Tell a witch a lie… I saw the corpse shadow from the corner of my eye; a sallow bruise like a tornado sky. It hung there, unmoving, no matter which way I turned my head. It wasn’t ready to drift across my vision and reveal itself. I sighed, mentally preparing for a day stalked by the reluctant shade. This morning Nilla Hayes woke up with death. She’s not sure whose death it is, but when she finds out her day isn’t going to get a whole lot better. You can’t solve everything with witchcraft. (A Quick Read/Short Story)
Jaime Munn lives in a house with too many windows on the outskirts of Manchester, the city of immortal bees. He writes contemporary and urban fantasy stories. His novels blend the real world with his fascination for all things supernatural. By day he is a therapist. By night he is not a vampire.
"Gloam" was a fun paranormal mystery starring Nilla, the witch from the novel "Bump". For only 33 pages it packs in a lot and has some good twists to it. I was intrigued and entertained.
Nilla is a very likable and sympathetic character with integrity. She's not all powerful or infallible and that's what makes the story more interesting. I enjoyed being with her again.
I usually read lesfic and, though this story doesn't have any romance, do know that Nilla is lesbian.
The writing quality was as high as the "Bump" novel and I recommend the entire "Witchlight" series. 4.25 stars.
Very good. Love the name of the MC's store. Strong MC background, moves right along from the first sentence, and great supporting characters throughout. Reading the next one for sure!
What an excellent introduction to this writer! I signed up for her newsletter, after my heart stopped pounding from reading this story. Scary, touching, and realistic!
