USA Today and Amazon best-selling author Anna Lowe loves putting the "hero" back into heroine and letting location ignite a passionate romance. She likes a heroine who is independent, intelligent, and imperfect — a woman who's doing just fine on her own. But give the heroine a good man (not to mention a chance to overcome her own inhibitions) and she'll never turn down the chance for adventure, nor shy away from danger.
On any given weekend, you might find her hiking in the mountains or hunched over her laptop, working on her latest story. Either way, the day will end with a chunk of dark chocolate and a good read.
I voluntary and honestly reviewed an arc. I'll keep updating as I go... Gambling on Trouble 3 stars A sexy yet very short story. Before I could really get into it, it was over. I'd love to read more about what happens to the characters as I do love me so sexy shifters.
Vampire Picnic 3 stars
Another short story but the author did explain that it was a sip of the characters and that's what it was. It was short, sweet and fun. A real vampire come to life.
Roman Nights 4 stars
I really enjoyed this one. Although short like the others I was able to get into it more and there was not only action and danger but also some romance as well. So far this is my favorite one plus it was a little something different with sirens that was cool.

This little short story has me drooling for Gambling on Her Bear, Book 2 of the Shifters in Vegas series. Ok heck yea I recommend this book I need Book 2 NOW... Please. Karen Proulx is a Dragon Shifter, who came to Las Vegas for The Blood Diamond. She here to reclaim the gemstone stolen from her dragon kin long ago. But than as usual something happens!! Tanner is a Bear Shifter from Idaho and works in Las Vegas for Security at the Scarlet Palace. He was there for his Clan, just weeks away from taking care of business. Scarlet Palace was a dangerous and corrupt casino. He doesn't need this distraction. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Title: Vampire Picnic, Ravenscroft Author: Katalina Leon #3Stars☆☆☆ Ms. Katalina sure has things jumping that for sure. Cute little story. Camdyn aka: Cam is a thirty-seven nurse at Seacliff Memorial Hospital who works the midnight shift. Tonight has been a ruff night too, constantly on her feet running back and worth because Elvis was in the closet singing. Even worse things that are accounted for were missing. Finding the thief was an eye opener. Rory Ravenscroft is a Irish born Vampire who was attacked and need blood right away. So what better way than a hospital. Being attacked by another Vampire in his territory was not going to go unnoticed. But while getting his bag blood he got more than he bargained for. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Title: Ghosts of Desire Author: Michelle Fox #4Stars☆☆☆☆ Don't just love All the Things That Go Bump in the night this one was good I enjoyed it not all these little stories are very short. Cassandra aka: Cass is doing a favor for her friend, Kelly who loved ghost hunting and a show named ‘Paranormal Mom’ wanted to shoot an episode on Halloween night at a abandoned prison. But what he got was something else. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Title: Max Author: Crystal Dawn #5Stars☆☆☆☆☆ Now this was really good. Yep I loved it. It is definitely a MUST READ. Maxine McCallister aka: Mad Max or just Max was human working for the military actually her whole family worked military. Most of her team were supernaturals. Max missions were to find a hidden lab rural area around Kingston, Arkansas. But the lab was empty but one person. Adrian Wolf is the Packs Alpha from North Dakota. Hopefully he was still Alpha after being a prisoner who was drugged, tortured, cut open and heaven knows what they did. Gambling on Trouble (Charmed in Vegas #0.5) by Anna Lowe
If you've read Gambling on Her Bear, part of the Vegas Shifters series, then you're familiar with Tanner and Karen. We know from that story that they previously met a couple weeks ago, recognized they're mates, and had an intimately hot time together, then Karen believes he stood her up for their second date.
This novella let's us see their initial meeting, from Karen first arriving in Vegas, determined to steal the Blood Diamond and return it to its actual owners...the dragons. Karen is wandering Vegas when an intoxicating scent calls to her, making her track down the source of it, leading her to Tanner.
Tanner, counting down the days until his job is done so he can return to Idaho, is immediately drawn to the woman watching him. It doesn't take long before he realizes she's his mate and he eagerly follows her wherever she wants to take him.
Suddenly, these two see a different future than the one they've always envisioned for themselves, one that now includes each other.
Will they get their HEA? Will Karen be able to complete her reason for being in Vegas? Will Tanner understand why she's doing it? Can he accept both sides of her heritage? Will Tanner survive Vegas for a few more weeks until he's able to leave? Will Karen go with him?
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
All I can say was this was a great hour and roughly fifteen minutes of wonderful stories by Anna Lowe, Julia Mills, Michelle Fox, Amber Ella Monroe and Katalina Leon !! Theirs were all 5 ☆'s !! Monica LaPorta and Debbie Hebert entertained with two 4☆ reads that were definitely worth reading. The only 2 slightly weak links in my opinion were Crystal Dawn and Vivienne Savage's and they were good, just not great so I rank them at 3☆'s I recommend this anthology to any Paranormal lover !! I would recommend being 18+ due to a few scenes of graphic nature. I received a gifted copy and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review. Anot all over score of 4☆'s !!
