Lacey Seivers, once so shy that she fainted when she gave the valedictory address at her high school graduation, has shed her geeky image to climb her way up through the ranks of a Chicago law firm. Returning to her hometown for her brothers' college graduation and her high school reunion, she's not the same girl she once was. But some things never change. Like Lacey's connection with her best friend, Hank Chandler. They've known each other their entire lives, and Hank works as a crop duster for Lacey's father. Hank is no longer the bad boy of West Monroe, Louisiana. He's just a man trying to raise his ten-year-old son the best he can. But when Lacey comes back to town, Hank is overcome with new feelings for her, and he leans on her for support when Jennifer, his former flame and the mother of his child, comes to town. Finding strength and comfort in each other's arms, they also find more than just friendship, but difficulties arise that may prevent them from getting their new relationship off the ground.

Contemporary romance author Connie Cox was a finalist in the 2007 Golden Heart contest and sold that book, Taking Flight, to Avalon Books. When Avalon Books closed, Amazon Montlake picked up Taking Flight and offers the story in hard back, paper back and ebook. Then Connie entered a contest sponsored by Harlequin Medical Romances. This led to The Baby Who Saved Dr. Cynical and four more books with Harlequin. Then life happened. Connie went in a different direction and picked up a new pen name along with a new genre.

But true love never says never. There were still heroes and heroines flitting around in Connie's mind, destined to be together. Now, the muses have pulled Connie back to this pen name to give them all their Happy Endings

This was a as sweet and southern as they come read from a brilliant author! I loved the homey feel and the rekindled love affair. Everything about this read was perfect. The romance, the happiness and the family feel.

Excellent read for an escape into a wonderful world of romance!

I wish it was spicier! That’s really the only thing that would have made it 5 stars for me. The main characters have such awesome chemistry though, and it’s a sweet story that I’m so glad I read! It felt like the author could write 3 times as much on this pair and their families(supporting characters were really awesome too, btw), and I would read the crap out of it!

Taking Flight is sweet southern romance written by a close friend of mine, Connie Cox. This was Connie's first published novel and I bought it from her at a book signing at a writers conference in Shreveport, Louisiana. Now she writes full time for Halequin/Mills and Boon Medical Romance, but this story, the one with a strong female character was inspirational to me. The author shared her precious tactics, techniques and procedures with me as I began my fiction writing journey. In TAKING FLIGHT, Lacey Seivers had escaped the typical trappings of a small town to become a successful lawyer in the big city. Years later, she comes back for a reunion and discovers single-parent Hank, a real man (pilot) who grew up from out of a boy Lacey once knew. Just as things look promising, Hank's former lover, who is also the mother of his 10-year old son shows up. Sounds interesting, eh?

This is a great sweet romance set in rural Louisiana. Rekindled high school love? Nothing is angstier or sweeter. The author's style is straightfoward without being plain and the realistic touches and secondary characters give it a nice homey feel. Especially liked the softball game and the hero's son. Tractors, airplanes, and chewing tobacco in Monroe? Yeah, she knows her small towns?
