After suffering an unspeakable childhood tragedy, firefighter Tanner Canagan uses his wolf shifter powers to rescue other helpless victims. But no matter how many people he saves, the dark history of his past prevents him from getting close to anyone. He doesn’t deserve to fall in love, especially not with a woman as gorgeous and amazing as Jordyn.
As a paramedic, Jordyn Lowe saves lives on a daily basis. As a wolf shifter, she’s dedicated to her pack. And as a woman, she’s head over paws in love with Tanner. Despite her own painful past with men, his tortured soul doesn’t scare her away. They just might be able to forge a union destined to last forever—if only she can convince him that their broken hearts can heal one another.
My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!
This is the 6th book in the Black Mesa Wolves series which I am familiar with and have read several of, but I have not read any of the Dallas Fire & Rescue series which this is a Kindle Worlds novella of. It is for adults only due to the steamy content. It is only about 75 pages, so it is a quick read.
Tanner has a tragic back story that made me cry as it unfolded. Jordyn has baggage too, but they only make vague references to hers. I really liked both of them. There were definitely times when you were thinking that they both needed to be slapped to help get their heads on straight. The story kept me engaged and made me not want to put the story down. Most of the pack that you know is not in this story. A great addition to the series! Can’t wait for more!
I recommend this book to all of the Black Mesa Wolves lovers because if you love your wolf shifters and J.K. Harper, you don’t want to miss this story!

A romantic tale of action, suspense, life-threatening moments, family love, true friendship, emotional ups and downs, and deep passionate sensual romance. A sweet happy ever after that occurs when all obstacles are faced. A story that definitely should be read.
Tanner Canagan suffers anger and pain from a devastating childhood tragedy. Now, a firefighter he saves lives but this does not soothe his inner soul. Legal shifter fights help a bit with the anger but more importantly he finds solace in the arms of Jordyn Lowe. As a shifter, he believes he can't give Jordyn the forever love a shifter mate deserves. Jordyn a paramedic takes pleasure in saving lives but suffers from the heartbreak of past relationships. Her relationship with Tanner has been taken with a grain of salt knowing the day would come when he would leave. The Durango Firehouse Chief has been railing on Tanner for awhile so he decides it is time to move on, leaving his family, friends, and Jordyn too. Fearing rejection, Jordyn offers no reason for him to stay.
Tanner’s journey about himself, his wants and needs are quite intriguing. The author does a fabulous job showing that facing your fears and letting go of the past is important to have the happy loving future you desire. Tanner has to face his past and come to terms with his fears. His wolf psyche, dad and best friend Zach want him to stay explaining why he is wrong to run, but only he can decide his own future. Jordyn is beautiful, her patience and sweetness for Tanner shine in this story. In the shifter world mates are their other half, keeps them grounded and makes them stronger, in our world if one is lucky enough to find the soul mate we seek it works on the same principle. We all enjoy the sexy romance in stories, but when fantasy is mixed with reality it makes for a much more gratifying read. I truly loved this story; a wonderful read. If you treasure shifter books this is definitely a great choice for your library. In fantasy romance, the magic begins with the first thought to paper. {I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy}. Without reservations, I recommend this book.
Tanner stood in front of the burned down house. He asked his buddy, investigator-in-training, to come along and search for clues to the cause. Both were wolf shifters and could find things that humans might miss. This was Tanner’s own private mission, to investigate fires that may have been set. But Russ was waiting for official orders first. Tanner’s chief had seen him remove his mask at the scene and was not happy at his not following protocol. As he walked away, Tanner made up his mind to resign and move on. He did not feel comfortable at this station and needed a change. It was time to move on. Then he wandered over to the paramedic van to tell Jordyn of his decision.
Tonight he needed to release some energy and tension. He needed to fight. His opponent was Crazy Bear, well named, it seemed. Jordyn had come to watch and mentally sent him some of her strength in support. He won his fight, but the inner turmoil didn’t stop. He had seen himself as a loner from a young age after most of his pack was destroyed by rogue wolves; and had the restless urge to keep moving on. He felt he would not be good mate material for Jordyn. He just couldn’t get rid of his own demons to let him settle down.
A large part of this story was watching Tanner struggle with his feelings. Part of him was restless and needed to avoid attachments, to keep moving around from place to place. And part of him knew where he was most comforted. His wolf tried to get through to him, as well as those around him. But he let his painful past alienate him from everything. He felt unworthy. Even his firefighter job was to save lives, to atone for a guilt he shouldn’t be taking on. If he leaves, he will lose his potential mate forever. Can he do that? Will he throw it all away? She calms him and makes things better. Can he accept that and give love a chance to heal him?
I recommend this book – it’s a really good read. The storyline is strong and the interplay of the various characters begins to tell what kind of a person Tanner is. It is quite enlightening and an experience you won’t want to pass up. I voluntarily reviewed this book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.

