Sadie & her daughter, Alice, set out to climb Manitou's Incline Peak. Sadie finds a handwritten poem in an antique trunk she buys. The poem says it is from a famous poet. Could it really be? Meanwhile in her daily drive home she encounters a lone woman trudging from town on foot but the lady always declines the offer of a ride.
Sadie gets to spend plenty of time with her daughter Alice. First, Alice wants to get in shape by hiking. Then Alice asks Sadie to help her with her class of 5th graders--Alice and her assistant need one more person to teach the students about learning to write a story. Suddenly someone starts leaving chapters from a book on Alice's school computer. Sadie and Alice find the story charming but who is writing it and why won't they come forward? Then Sadie involves herself in the affairs of a poor family who are hiding a sad secret. Will Sadie and Alice make a 14 mile hike after only 2 weeks of hiking training? Does she discover the mystery writer? Can she help the poor family? What do you think? As always, a fun and fast read, albeit a touch unrealistic.
