Not So Little Green Man

Rate this book
What’s a big, bad (sometimes green) alien to do when he wants a mate who isn’t motivated by greed? Contact Celestial Mates. After all, their business is romancing the galaxy.

Since she’s creeping up on the age of bearing service, the Earth government wants Jassa to have a baby and then hand it off for a family to raise, but Jassa wants her own family. Which means calling Celestial Mates. One questionnaire, a bit of blood, and a race to get away from the Department of Population, and she’s got her wish—tall, sexy as hell, and occasionally green alien Vroe, the High Warlord of Vialea.

Vroe aches for a mate who doesn’t see him as just a rise in status. He wishes for warmth and affection and goes to Celestial Mates to find… Jassa Marizen. Yet his ideas about mating—Jassa mating him and forever being known as only Vrya—collide with hers. She doesn’t want to lose her past. He wants her to embrace her future.

And then there’s this other woman… She just wants Vroe to herself.

Part of the CELESTIAL MATES shared scifi world-o-awesome!

This Alien romance was short and sweet. I don’t love the audiobook and narrator though. I’m not sure I’ll continue the series.

I liked the beginning of this story and the way it was set up. It definitely felt futuristic with its speedy transportation vehicles and the unfortunate rise of an almost big brother type state with individuals losing their rights and personal freedom. I know that sounds a bit grim and depressing but it's important to understand just why Jassa takes the steps she does .
So what I didn't like was the fact that one moment Jassa is about to leave Earth and the next she's arriving on a new planet, one were she's compatible with what turns out to be their King! Vroe is instantly attracted to the soft human he greets but unfortunately has a tricky issue with the exact timing of her arrival . I will say no more about that but it's not the only fly in the ointment . It's a different world with different customs and not everyone wants Vroe to be with the very human Jassa but they are in for a pretty rude awakening as Jassa won't go down without a fight!
I liked the different feel and pace on the planet Vilea but was left with questions. I guess as this is a short story the author had to cut to the chase really but I'd have preferred to know a tad more about the world she has created. There's a character introduced who at first seems to be a villain in an over the top pantomime style but then towards the end I got the feeling that the author wanted to redeem him. Considering this author usually writes very hot romance this book built up the tension allowing the couple to actually try to understand each other before just getting down to it!
This is a voluntary opinion of an advance reader copy

-quick read
-Ms. Kyle always has a good setup for a world
-The sex scene aren't plentiful but work
-Not enough detail. I think the setup for Jassa being on the run and diving into this relationship was good, but there is no follow through. So many dangling questions regarding her past, perhaps seeing more of this 'verse would have help raise my rating.

I liked it enough, though I could have loved it with just a bit more (information, humor or sex, take your pick).

Aww, guys. This one was fun. A human woman who just wants the chance to have her own family gets matched up with a hunky alien trying to find someone to love. SHENANIGANS ENSUE. Well, not shenanigans, exactly. More like cultural differences. And mating fun! Sort of.

I mean, it takes a while to get to the mating part. FOR REASONS. Actually, it's because tall, sometimes-green, and hunky is worried about giving it to his new lady love. You know, because they REALLY GIVE IT TO THE LADIES.

That's understandable, really, since nobody wants to ruin their lady friend on their first time around.

On top of the relationship issues, the lovebirds are also dealing with some dissension in the ranks. As it turns out, not everybody can be trusted and you need to watch your back when you're in full-on mating mode. That's just a good rule of thumb in general, actually.

Bottom line: Liiiiiked it! Fun with a sometimes-green hunk.

This was a very enjoyable story. I liked both Jassa and Vroe and their story was a bit short but I liked it very much.

In this world, women on Earth apparently have a certain amount of time to find a man and get pregnant or the Government takes them, impregnates them and then takes their baby afterwards (and the babies are never seen again by the mother). Jassa is a statistician that grew up in the foster system. She isn't willing to lose her baby and never seeing it again so she decides to sign up for an off-world matchmaking service that looks at everything (down to genetics) to find the perfect mate for people. The Earth Gov isn't willing to give Jassa up easily though and when we start the story, she's running desperately for the loading dock of the departing alien transport with the Earth Gov agents hot on her tail.

