The story is part of a series, The Blakeney Brothers Adventures series, but reads as a standalone. Cameron Blakeney is a man who, along with his three brothers, Gabe, Zac, and William were separated by their evil stepmother when they were only young boys, and then she told everyone they had drowned in a boating accident. Now Cam is on a mission to locate and reunite the brothers once again. But Cam also has another important task in life; he is a spy for the Crown, and that connection will aid him in the reunion of the Blakeney brothers. In Smuggler’s Bounty, we meet William.
Lady Arabella Willoughby is not your every day, socialite; she hasn’t been interested in the marriage market, and she works as a spy for the Crown. She is placed on a new mission that is to uncover French spies and to be prepared to use multiple disguises during this mission. She is told by James Coleridge, her contact, that on this mission, she will be working with a fellow spy who will meet up with her at Portsmouth, where their journey will begin. What a shock to meet up with her childhood friend Cameron.
The story is full of action, adventure, espionage, disguises, and games of cat and mouse. For Cam and Arabella, they played well as children, and he never complained about her following the boys or climbing trees, he actually admired her abilities. What a shock for each of them to see one another after all these years, and now to be working together. Two attractive people, still with a special bond, but now adults with a new attraction and sexual chemistry will enjoy another journey together. The adventure is full of tête-à-tête that is not a shy simpering young woman, but an inquisitive, open and honest woman who wants to experience love and passion. Their encounters are full of new discoveries, sexual chemistry, mild spankings, and intimate interludes while working together. There is more than just work for Cam to teach his student and prize pupil, Arabella.
This book was very entertaining. It reads as a stand alone; I didn't even realize it was a book 2, as I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Arabella is a spy on her own, but when Cam joins her, he insists on keeping her safe. The dialogue and interaction between Cam and Arabella were extremely amusing and the sex scenes were very well written. Arabella has an innocent curiosity devoid of inhibition with Cam, which delights and arouses him. The main plot was simple; their mission was to intercept intelligence being gathered by French spies. They followed the French couple from place to place, eavesdropping and stealing letters. Conveniently, they had spare time to engage in bedroom activities. The subplot about Cam's brothers played a minor role, although Cam did gain information on his brothers' whereabouts and the story served to explain Cam's trust issues. This book is well written with all conflicts resolved quickly, making it an enjoyable easy read.
This was an enjoyable read that made you smile along the way. The two were put together to serve as spies, gaining info on the French. With her disguises and interest in her ‘partner’ along the way, it turned into so much more. It’s one you won’t be disappointed with. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
