Sexy firefighter, Colton Drake, has everything going for him. From a prize-winning smile to a washboard set of abs, all mixed together with a playful sense of humor. He wasn’t the type to have one-night stands, but he knew he wouldn’t have trouble finding them. So why was he having such a terrible time finding someone to spend his life with?
Well, until he meets the man that changes everything.
Mason Bleu, a fire investigator, is moving back to Los Angeles after getting a job offer he couldn’t refuse. Even though the city held some terribly painful memories, Mason thinks everything will be fine. It felt like a second shot.
Then, his entire world is rocked the moment his eyes land on Colton’s. Their connection is immediate and that terrifies Mason. To top things off, he’s thrown into a case involving a serial arsonist terrorizing the community.
Colton and Mason are on a path that could end either in paradise or in a nightmare. Things only heat up further when the arsonist sets his sights on one of them.
Can they make it through the fire or will they be turned to ashes? ___________________________ FIRE FLOW is a hot and steamy, gay romance novel with no cliffhangers. It is the fourth book in The Guardian series but can be read as a standalone.
This one was painfully bad. I almost DNF @ 59%, but I skimmed through to the end.
Ridiculous plot, obvious villain (I recognized the culprit immediately, and I'm no super sleuth), childish MCs (especially Mason, with his woe-is-me shtick), low steam, TONS of typos (the most obvious being the use of the apostrophe to form a plural: "both dad's"), cheesy epilogue ...
*runs away screaming*
Make it stop, please.
Oh, and because Colton is the son of the MCs from book 2, this book is set in the future, which reads exactly like the present. Seriously, even cell phones haven't been upgraded.
There was actual firefighter action is this one! WIN! But it is a short story at 70 odd pages* and it tried to pack a bit too much into the mystery and character backstory. It was rushed and not satisfying in that way.
But firefighter fans, this is a good one for you. Hunky boys who put their lives on the line and then have hot and sweaty sex.
Win!
*ETA: I was corrected by a friend that the page number on Amazon is incorrect and this book is in fact 200+ pages. I am terrible at determining how long a book is unless I see the page numbers. I read this in one sitting while I was in the tub. I always lose track of time in there!
This book is bad. There are so many things wrong with it that I don't know where to start. How this story has an average of 4.2 stars is beyond me. Let's start first with the editing errors and the plot holes and inconsistencies. The MC's work at a fire station but, instead, they should work for NASA because there aren't two someones out there that fit the description of a space cadet better than these two. Their dialogues belong to 13 year olds, or Beavis and Butthead, your choice. The so called 'mystery' of this story was solved by yours truly before the first third of the book. At 61% of the book we learn is approximately the year 2040. Wait, what??? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, at two thirds into the story, we find out the plot's situated a quarter of a century from now, yet NOTHING has changed in the world. There is still Facebook, Glade fresh linens (awesome news for the fans of the fragrance) and Priuses are still around. At that point, all I could do was skip to the end, confirm that I had, indeed, solved the 'mystery', roll my eyes and close this book for good. The only positive things I have to say about it are: * The cover is ok (the two guys on it actually match the description of Beavis and Butth..., I mean the MC's), and * Thank God it was free to borrow with Kindle Unlimited and didn't have to pay for it. Do NOT recommend.
