The challenge wasn't meant to be easy. They were set up to fail from the beginning.

Priya's the last of her kind...
After death takes the only family Priya has ever known, she ventures out to find others like her, those who catch fire and fly. But shadow hunters prowl the night ready to kill firebirds like her, and one has found her trail. After a narrow escape she runs into the kind of man she shouldn't want...a man with silver eyes as if the very moon has been trapped inside his gaze.
His help won't be enough when Nicholas finds her.

Doulzen is a shade by birth, shadow hunter by rite...
When an extinct white firebird flies through the night sky, fire blazing behind the creature, he knows he has to have it. Pulling the shadows in, he notches his arrow and downs his prey, but when he arrives to catch it, he finds a female running from someone instead. He promised himself he wouldn't be her protector, he'd get her where she needed to go, but when Nicholas shows up and takes Priya from him, Doulzen finds the mark that tells him she is his fated mate. With darkness at his heels, he will stop at nothing to get her back as his very existence relies on it.

When Priya and Doulzen find out each other's secrets, it will take a lot more than fate to bring them back together.

I'm an indie author with a pen name taken from a burlesque name generator and began my career on a dare...

The fae, magic, and mystical worlds of possibility are carved into my soul. When I write my stories I pour all of my heart into what they whisper. I'm the kind of lady who will stare off into space to better understand my characters thoughts, listening to them speak their own version of the story.

I'm a mother of two girls and several furbabies. I'm engaged but have no intention of getting married.
Like most authors I've been writing most of my life and have dreamed of being an author since the 5th grade.
When I write, I write to explore characters and a world first for myself. Then I revise, edit, and publish for readers.

I'm no stranger to Ms. Kane's writing style of works. I've been a fan of hers since the debut of her Trouble with Elves Series and am happy to say that once more, she delivers what she promises. She has the ability to grab your attention from the gate and keep it until the last page.

After her gran's passing, Priya takes off on a personal mission to find other like herself. However, her plans re soon eclipsed by a series of events that takes her...and her destiny in a whole new direction. Between ditching a stalker and taking an arrow to her flesh, she realizes her game plan needs to change. And quick.

Doulzen, a Shadow Hunter, is on his own quest for a firebird when he meets Priya and once he does, all bets are off as they find themselves increasingly drawn to one another even though neither is looking for that type of distraction.

Priya learns her own mettle when she manages to rescue herself, a firebird and Doulzen from her friendly neighborhood stalker but its nothing compared to learning just who *she* can be with Doulzen at her side.

The downside to these discoveries?

Her kind and his are sworn enemies. Bring on the heat and chemistry!

Want to know more? Buy this book, snuggle down and get to reading!

Ms. Kane's characters are full of sass, fire and stubborn will. Her plots are always intriguing with sexy twists and endless possibilities. Her talent as an author continues to rise higher.

Keep an eye on her folks. Hell, keep two on her!

After Priya's gran dies, she sets off to find others like her. But before she goes, she stops at the bank to get some cash in which she runs into the creepy Nicholas. Once safe from his she's up in the air and ready to fly to Ovander but runs into another problem when she gets clipped by a Shadow Hunters arrow. Worried it's Nicholas, she tries to find a way to escape. Doulzen, the actual Shadow Hunter is trying to figure out where the firebird went when he runs into Priya. Not realizing their enemies, she convinces him to take her to Ovander to escape her stalker in exchange for helping him collect feathers. But when Nicholas kidnaps Priya, she learns he has another firebird captured. Priya is able to rescue herself, the other firebird and Doulzen who has found himself captured as well. But when the other firebird and Priya go to Ovander, is it really what she hoped it would be? Great story, and hoping there is a sequel!

This is actually the first thing I have ever read from Decadent Kane, but it certainly isn’t the last. First off, I love her style. It is easy to read with detracting or oversimplifying the story. With the ability to weave an elaborate world filled with fantastical fantasy, Kane’s story is a magical journey I would gladly take again and again.

Knowing what I do about the author, I was expecting a sassy fierce female lead, and I was not disappoint. A dynamic characters, I appreciated Priya’s ability to handle herself and adapt to a situation she wasn’t looking for nor did she ask for it. Not to mention the chemistry between her and the male lead was palpable. I may be biased since I am fan of enemies to lovers stories. They just...unf.

Moving on…

If you are a fan of paranormal romances filled with personal growth and enough chemistry to scorch the pages, I highly recommend Dark Burn.