I loved this book when I read it as part of the Black Mesa Wolves Box Set. Black Mesa Wolves Box Set by J. K. Harper is a set of nine different books of the series all put together into the perfect reading order in one group. The nine books included in this set are: Guardian Wolf, Alpha Wolf, Hunting Wolf, Wild Wolf, Solstice Wolf, Christmas Wolf, New Year Wolf, Protector Wolf, and Fire Wolf. Every one of the books in this set was a wonderful read. Each individual book features a different couple who were forever mate and all of the stories are tied together as members of the Black Mesa Wolf Pack. I think anyone who loves reading about shifters or paranormal romance will love this box set where everyone eventually gets their happy ever after ending.
This was a very beautiful story to read and I loved all the characters that were in the story. You could feel the emotions on the pages and you could feel them fighting how they felt deep inside. Sometimes it is sad for a tragic or scary moment for people to realize how they feel.
Loved every moment and you could understand from both sides why they felt the way they did and the hard decisions they have to make. Always thinking they know what's best for the relationship.
Novellas always leave me wanting more. This story is a standalone but a cross between the black Mesa wolves and the Dallas Fire and Rescue Kindle world.
Tanner and Jordyn are both wolves hiding a lot of pain. What will it take for these two to reach out and grab the brass ring? Or will they let their past keep them alone for the rest of their lives? Rules are not meant to be alone.
I voluntarily reviewed and Advance copy of this book.
I voluntarily read this advanced copy of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was interesting and well written. I loved how the author was able to keep my attention from start to finish. The story line was well thought out and entertaining. I just hope there is more books in this series.
Sometimes when someone is running from something, they close themselves off to what is right in front of them. Tanner and Jordyn have to figure it out while trying to do their jobs.... saving people. Loved it!
Always enjoy a black mesa wolf story. Tanner and Jordyn' s story is no different. J. K. Harper has a way of bringing her characters to life. I never fail to be drawn into her stories and fall in love with the characters.
Glad I purchased and read. Really enjoyed the storyline. Really well developed characters for a short story. I will be purchasing the rest of her series!
Always feeling as though he doesn't belong, Tanner has a lot to ponder. Will he keep running or will he finally set things straight in his life? Read and find out.
Nice little story about loss and love finding the way back. Our two characters have trouble letting anyone into their hearts but these two are mates and their wolves want nothing more than to stay together. The story could use a little more editing tools, there are a few grammar errors but not enough to take away from the story.