Quick Read! It ranges from naughty to nice and features paranormal elements, ghosts, shifters, reapers, Oh My! I really enjoyed Changed by Debbie Herbert, as it was quick story about Andrew; a character featured in her Appalachian Magic Series. I've read all of those, so I loved getting that little tidbit! The other stories were pretty interesting, I was particularly surprised by the erotic ghost story haha. I don't normally read books with that content but it was fun and I went with it. I read it one afternoon, so it's a great pick for those who don't have a lot of time on their hands.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this advance reader copy and was not compensated in any way. I really enjoy reading the boxset. Changed was really enjoyable I loved the characters and plot.
Gambling on Trouble - Anna Lowe OMG! What an introduction to two wild and crazy characters! I absolutely love the way this played out even though I have already read their story. I would recommend that you read this one first of course, but either way, it’s an awesome tale. Karen is in Vegas on a mission. She feels the need to redeem herself with her clan by retrieving the Blood Diamond, a jewel that was in her family’s possession for many generations, only to be “stolen” in a raw deal. Tanner is Vegas for an unknown agenda, his plan all in his mind, and reasons only he knows. While walking down the street, Karen is suddenly overtaken by a scent that only her dragon recognizes…what would appear to be her mate. But dragon’s don’t believe in Fate and Fated Mates. Unable to control her own movements, she follows the smell into a bar, only to find the most hunky of hunks sitting on the barstool at the bar. And, if her sense of smell is correct, he’s all bear, and of course, all her’s. As soon as he scents her, he knows. Slowly turning around, he not only scents her, but as soon as his eyes lay upon her, he’s positive. She’s all dragon, and of course, his. As both try to resist their mating call, neither wanting a mate quite yet, because of their hidden agendas, all hell breaks loose when a gaggle of show girls show up and pounce upon Tanner. Karen’s dragon simply won’t tolerate these women touching her mate. Lots of action in such a short tale, that you will want to make sure you don’t miss out. It’s true what they say, small packages pack a powerful punch, and this small tale is sure to not disappoint.
Vampire Picnic, Ravenscroft – Katalina Leon What a wonderful short tale this is! As Camdyn finally gets a chance to sit and take a break from her very busy night shift as a nurse, she finds herself deeply enthralled in her book, all about a prince of vampires, when her friend and co-worker, Manu, comes up behind her and scares her out of her seat. But, something strange has been going on throughout her shift, and it would seem, it’s not over yet. When she comes across Rory, she’s not sure if she’s lost her mind or not. But, Rory needs help, and he’s picked her to help him. Will she? I absolutely loved this book, and hope to read more about Rory and Camdyn in the future.
Roman Nights – Monica La Porta Valeria has travelled to the unknown territory of Rome with the hopes of finding work modelling, thanks to the encouragement of a stranger she met over a year ago. But she is soon to learn that not all is as it seems. With all of her saved money having been given to the modelling academy that doesn’t exist, she finds herself wandering the streets, hungry, and looking for work. When she is directed to “the Promenade” to seek work as a waitress in a bar, she finds herself amongst the unknown, the paranormal. But can that be? Max is out strolling with his friends when they happen upon a young girl, a human female. But she is not a normal human, as Max is about to find out. He knows he must protect her at all costs. What will happen to them? Will they be discovered? A well written short that will have you wanting more from this couple. Well done.
Ghosts of Desire – Michelle Fox A beautiful tale of time travel of sorts and a lost love, this book will have you in tears, as we follow Andrew and his journey of heartbreak after being condemned for a crime he did not commit. Cassandra has agreed to help out her best friend with a project she is working on for television, but not voluntarily. Known for her fear of the dark, she finds herself watching the equipment at the edge of the dark prison while the others hunt for ghosts. Spooked by bats, she runs off in the wrong direction, taking her further into the prison, only to be approached by a ghost. Who would have figured! Will she survive the ordeal. Will Andrew ever be able to join his beloved Mary in the afterworld? Such a heart warming story you won’t want to miss.
The Day Shift – Vivienne Savage A little bit on the different side, this short will have you hot and bothered in no time. After almost two years of crushing on Adrian, Emmaleigh finds herself spending a shift with him, just the two of them. But what she doesn’t know is that the crush seems to be returned. Spend a shift with these two and you’ll never mind those long, lonely shifts again. Awesome short.
Be Afraid of the Dark – Marissa Farrar While not my preferred genre, this well written tale will have you questioning all things that go bump in the dark. Lexi is off on exploration of sorts with her best friend Michael, her nemesis Alyssa, and her secret crush, Dylan. Sent into the bowels of a deserted mine where six miners, a woman and two children, disappeared a hundred years ago to discover a story for the school paper, not only does she have to deal with her fear of the dark, but trying to put on a brave face so Dylan won’t think her juvenile. But when the unexplainable starts to happen before their very eyes, fear sets in and both Lexi and Dylan know they have to tell the other how they feel. The only question now is…will they make it out alive? And if they do, who will ever believe their tale?
Vidalia: A “Not-Quite” Vampire Love Story – Julia Mills Quaint and humorous, this short will have you rolling on the floor and all hot and bothered right after. The author has taken the mundane and created a wonderful, cute story you won’t want to miss out on. The characters are funny and lovable all rolled into one, and having the story narrated by the heroine gives it a bit of an unexpected twist that you’re sure to love.
Changed – Debbie Herbert This cute short gives new insight on the Grim Reaper’s ways as Tara tries desperately to complete her mission to have the “curse” lifted from her in the shortest time possible in order to be able to return to the only man she loves. But Andrew, unaware of the whys and hows of her ordeal, even though he loves her like no other, isn’t sure he will be able to continue being with “the witch”. Will it all work out in the end? Great tale!
