The Strangerer, Spirits to Enforce: two plays by Mickle Maher

Rate this book
The Strangerer is a masterful satire, crossing the writings of Albert Camus and Edward Albee with the 2004 presidential debate between George Bush and John Kerry in Miami's convocation center. Spirits To Enforce is a meta-adaptation of The Tempest with 12 Absurd Superheroes on 12 different phones collecting funds for their stage adaptation of The Tempest.

So, I love Maher's words and how he plays with form. This is my 3rd time reading The Strangerer and 1st time reading Spirits to Enforce and while I give it 5 stars - because the work is genius- it really is a hard piece to read and, if possible, try to get 12 people in a room together and read it out loud because you really lose something if it isn't done aloud. But isn't that what makes good theater? Words that gain more when performed?
