Deprived of magic, can she survive? One moment Shannon is enjoying time with friends, the next she finds herself captive and thrown into dungeons. Worse yet, she’s forced to toil away for the enemy. Her magic can’t save her as a powerful spell is preventing her from being able to do any. Jevon’s guilt over Shannon’s predicament persuades Maya and her friends to try and rescue Shannon. But will Maya be more of a hindrance then a help as they return to Kandar? She doesn’t have the magical abilities everyone else does and on top of it all she’s distracted with relationship troubles. Friendships are formed and enemies are made as the sisters are forced to face their weaknesses.
A mother of three boys, NC would love to be able to stay home writing and be there for her kids more. Working full time until she can realize her dream, she may not be able to write as much as she would like, but that doesn't stop her from trying!
Life in Wimbourne created many difficulties for Maya, mainly because of her lack of magic, whereas Shannon was finally able to shine in her element. The tables were turned for the girls ever since they left the mortal world as we saw from book one. Yet, even as they adjust to their new life, their home world of Kandar is slowly falling apart while being unrightfully ruled by Enecal and his mother.
I like how this book focuses on the individual gifts of the characters, showing their weaknesses and flaws, but allowing them to grow into their strengths to help the people of Kandar. The action escalates throughout the book, which makes for an exciting, page-turning story. I look forward to reading more about these fun people in the next installment.
The saga of these high school twins just gets better. Tastefully written by this new Canadian Author. Engaging story with a castle, dungeons, faeries and wizards.
I am enjoying this series so very much, I'm sure the Harry Potter fans would agree with me on how captivating this book is. On top of that, the author displays the teenage emotions so very realistically in this book that is is impossible for teenagers not to empathize with the twins' jealousies, insecurities, friendship decisions. In this book, our two heroes and heroines are back safe in their villages until danger puts them back at Kandar. There is not a moment of relief in this book as the four of them find themselves separated, facing one danger after another but the beauty of it is the imagination of the author. There is nothing cliche in this book, from the unique creatures the author has created (kiniclos) to the challenges that the teenagers have to confront. Twists and revealed secrets will keep you hooked. Looking forward to reading the third book now.
The second book in the series is as enjoyable as the first. We return to twins Maya and Shannon and their friends as they try to figure out magic, school, jealousy and civil war.
It doesn't take long for them to be pulled back into the magical realm their parents fled from. Shannon is kidnapped by accident and taken prisoner, and so her sister and friends set out to get her back, while the adults argue over the best way forward. They see that things in Kandar have got worse since they were last there, but there are still moments of joy and wonder at the magical place they barely know.
It's a treat to read. This book has lots of momentum and I found it hugely likeable and enjoyable. Great for Harry Potter fans and lovers of teen fantasy.
This is a good follow-up. If you liked this first one, you will enjoy this book as well. The twins are now getting on better, so a new character is introduced to cause issues. The book follows a logical and well thought out storyline that flows well. There are some interesting surprises and it sets up the plot for the next book in the series, which I am glad about. But beware, there is a sad part as well