I love anything Decadent Kane writes. Her story lines are unique with strong characters and vidid details. Dark Burn is the story of Priya who is the last of her kind. After the devastating loss of her beloved grandmother she leaves the only home she has ever know. Priya is running from creepy Nicholas and ends up teaming up with Doulzen who unknowingly is her sworn enemy a Shadow Hunter. There are lots of twists and unexpected turns. It's a great story definitely recommend reading it

Must Read More

This is the first book in the Fated & Forbidden series I have read and Holy Christmas Trees I hope they are all like this! Not only was the paranormal junkie in me fed, but now I must have more! I'm so glad I started on a Friday night as I didn't have to get the kids to school. Not sure they would have made it as I read it cover to cover into the middle of the night. Love the idea of opposites attract and looking forward to reading more ~

Great series.

I love the Fated and Forbidden stories. Having to find your mate before you lose your paranormal abiliies is bad enough, but to know your mate is not your species and is normally off limits makes wild ride to romance. I thought this story was a great story and I would recommend this book to anyone.

I like it.

Decadent Kane is always a good read. This story is different than the elves and demon story. But I Ike it. Would have liked to see more after the blood moon but that's just me. :) still a good story.

This book has a firebird and a shadow hunter. I haven’t read a book with either type of paranormal before. I thoroughly enjoyed their interactions. Of course there is a bad guy to make their lives hard. An unexpectedly good book.

Great story

Dark Burn is part of the Fated and Forbidden series, a multi author series were the goddess Allendra, one of the creator's of all the magical races has had enough of the evil thing they have done and is going to strike them of their magic and make them human at the next blood moon. Her mate Zaan convinces her to give them a chance to prove themselves. Allandra challenges representatives of the races to find their fated mates and bond with them.
Doulzne is a shade, a shadow hunter. He has been chosen by this false goddess to find and bond with his mate.
Priya is a white firebird, the last of her line. After the death of her grandmother she finds a picture and a name that hints of more of her kind. She sets out to find them. A attack has her taking flight and being shot at by a shadow hunter.
Doulzen shots at a rare white fire bird, one he hopes will fees his village for some time. When he reached the place it fell he finds a beautiful women in need of help. Doulzen is drawn to Priya, and when she is kidnapped he knows she is his mate and will do anything to save her.
A fast paced story with some interesting twist and turns.
For Allendra's story read the Challenge, by Kallysten, the prologue to the series.

Dark Burn

The creator is making it more difficult for Doulzen (the shadow hunter) and Priya (the white Phoenix) to be able finish their task of falling in love and mating before the Blood Moon. There are so many obstacles in the way. And very dangerous ones at that. I loved this book, and give it five stars.

A SOLID 2.5 STARS.

MEH, WHILE THE CONCEPT SEEMED INTERESTING THERE WASN'T ENOUGH DEPTH TO THE STORY, AND THE ROMANCE WAS LUKEWARM AT BEST. THE SEX WAS JUST HAPHAZARD AND THE BUILDING OF CHEMISTRY JUST...TOTALLY NOT SMOOTH.

I AM JUST GOING TO BLAME THIS BEING A NOVELLA.

Priya believes she's the last of her kind. A race of beautiful shifters called firebirds. When her Gran dies, she plans to visit family she never met in another city, but a man who is stalking her chases her away too quickly, and she is injured by a hunter. Doulzen is that shadow hunter, but he has no idea the mystery behind the creature he hunts. When he comes across Priya instead of his prey, he vows to help her in exchange for firebird feathers, but he might find more than he bargained for when her stalker steals her away. In that moment, Doulzen discovers she is his intended mate, and he'll stop at nothing to get her back.

A compelling paranormal romance that hooked me from the beginning and wouldn't let go. My heart went out to Priya immediately at not only the loss of her grandmother, but not knowing the anything about what she is and her past. Sheltered as she is, she's a strong and admirable woman. Doulzen is a sinuous hunter who must deal with finding out everything he knows may be a lie. The tension between him and Priya is sizzling. Nicholas is a detestable villain and puts the heroes in what seems like an impossible situation. Fast action, great tension, and oh-my-god twists.

I have read other books from Decadent Kane, and this one is now one of my favorites!

From the author:

Readers, I had so much fun writing this book. It's part of an author co-op with 10 other paranormal romance authors and I truly hope you will look at the entire Fated & Forbidden series.

I came up with a brand new story line for this book to accommodate a challenge. The characters presented themselves in such a unique way I had to write their story!

This book incorporates my idea of shades and firebirds while also toying with some Egyptian mythos.
I am hoping to make this a series.

The plot took on a life of it's own as my character's painted the pictures for me. While Priya may have been sheltered, she is a unique female who has strengths I admire. Doulzen comes off a little standoffish and powerful, and he is powerful, but he also has a heart...deep down.
My villain, well you know obsession leads to many things...including madness.
I hope you enjoy this read as much as I loved writing it.
