's story continues in subsequent books.

I really enjoyed this book as it is such a great start to the series. It's quite a short read but it is filled with detail. It wasn't hard to get into; it had me hooked from the very start. This book is very unique and I've not read anything like it before.

It is set in Egypt and the main character is a young girl of fourteen who lived a normal life in a bakery with her Auntie. She was very happy until one day chaos happened. She had to take responsibility as she was the only one who could make things go back to the way they were.

I didn't have a favourite character as they are all amazing. They made the story what it is; the way all the characters are written is really important to the storyline.

I loved it so much that I asked my mum to get me the rest of the series. I can't wait to read the rest of them and more by this author. I definitely recommend this book.

I quite enjoyed this story. It captivated my attention from the start, and I loved that even in the quiet moments there was an undercurrent of tension that propelled the story forward.

The worldbuilding was fascinating and quite rich for a shorter length story, and I could picture everything very clearly.

A strong start to a promising series!

Magical story

This story is about the war between good and evil. This is the beginning of a story arc about a little girl and her magic.

The opening short story in the Prophecy of Light series, Trapped, set up a magical world I consider promising.
Kady is a teenage girl, small for her age, with bound magical powers. Raised by her aunt, she lost both parents at early age and is constanly on the run, hiding from dark mages. Settling down for two years in Halcyon, the leader of dark mages discovers their location and kidnaps Auntie, desperate to catch Kady as well for her extraordinary powers. But she only starts to discover her magical abilities and the need for proper training.
The introductory story is very well written, quite fast-paced, but it is only the opening so there is not so much of character development. The plot contains some twists, but I expect more development and action in the next installments as this is basically the setup. I am curious about the future situations and character personalities, as much as about Kady´s powers and the nature of the magic. Trapped caught my attention and I will certainly volunteer to review also the next books in the series.

This was a quick, and easy book to read. It sets up nicely for the rest of the series. It introduces the main characters and creates an interest in finding out answers to plotlines. I already have a theory about the antagonist in the story. I am also interested in finding ding out how well the heroine of the story manages with her challenges. If you like a story with magic, and with an interesting twist, this is a really good starting point. I did receive the e-book free from the author as an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

An interesting start to what should be a good series. It's a shorter read than I thought it would be, but it leaves you with a well paced story. I'm keen to find out more about what lead to the choices made by other characters. It would have been great to learn more about the way magic works in the world, but leaving it for the training that Kadey will be getting in book two allows for a more inclusive way to learn about it.

This is a very different read to Scented, by this author. Something which I'm glad for.

*I'm a lucky fish, and received the book in return for a review.*

Greed does awful things to people and when those people are Magen, people with magic in their soul, well the greed just is so very very devastating to those that want to do good.
With both parents killed Kamiah ' s aunt fled with the child that the former Alab, Zygam, or teacher, to that same child, now the person who lusted after the power the child obviously possessed. Only by binding both her memory and her ability to weld power were they able to remain hidden.

This is very good start of the series. It is about the fight of the light against the darkness. There is "Prophecy of Light" and mages and magic. The main heroin Kadirah must somehow cope with it all. It reminds me City of Bones or books like that but without romance and for a little bit younger audience. And I have a theory about Kadirah a Zygam but no spoilers here. The end of the book is closed enough but sufficiently thrilling to be wondering what´s next.

An intriguing story that I really enjoyed. This was the first installment in what will be a series of short stories, so hopefully there will be more development of the mages Zygam and Pylum, more backstory, and more about the magic and how it works in their world. I am looking forward to learn more in the next chapter.

This was such a great fantasy series. I loved all the magic, fights and mystery. Can't wait to read the continuation and see Kady get her powers back. The evil mage will be paying for all the turmoil he has caused Kady. Let the light bright shine in good and not evil.

A great story with twists, adventure and ... wait for it ... No Romance! As much as I love the romance in most stories, this one is actually better without it. I do believe this is the beginning of a wonderful series!

Kady and her aunt have, it seems, always lived a nomadic life. They are fleeing some unknown, dark force, which her aunt will never name, because ‘words have power.’ When Kady is awakened one night by some force destroying their home, her aunt uses magic power to spirit her away to safety, while she battles the dark mage, Zyam. Alone, and seeking to rescue her aunt from the dark mage’s clutches, Kady learns from the dwarf mage, Pylum, that she, too, has magic powers, but they have yet to fully awaken.
Prophecy of Light – Trapped by R. J. Crayton is the opening salvo in a three-part series that introduces Kady as her powers begin to manifest themselves. This story is short, but powerful, and does a masterful job of setting out the characters, their histories, and the obstacles they must overcome in order to prevail. The author has built a credible world, and peopled it with characters the reader will have no trouble relating to—either to cheer on, or to jeer at.
