In this remarkable memoir, Trish Harris writes about growing up with acute arthritis – about pain and loss, identity, and living creatively. With illustrations by Sarah Laing, and perceptive essays, this book captures a deeply moving experience of knitting a body and soul together.
This is an excellent book - both moving and informative. Trish Harris is a fine writer and her book helped me understand and (to the extent possible) feel what it is like to live with acute arthritis - not only the many very hard things, but the possibilities for joy and triumph as well. I enjoyed this book, and learned from it.
Although this is a story of Trish's life coping with rheumatoid arthritis, it is more a study of how to deal with chronic pain. A study in perseverance and courage as well as wonderful memoir that reveals Porirua and NZ life in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
I loved this book. An insightful look into her world and challenges faced, it has affected the way I look at my future career direction. Interesting to read of life growing up in Wellington too. Great read Trish.
