Review:
The characters are well developed and well rounded. Sylvia, Darwin’s best friend and business partner, is getting married, That is, until her photographer is killed before he can do his job. Now Sylvia’s marriage is on hold because her mother will not give her blessing because she feels the murder is the work of the devil and the marriage is doomed. So Darwin has her work cut out for her, solving the murder within a week. With the help of her boyfriend, Will, who is in law enforcement, they will do what it takes to catch the culprit. There is a paranormal aspect to this book and I thought it added a lot to the story.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions kept me engaged throughout the whole book. The writing style flows smoothly and the book was a quick easy read. The mystery was intriguing and well plotted, and I did not figure out the suspect until it was revealed at the end.
I would recommend this book, and series, to anyone who enjoys a well plotted paranormal cozy. I will be reading the next one very soon.
This made me angry—and sad. So much so that I felt an ache in my heart. I was still shaking a few minutes later as my adrenaline sapped away. I guess that’s what creative writing is supposed to do: make you feel.
I’m not sure about the reason for Darwin getting involved in the investigation. It seems to me that what she was trying to prove was way worse than what people thought. I don’t see why it would work.
I love the recurring characters except I hate hate hate Zachary. I hate when authors put characters like him in books. Will is amazing and Darwin should be 100% invested in him and not lured by the scary, dangerous, controlling guy they call Mr. Creepy. If she has an issue with Will not accepting her, than she should talk about it with him and explain that’s it’s coming between them. If she can’t do it, she should break it off and stop hurting him by not giving him her all and flirting with another guy. This is why I didn’t give this a higher rating.
The mystery was good. The lies and twists and turns were excellent. The new characters were also well done and believable up to a point. (In the cutthroat world of modeling, I don’t think they would be as nice to her.)
The dogs were great. There was one that they never explained what happened to and that bothered me. I hope the next book starts immediately after this ended and you find out the dog got a good home.
There is also a horrible baddie that isn’t dealt with, that’s lurking there in the background and it wasn’t fixed either. There were several years between the publishing of this one and the next one and that would have driven me crazy. I might not read the next one because I’m so mad at her attraction to Zach, but at least I know it’s there if I change my mind.
The reader, Stephanie Einstein, is really good. I’d love to hear her read more books.
Darwin has to solve a possible murder in a week or her friend Sylvia can't get married.
What I enjoyed: * I liked the interaction of Darwin and her sisters * The puppy, Petey, was adorable
What could have been better: * There is a love triangle * While this case was solved, a big mystery of their past was started and since there haven't been any books since 2013, I'm guessing it will never be resolved * I have a hard time believing that someone would let their mother's thoughts that the wedding is cursed (because the photographer died) keep them from marrying someone they loved (and why would the groom be ok with this)? *
I loved it! I love mysteries and lighter paranormal novels so For Pete's Sake was exactly my kind of read. Darwin's relationship with her sisters was a bonus for me; I love that her sisters are in town and I hope they get to stay a while. Her friendships, romance and her love for dogs all enhanced the plot; strong characters and relationships are a key to any book that I really enjoy. Even her connection with Zach adds to the wonderful feel of the story and I always wonder where that might go. Shannon Esposito once again creates an entertaining and intriguing murder mystery with the added tension of the wedding.
It was tough to figure out who killed the photographer. I started with the first person who showed up and I found myself pretty much jumping where ever Will and Darwin looked. It was great that Will let her help with the investigation and boy did he need the help, especially with the time constraint they were working under. He showed respect for her intelligence and the resolution came because she used her brain instead of tripping over the guilty party! The new paranormal element presents intriguing but frightening possibilities.
I requested and received an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book. I have written the review voluntarily because I love sharing my excitement about books with my friends, that is the librarian in me.
Terrific read. I know the murder was supposed to be the main event but it got a little overtaken by the attacks on Darwin (not only in her dreams but also whilst awake) from the mermaid like creature that has began to stalk her. Also I must admit that although she loves Will, I personally see Zach as a better fit for her. He understands magic and accepts all of her - warts and all. Sylvia's wedding has arrived but her photographer hasn't. Sending Charlie to see what the hold up is has a phone all come back that no-one expected. He's dead of what appears to be a heartattack. The puppy hat is on the scene gives her a flash of a woman's hand that is adorned by a large engagement ring and the images of his owner collapsing. Now Sylvia's mother is claiming the wedding is cursed and she won't let it continue. The only option they have is to prove it was murder. Add in her sisters, a puppy, glamorous models, missing laptop, missing cameras and the fact that the dead man was expecting a large isom of money (enough to build a dog shelter where dogs could live uncaged). Can they put together what really happened? Can they get Sylvia's mother to give her blessing to the marriage? Who is the mermaid like creature that has started to invade her dreams and has now started attacking her in real life? Why have they been given a guardian? What is she going to do about Zach?
A perfect wedding gets derailed when the wedding photographer is found dead. The bride's mother is superstitious and thinks the mans death of a heart attack has cursed the wedding. Even when the death is ruled murder the mother will not give her blessing until the murderer is caught. With only a week before the bride's family goes back to Portugal and the wedding is off for good, Darwin and her boyfriend Will, a detective, work to solve the murder and get the back on track. Too many suspects and one no one expects until the end. Must read.
Darwin is looking forward to Sylvia's wedding. Sylvia is Darwin's best friend and business partner but things go bad when the wedding photographer is found dead. Sylvia's mother who is upset that the wedding isn't in a church decides that the wedding is now cursed so it's up to Darwin and Will to prove that it was murder not natural causes and put the culprit in jail. Both of Darwin's sisters, Mallory and Willow, are in town and they help some as well.
In addition, there's a woman from the sea who seems to have an issue with Darwin. Who is she and what does she want?
For Pete's Sake, A Pet Psychic Mystery by Shannon Esposito is an entertaining story.
I received a complimentary .epub copy from the author. That did not change my opinion for this review. I gave it four stars.

Like with the others I am seriously not enamored of the detective. He says he loves her but doesn't really accept her psychic gifts. She doesn't seem to be developing a backbone to either confront him on this or move on. There is no wrapping up of the personal issues and this book ends with the "grandmother" showing up on the doorstep. Publication date is over 2 years ago and there doesn't appear to be another in the series forthcoming. Disappointed.
This book was just as good as the first three. Characters likeable, interesting and eccentric. Darwin's sisters are an added bonus to the series. Will and Darwin's relationship continues to be obstructed by Will's closed mind. The plot flowed well and was engaging and exciting. Satisfying ending.
This was a very good easy reading book. I loved the story and how the mystery all came together. Silvia and Lance were able to get married once the mystery was solved.