Festive Seduction (Wolf’s Temptation) – Amber Ella Monroe What an amazing introduction to the pair of Dawson and Alessia. This couple will have you salivating in no time, as the author takes us through their mating, as Dawson finally claims his fated mate. A fast-paced but captivating short you won’t want to miss. I look forward to reading more of this couple and the Caedmon Wolves series.
Max – Crystal Dawn OMG! Hot and steamy, this short prequel will leave you wanting more! Lots more of Max and Adrian. Max is on a mission, and when she finds Adrian in a cell on the verge of death, she knows she has to do what it takes to save him. A huge dose of action in this fast paced short that will have you drooling while we are left hanging to discover just what happens with this duo. A great read!
The Mate that Got Away – Kate Rudolph A beautiful tale of love recovered after almost a decade, this tear-jerker will have you rooting for Daphne and Kieran, as they reunite quite by accident. But then again, Fate always seems to have a play, and a bus breaking down just outside her hometown would seem like a perfect way for Fate to make her play where it came to this pair’s lives. Well written and easy to follow, a charm of a story you won’t want to miss out on.
Big Bad Wolfie – Sedona Venez A soft BDSM story with a twist, this tale will have you wishing you were there. Skylar, part fae, part witch, plans an awesome night out with her mate, alpha wolf Aiden, at a costume party at the home/club of one of their friends. What she wasn’t counting on is the trouble that seemed to find her, but her mate more than made up for that after. Short but sweet, this story will have you panting in no time flat.
A Violent Seduction – Kiki Howell This short story will have you wondering if you should truly be terrified of things that go bump in the dark. All David did was politely say no to the advances of a woman at a party. Little did he know just how much the dark witch wanted him and to what lengths she would go to make his life unbearable for having turned her down. When he can no longer endure the hell he’s being put through, he’s willing to try just about anything. When Myrissa looks up when the bell at the door of her Wiccan store rings, she’s not too sure if she wants to know about the awful auras being projected by the man who entered into her domaine. But as soon as she starts listening to his tale, she knows she will have to help him. A wonderful short that will leave you with chills and heated all at once. Worth the read.
The Ghostly Lovers – Kate Richards An odd, yet extremely interesting story about a bear and his ancestory, and of course, his mate who refuses to marry him….yet. Warren has found his way to a sanctuary that had been inhabited by his many times great grandparents after his grandfather’s clan of bear shifters had been killed and burned by a Spaniard and his crew wanting to bring their treasures back to his motherland and ruler in hopes of bettering his position in the country. Seeking revenge, the shifter kidnaps whom he believes is the Spaniards’ coveted daughter, only to be surprised along the trail as to her true identity, and that of her “servant”. Karma came into Warrens’ life only to have him realize that she’s his mate. He’s been trying to convince her to marry him, but after having been burnt by a shifter fiancé once, she’s not keen on marriage, even though she loves Warren and knows he’s the only one for her. It’s all Hallow’s Eve and there’s a story to tell, so gather around the fire and have a listen. Great story, well put together and easy to follow.
Bearly Relative – Ever Coming To dream is to live, and as Nora is about to find out, her dreams are definitely stuff you want to live with. As Nora dreams of her perfect lover, Colton is experiencing his first mating calls. Will they ever find each other? Or will they be destined to searching for the rest of their lives. A quaint short story that is great for bed time tales.
A Shot at Love – Gina Kincade Another short bedtime story that will have your heart beating an extra beat or two, as Micah desperately tries to gather the courage to approach Jason to tell him how much he regrets having told him that he needed a break, that he wasn’t sure what it was he needed in his life, and that he missed him to the point of distraction and that he loves him, needs him, for ever. But how do you approach the man you love when it appears he’s moved on? Will he ever get the chance? And if he does, will Jason give him a second chance to prove just how much he loves him? A sweet tale of love and just how much we tend to take it for granted.
I received an ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion.
1. Gambling on Trouble (Shifters in Vegas #1.5) by Anna Lowe ***3 Stars This really didn't give a whole lot of information on what really is going on the series, but...it was fun. A dragon shifter on a mission unexpectedly finds her mate and it's a bear shifter who is also on some kind of assignment. Their meeting was adorable and made this an enjoyable read.
2. Vampire Picnic (Ravenscroft #1) by Katalina Leon *1 Star A nurse runs into a vampire who is stealing blood on her shift. Somehow they give each other their entire life story...and yes, it's super awkward. And then everything is better because they met. This was just really stupid.
3. Roman Nights by Monica La Porta ***3 Stars Valeria is looking for work in Rome and unfortunately runs into some vampires. Thankfully, she is a siren and the only being that a vampire can procreate with. And after a rough introduction she realizes that Max, the vampire who found her, isn't the worst thing that could have happened to her. This was short and sweet...and definitely made me want to read more.
4. Ghosts of Desire by Michelle Fox Not Interested
5. The Day Shift by Vivienne Savage ***3 Stars A quick read about two people finally giving in to a mutual attraction. Short and sexy, not much else.
