Nothing has been the same since the Second Cataclysm had left the Capitol of the Western Order in ruins. Years later, people have picked up the scattered pieces and managed to rebuild their lives. Fugitives have even adapted to the change in management under new identities.
Tejinder Wakeman, former Archiver and descendant of the original chancellors, does not have the luxury of starting a new life. Not only is he driven into hiding as an outlaw working for a cyberterrorist organization, but he learns that he has become a bargaining chip against a potential war, and it might have something to do with the Mnemotechnic Serial Bridge -- the computer hardware wired into his brain.
Soon several cities within the Eastside Republic and the Western Order are attacked with an epidemic people are starting to call Webcap, causing the divided governments to unite under a common goal:
Find the Archiver, and hand him over to the race of synthetic humans that want what's in his head.
Except that war is coming, no matter what. The only thing it'll stop at is the one thing that Tejinder has left -- his life. And handing that over may be the biggest mistake humanity can make.