*** Max Walker gives us a remarkable twist and turn tale that leads to love ! *** Fire Flow, #4 in his Guardian series is wonderful ! It's his characters that we love and the story holds our interest. Who doesn't like hunky firemen ? We open with a rescue from a fire, as Colton carries the little boy to safety. The serial arsonist has struck again. In walks new arson investigator, Mason, who has hazel green eyes, 5 o'clock shadow, a tattoos. Sparks may have sparked, earthquakes may have quaked, and tingles tingled ! That is how Colton felt when he shook Mason's hand. Amazing, because Mason felt it also. Unfortunately this was a job, and co-workers were off limits. Colton is a firefighter with silver blue eyes, tousled brown/blonde hair and a killer body. This investigation has to be a priority because people are being killed, and besides the jug of gas and cloth clue, they are stumped. As they search continues, Colton and Mason get closer, but do avoid each other for awhile. Soon it becomes too much to stay away, and they let themselves relax and enjoy each other. Each man is exactly what the other wants in life. Though Mason has past secrets, they are eventually known. The Getty Threats are beginning to show up, and it has become personal. The mystery is well woven, and we can't wait for the next page to see what happens next. This serial arsonist needs to be stopped. The previous arson investigator was murdered, then Colton's best friend dies in a fire - accidental? Time is of the essence. You'll love the hot sexy times these men have, and their deep emotions and passion. When the pieces finally fit, they find out who the killer is, but is it too late? We get lots of action, with thought-filled deliberation, a fast flowing plot, and true love, and you will be a happy reader with the outcome. Highly recommended. ENJOY ! ===================== I read "Cover Me" from the series, and liked it very much also. Each can stand alone. ======== ---Gigi' made me decide on this one ! Thanks sweetie ! ---
I did beta read for this, so I have to say I am a little biased! It's another suspenseful, romantic story with extra danger, since Colton is a firefighter. There's some real fighter fighting in this one too. Mason is a little bit damaged by his past but his relationship with Colton is very touching. I say this every time but Max never gets his guys into contrived relationship drama. There's real conversations and discussions between his men and not the dreaded lack of communication cliche. Enjoyable and entertaining with right amount of steam.
Fire Flow is the fourth book in the Guardian Series and Max Walker has delivered another angsty, suspenseful m/m romance.
Colton is the only son of Sean and Connor who we met in First Down #2 in the guardian series. Colton is a Fire Fighter and right from the first chapter were thrown into a suspenseful situation with a serial arsonist. Mason is the new fire investigator sent to station seven, his first task is the investigation of the serial arsonist. One his first day Mason is introduced to Colton who will be giving him his tour of the station. It's instant chemistry between these two and i loved how they reacted to each other. But Mason is quite closed off from forming a relationship after having a heartbreaking childhood. Were as Colton wants what his dads have, he admires his dads so much and the relationship they have.
What we get next is a story of two people who learn to build on friendship, trust and understanding. We get dramatic scenes and heartbreak but not over the top and a mystery that i honestly didn't get till it all started to click into place for Mason. Max Walker really did do a fantastic job of keeping me at the edge of figuring it all out. Fire Flow is great addition to the series and i would recommend both books and author.
Sorry but for me was the pacing of the book totally wrong. And I had troubles with the chemistry between the MCs ... it was there but than it wasn't .... strange
Guardian series finishes up with fire fighting hotties
3.5*
As with all the books in this series there are some niggling little editing mistakes and a few typos but thankfully not enough to ruin the story.
This book is about Sean and Connor's son Colton, a red hot firefighter in LA, and Mason, a fire investigator who gets called in to the station to look into a set of serial arson attacks.
I have to say the fire arson mystery of this book really didn't work, it was never properly explained as to why the perpetrator was doing it or how the fires all linked together which is unfortunate.
There was also a bit of a jump from Mason trying not to get involved with Colt and them then being massively in love but, once they were together, there was a nice slow build up to them actually having sex for the first time, which was a nice change.
I still think the second of this series with Sean and Connor is my fave, but overall they've been mostly good reads, the kind you'd take on holiday or read in the bath.
Max Walker definitely getting better and better with this series.
I liked this book. We have romance and suspense because Colton was a firefighter and Mason was a Fire Investigator.
The first time Colton and Mason met they felt an instant attraction and strong connection, but Mason never dated before and never let himself to be attached.
Colton was Sean and Connor son( from book two). He was a dedicated firefighter and a good man. He never pushed Mason out of his comfort zone and he and understands Mason fears.
They go out and get to know each other. There were no smexy scene until 73% and no actual sex until 85% and it was worth it. The sex was hot and delicious and they're already inlove when it happens. And i loved this book because of that.
