This volume is definitely my favorite so far. Specifically the chapters where we get to learn more about the prefects and their relationship to Romio. That cliffhanger tho... I really hope the next 2 volumes don’t end on a cliffhanger because I’ll have to wait 2-3 months to read the next ones 😭

Brb, crying.

Crying girl from the anime “Nichijou” gif

Not actually, though. Like, I didn’t shed any actual tears or even get close to it, it’s just that this series… is so good.

The romance between Romeo and Juliet is still weirdly innocent, but the actual story is so engrossing and entertaining. It also seems like almost literally every single character is complex and interesting and multi-layered. (Only the background characters like Maru’s lackeys are undeveloped, but honestly they really don’t need any development anyway.) The relationships between characters keep getting more and more complex, and the situations that the characters have to deal with are also super juicy. This is such an addicting series.

My initial problem with Romeo and Juliet’s relationship was that it seemed pretty unhealthy and one-sided to me. Later, I found it very weird how sexually immature they both are, and how un-intimate their relationship is. What is interesting is that someone in the actual manga also has some similar feelings, and sees their relationship as unstable and bound to fail, and thinks so because of the same reasons.

“In the future, if those two continue to hover around each other uselessly…
Like toothless gears rubbing together, then they’ll break apart sooner or later.”

This is what I’ve been saying since volume one!!!! Although I was very unnerved by their relationship in the beginning, I’m actually really cheering for them now and want the best for them. But in the end this is Romeo and Juliet, which does not end well… So spicy!!! I need to know what’s going to happen!!

Also I really just want them to have some fricken intimacy for once, Jesus Christ. I’m not asking for some freaky hentai sex or anything, but god damn they’ve been dating for three volumes and they still get nervous asking each other out on dates, and I’m still waiting for a god damn kiss. The lack of proper romance still isn’t anything that ACTUALLY bothers me, though, I’m just flabbergasted at how vanilla it is.

Brb again, praying to the licensing gods that this’ll be picked up by western publishers some time soon. *Edit:* You can actually buy an english e-book of the first volume now, officially licenced as Boarding School Juliet! Weird, I didn't know that was a thing. But apparently Kodansha (a publishing house) is doing this thing where they release e-books before they print them? To test the waters or something? I don't really care for it since I'm a book/manga collector, so I just want them to start printing these, damn it!!! *Edit #2*: They're now officially being printed, hurrah!!

I was underwhelmed by this book which moves the basic Romeo and Juliet premise to a Japanese boarding school. It will probably please Manga fans and will certainly be of interest to Shakespeare's afterlife scholars, but it just isn't very good.

Wow, this volume was really good! My favorite scene was Romio challenging Juliet in the cavalry battle to restore her honor, it was too good. I like seeing these two together, they make such a cute couple you can't help but root for them. It did break my heart at the end of the volume, not gonna lie I almost teared up during that scene (you know which one). Something that did bother me was Romio's older brother. I know he's meant to be an obstacle, but he came across as way too harsh, almost like he's trying to be as villainous as he can. Oh, but he fixes some kids' paper airplane, and that's suppose to show he's a good guy? Seriously the "Guy/girl does one good gesture and that's suppose to prove they're a good person" is starting to grate on my nerves. I don't have a problem necessarily if a character does something nice whilst being a harsh person, but the character has to be consistent. Showing him do one nice thing and then be an insufferable dick the rest of the time does not give me the impression that he's a nice guy underneath his cruel demeanor. At least Romio is a good person despite having a temper and getting violent and readers see those nice sides frequently so it works in his case. But Romio's brother is just a dick that Kaneda tries to show is nice but really is just a dick who did one nice thing once. Maybe his character will change as the series goes on, but honestly it would take a lot to disprove my initial take on his character. Anyways, rant over, I liked this volume, can't wait to see what the future holds.

Really loved this manga version of Romeo and Juliet! There are these 2 dorms at the Dahlia Academy; The black doggies and White cats and they have this longstanding feud(Like the Capulets/Mantagues) And Persia Juliet and Inuzuka Romio have to keep there love a secret! Really awesome beautiful story and artwork! Highly recommend if you enjoy any Romeo and Juliet Renditions😁😻❤️❤️

DNF-ed. Seemed to go a very predictable/traditional way. Did not feel special enough to continue. Though I have to say the art style is great.

Inuzaka's brother is... interesting. I liked that Char and Romio had a slight breakthrough in this volume. Good stuff, although I feel bad for Inuzaka and the events at the sport festival. I like the twin prefects.
