Shirts vs. Skins is a somewhat different take on the MMF romance genre. It features 2 alpha males, Ethan and Colt, who are elite footballers that play for the Dallas Devils. They have a fierce rivalry that extends back into their childhood. This time, though, the heroine, is too an alpha. Julianna owns the football team, the New York Nailers, and she acquires both men in a trade when they initiate a brawl with each other that has the Dallas Devils wanting them gone. She takes what and who she wants, when she wants, and doesn't let anyone or anything stand in her way. While I would normally appreciate this modern take on a female lead, in this case, I'm not sure it was done completely successfully. Instead of coming off as modern and confident all the time, Julianna sometimes came across as rather cold and b---hy, rather than take charge and kicka--. I did like Ethan and Colt, especially Ethan, who is well rounded and interesting. Colt is the opposite of Ethan, he's brash and cocky and brimming with self confidence. Ethan is quiet, self assured and brooding. Both are hot and unsurprisingly attracted to both each other and to Julianna.
The connection between the 3 is rather potent, but it wasn't fully realized and fleshed out. There was only one scene between just Ethan and Colt, not nearly enough for me to be convinced of their feelings for each other. But, I did enjoy the steamy scenes between Julianna and Colt and Julianna and Ethan and the one scene between Ethan and Colt.
On the whole, though, Shirts vs. Skins is well written and steamy with a sizzling attraction between its 3 leads.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
