M. Stratton is an International Amazon bestselling author in the romantic suspense and mystery suspense categories for her Storm Series and Bender. She lives in Arizona, which is a big change from where she grew up north of Chicago, Illinois. As an only child she learned to tell herself stories to make the long winters go by quicker while dreaming of summer vacations. Now as an adult she still makes up stories to pass the time, but now she writes them down to share with other people. Stratton is a self-proclaimed dork who loves to make people laugh. Her inner rock star is always on stage performing to a sold out crowd, but she quiet and shy on the outside. She spends her days plotting new ways to surprise her readers.
This is for sure different than the normal books I would read from Stratton, However, I LOVED it. This is a sci-fi love story that is very well written. I love how she has an explanation of things in the start of the book for us readers, it made it so much easier to be able to follow along with what was happening in the book. The characters are fantastic and i fell in love with them right away. I sure hope we see more of this genre in the near future.
I loved the book, it was intriguing and fast-paced story with great characters. I see there's another book about the hero's brother so I'm looking forward to read that one too.
This is the first science fiction/fantasy book I've read from M. Stratton. As part of The Complex series, I'm glad there was an overview to set up the history and the way the world is set up. I loved the storyline and the characters. Halley comes to the Complex, an experimental community for Humans and Metas, to make money for her family. Always playing second to her sister, Halley feels obligated to help the family when Starr is attacked and no longer the woman she was. However, she longs for a life that is her own and feels she will never live it. Lucian and his brother, Fandare, are leaders of a Meta clan and joined the experiment to raise money for their clan. When Halley and Lucian meet, their attraction is inexplicable. Both try to deny the pull but little do they know there are larger forces at work. Danger lurks around every corner in the form of a corrupt Intra officer, Merrill. This is a story full of magic and suspense. The characters range from the sweet Halley, to the funny Fandare, to the intense Lucian. I would love to see where these characters go in the future.
4.5 Stars To really enjoy a Sci-fi story, at least for me. I need to be completely engrossed. I can't read when there are distractions around. Sci-fi books for me are so complex, it's was to get lost. Procures was not different. There is a large glossary of what means what, etc. I didn't read that part. If I came across a part that was confusing or I didn't know what it meant, I would then go to the glossary to get what I need.
I enjoyed the story more this way. Knowing this the first book in a series was exciting for me & different authors were going to put their flare on their part of the Complex story. I can't wait to read the entire story!
This was such a great read for only being 103 pages. The author put so much story in it for me.
OK... This book was good, but one part confused the crap out of me. I read it and re-read it three times to see what I was missing and still I'm confused. One thing is happening, then the next thing we know something else is happening. I just don't know....
I liked this story and love the whole world that has been created with The Complex series. There was one spot in the story that was jarring and left me confused as there seemed to be a scene missing that would have answered a question that kept intruding into my mind as I finished the book.
poorly written. seemed like the plot was only half figured out but in the end was a very shallow read. the concept of the complex is interesting but this particular story was a superficial, waste of time. definitely NOT recommend.