6. Scent of a Mate by Catherine Vale *1 Star Rilen finally meets his mate but she has been claimed by his lifelong rival. They are able to straighten things out pretty smoothly though. I think if this was just Rilen and Elisse's story I would have liked it better. After Samuel was portrayed as a really awful man who took delight in the pain and suffering of others I am supposed to feel some sort of sympathy for him regarding his own mate? Well I didn't, and it just bothered me. Way too much stuffed into a short story.
7. Be Afraid of the Dark by Marissa Farrar **2 Star Four high school students go into an abandoned mine on Halloween to do a story for their school paper. They start seeing strange things and seem like they are being picked off one by one. This was ok at first, had a classic horror feel to it. But there was too much happening with not even an attempt to explain it. It just kind of fell flat in the end.
8. Vidalia (Not Quite #1) by Julia Mills ***3PR Stars Vidalia is a southern belle/medical examiner/cursed vampire who dates super hot cop/fanged vampire Bobby. They are in the middle of a murder case where six women who have been killed and mutilated. They all seem unrelated until it all comes back to Vidalia. Pretty cute read. The asides got a little tedious but fun and sexy.
9. Changed by Debbie Herbert **2 Stars This wasn't really good or bad, just kind of meh. I get that it was a short story but I think there was too much squeezed into this one.
10. Festive Seduction (Wolf's Temptation) by Amber Ella Monroe *1 Star This is about a wolf and a witch who are mates, actually go forward with their mating. I think this is one that you had to read other stories in the series to properly enjoy.
11. Max (Wild White Wolves #2) by Crystal Dawn Not Interested
12. The Mate That Got Away by Kate Rudolph **2Stars Daphne left her mate and pack almost 10 years ago because of a fight? a bully? She accidentally ends up on their land and her mate finds her and brings her home. This seems like it could have been an ok short read but the reason for Daphne leaving was never actually given. And since that was basically what the story was about...it kinda made no sense.
13. Big Bad Wolfie by Sedona Venez Not Interested 14. A Violent Seduction by Kiki Howell Not Interested 15. The Ghostly Lovers by Kate Richards Not Interested
16. Bearly Relative by Ever Coming *1 Star I just feel like this was weird. And Nora's crude fixation on performing oral sex detracted from what could have been a cute, sexy story.
*So far, this review is only for Vidalia by Julia Mills*
This is cute, quick, and fun! I really enjoyed it, and it was very entertaining! Vidalia is the main character, who is a medical examiner, a vampire, and one sassy woman! Her family was cursed because her Granddaddy couldn't keep it in his pants, so Vidalia is a unique vampire. Vidalia is trying to find a connection between women who have been murdered by a serial killer, so she is spending a long night at the morgue to solve the mystery, but all isn't well in Vidalia's world; especially with danger lurking! There is also some sweet moments between Vidalia and her boyfriend, and there is some spice! Look forward to reading more by Julia Mills!
One of the best collections of short stories I've read for a while to give you a taste of what these fabulous authors can do, a great mix of paranormal reads to keep you entertained, amused and even a bit spooked. will you find yourself a new author to read ? I know I have, several in fact.
GAMBLING ON TROUBLE by Anna Lowe 4⭐️ When Karen and Tanner meet the scorching heat has nothing to do with one of them being a dragon. This is a short but addictive read that left me wanting more.
VAMPIRE PICNIC, Ravenscroft by Katalina Leon 3⭐️ What do you do when a vampire is asking to feed from you ? Camdyn has just that dilemma when she finds herself snatched by Rory. A nurse dedicated to helping people but can she trust the word of a vampire when he tells her he needs her help! An interesting interaction and an intriguing vampire.
ROMAN NIGHTS by Monica La Porta 5⭐️ Vampires and Sirens what a fantastic read. When Valeria is directed into the promenade she has no idea of the world she's just stumbled into or what she really is. When Max discovers her secret, one that even she isn't aware of, he knows he must do what is necessary to protect her, even if it is without her consent. I loved this fast paced story, it finished way to soon and I desperately need more of Max and Valeria.
GHOSTS OF DESIRE by Michelle Fox 4⭐️ Oh my, if I ever met a ghost this is most definitely the kind of experience Id like. Cassandra is a scaredy cat when it comes to anything scary so when she's faced with a ghost and a possession she certainly didn't expect the outcome on her future.
THE DAY SHIFT by Vivienne Savage 4⭐️ When Emmaleigh finds herself on the day shift with Adrian, the object of her crush she doesn't know if she should be thrilled or dread it but when it become clear Adrian feels the same, a challenge is issued and things really heat up. A short but sizzling read
BE AFRAID OF THE DARK by Marissa Farrar 5⭐️ Wow, be very afraid of the dark. A group of students working for the school paper decide to investigate an abandoned mine on Halloween, what awaits them in the dark is terrifying. If you're easily spooked don't read this one when you're alone.
VIDALIA: A NOT QUITE VAMPIRE LOVE STORY by Julia Mills 5⭐️ What a fangtastic read! Vidilia is a medical examiner and not quite vampire, cursed to be one of the undead (but without fangs) When Vidilia and her boyfriend detective Robert (Bobbie) Monroe (whose also a vampire) find themselves investigating an unusual case involving several murdered women they are on a race against time before the murderer strikes again, as it turns out its Vidilia's door he comes knocking at, can Bobbie work it out in time to save her? A full story compacted into a short read without losing detail or the readers interest. Very well written and I'd love to read more.