We have some suspense scene here and those are well written also. And oh i love the epilogue❤️
Mason was avoiding Colton for weeks then the next page they are in a relationship. After that I lost interest and started skipping since I kept feeling I missed something.
I totally missed the fact that this is the last in a series in which the previous book takes place in the decade of 2030--and this one does, as well. See, as a parallel to Isaac's story in the third book in the series, "Eagle Grip," whereas Isaac is the son of Adrian and Tristan from "Cover Me," first in the series, Colton is the son of Sean and Connor, who were the principals in "First Down," the second in the series.
Got it?
Yet, this book does not read like it takes place 20 years from now in either environment, plot twists or romantic entanglements. It's as though it's taken out of today's headlines and it works very well. Colton (shirtless on the cover on the left) is such a sweet, down-to-earth character that you have to wonder why he just doesn't give up hope that Mason will come around to a relationship. And Mason is so screwed up emotionally from a tragedy for which he blames himself that it is tough to figure out if he will ever be able to fall in love.
Still, it's a rocking good tale with a huge hole in it--there really isn't that much detail of why the arsonist really did all the things he did. But that didn't stop me from enjoying the last book in the series.
✔ Letto! L'unica pecca secondo me, non si è sentito niente di Tristan e Adrian...😟 A me è piaciuto Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
I really really liked this book. The only thing missing is we never find out if what the arsonist told Colton and Mason at the end is true. This is another book where I figured out the culprit was relatively early on. I really liked Colton and Mason together and think they bring out the best in each other. You know a book is good when it has tragedy after tragedy and can still make you laugh and finish the story with a smile on your face. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
As soon you open fire flow you can feel a strong connection between colton and Mason
Mason and colton's journey was do intense and amazing you could feel it all the way through the book
Fire flow had me saying wow and no way I couldn't put the book down it was addictive
The scenes were so wonderful I loved them so much
Thank you max Walker for a beautiful emotion ending to the amazing intense romantic and addictive ending to the guardian series I'm really going to miss it
Really enjoyed this book, the last in the Guardians series. Wish it had included more of the previous books' characters though. Intriguing story though the ending left me completely puzzled. We have no idea of the real story...the author throws stuff out there and then it just ends. Did the people do what the villain said they did? Why would that be the motivation any way? How did it tie in to the other fires? The story was working well for me up to that point. Really poor ending which left me on a down note.
Fire Flow: Loved all the characters. Great writing and hot romance. Loved how Max Walker told the story! Loved how Colton and Mason connected right off the bat. I liked how Mason didn't want to pursue the Sparks between them because he was there to do a job not find love. I loved the whole story!
I connected with both Mason and Clinton from the first. Their chemistry was hot and I didn't want to put the book down. I also lived the mystery, not guessing who the arsonist was until just before Mace figured it out. I thought that Max did an excellent job at walking the fine line between providing hints to Mason's past without making a big production of his Tragic Past.
I loved this book. I was taken right into the story a funny hero and a sexy hero together they were blistering. I loved the love story and didn't see the resolution to the suspense coming perfect for me. Get it you won't be sorry if you love MM suspence with hot loving.
I did not finish this one. I was about thirty-five percent in and they had already mentioned each other being hot about five times each and I just got tired of it. There was no substance to the story and nothing really happened in all of that time. I gave up hoping that it would get better.
Such a great addition to a wonderful series! There's something for everyone in this book. Suspense, love and sexy times! I couldn't put this book down!
This was really a good book. I couldn't put it down. Some good laughs and a little suspense . Also had a little sadness . But I really enjoyed this book .
I have been eagerly awaiting this next book in the series. I have loved all the books, but “First Down” with Sean and Connor has been my absolute favorite. At the end of the book we meet their wonderful little son they adopted, Colton. I fell for Colton immediately and when I found out that we were going to get his book, I was on pins and needles in anticipation. Max Walker did not disappoint me.