Obviously, Jassa makes it to the transport and is taken to a planet to meet her new mate, Vroe. What she doesn't realize is that Vroe is actually his title, which he takes as his name when he became leader of his people. Jassa is rather surprised to find out that she's basically becoming the Queen of her new people, The attraction with Vroe is immediate and mutual and it's clear that the agency did a good job with the match. But, Jassa and Vroe come from very different cultures and there are things on both sides that have to be worked out (as well as a couple of jealous troublemakers that have to be dealt with). Jassa and Vroe quickly fall for each other though and they manage to get past their hurdles and are well on their way to a HEA as the story ends.

This was a very enjoyable story. I liked Jassa as a heroine. She had a rough life growing up but had so much love to give. She also seemed really sweet and pretty smart. Vroe was a bit dense but I think that had to be expected considering he's a man and he's trying to deal with a woman from a completely different culture...I mean men on our planet have a tough enough time figuring us out and they grew up in the same culture as we did. Vroe at least had an excuse and overall, he was very nice and accepted some things others might not because in the end, he just wanted to make a good and loving life with Jassa. Their story is short but I found it to be a very good and engaging read that I'd recommend. :)

I soooo wish there were 1/2 stars ;(

If I could give 1/2 stars this would be 2 1/2 stars, geez I hate giving a bad review to ppl I like and I really Ms.Kyle but for me her books are VERY hit and miss, some I really really love buy too many I barely like at all.... The description sounded really good and interesting but ? Deep sigh, too many things that's just drive me crazy in a book, 1) I don't enjoy a really s l o w build up in a Short story, I call this slow because by chapter 6 and at 25% all Jassa had done was leave Earth, arrive on her new home planet been seen by her new mate and barely, just barely make it inside their new home tog ether, that's all !!!! Seriously all they'd done was make inside their home together at 25% and that's w/out seeing her trip on the trip there then a long tour on their home. 2) more inner monologue than outer dialogue,I start to get bored and annoyed when almost 1/2 a chapter is just their own thoughts and not one word spoken to anyone especially the other MC, then 3) then when all that damn inner monologue is preconceive notion's or thoughts that creates unneeded conflict if the H or h would take just 5 seconds to discuss their thoughts or feelings w/the other instead of going off 1/2 cocked and wrong, created unneeded conflict w/silence is never fun to read... The whole story of their getting together and mating rushes through it all in only what amounts to a little over 24 hours but felt soooooo much longer and Not in a good way... Details like her title and loss identity as us mate are stupidly stressed over ( I mean stressing about losing herself to a new "title" and losing herself to it and him when she hasn't been there 24 hours yet?!?!? WTH?!?? Jumping the gun much ? But at the end when the H decides to make an orphaned servant boy their son, no worries no questions nothing... Barely even a description and no real hint of age... Sigh, much false drama ( long inner monologues and lame misconceptions etc) got boring and tedious fast,by the time the h started to take charge and take her man I no longer cared especially when even sex had as much inner monologue as every thing else did.... Now if your a fan of Ms.Kyle and have KU,I'd say give it a shot maybe some of the things I found soo irritating would be fun for you but if you don't have KU ? It's up to you...

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: http://www.romancingthereaders.com/20...

Lately, I've been in the mood for aliens so I thought I'd read a few I had from Erin Tate aka Celia Kyle. If you follow me you know how much I love her books. When I read these two books I didn't pay attention to the fact that they are part of the CELESTIAL MATES world. Now you know what I'll be doing. From what I say there are a ton of books. I know I might not enjoy them all but chances are I will like some.

I so loved both Jassa and Vroe. I like how their two worlds are so different. It seems that Jassa doesn't really know what she's in for when she looks for a mate. Her world seems horrible so I didn't blame her for getting away.

They do run into a few issues, his brother causes a bit of trouble but that doesn't last. It also cracked me up when she talks him into keeping what they think is a pest. It's always fun when big strong men give into their little women.

As a whole, this is a very cute quick story that I was so happy that I read. I right away read the next one in the series because I couldn't wait to see what happens with the brother. In the Celestial Mates series, they aren't one after the other. But in the Vialea series, they are. I wish she'd write more.