CHANGED by Debbie Herbert 3⭐️ Tara is cursed to be a reaper until she's collected 1001 souls, then and only then, she can return to the man she loves and hope he'll still want her. I like the concept of this story and would love to read something a bit longer following these lines.
FESTIVE SEDUCTION (WOLF'S TEMPTATION) by Amber Ella Monroe 3⭐️ This is a very sweet glimpse of the relationship of Dawson and Alessia from the Caedmon Wolves, if you're familiar with this series then you'll enjoy this short tales of their mating.
MAX by Crystal Dawn 4⭐️ This is the type of story I really like, a team investigating labs experimenting on shifters, but each time they get close, the lab is moved, insider leaking info ? Throw in a hot Alpha wolf determined to make Max his and you have plenty of intrigue, drama and intense attraction. My only complaint .... it wasn't long enough, Im left wanting answers. This story was the beginning and I totally need the ending.
THE MATE THAT GOT AWAY by Kate Rudolph 4⭐️ Daphne had to leave her pack, leaving behind Kieran her mate without being able to tell him why, 10 years later as she's on the move once again the bus breaks down leaving her stuck in the territory of her home pack. When Kieran, who's now Alpha discovers his mate stuck in his territory, there's no way he's going to let her get away again. An incredibly enjoyable read and the chemistry between Kieran and Daphne is sizzling giving just the right amount of tension.
BIG BAD WOLFIE by Sedona Venez 4⭐️ A nice tale set at a BDSM Halloween costume party, this is one big bad wolf that you wouldn't mind coming to gobble you up!
A VIOLENT SEDUCTION by Kiki Howell 3⭐️ A strange yet intriguing tale of a violent succubus entity tormenting a man who's been cursed. David's last resort is to seek help from Myrissa a witch who has a rather unorthodox was of helping him.
THE GHOSTLY LOVERS by Kate Richards 3⭐️ When bear shifter Warren discovers a book among other things that tells the story of his ancestors, he discovers things he never knew about his bloodline. A sweet story of love born from a horrendous atrocity.
BEARLY RELATIVE by Ever Coming 4⭐️ Oh I loved this one, when Nora's dream lover becomes a reality, she gets more than she could ever dream of. Snuggle down in bed and drift into this panty melting tale.
A SHOT AT LOVE by Gina Kincade 4⭐️ Micah is a man troubled, after separating from his lover Jason he comes to realise how deep his feelings are for the other man and what a mistake he's made, not knowing if Jason has already moved on and at the risk of breaking his own heart he decides he has to tell Him how he feels and hope he can forgive him.
I'm halfway through the books so far and i can't get enough of them. Lots of paranormal activity from ghosts to vampires to wares i love it. and there's Sex to of course. The only draw back is not all are full stories some of them are prequals making you want more.
Karen Proulx is a dragon shifter who is after The Blood Diamond when something inside of a pub draws her in.
Tanner is a bear shifter that has women draped all over him when Karen walks in and sets her attention on him.
When two mates meet sparks fly but what happens when one wants something the other is protecting?
This is a quick read and introduction to more of the story involving Karen and Tanner!
Karen is awesome and extremely feisty! I loved how she claimed Tanner for herself, even with all those other women around him!
This sounds like it will be an awesome story and looking forward to seeing where it goes!
Vampire Picnic: Ravenscroft by Katalina Leon
Camdyn is a registered nurse who enjoys reading vampire books during her breaks at work. She loves being swept away by the romance and her fantasies involving these paranormal creatures. When blood is disappearing at work she goes to investigate and is surprised at what she discovers.
Rory Ravenscroft is an Irish Vampire who has been stealing blood in hopes of healing himself. When he needs fresh blood will Camdyn give in to him in order to protect those who require Rory's assistance?
This is a super quick story that gives us an introduction to Rory Ravenscroft whom the author writes other books about.
I enjoyed how Camdyn was reading a story about vampires and was double checking with Rory for what is a myth and what is actual.
I'm curious to learn more about Rory and his story!
Roman Nights by Monica La Porta
Valeria is being chased through the streets of Rome. When Max discovers what she is will he be able to get to her in time?
This was a great quick story to introduce a new paranormal species into Monica's writing. I definitely hope we get another story with Valeria and Max as there is so much more I want to know about their love and definitely more about her!
Ghosts of Desire by Michelle Fox
Cassandra is going ghost hunting in a haunted prision as a favour to her friend Kelly for her show "Paranormal Mom". What Cassandra doesn't expect is to be brought back into the memories of prisoner Andrew Smith.
Did Andrew Smith really kill his fiance, Mary Holmes? Will Cassandra be able to discover the truth and allow the ghost to rest?
This was a quick story and it brought you into the past into a passionate love between Andrew and Mary and their forbidden love. It was obvious how much the two loved each other and it was sad how much their parents hated each other.
I loved the very ending of the book as I found that so sweet!
The Day Shift by Vivienne Savage
Emmaleigh Whittaker is dreading doing the day security shift but when she discovers that her partner will be Adrian Kennedy, her sexy former mentor she is excited about the idea!
This was a super quick read about a challenge that is set and how they go about discovering who is right. Lots of sex and pure passion!
