Gigino & Co: Go to Town

Rate this book
This is the first book of a fantasy series with no magic at all. Depending, of course, on what you believe magic to be.
For anyone who has been wondering how God works, this is the novel for you. It gives a brief insight into the effects of believing stuff. Of course, in the spirit of all fantasy novels, call that Gods, plural.

Gigino the gnome and Lilith rarely agree, but they've only ever really had one argument. Only one really big one, ever. It started when they met, and it still hasn't finished.

Gigino & Co Go To Town is a story of airships and amusing noses, Goblins and Heroes, Kings and Kingdoms.
The legend that is Lilith The Fighter has come to Freeheaven at a bad time. A mighty Goblin horde has besieged the town and will stop at nothing to get in. What ensues is a deadly war of wits between the Goblins and the people they have trapped.

These are my first reviews. Written by my friends from the start of this journey.

“So... this chick named Lilith... she kills people! And this gnome, named Gigino, he helps... but not really... it's more of a business arrangement.. So, they're friends... mostly. There's goblins, creepy guys, knives, explosives, airships, and goblin high warfare! What could go wrong? Oh... what's that? You need a goblin to find the range of their archers? Don't worry, just count the punctures in their rump! And there's monks and a master magician without any spells! Yep... and that's just one afternoon.”
Storm Dancer.

(The last bit of Storm Dancer's review refers to the second book, so, not quite in an afternoon, unless an afternoon takes five minutes.)

“A gallery of characters that you will not soon forget!
Those characters, whether primary or secondary, are so well portrayed and hilarious ... Quick Action and lively dialogs will accompany you throughout your reading!”
Thyana Furyo.

“Banters between Lilith and Gigino as well as Goblins antics and culture had Oona in stitches more dan once ! A terrible foe indeed !
Gigino is an inventor and has all sorts curious things in hims backpack ! Lilith is a warrior dat all men, cept fer Gigino fears.”
Oona Sharple.

"T.J. Mizin, follows in the footsteps of George R. R. Martin, and Terry Pratchett. Fusing their narrative styles into a literary form uniquely her own. A veritable tour de force of the genre."
Raena Talash.

The name Mizin comes from my Second Life Avatar, which is where this whole adventure started. I wanted to see if I could write a book, and so did my friends, many of whom wrote the reviews you just read. I would like to particularly thank Hawk Clayton who has been with me from the first imaginings of this project and prodded me into doing things that, otherwise, would not have got done.

I chose the name “Mizin” chiefly because it has a “Z” in it. I once called a cat I owned “Topaz” for similar reasons. What other letter is cool enough to go right at the end of the alphabet? People think “A” is cool, but “Z” is just cryogenic. There's also “Baron Zevarion” but he's in the second book (soon to be published), so I won't tell you any more about him here.

This is deliciously silly, but thoughtful too. It has some great characters and story arcs and cheerfully meanders between them with updates to all guaranteed within a few pages. The ongoing argument between the two main characters grinds on endlessly and hilariously as each tries to outdo the other. The ending is perhaps given away a little early, but the build up to it is quite satisfying.
I did get the impression of a community banding together under siege and this is represented by little subplots and happenings as their status quo is challenged by the goblins.
Lilith is as adept at killing as she is grumpy, a real antihero. Gigino is clever and caring and deliberately annoying.
Give it a look if you fancy a chuckle.
