Love Like a Curse

Rate this book
A ghosty, witchy, spell-casty Halloween love story…

Bar owner Kayla Sloane knows she has it good. Too good to complain about anything as trivial as her big brother’s over-protective streak or poor impulse control when it comes to judging her dates. After all, the guy’s a ghost—it’s not like his life turned out the way he planned either.
So Kayla can’t date. So what. The only man to make her want more moved away the day she met him, and a year later, she’s accepted her lack of love life for what it is.
Her meddling wanna-be-witch little sister though? Not so much.

Rafe Carpenter is a haunted man. For more than a year, he's dreamed of Kayla's smile, her laugh, and her sexy kiss. Now he's back in Chicago, looking for a second chance with the woman he's sure is The One.
Only Kayla isn’t convinced. She’s got a few concerns, including her non-traditional family. But Rafe’s a see-it-to-believe it guy, he’s not seeing anything but how right they are together. Now he just needs to convince her…

LOVE LIKE A CURSE is approximately 16,000 words, and was originally published as LOVE LIKE MAGIC under the pen name Moira McTark.

Growing up in the Chicago area, she earned her degree in Fine Arts from Loyola University and met the love of her life while studying abroad in Rome, Italy… only to discover he’d been living right around the corner from her back home. Having spent her twenties working and playing in the Windy City, she’s now settled with her husband in rural Minnesota, where their four amazing children and two ridiculous dogs provide an excess of action and entertainment. When she isn’t reading, writing, or running the kids around, she loves watching the Chicago Blackhawks and action/adventure movies, blabbing with the girls, and cooking with her husband and friends.

It's a fun Halloween short story with love in the mix for someone who thought she'd never find it due to an overprotective brother - who is not who you'd expect him to be.
Simply put... it has ghosts, love and a real witchy-Halloweeny feel about it. Really enjoyed this one.

This was such a cute little Halloween read! I loved it! It’s an appropriate 16,000 word story following bar owner, Kayla Sloane. After an accident that left her over-protective dead brother linked to her - she finds herself having a hard time dating. Especially when her brothers ghost chases them away. It’s not like any of those dates were anything spectacular anyways. The only guy who ever left her wanting more moved away the day she met him. Rafe Carpenter. And although Kayla is coming to terms with her loveless life - she’s ok with it. As long as she still has her sister and brother in it. But her sister - a meddling little wannabe witch - may have different thoughts of her sisters love life.
As for Rafe.... he’s been haunted. For an entire year, he’s been haunted of Kayla. Her smile, her laugh and her kiss. God, that kiss! He can’t stay away any longer and after a year of being away, he finds himself racing back to her - hoping for a second chance with the one he can’t stop thinking about! Only.... Kayla isn’t all that convinced. She’s got some concerns... some complications that he can’t see. Rafe’s a see-it-to-believe it guy and he’s not seeing anything but how right they are together. Now he just needs to convince her…
“Look, I don’t know you.... you don’t know me. But here’s the first lesson.... I go after what I want and I don’t give up without a fight.”

Rafe and Kayla are so cute together. And I love her brothers protectiveness! The accident was so sad and when everything reveals it’ll pull at your heartstrings. This book is a quick read and Mira played it all out perfectly without it feeling like it was too rushed! The story was the perfect length and the characters were amazing. I loved getting to know them and listen into their thoughts. Rafe is the perfect guy and I absolutely adore him!
If you want a quick little Halloween read, I highly suggest picking this one up! You won’t be disappointed! 🖤

So this is a story about Kayla Sloane and Rafe Carpenter who met a year ago while they were waiting for their delayed carry-out orders. And because Rafe was leaving the next day, Kayla thought it was okay to spend some time with him, so they shared a booth, ate together, talked for hours, and ended the night with an unforgettable kiss. Practically, they went on a date.

A year later, they’re still thinking about each other, and Rafe is back in town now and the first thing he does is looking for Kayla. Up until this point, the book was fine, but then all the over-the-top stuff and eye-roll inducing clichés barreled in, and I actually banged my head on my desk at some point!

Minutes after meeting again, and… MY GAWWWD!!! Just no.

Sweet Halloween Romance

This book is a quick cant put it down page turner. Kayla is a bar owner. She lives with her sister Opal and her brother Aaron. It isnt your typical family. Opal is a practicing Wican and along with her ghostly brother they try to find true love for Kayla. In walks Rafe. After a chance meeting and then a year apart they come together again. And boy do they come.

Spirits & spells & love, oh my!
Kayla can't be sure that her instant deep connection to Rafe is real since her sister, Opal, admits to casting some sort of attraction or love spell over her. It also doesn't help that their dead brother talks to her every day and seems to make things "happen" to other guys she's tried to date.
This story is so cute! It's about family bonds and finding new love and learning you can have both harmoniously.

I love spooky Halloween reads, and this one was so good. I was really happy to find out that there was actually a ghost and magic and not just people playing tricks. I just wish it has been a little longer.