Be Afraid of the Dark by Melissa Farrar
Alexandra "Lexi" Harding hates the dark and when she is assigned to investigate Watergate Mine on Halloween she has no desire to go. But she tries to overcome her fears in order to go along side Dylan Turner who is videoing the event and fellow newspaper contributors Michael Endicott and Alyssa Williams.
Yet soon they find that there are some ghosts that aren't happy with them disturbing them 100 years after a horrific event. Will they come out alive?
This was a quick story about an investigation that goes not as planned. Lexi is trying to overcome her fear of the dark and this event will definitely not help her!
Vidalia: A Not Quite Vampire Love Story by Julia Mills
Vidalia Fitzsimmons has it all going for her! She is heiress to the Vidalia Onion Empire, in love with the man of her dreams and a vampire. But unfortunately as the medical examiner she is dealing with what appears to be a serial killer as she has her 6th victim of having their arteries cut, being drained of blood and thrown off a building.
The lead Detective on the case is her boyfriend, Bobby Monroe and as the two get closer to solving the case the killer soon as their sights set on the next victim. Will they be able to solve the case in time?
This was a fun story filled with lots of humor, a great heroine and some sex to entertain everyone!
I liked Vidalia and thought she'd be a great girl to party with. She has lots of spunk although not much for the strength and coordination to defend herself. I loved hearing her thoughts and plans with everything that was happening.
I thought Bobby's reaction to everything was awesome! He is a lucky guy!
Great read and lots of fun!

Tara has been sentenced to a year of work and knows the end is near when she can go back to Andrew, if he will take her. Andrew was left broken-hearted when Tara left him without a reason or explanation and when he sees her again will he give her another chance?
I enjoyed this book and thought it was fun and fast but super interesting with what was involved in why Tara was gone. I'd love to read more about these two and maybe a book based on what Tara went through in her year.
I have given this collection of short stories three stars. Some were more interesting than others but overall not a bad read. They were free so I would recommend them. A couple have sparked an interest for the series so will follow up.
These authors and stories are so hot and sexy paranormal and bump in the night great awesome stories that just keep up going up all night and the next day and the next lol they are so good and that is just the tip of the ice berg loved them all I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book so good Michelle [[ASIN:B01MEFS0WS Midnight's Call]]
I enjoy supernatural novels, shape shifters, demons werewolves but some of the erotica turned me right off. Homosexual scenes, BDSM etc. Some were lovely stories but skipped a few x
Wonderful set from some really amazing authors. Some new to me authors that I will have to check out more from them as well.
Anna Lowe - Gambling on Trouble (NEW!) - This is a prequel to Gambling on her Bear. Karen and Tanner meet in Vegas and sparks fly. I really enjoyed this and can't wait to read Gambling on Her Bear very soon!!

Vivienne Savage - The Day Shift (NEW!) - Emmaleigh has mid shift duty with her mentor/secret crush. She gets more than what she expected, which was a long boring by the book shift. I noticed the authors note about these two getting a longer story later and I am very excited to see what's in store for them!

Debbie Herbert - Changed (NEW!) - Tara is on a mission, one that is almost finished. Andrew is waiting on her, but isn't sure how much longer he can wait with out answers. This was interesting and I would love to get to know so much more about these two and the world they are living in.
Amber Ella Monroe - Festive Seduction - Quick peak into the lives of Dawson and his mate Alessia. I really need to go read this series in full!
Crystal Dawn - Max - Max is part of a team that rescues an Alpha wolf Adrian. She also figures out that there seems to be a leak of some sort. This was a sequel to another series that I need to go read very very soon!!!

Kieran is now the Alpha and knows that he has 2 days left to claim his mate. I loved these two and want to know more about their pack and its history as well as its future.

An eclectic mix of paranormal stories with some good and some okay. ANNA LOWE – GAMBLING ON TROUBLE Ms Lowe can do no wrong. This is just a short very fun story that is basically gives us the first meeting of Karen and Tanner from Gambling on her Bear (Shifters in Vegas book 2) which is a good read. Not a real story per se but a fun taster read featuring a snarky witch/dragon shifter who meets her bear shifter mate just before he gets enveloped by Vegas show girls. Karen didn't want a mate until that point but quickly makes her move to show he is hers. Now I have to go read their story again.
KATALINA LEON - VAMPIRE PICNIC – RAVENSCROFT I enjoyed this read but it had an open ending that the author has says will be carried on next year as a new series. I would love to read about Rory and Camdyn’s HEA if he ends up with her. MONICA LA PORTA – ROMAN NIGHTS I want to know more. Very intriguing vampire world. MICHELLE FOX – GHOSTS OF DESIRE I have read this book before and still enjoyed it. The ending ties everything up quickly but it is a short story and I enjoyed the resolution. Interesting theme of being possessed by a ghost to show what happened in the past. VIVIANNE SAVAGE – THE DAY SHIFT A good short story that seems to be a taster for a full book. I hope so anyway. MARISSA FARRAR – BE AFRAID OF THE DARK A spooky ghost story read that felt more like a young adult book. No real romance JULIA MILLS – VIDALIA This was an okay read, sort of funny. Something a bit different from Ms Mills. DEBBIE HERBERT – CHANGED A good short read. AMBER ELLA MONROE – FESTIVE SEDUCTION – WOLF’S TEMPTATION This is just a very short mating sex scene from the book. We don't get to know anything about this couple. You need to read the book to know more about this story. CRYSTAL DAWN – MAX Not a complete story. KATE RUDOLPH – THE MATE THAT GOT AWAY While I did enjoy this short story I want to know what happened between Daphne and Julianne. We are not given the full story about the challenge and why Daphne had to leave the pack or die. I hate not getting an explanation for why she was exiled. Even just a brief flashback would have explained it. SEDONA VENEZ – BIG BAD WOLFIE A good short BDSM based story. Would have loved to see Skyler kick idiots butt though. KIKI HOWELL – A VIOLENT SEDUCTION An interesting story. Would have liked more of this couple and to see where they end up rather than just a dinner date. KATE RICHARDS – THE GHOSTLY LOVERS A good read but definitely part of a series that I have no knowledge of. EVER COMING – BEARLY RELATIVE A quick read that takes our heroine from man of her dreams to bear of her reality. Except he is her new stepbrother. Fun and short. GINA KINCADE – A SHOT AT LOVE This book is not my thing and I will not be reading it.
