Sorti de rien

Rate this book

This is the second novel I've read from the French author Irène Frain. I discovered this great author when I read and loved her novel "Marie Curie prend un amant last year. After writing so many novels and biographies, she finally wrote a biography of her own family retracing the lives of her grandmother, her father and her mother during the beginning of the 20th century in the Brittany region. The storytelling is great and the 3 main characters mentioned above are well developed. The author didn't disappoint me neither with her writing style nor the content. She counts how from an awkward encounter she began to ask herself about her own family's origins, her search methods to discover old and ancient family history when most of the old relatives and her parents had passed away years. She searched deep enough to unravel a secret part of her father's origins linked to the region. The first half of the novel starts strong then the story become monotonous. Readers, familiar with Irène Frain, would find interesting to read about her family's bio. Readers who are unfamiliar with the Brittany region and/or France during the first half of the 20th century would also be interested in this novel. However, other readers might want to read first other novels from this author instead of reading this one. Reading this novel is a good way for readers to realize how important it is learn about your own family's origins in order to better know yourself.

To be clear, I’ve read this book before. I just had to add it to my favourites. I keep talking about it with my grandpa every year.
