The big "mystery" of the series underwhelms, but this series did end in such a way that I felt the story went full circle, albeit a bit messily. I never quite liked Serizawa, and I felt his character went up and down depending on which girl/woman was in his life. (I liked him best when he was with Sam-soon.) The Nana-Nana arc of volumes 6 and 7 seemed unnecessary overall, personally, since it seemed to just waste time before a rushed ending. Not a great or memorable manga series, but the art was indeed very lovely.

Forget Me Not follows Yusuke through his past, broken and failed relationships. By the end of the series the characters felt very real and Yusuke seemed realistic as he isn't perfect, he makes mistakes and hurts people sometimes. Though the covers look like a cute romance manga and the art is gorgeous throughout, the story isn't cute and fluffy.

All I have to say is that I called it! I am glad our protagonist figured some things out.

There are so many women in this story, I honestly have no idea who is whom.

I think the reason I wasn't a big fan of the ending at first was because I held so little regard for each relationship we followed. I knew they all ended badly, and I wanted to know who the girl was from the beginning. I didn't care too much for his relationship with Sam-Soon, in particular.
A large portion of this volume concludes the Nana's plot line, and I really don't care for it. Serizawa learns from it, I suppose, but it's also a mess. It's not a good situation in any form.
Then we finally discover who the girl was who started all of this. And I think it's fitting, who it turns out to be and how it turns out. It has an effect on Serizawa that he needs to get closure on certain parts of his life, and on his decision to finally make a decision and do something about it. He's spent so much time letting conflicts build and miscommunication fester and letting moments pass where he should have said something. It is good to see him finally grow past that.
I suppose it makes sense which girl he ends up with in the end, as they did seem to have the more meaningful relationship, for both of them. And looking back on it, after some time to think, I don't mind that. It fits.
This was a messy series, but I did enjoy it, for the most part.

The ending was really dissapointing and rushed. I liked the rest of the series just not this volume.

I’ll take it.

The Nana + Nana arc feels like utter filler, but it’s not quite a waste of time. While it certainly isn’t a novelty to see Serizawa implode, it forms the connective tissue that shows how the past ends up becoming the present in the narrative. Is it necessary? Maybe not, but it doesn’t exist in a vacuum either (for what it adds it may be a tad overlong though).

The mystery is finally revealed and the answer is exactly what you probably thought - it was always hiding in plain sight. What’s interesting is how that isn’t the endgame - the mystery spurs the growth that Serizawa desperately needed, but not for that relationship.

Some people will never mature and some take much longer. Serizawa’s maturation feels like it was way longer coming than it should have been, but at least he is on the path. It was nice to see some closure with his family too, which I didn’t even realize I wanted. He even cleans his damn room!

We don’t end on a definite note, but a hopeful one, and while there’s still lots of room for things to go wrong, I’m a sucker for second chances and 100% this was the road Serizawa should have taken. It beats the rote happy ending that implies a wedding means eternal happiness and it shows that sometimes your heart can be two steps ahead of your brain.

I think this series was actually very consistent over its run, but what it was putting out didn’t always go down smoothly. It is a thorough examination of a life lived and decisions made, mostly poorly, and all the fallout one can cause writ large. It’s not perfect but it was worth a read and certainly one of the more unique premises I’ve seen in manga.

The series had a hopeful start, but by the third or fourth volume it fell flat. Serizawa didn’t grow at all but stayed the same old stagnant non-hero he started out as. I didn’t mind his trials and mistakes, but in the end it seemed he learned relatively nothing. The art was beautiful and I loved looking at it, but the story was mid.

Even though I still liked the graphics, the ending felt incomplete and rushed. I had higher hopes for the ending and it disappointed me.

.....that ending is AWFUL! So much not leading up to it, too abrupt. But at least some things were answered and resolved... maybe I should get my hands on the original novel, where I hear it was written out better. Maybe just the manga adaptation isn't good, at least for the ending.