This is a sexy sci-fi. Earth of the future is not too wonderful. It seems to be pretty totalitarian--even to the point of forcing women to incubate children if they are single by a certain age, children they don't get to love and raise. But, this unpleasant future also has guardian angels--the angelic type beings of the celestial mates organization that find a partner of another planet for the people who want one.
Our heroine wants a mate, wants children, wants to choose her own way--so she contacts the celestial mates organization and they find one for her on another planet. The first problem is that she has to get to their ship without getting stopped. The second problem is that the mate and she don't really understand each other's cultures.
Don't worry, love conquers all--with some hot sexy scenes along the way.

I wasn't impressed with this one. It reminded me of dozens of other alien romances I've read. It just wasn't anything memorable. extreme instalove and no depth to the storyline or character development. if this turns out to be a series needless to say I won't be continuing with it

I absolutely loved this short story..I loved the characters, the male was strong and determined to keep his traditions yet willing to change and sacrifice it all for love, while the female was smart and confident to keep herself and the man that was meant to be hers I loved the interactions between the two. I really loved how the author told the story of two different species falling in love without losing who they are. Each changed for their love, yet keeping the greatness that made them individuals.

Jassa Merizen of Earth is running to Celestial Mates' ship, she is running from a futuristic earth where women are used for their brains and reproductive abilities, only they are impegnated my machines and then separated from the child at birth. This gives Jassa the backbone to escape their clutches and put her fate in the hands of Celestial Mates. When she arrives at the planet of her intended mate, she wonders if maybe she escaped one evil only to fall into the hands of another. She desired to be a mother, now she is mother to a planet.

Read how 2 souls of completely different species can overcome all that they've ever known for love.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

I did enjoy the book. It was pretty short and felt a little rushed at the end. I did think we needed more details on Jessa's past and why they force women on Earth to be breeders. I can make assumptions but I'd like to read about it instead. I think I would have liked for Jessa and Stevre to spend a little more time together. He didnt even explain much to her. There was a question he avoided about his family that wasnt answered either. I'm a fan of her other sci-fi books and anything else she writes but this one felt a little less developed in areas. It wasn't necessarily a cliffhanger but it sorta felt unfinished. No epilogue. What will come of Stevre's brother, Teon. Will he find his mate? Will Jessa and Stevre have children?

I'm not all that familiar with this series. I know they are all standalone and some haven't released yet but were supposed to. So, I am not sure if there will be more or if she'll continue and do Teon's story? I'm a tad confused to be honest.

A mother’s love
Oh wow! This is one of my favorite books by this author! I may have read it several times already. But how can you resist a death defying escape, fated mates, betrayal, and jealousy when it is so well put together. The author could have created a movie for the ease with which the story played out in my head. I love the characters, and the emotional angst they struggled through added another layer to the details. This book is a fantastic read, and one I can’t wait to enjoy again.

I hadn't read any of the Celestial Mates books before and I picked this up because I love Celia Kyle's other books. I wasn't disappointed. I'm not sure if there's an order to these books but it doesn't seem to matter. I believe they are loosely grouped together but can stand alone.

It's a fairly typical Celia Kyle/Erin Tate book, which means it's awesome. It's well written and entertaining. I'll be checking out some of the other Celestial Mates books.

Fun Read

Jassa is a human woman running for her freedom and her rights. She turns to Celestial Mates to get the mate and children she always wanted. She must leave Earth, an Earth that no longer values women's rights. She is taken to a strange new world. And a mate who is more than what he represented in the Celestial Mates application. Both of them have some adjusting to do. This was a fun read, but it had some deep undertones about the meaning of family. I really liked it.

This story was ok, there really wasn't a good set up & world building for the story. I felt I was thrown into the plot, not really understanding some of the stuff going on. I felt like I missed something somewhere. I didn't really like the alien hero Vroe, & Jassa was ok, definitely not one of my favorite heroines though. I definitely like the Dragons of Preor series way more than this.

Nice sweet short love story

Jassa is escaping earth, to find love and motherhood. Celestial mates offer her a solution and a mate. While short and sweet, i was left wondering about events on earth and also how she integrated in the new world. Also was she able to get pregnant? There were so many questions left open...

Sweet short read.

