This is the first time I had read a book written in English by a Sri Lankan author all the way to the end. I was not that keen on spending money on a book that would usually be written badly and no smooth flow of the language. Therefore I opted to the Library, and I must say that I was not fully disappointed.
Does that mean that I did not really enjoy this book? Yes, but it was definitely not because it was written in poor English. On the contrary I felt like the author was fluent in English to the point that he is easily moving in and out of Sinhala and Tamil while still maintaining the flow in English. For this appreciate the authors efforts.
The true reason why this book is nothing but just an "Okay" book is that structure of the book itself. It started off with such great promise. I loved the way author slowly built up the suspense and they abandoned the primary plot line, and turned the rest of the book to mere ramblings found in a man's journal. Such an anticlimactic ending to an otherwise well written English book by a non native English writer.