Fire Wolf is a crossover between Ms. Harper's Black Mesa Wolves series and Dallas Fire & Rescue Kindle World.
As a child, Tanner suffered an immense tragedy, which led him to becoming a fireman. A werewolf, he at times balks at obeying human rules. He is restless and unwilling to settle down, certain that he doesn't deserve peace. This doesn't stop him from entering a friends with benefits relationship with paramedic Jordyn. She is also a wolf and also suffering from her own past, which makes her leery about entering a relationship. Despite the human hesitance, both of their wolves insist that the two belong with and to each other.
I enjoyed reading how Tanner finds himself and finally lets go of his hurt. The conversations between human and wolf were also amusing. In the end, love conquers all and that is a very sweet sentiment.
My only complain about this is that I wish Jordyn hadn't been as passive as she was in her relationship with Tanner and simply accepting what he said. Also, if you're looking for a true crossover with Dallas Fire & Rescue, this is not that book. There are mentions of Dallas but that is about it.
This was a fun quick read.
NB: I received a copy of the book from the author. I have voluntarily reviewed it.
Dallas Fire & Rescue: Fire Wolf (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Black Mesa Wolves Book 6) By: J.K. Harper 5 out of 5 stars
The novella Dallas Fire & Rescue: Fire Wolf (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Black Mesa Wolves Book 6) by J.K. Harper is a paranormal shifter romance. Tanner is a firefighter who suffered a childhood tragedy. He saves others so he can deal with the pain. Only he will not save himself. Jordyn is a paramedic who knows the score. She and Tanner have a connection that neither will admit to, or their human half will not, “Mine!” says their wolf. Can Tanner and Jordyn finally realize that what they are always searching for is each other?
This novella is just plain amazing. You are reading of two souls not allowing each other to get close as they don’t want to be hurt. Stressing the importance of family and forgiveness, this is one love story you don’t want to miss. The characters are awesome and the romance red hot! I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. It is my hones review.
Isn't it strange how you can perceive your past as so horrible making your heart cold as stone. But when your given unconditional Love it can somehow heal that pain. But sometimes it takes an almost near other tragedy to be willing to admit it and accept it.
Tanner had made his life's work to save people from the tragedy that he suffered when he was a child. He is a fireman and wolf shifter. Jordyn has spent her life helping save people also, her's just in a different capacity. She's and EMT and wolf shifter but has been hurt in her past.
It will take their wolves inside them to make them finally admit what they both want and need, which is each other.
Great PNR Read, interesting and humbling. Mature readers 18+

Harper I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book and I truly recommended to any paranormal shifter romance fan. This novella is the story of firefighter wolf shifter Tanner Canagan and EMT wolf shifter Jordyn Lowe. The story is fast pace and full of family love, brotherhood, suspense, danger, lots of action, strong different emotions, steamy romance, some twist and turns with a happy end. Can Tanner and Jordyn realize the importance of family and forgiveness? Can they trust each other so they can stop running from their pasts, or from each other? Go buy the book, this is one story you don’t want to miss.
Book 6 in the Black Mesa Wolves series and part of the Dallas Fire and Rescue series by Paige Tyler.. A really interesting read that I really enjoyed but a bit too negative for most of the book. Started to annoy me two thirds of the way through the book. I understand the problems Tanner was facing but I think his father needs to take a lot of the blame for never sitting down and talking to his children. How can a 3 year old be that traumatised and it is not dealt with. Jordyn’s reluctance is never really explained, getting hurt by past lovers is a part of life but she seemed to be just as negative as Tanner. Some good new interesting characters are introduced. Nice to see Connor and Lia again. This is my honest review of this book.

Tanner Canagan and Jordyn Lowe have both known heartbreak. Because of this, neither of them lets anyone too close because of this, even if it causes them to deny their own mate.Tanner never stays in one place for very long and refuses to access that Jordyn is his mate before he runs again. This was a quick read about two people that don’t think they have the right to be mates. Jordyn is stubborn enough to just accept what Tanner offers and not fight for her mate. While this is irritating without knowing the details for her being so shutoff, it is understanding. For Tanner, it takes a bit more before his stubbornness will finally accept his destiny. I highly recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book

I love anything that J. K. Harper writes! I love the Black Mesa Wolves series. This one is no exception. I loved the plot of the story. It flowed smoothly throughout. I will definitely be looking into the Dallas Fire & Rescue Kindle World. I mean...hot shifter firefighters...what more could you ask for? The chemistry between Tanner and Jordyn is explosive. They both are well-developed characters. Tanner's past is heart wrenching and one I'm glad he decided he could work through with Jordyn's help. I was glad to see them get their HEA.