Ow this was such a sweet read I swear it almost gave me a tooth ache lol. The story plot was so adorable, a woman with a tragic past who wants nothing more than to be a mother, to have the family she's always wanted and be loved. A male who wants to be wanted for who he is as a person and not for want he stands for. This was truly a feel good read, very heart warming and will definitely put a smile on your face. Their connection was undeniable, their chemistry palpable and their passion unquestionable. I was hooked from the start and had no doubt believing they were meant to be, it was unmistakable from the moment they set eyes on each other, the heat and intensity between them was off the charts. The plot was short but sweet and even though the story is kind of predictable it didn't take away any of the enjoyment for me. Their love story was just that captivating, and I must say I love a female lead with some backbone who's got the guts to fight for what she wants. And our leading male was just so loyal, sexy and so possesivly alpha male he was a dream come true. He may have seemed a bit stuck up at first but oh boy does his true nature shine through almost immediately revealing him to be very sexual, caring, loving and passionate. This tale ticked all the boxes for me, lust at first sight, heated chemistry, a misplaced misunderstanding due to species differences, angst, fabulous leading characters who were extremely likeable, sexy as hell love scene with animalistic male lead who loved to talk dirty, hot damn I nearly had to take a cold shower after reading that it was just that HOT and your sweet happily ever after check, check and check. My only comment would be that it was a tad short, I wanted more of this couple maybe even an epilogue would have been nice, you know letting us know if Jassa got what she most desired a child of her own.

Voluntarily reviewing an ARC

This was a quick (almost too quick) hot alien read. Jassa has one goal and that is to be a mom who gets to keep her kids and is willing to leave Earth in order to get the chance to do so. I'm not 100% sure I may not have missed something, but after finishing I don't remember any concrete facts as to how Jassa ended up being orphaned and raised as a "ward" or why Earth has "breeders" in order to turn the children over to families. Why didn't Jassa end up with a family if she was orphaned? I would have liked to spend more time with Jassa and Vroe getting to learn each other's ways and how she ended up fitting into this alien world. My one big complaint is that there is no epilogue that includes her own baby. It's great she gets to be "mother" to a whole race and immediately takes on a young orphan but she was so baby-focused that it would have been nice to see her get that wish too.

Jassa is determined to be seen as more than a broad mare. She wants children but she also wants to raise them. Celestial Mates will help her have the future she wants. If she ends up with a Not So Little Green Man, at least she will have the life she wants. This is Erin Tate’s contribution to the Celestial Mates series and is well written.
Jassa will fight for the future she wants, even if it is different than the Vroe expected. Jassa turns this world on its head as she fights to keep her identity. I love seeing her fall in love with her alien mate even as she teaches him that he is more than the High Lord. Ms. Tate gave us unexpected twists and turns. She gave us characters that were full of emotion and depth. Ms. Tate showed us a love that made her characters strive for more and she did it in a way that felt believable. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was a nice quick read well worth your time and money.

Not So Little Green Man (Scifi Alien Romance) (Celestial Mates)
by Celia Kyle

Another fun read for the Celestial Mates series.

A short read that is kinda fast paced. Yes, there was a jump in there, but it still came together well.

Love the futuristic feel at the beginning of the book. Really makes you wonder just how things are going be for future generations.

Jessa and Vroe are great characters and I would love to find out what happens with Teon.

Floved it. Each story is better than the last, although this one seemed a little shorter than most, it in no way took away from the fun. Vroe is funny in his own way, Vrya (Jassa) wants a Mate, and a family. But things don't exactly start off on solid footing for our pair :) As always Ms. Kyle brings her own brand of humor to the story, and doesn't disappoint with this fabulous read! If you haven't had the chance, this would be an awesome story to start with, and work your way back.

Nice start of series

I read other books by author. I like her writing style. Liked female MC and her mate. This is a novella with a HEA ending with no cliffhanger. See a few possible male MC for next book if she sticks with this planet. Could see the possibility of branching off using the agency to match other mates. Interesting to see which way she'll go next.

To be fair, I DNF this book. I read about 20% and couldn’t make myself continue. I normally like this author, so I was surprised with this one... I just couldn’t get into it, and when the hero went on and on about how he was going to have to sate his fertile period with another woman because his human mate couldn’t handle it, I was out. Sorry 😐

This was a cute fast paced alien romance. It takes place in the span of a few days so that shows how fast, but it was still really cute. I love the whole fates mates aspect when it comes to paranormal romance and this short novella got that spot. I plan to read more in this series and see the other Warriors find their mates. 4 stars #2OCCJD