Colton Drake is the son of famous professional quarterback, Sean Drake and his husband, Connor Hawk. He has had a charmed life, living with two fabulous role models who have demonstrated the true meaning of love and acceptance every day of their lives. Colton did not choose to follow either of his fathers footsteps either into pro football or professional body guarding. He is a firefighter in Los Angeles. He, and his best friend Roger, are the model of heroes, putting their lives on the line daily for the safety of the community they are charged to protect. Unfortunately there is a serial arsonist on the loose and houses are going up in flames with people trapped inside. When the fire house company’s fire investigator is suddenly killed in an accident, a new member is joining their squad. Mason Blue is returning to LA from a sleepy town in Oregon. His new assignment will come with much more work and challenges. Not only is the work challenging, but Mason has ghosts in his past from LA as a child. His first moments in the new fire house prove even more challenging. In walks a smoldering hunk of man that grabs his attention immediately. Mason is a one-time only kind of guy but he knows he has meet his match with Colton, who just happens to be the son of his greatest idol. “Fire Flow” is the story of how these men learn to trust and lean on each other as horrible things are happening all around them.
Mason was a hard character to read. You know that he has demons that chase him in his head from a horrific experience in his youth. He has closed himself off and built a huge wall to surround him and protect him from feeling. Colton knows one thing, he is going to break down those walls, make that man learn to genuinely laugh and live again. Their chemistry is as sizzling as the fires that Colton fights. And Colton is as persistent as his dads have raised him to be. He is also a wonderfully romantic and sweet guy. When they are threatened both men go into protection mode for their man, the one they are realizing is “the one” and the “L” word is burning inside to come out.
I really like how the author didn’t rush these men to bed. He developed a relationship built on trust and loyalty before ever letting them embark on exploring their carnal desires. There is explosive sex scenes but they are much later in their budding relationship. This story is one of mutual growth and learning what they need.
I have to warn you, there are some really challenging scenes in here also. This isn’t just a sweet, sappy love story. Firefighters and serial arsonists do not make for all fun and games. But it is so worth the rapid, page turning that happens to make sure all are okay. I read this in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down.
I really, really love series’s. That you get to meet and make the characters part of your “family”. The Guardian series is one of my favorite series and I can’t wait for more. I love how we went from the initial characters to their children. I am hoping we get to discover the next generation also.

So damn hot and the best of all books. <3 Again it is one of the books I would call "the next generation", this time it's all about Colton, Sean and Connor's son.
I really love the story about Colton as a firefighter, so damn sexy and captivating. :3 I also was captured right form the start by Colton's charme, his humor and... wow, just wow, he is a keeper and has a blessed heart. :3
I had also my fun with Mason, the fire investigator, the guy who is charming and witty but underneath with an unsecurity... Poor guy, he had my heart. :3
Also did I LOVE the chemistry between the two. So fitting, so awesome, so good. :3 Steamy sex scenes, hot emotions, palpable in every part of the story.
I don't know why this hit so more home than the other stories maybe it was the better - best in the whole series - development, the better description and emotional connection to the character, also the drama. Again there was a "mystery case" which was to solve but this time it was peppered with danger and with a tragedy... It really blow my heart away and I was shocked...
5 ouf of 5 stars. The best book of the series and you can read it as a stand alone like every book of it but you better read the other too. :)
I had a great time with all the books in the series and will definitely read other books by the author. :)
I absolutely loved this final book of the Guardians series. It is for sure my favorite. And that's testament to how great a storyteller Max Walker is. Mason with a haunting past and heart of gold finding his heart opening to the confident sexy funny and HOT Colton was great to read. I found the tension that ratcheted up with the danger that was getting closer and closer not only with their jobs but by an unknown arsonist had me turning the pages fast and furious. I felt the joy and gut wrenching feelingd of the loss that the men shared. When these men finally found it to let go and give in to the overwhelming heat between them it was smoldering hot. I look forward to the next series but I felt a great satisfaction as this was came to its ending. It's the kind of series I'll revisit again in the future. I completely recommend this book to everyone.