Incredible author list here – sure to find many amazing and spooky stories!!!
1. Gambling on Trouble – Anna Lowe – 5 stars The sweet, sexy story of how dragon-shifter Karen and bear-shifter Tanner meet and realize they are fated mates. Amazing visceral reaction from word choices throughout: “It wasn’t the burgers she smelled. It was something else… Something masculine. Something dangerous yet promising at the same time. Something awfully tempting.”
2. Vampire’s Picnic, Ravenscroft – Katalina Leon – 5 stars Scintillating read of nurse Camdyn and her sexy encounter with an injured vampire who needs her help; the stored blood will not be strong enough for him to face the dangers ahead – will Camdyn help?
3. Roman Nights – Monica La Porta – 5 stars Valeria is scammed after losing her grandmother resulting in her roaming the street of Rome being tracked by an attractive stranger who was up to no good. Max stalks and toys with her – enjoying her spunk in fending him off. One bite of her lip and taste of her blood shocks him – she is a siren; a vampire’s companion. Fascinating story ensues from here. Unexpectedly and thrilling.
4. Ghosts of Desire – Michelle Fox – 5 stars Cass is accompanying her best friend Kelly on a ghost hunt. Ghosts seem to flock to her and Hollywood had come knocking. Cass doesn’t even do creepy. A ghost takes Cass over and uses that possession to tell his story. He lost his love long ago – but there is a lovely twist for current day events. A fun, spooky tale.
5. The Day Shift – Vivienne Savage – 5 stars Em has been assigned the daylight hours of monitoring the security feeds of the coven. Her partner for eight hours will be one of the leaders of the coven; Adrian. Turns out Em’s interest in Adrian has not been one-sided and things heat up quite interestingly as the shift continues. Sizzling tale.
6. Be Afraid of the Dark – Marissa Farrar - 5 stars Lexi is assigned to a story on Halloween night; the 100 year anniversary of it being shut after 8 miners (including 1 woman and 2 kids) disappeared. Ever since Lexi’s brother was taken she is afraid of the dark. The only positive is that video will be taken by Dylan Turner – the coolest guy in school. Gossip columnist and cheerleader Alyssa she could do without. Things get very spooky in this chilling tale!!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
This is a great set of paranormal romances. Some of my favorite authors are included and have contributed some great stories to the set.. They are short stories but they deliver great characters and interesting strorylines. You get plenty of shifters and vampires as well as lots of ghosts. I encourage you to check it out.
Gambling on Trouble by Anna Lowe is a fun read featuring a dragon shifter in Vegas on a mission who meets her mate. The author has more stories featuring these characters that are great reads too.
Vampire’s Picnic is about a nurse who loves to read paranormal romances and gets up close and personal with a vampire. It has an unexpected ending that I really enjoyed.
Roman Nights is about a vampire out for some fun and meets a rare siren. It has an interesting take on sirens and their relationship to vampires.
Ghosts of Desire features a woman on a reluctant ghost hunt who gets possessed by a ghost and a finds a future she did not expect. It is a unique story.
The Day Shift is a good story about vampires on a security assignment who get a chance to explore their attraction. They have great chemistry.
Be Afraid of the Dark features some students on an assignment to investigate the site of a major accident and see if the ghosts are real. It is well-written but not my favorite in the set.
Max is about a woman who works in the military dealing with supernatural issues. She finds a wolf shifter in need and they really bond. I loved how strong Max was and determined to take action.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This anthology is short enough that you can read quickly, but long enough that you want to explore some of the series within it a bit deeper. Big Bad Wolfie by Sedona Venez was hot. You could practically see the rooms described for this party. Made me wish I was there, that’s for sure!
Ghosts of Desire
I got this story initially over a year ago as a Halloween giveaway and learned that was no longer in circulation so I was very excited to see the story in this anthology so I could review it. This story is the hauntingly tragic tale of star-crossed lovers. Although it is short, it packs as much, if not more, into its few words than many longer stories or full-length novels. The story moves fast and is so descriptive that you can’t help but feel that you yourself are a part of it. I went through every up and down with Cassandra from beginning to end. My heart ached for Andrew and wept for Mary. This is a perfect erotic story for Mischief Night or Halloween and I highly recommend it!
