Lacey Daniels wants a normal life where she can go to dinner or the mall without constantly looking over her shoulder. Unfortunately, her abusive father is out of prison and more dangerous than ever. The Hawthorne Guardians, a local motorcycle club that protected her as a child, is her only hope for normalcy. Some of the faces have changed, but the credo is the protect the innocent. One Guardian, Ratchet, takes an interest in more than her safety. He wants her heart.

Despite her growing feelings for Ratchet, Lacey can’t escape the threat her father poses. With him free and seeking revenge, she will never be safe. Her only chance for a normal life — and maybe true love — lies with Ratchet, a man who is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her father from hurting her again… even if it means risking his life to save her.

It had been ten years since Lacey Daniels had needed Bear’s help. Making her way to the club house, Lacey passes out in member’s arms while asking for Bear. As soon as Bear arrives, he is worried and angry, yet gentle and protective when he sees Lacey; the bond which had been forged between them all those years ago remains firmly intact. Lacey had been just eight years old the last time Bear had seen her, protecting her from the father who had hurt her so badly. After serving ten years behind bars for what he had done to his daughter, Lacey’s father had sought her out in order to finish what he’d started, beating Lacey senseless the moment he had arrived on her doorstep. This time the gloves come off and it’s time for justice, as members of the Hawthorne Guardians keep a cautious and protective watch over Lacey, ensuring no harm comes to her due to inaction of the police over the assault. As Lacey slowly starts to get her life back during her recovery, her childhood aspirations become the key to her possible future. With Lacey’s father still on the loose and out for blood, however, tragedy is just a stone’s throw away the moment her defenses drop in the wake of a new romance.

E.A. West’s explosive tale of child abuse, while showing the true persona of the heroes on two wheels who protect the young victims at all costs is a real breath of fresh air. Well written, Covered shows that you cannot judge a book by its cover, nor can you stereotype motorcyclists as criminals. Reading about a victim who is targeted immediately on her father’s release from prison ten years later, who then seeks out the father-figure who had kept her safe all those years ago is a real eye-opener for those who have never been inside the world of motorcycle clubs. This is definitely one of the most realistic fiction novels I have read, as I not only grew up in a biker’s world but have also seen the tough exterior of both male and female members, as well as the unconditional acceptance of their partners. One of the strictest rules in any motorcycle club (even rebel clubs) is that hurting women and children is strictly taboo. This message has been brought home in Covered, which deals with many aspects of a club who is involved with B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse), including the annual charity runs which raise a substantial amount of money for kids’ charities and domestic violence victims. Not only do I look forward to reading more from E.A. West in the future, but I recommend this book to readers aged 12 years and over who enjoy action, adventure, romance, drama and justice dished out in abundance to all who break the bikers’ code.
