From the funniest voice in young fiction today, the latest in this charming series of rhyming tales for budding readers finds Ava and her invisible cat enjoying a day of mayhem and fun at the beach.
Ava is excited to be going on holiday to the seaside. But with Squishy McFluff, the mischievous invisible cat coming along things are bound to get very, very silly...
Pip was born in Cheltenham, UK, where she spent her childhood gobbling up books and dreaming about being an author herself. At the age of 19, she began a career in journalism, writing and editing for local and national newspapers and magazines. After the births of her daughters, Pip began writing for parenting magazines and websites. In 2012, she won the inaugural Greenhouse Funny Prize, with a series of stories about Squishy McFluff: The Invisible Cat, who Pip had based on her elder daughter's 'real' imaginary kitten. The first book in the series was published by Faber Children's in 2014. Pip's first picture book, Daddy's Sandwich, was published by Faber Children's in May 2015 and was shortlisted in the Sainsbury's Children's Book Awards Picture Book category in the same year. Pip continues to write the Squishy McFluff series, and a raft of new titles are planned in the coming three years, including three further picture books, and a new young reader series. It takes a dedicated mum to rent a row boat and go out to sea in search of a washed away invisible cat :) More rhyming fun with Squishy McFluff.
Miss 6 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
Squishy and Ava are headed to the beach with her family. But when Squishy gets swept out to sea will anyone help Ava rescue her invisible cat?
Well, that was an imaginative seaside adventure. A very loving and understanding mom comes to the rescue, and Ava and Squishy inadvertently help a stranded man get rescued too. Pip Jones continues to astound me with her ability to write a whole chapter book in rhyme. Hand this to adventure lovers and humor fans.
This is a short, cute story about a girl, her invisible kitten that can't swim, and the troublesome adventures they get into during their vacation at the beach. Written in rhyming lines of poetry, some of the rhymes are a bit of a stretch. Not my favorite book style, but I think the kiddos will really enjoy it. Lots of really neat illustrations as well.
Ava and Squishy go to the beach only to have Squishy get lost in the water. Will Ava be able to get her back?
Ava's mom is super patient and plays into Ava's world to go and rescue Squishy. I enjoyed the surprise ending and the clues following up to it. As always, the rhyming is great, making the book all the more fun to read.