Gambling on Trouble
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is Tanner and Karen’s prequel. It’s hard, fast, and will have you breathless for the full story even if you’ve already read Gambling on Her Bear! I like prequels and epilogues to the stories I read—especially when they belong to a series. I enjoyed how we got that little bit that set the tone for them and hopefully, they will have a bonus epilogue in the future.
Midnight's Call By: by Anna Lowe (Author), Katalina Leon (Author), Monica La Porta (Author), Michelle Fox (Author), Vivienne Savage (Author), Marissa Farrar (Author), Julia Mills (Author), Debbie Herbert (Author), Amber Ella Monroe (Author), Crystal Dawn (Author), Kate Rudolph (Author), Catherine Vale (Author), Sedona Venez (Author), Kiki Howell (Author), Kate Richards (Author), Ever Coming (Author), Gina Kincade (Author) 5 out of 5 stars
The stories within the boxed set Midnight’s Call are Paranormal/Shifter/Ghosts and all sorts of different creatures is a perfect read for Halloween. 16 authors who will either scare you or just plain make you fall in love with their stories. You have the ghosts of Be Afraid of the Dark, a short story about a dragon and a bear who meet in a Las Vegas bar, no punchline needed, Vampires, everything you need for reading right before bed. Although I would suggest a nightlight or just leave a lamp on.
I have read books by many of the authors and after reading them all, I have to agree this is an awesome set of stories. Most are short or novella form, however that just means that the authors have worked that much harder to hook you in on the story. I am hooked. The heavy atmosphere, storylines and characters will have you from the first few pages to the closing. Oh and did I forget to state all of the wild romance that happens? I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
The mate that got away by Kate Rudolph Daphne has been running for 10 years, the newest one is from a local pack alpha set on claiming her at the next full weather she wants him or not. So she runs again but her bus broke down in her home town the one she was forced to leave under threat of death. Before she could think of a plan in walks the mate she was forced to leave behind. Kieran is alpha now and has been looking for his mate for years. On the night they were set to run away together she just took off without a word. Now here she is and she is not running again but she is still in danger. Short, action-packed story of true love lost and found again. The characters are fun. I loved it.
Gambling on trouble by Anna Lowe This is a fast paced little preguel story of tanner and karen's first night together and boy was to hot. Tanner us a werebear working in Vegas in security at the scarlet palace casino. Karen is half were dragon half witch. She is in Vegas to reclaim her clans blood diamond but her Dragon found tanner her mate. Hot and spicy! I love the characters and how they meet. There amimal half knows that they wants to bad the human part aways gets in the Way lol The rest of the story is found in Gambling on her bear. Don't miss that one it was great too. The whole series is really fantastic, This one is for shifter fans! Voluntarily reviewed a free copy and I honestly LOVED it
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this advance reader copy and was not compensated in any way. There was a time I stayed away from story collections like this. Small, partial stories that left me wanting more. It was back when I first started reading as a serious hobby. Now I look for these collections. There are so many talented authors and kick a@@ stories out there. But it can be hard, not to mention expensive, trying to find your next read. Especially if it is not an author you know. Collections of short introductions, like this collection, allow me to get a glimpse of multiple authors writing styles. I can then choose to move forward and purchase the book; knowing I will enjoy it and the money will be well spent, or I can move on to the next short and have lost nothing. Right now for under a dollar I can acquire insight into 16 new books and 10 authors, some new ,some I know well. The stories in this collection range from innocent paranormal romance to hot, and smoldering hot paranormal romance. I choose to continue with approximately 10 of the stories this book introduced me to. I would say definitely a Win Win for me !!
One of the best anthologies of the paranormal genre that I have come across. A collection of shorts by some of the best and most versatile authors of the moment. First I wish to state that I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this advanced reader copy and was not compensated in any way.
Roman Nights by Monica La Porta:
A sensual and tantalising short story by one of my favourite authors. In true Monica La Porta style, we are given a glimpse of a sultry, decadent yet dangerous Rome. Max and Valeria are combustible together. In only a few chapters the author still managed to capture the thrill of the chase and the allure of seduction. The story is detailed and yet to the point. Truly a pleasure to read anything from the penmanship of this amazing lady.
Gambling on trouble by Anna Lowe:
Sweet and sassy. This short titbit introduces us to Karen and Tanner and teases us on what is to come. Smiled all the way through it. Got me curious on what comes next. Loved it.
Ghosts of Desire by Michelle Fox:
This was such a feel good story. From heartbreak to happily ever after. Michelle fox really knows how to spin a yarn. Great little short.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this advance reader copy and was not compensated in any way.
I have read 2 of the stories in this book set & that is what I am reviewing. I will add reviews for the others as I get them read. Please note there are no spoilers.
The first book I read (I am reading them out of order) was Big Bad Wolfie by Sedona Venez and this one was 5 stars all the way. As I have come to expect from Ms. Venez, the story was filled with likeable characters and a great sense of humour. As these are short stories, this is a great introduction to Ms. Venez’ writing for those that have not yet been exposed to her wonderful work.
The second story I have read so far is Gambling on Trouble by Anna Lowe. This is the first story in the book set and my own introduction to Anna Lowe. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting these characters and taking their short journey together with them. This short story is a brief introduction into the story of these characters. I am looking forward to reading their full story.
I am rating this 4 stars so far because I have not read the whole book set and I will update the rating when I am done to reflect the whole book.
